RIP Famous People Thread

This is the thread for your RIPs for people who you feel are pretty famous, but maybe don't deserve a full thread.

RIP Ron Popeil. I think I've wanted a Ronco grill most of my life.

RIP Dusty Hill, half of the creepy beard guys who scared me as a kid on MTV.

How did you post that without a mention of the Popeil Pocket Fisherman?

edit: Dusty Hill was awesome. I highly recommend the ZZ Top documentary on Netflix, even if you aren't really a fan of the band.

Markie Post, gone at 70.

I'd rank her quite high on the list of fetching TV stars (circa Night Court) in her heyday.

Rest in peace.

Correct is right. Damn, I think that leave Roz, Dan and Bull left from the main cast, right?

RIP Coach. Even as a Canes fan, there is no doubt that you were one of the best to do it and was one of the best characters in the game.

I was kind of wondering what Marsha Warfield was up to with all this sad Night Court news - she's wrapping up a stretch of two standup shows a night at the Rio in Vegas tonight.

I watched some of her standup in the mid-80s on Youtube once, she was definitely doing some interesting stuff. It was "adult content" without being that raunchy style of standup - just talking frankly about sex, drugs, etc.

She was playing the mother of the black paramedic/firefighter (can't remember her name right now) last season on 911. Surprised the hell out of me when she showed up.

Yes, I remember her stand-up back then. Similar to how raunchy Bob Saget was before Full House.

Was just coming on to post something similar. One of my favourite TV moments was ‘Carrot In A Box’, literally makes me cry

I was saddened by Sean Lock's passing, knew he'd been ill but thought he'd looked better recently, thought he was on a road to recovery.

Havent been as saddened by a celeb kicking it since Rik Mayall and David Bowie.

Getting sick of updating this thread with musicians.

Charlie Watts dead at 80. I knew something was up when he couldn't go on the new tour.

Damn, I appreciated the Stones much more in recent years as I got into a lot of their music that didn't see the most airplay. Charlie was their backbone with is steady consistent drumming. R.I.P

And the irony of probably the least indulgent of the classic core lineup being the first to go.

Former Bucs first-round draft pick Keith McCants dies at 53

I remember him as a Alabama and Bucs linebacker. I showed his picture to my wife and she remembered him from the 30 for 30 documentary Broke.

RIP.

Willard Scott passes away at 87. I met him years ago. When he saw my bald head, he immediately grabbed me, put the top of our heads together and said "look, it's a butt!" Very funny man, who will be missed.

I mean he really ought to have his own thread. He was Bozo the Clown, a show I used to watch in syndication at my babysitters, and he created the first Ronald McDonald (although that one wad scary af).

It's a shame he didn't make 100, think if all those birthdays he celebrated and read on the air over the years. He was exceptionally entertaining and weirdly a big part of my childhood. My mom watched Today, every day, as we didn't have cable, and I watched it during my latchkey summers at home. I remember when he became the fulltime Today show weatherman. He was quite the man. RIP Willard

Unfortunately, that's no surprise. He battled addictions all his life.

If you haven't seen his 'Daddy's tools' monologue from Boardwalk Empire, you should.

SHIT! I was JUST LOOKING UP Willard Scott because I forgot his name last week because I was trying to remember the source of the "Troy and Abed in the Morning" bit from Community.

I finally found the info. And it said he was still alive. I was surprised at that....I think I jinxed him

He was prolific on twitter until going silent in July. Surprised I hadn't read about anyone wondering if he was OK, like had with Chadwick Boseman. I know he was pretty active doing stand-up in small venues during the pandemic.

Man that sucks. I followed/unfollowed him often on Twitter. I really don't care about poker or golf and at times, he could fill a Twitter feed on his own.

I really grew to appreciate his stand-up listening to the comedy channels on SXM. Ironically, given that he came from SNL, I found much of his skit stuff that I heard to be pretty crappy. Same with Sandler and the lot.

I always loved this bit:

I still remember some of his standup bits from MTV's Half Hour Comedy Hour, especially the bit about being on The Dating game and talking about his date as if she were a popsicle. "First, I take off her wrapper, if you know what I mean..."
