Such a great story. First generation asian couple buys private street in one of the most expensive and exclusive neighborhoods in the city. All because they failed to pay a $14 dollar property tax, for decades.
Best part, the neighborhood was a whites only community until 1948. Now the people who were originally excluded own the street.

Rich SF residents get a shock: Someone bought their street - San Francisco Chronicle

I'm really surprised that Feinstein and Pelosi would want to be associated with a property that banned non-whites until 1948.

Saw a headline that said a HS football player was killed by a log during a drill.

Didn't read it but immediately my brain went, "I fought the log, but the log won."

If there's an express lane to hell I just hopped on it.

I assume that most neighborhoods in the country (north, south, west) - in 1948 - were segregated, some by law, some by economics, most by choice of association.

Yeah, just because a law is on the books doesn't mean it's necessarily being observed or enforced in any way. For example, the State of Oregon finally got around to removing the words "No free negro, or mulatto, not residing in this state at the time of the adoption of this constitution, shall come, reside, or be within this State, or hold any real estate." from the State's constitution, in 2002.

Been enjoying the coffee stylings of Mr. Tim Horton quite a bit lately. Glad they brought a shop to New Jersey.

The list of things I should never be associated with is long but high on that list should be: appliance repair

Every other year or so I sign up for a fantasy site that does a slow email draft as a way to get me acclimated to players. It allows me to do a lot of hands on research etc... just a good primer for what I feel are my more important drafts closer to the season.

And then I remember why I hate them when we go through 3 picks in a day.

Love OOTP, but I raise my eyebrow a little bit when 538 uses it to run projections on specific players.

https://fivethirtyeight.com/features...r-cooperstown/

I just don't know if I trust its dev curves to that extent.

Sounds like the email draft is a bit slow, but that should allow you to do a lot of hands on research.

Lay your hands. It's much more expressive - ask the Thompson Twins. Or Bon Jovi. Or Peter Gabriel.

So I keep seeing this new Lane Bryant commercial for something called Super Skinny jeans, in which a bunch of very large women dance happily and somewhat provocatively as they show off their jeans and "assets". Now look, I'm all for loving your body and what not, but are we seriously gonna market jeans for women weighing 250lbs as skinny jeans? Are we just horses with blinders on now, being petted and told everything is gonna be ok as we roll down the conveyor belt in the glue factory?

For all the talk about the Reds Billy Hamilton and his blazing speed and skill it amuses me that he'll never even lead all Billy Hamilton's in stolen bases, or be the best Billy Hamilton ever to play the game. Not to be mean to the guy, he's fun. It's the incredible irony of it that I find amusing.

Because it's named for a location, not the animal used .

I know I don't watch a lot of regular TV, but occasionally even I'm shocked.

Just turned on Raw ... TV was on NHL Network. The Finals ended June 11th.

I've never sat down and properly watched Hogans Heroes, but the show has been on while I've been in the room at least 100 hundred times in my life. I never knew Richard Dawson was on the show until a few nights ago when I saw the credits.

The board game thread makes me sad cause a lot of those games look like fun, but I don't have enough friends to even contemplate ever playing them.

I've gotten a couple over the years that have never made it out of the box. First the kids were too young to really get all of the rules, then I was tired and didn't have the mental energy for the games, and now they have too many other things going on. And I don't have any real in-person friends. So, no gaming.

(The best was when I worked at JHU, there was a guy who would go to Avalon Con and had a TON of games, and he would bring some in and we'd play them at lunch. Settlers, Shogun, Modern Art, Family Business, Kill Dr. Lucky...good times.)

Yeah, I used to have a friend of a friend who was very much into gaming, but he's since moved. Even then though it was more stuff like Mage Knight, which I spent a bundle on buying stuff and we played maybe 3 times.

Just saw a story from a town outside of Macon (Jones County for those who know their GA geography) ... two kids hospitalized in 24 hours after apparently getting hold of some bad acid.

5 people in custody after a raid that netted 2,100 hits of synthetic hallucinogens (nouveau LSD I guess) and an assortment of other goodies.

Point to me putting this here is that I didn't realize acid had made such a comeback.

Yesterday he pitched me on doing Amway.

I think i would have liked it better if he would have asked me if I wanted to go fuck. At least that way I would have known he actually liked me as a person.
