April's Best Batter Announced

When Francisco Peralta stepped up to the plate in April, he did it with confidence and today he was honored with the Continental League Batter of the Month award.

The young Apex left fielder posted a .408 batting average with 8 home runs, 27 RBIs and scored 22 runs. Peralta also worked pitchers for 18 walks to post a .504 on-base percentage.

Rodríguez Takes RL's Best Bat Award

Ann Arbor left fielder Ricardo Rodríguez certainly turned heads in April with some impressive numbers. He batted .424 for the month and was voted the Republic League Batter of the Month award.

He banged 8 home runs, collected 19 RBIs, scored 16 times and put up a .457 on-base percentage.

Bullets Starter Named April's Premier Pitcher

Despite the number of years he's been in the league, Mario Enríquez still gets excited when he puts together a quality stretch like he had in April. The 39-year-old starter for Leduc was named Continental League Pitcher of the Month earlier today.

He collected 3 wins and no losses with 32 strikeouts in his 6 starts, putting up a fine 1.69 ERA in 42.2 innings of work.

In April, Noah Tremblay tore through the Republic League like a seasoned veteran -- quite impressive for a player only 24 years old.

The young Tokyo starter posted a 4-0 mark and an ERA of 0.93 to earn the Pitcher of the Month award. In 38.2 innings he collected 30 strikeouts while limiting the opposition to a .214 average.

CL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

José Carlos Ortíz earned April's Rookie of the Month honors in the Continental League for last month's performance. The boyish Noblesville center fielder might be wet behind the ears, but he's proving that he has what it takes to play at this level.

Ortíz hit .325 with 3 home runs, 14 RBIs and 16 runs scored this past month on his way to winning the award.

Manuel Rodríguez's eyes seem to light up whenever he sees the baseball. The young Toronto first baseman has been hitting everything in sight for the better part of a month.

In April he was voted the Rookie of the Month Award.

During the month he hit .282 with 6 doubles, no triples and 5 home runs. Rodríguez also scored 13 times and drove in 18 runs.

CL Announces Best Batter Award

Seasoned by several years of professional experience, 30-year-old Dave Langlois put together a solid offensive month for Halifax and was crowned May's top batter in the Continental League.

He batted .422 with 6 home runs, 18 RBIs and 16 runs scored.

Langlois is batting .342 this year with 8 home runs, 25 RBIs and 25 runs scored. He has 77 hits in 225 at-bats.

Tokyo's Coutu Top RL Batter in May

Mathieu Coutu earned May's Batter of the Month honors in the Republic League by reeling off a .339 average, going 40 for 118 with 9 home runs, 28 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

The soon-to-be free agent was hitting with great urgency in an effort to bolster his asking price in the Tokyo clubhouse and around the rest of the league.

So far this season Coutu is batting .294 with 13 home runs.

Maldonado Takes CL #1 Pitcher Trophy

As Javier Maldonado hoisted up the Continental League Pitcher of the Month trophy for May, rumors have already begun to swirl about whether he will leave Brooklyn once his contract is up at the end of the season.

Maldonado put pressure on the Brownstones to keep him around by posting a 5-0 record and an ERA of 2.76 over 42.1 innings last month. He also rolled up 40 strikeouts, increasing his value both to Brooklyn and to every other team in the league.

Checking out his stats for the season, Maldonado has registered 5 wins and 2 losses in 11 starts, 3.42 ERA and struck out 61 batters in 73.2 innings.

Winged Lingerines Murakami Named RL's Best Pitcher

Veteran Tomohiko Murakami put together quite a successful stretch in May for the Ann Arbor Winged Lingerines, earning himself the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award.

Murakami racked up a 5-0 record in 6 starts, posting a 1.53 ERA over 47 innings and striking out 29.

Murakami has posted a 7-1 record for the year with a 2.86 ERA. Teams are hitting .248 against him and he has rung up 56 strikeouts in 78.2 innings.

Miyazaki Gets CL Rookie of Month Honors

Akihiko Miyazaki is still a bit shy, but then, who could blame the newest Continental League Rookie of the Month honoree? He hasn't been around the league long enough to fully know the ropes yet, despite the fact that he's putting up veteran-like numbers.

In May the Baltimore hitter tagged opposing pitching for a .357 average with 25 hits, 5 home runs and 16 RBIs.

Thus far this year Miyazaki has hit .263 with 8 home runs and 21 RBIs.

Best Republic League Newcomer Named

A veritable toddler to the Republic League, Matt Behan just sewed up the Rookie of the Month trophy for May.

Over the past month the 25-year-old right fielder for Tokyo hit .352 with 32 hits, 3 home runs and 14 RBI. He also logged 7 walks and compiled a .398 on-base percentage.

To date, Behan has collected 61 hits for a .324 average. He has posted 6 home runs, scored 31 runs and driven in 30 runs.

CL Choice for Batter of the Month is Álvarez

June's Batter of the Month Award has been given out by the Continental League. This month's trophy was presented to the Apex first baseman, José Álvarez.

He starred by hitting .444 with a .489 on-base percentage, totaled 36 hits in 81 at-bats, 6 home runs, 34 RBIs and scored 15 runs.

Álvarez is batting .329 this season in 73 games with 20 home runs, 71 RBIs and 37 runs scored. He has 83 hits in 252 at-bats.

Johnston Gets RL Batter of the Month Trophy

There's nothing like putting up good, solid numbers in the last year of your contract. Today Henry Johnston helped his contract negotiations by nabbing June's Republic League Batter of the Month honors.

The Tokyo third baseman put together a .349 batting average with 6 home runs, 16 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Someone will surely be opening up the vault this offseason if Johnston continues at this brisk pace.

Looking at his stats this year, Johnston has compiled a .255 batting average, while hitting 13 home runs and driving in 40 runs. He has played in 84 games and scored 47 runs.

CL Announces Best Pitcher for June

Lorenzo Salas's been around the league long enough to appreciate the honor he received today. After going 4-0 in June, the 25-year-old Napa Valley hurler has been named Continental League Pitcher of the Month.

He fanned 37 in 37.2 innings, logged an ERA of 1.91 and allowed opponents to hit .253 against him.

In 17 starts this season Salas has notched a 8-4 record and a 2.04 ERA.

RL's Best Starter is Maldonado

Toronto Marlboros hurler Andrés Maldonado was rewarded today with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors. Maldonado, 29, realizes that pitching isn't all about how hard you can throw, it's about accuracy and about picking yourself up even when you've had a run of bad luck.

"I'd like to say I don't give them anything to hit," said the Toronto starter, "but that's not true. Every pitcher gives up a long ball now and then. Usually there's at least one mistake in each at-bat, but you've got to battle through your mistakes and build some positive momentum. The rest will fall into place."

Things did fall into place for Maldonado. In June he took the ball for 32.2 innings while notching 20 strikeouts, a 3.03 ERA and a 4-0 record.

Looking at his season stats, Maldonado has won 8 and lost 5, collecting 57 strikeouts and 15 walks in 99 innings with a 3.91 ERA.

Big Month Brings in CL Top Rookie Trophy

Youngster José Carlos Ortíz emerged as the latest Continental League Rookie of the Month today. The young man from Noblesville deserved the honor, batting .351 with 4 home runs and 12 RBI. Is the month of June a harbinger of things to come or just a fluke? We'll find out someday, but for now, we'll just let Ortíz enjoy the limelight.

So far this season Ortíz has put up a .296 batting average with 104 hits, 11 home runs and 37 RBIs.

June's #1 RL Rookie Named

The Republic League Rookie of the Month Award for June goes to José Ramírez, the right fielder for Ann Arbor. He took the league by storm, hitting .244 and looks like he might just be a legitimate contender for the Benny Myers Rookie of the Year Award.

Ramírez tagged 20 hits in 82 at-bats, including 4 home runs, produced 17 RBIs and scored 10 times.

Hitting .242 to date, Ramírez has 8 home runs and 32 RBIs. He has played in 59 games.

CL's Top Hitter Selected

Prospective free agents love to have hot streaks and Javier Olberos is no exception. The Cleveland third baseman capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League.

In July Olberos hit .359 with 12 home runs, 35 RBIs and 22 runs scored.

Presently Olberos is batting .239 with 100 hits and 21 home runs. He has knocked in 83 runs and scored 64 times.

RL Best Hitter Award to Colorado 's Brad Draper

Brad Draper battered Republic League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award.

"I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Draper told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month."

In 25 games, Draper hit .319 with 8 home runs, 20 RBIs and scored 20 runs.

So far this year Draper has hit .306 with 22 home runs, 72 RBIs and 70 runs scored.

Gillin CL Winner, Top Hurler in July

Jonah Gillin has been around the league long enough to know that relievers are often overlooked. That has never stopped him from doing what he does best -- and he did it extremely well in July and stole away with the Continental League Pitcher of the Month award.

The Bullets bullpen ace collected 2 saves and 8 strikeouts in 12.1 innings, holding the opposition to a .200 average and posting a 0.00 ERA and a 4-0 record.

To date this year Gillin has won 5 and lost 1 with a 1.26 ERA, 21 saves and 34 strikeouts in 43 relief appearances.

Tremblay Nabs RL #1 Pitcher Award

When Noah Tremblay takes the mound, a Tokyo victory is usually the result. At least that's the way it was in July.

He excelled with a 3-1 mark and a 0.65 ERA in 6 starts, tossed 41.2 innings, fanned 40 and held opposing batters to a .146 average.

That's why the Catfish starter was honored today as the Pitcher of the Month by the Republic League.

So far this year Tremblay has 12 wins and 3 losses and a 1.79 ERA.

July's Best Rookie Honored by CL

July's choice for Continental League Rookie of the Month is William Hall of Cleveland.

The talented right fielder started 20 games, hit .462 with a .495 OBP. For the month, he totaled 42 hits, no home runs, 15 RBIs and 17 runs scored.

Hall is hitting .341 this season with 2 home runs, 45 RBIs and 56 runs scored. He has 135 hits in 396 at-bats.

Rookie of the Month Won by Rodríguez

Manuel Rodríguez put up some real solid numbers to sew up the Republic League Rookie of the Month honors this month.

In July he chalked up 25 hits, 6 home runs and drove in 15 runs. The Toronto first baseman compiled a .298 average and a .392 OBP as he worked opposing pitchers for 12 walks.

This season Rodríguez is batting .255 with 15 home runs. His totals include 52 RBIs and 46 runs scored.

CL's #1 Batter Announced

On the heels of a very productive August, Kenny Alexander received Continental League Batter of the Month recognition today.

The battle-tested left fielder hit .371 for the Noblesville Millers and racked up 8 home runs, 19 RBIs and 23 runs scored.

This year Alexander has socked 168 hits in 525 at-bats for a .320 average with 31 home runs. He is getting on base at a .400 pace and his totals also include 88 RBIs and 99 runs scored.

Canales Top Hitter in RL in August

César Canales of the Colorado Rancheros spoke softly and carried a big stick in August and was justifiably proclaimed the Republic League Batter of the Month.

The Rancheros left fielder rapped out a .318 batting average with 35 hits in 110 at-bats, drove in 26, scored 20 runs and chalked up a .385 on-base percentage.

So far this season Canales is hitting .303 with 16 home runs.

Brooklyn starter René Gauthier claimed the Continental League Pitcher of the Month Award today with his strong performance in August.

The 25-year-old starter tossed 34 innings of solid baseball, putting up a 2.12 ERA, 22 strikeouts and a 4-0 record in 5 starts.

This year Gauthier has fashioned a 13-4 mark, 2.10 ERA and pitched 171.1 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .234 against him and he has logged 102 strikeouts.

García Wins RL Top Pitcher Award

Tokyo Catfish starter Jesús García has collected the Republic League Pitcher of the Month award for a run of lights-out performances.

"This town really appreciates it when you're going well," said García. "They might boo you when you're getting knocked around, but they love you when you're mowin' them down."

In August the 25-year-old compiled a 4-2 record in 7 starts with a 1.59 ERA. He threw 51 innings, fanning 47 while walking 10.

This season-to-date, García has fashioned a 11-10 mark and 3.15 ERA in 197 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .221 against him and he has logged 166 strikeouts.

Baltimore's Ramón Hernández collected 31 hits to snare the Continental League Rookie of the Month for August.

He batted .323 with 8 home runs, 17 RBIs and 18 runs scored.

The 20-year-old is barely old enough to shave, but he could definitely contend for Rookie of the Year if he keeps up this pace.

Thus far this season Hernández is hitting .308 with 20 home runs, 49 RBIs and 92 runs scored. He has 148 hits in 480 at-bats and has played in 132 games.

RL Selects Rookie Star of the Month

The Republic League made the official announcement today. The Rookie of the Month award went to Manuel Rodríguez of Toronto. He was named the best rookie in August.

Last month the 24-year-old Marlboros first baseman played in 25 games and hit .232 with 4 doubles, no triples and 3 home runs. Rodríguez also scored 11 times and drove in 11 runs.

This year Rodríguez has hit at a .251 clip with 116 hits, 18 home runs, 63 RBIs and 57 runs scored.

RL's Best Starter is Maldonado Sunday, July 1st, 2204 Toronto Marlboros hurler Andrés Maldonado was rewarded today with the Republic League Pitcher of the Month honors. Maldonado, 29, realizes that pitching isn't all about how hard you can throw, it's about accuracy and about picking yourself up even when you've had a run of bad luck. "I'd like to say I don't give them anything to hit," said the Toronto starter, "but that's not true. Every pitcher gives up a long ball now and then. Usually there's at least one mistake in each at-bat, but you've got to battle through your mistakes and build some positive momentum. The rest will fall into place." The Cleveland third baseman capped off a fine month by hauling in Batter of the Month honors in the Continental League. In July Olberos hit .359 with 12 home runs, 35 RBIs and 22 runs scored. Presently Olberos is batting .239 with 100 hits and 21 home runs. He has knocked in 83 runs and scored 64 times. RL Best Hitter Award to Colorado 's Brad Draper Wednesday, August 1st, 2204 Brad Draper battered Republic League pitchers all July and wound up taking home the Batter of the Month Award. "I've been around Front Office Offseason League long enough to know you really have to work hard day in and day out to be able to put up this kind of consistency," the 29-year-old Draper told reporters. "I put in a lot of work, even on the days I might not take the field, and it's always nice when everything comes together for me like it did this last month." The talented right fielder started 20 games, hit .462 with a .495 OBP. For the month, he totaled 42 hits, no home runs, 15 RBIs and 17 runs scored. Hall is hitting .341 this season with 2 home runs, 45 RBIs and 56 runs scored. He has 135 hits in 396 at-bats. Rookie of the Month Won by Rodríguez Wednesday, August 1st, 2204 Manuel Rodríguez put up some real solid numbers to sew up the Republic League Rookie of the Month honors this month. In July he chalked up 25 hits, 6 home runs and drove in 15 runs. The Toronto first baseman compiled a .298 average and a .392 OBP as he worked opposing pitchers for 12 walks. The battle-tested left fielder hit .371 for the Noblesville Millers and racked up 8 home runs, 19 RBIs and 23 runs scored. This year Alexander has socked 168 hits in 525 at-bats for a .320 average with 31 home runs. He is getting on base at a .400 pace and his totals also include 88 RBIs and 99 runs scored. Canales Top Hitter in RL in August Saturday, September 1st, 2204 César Canales of the Colorado Rancheros spoke softly and carried a big stick in August and was justifiably proclaimed the Republic League Batter of the Month. The Rancheros left fielder rapped out a .318 batting average with 35 hits in 110 at-bats, drove in 26, scored 20 runs and chalked up a .385 on-base percentage.
