Week 12

Houston (4-5) 14
UAB (4-6) 17

BIRMINGHAM - The running attack could not get off in this game, but QB Charles Raphael had a good day through the air, and CB Byron Costello returned an interception as the Blazers upset the Cougars.

UAB now has won more games this year than each of the previous two seasons, and the Blazers can finish 5-6 with a win over the hated Memphis Tigers next week.

2009 looks pretty good now, especially on the offensive side of the ball. Hell, I just might start McLemore next year. We need a running QB with his skills.

Memphis 44, UAB 21

MEMPHIS - This is not how the Blazers (4-7) wanted to end the season. The Tigers' (2-9) run and shoot, combined with 7 UAB penalties, helped the Blazers go down here. Despite that, Koehler had another solid performance.

ECU is officially the champion, due to its win over Tulane. Look how weak C-USA was this year. TCU had a nice streak to salvage a bad season. A win next game would give them another winning season.

Fast Forward to the End...

East Carolina (9-2), as the champion of C-USA, went to the Emerald Bowl in Seattle to face the 7-4 Maryland Terrapins. ECU came away with the victory 23-21, becoming the first C-USA team to beat the ACC team in the Emerald Bowl.

Meanwhile, Tulane, at 9-2, went to the new Birmingham Bowl in Alabama, facing the 9-2 West Virginia Mountaineers. The Green Wave lost 31-14.

NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP: Miami (FL) won their second straight title, beating Georgia 38-24. Still doesn't beat their 57-48 win over Penn State last year.

1511 yards on the year for Juan Koehler... not bad for a freshman.

Looking at the summary, our defense was terrible. We were passed all over, and although we allowed few rushes, we still let them run all over us when we did. No wonder we allowed at least 44 points twice and finished 4-7. We need some defensive talent, seriously.

We're not losing too much here, except on the D-line and kicker. Thanks for your service, guys. Good luck in the future.
