Two months later

I can't believe that I've done it. Alcohol is no longer a factor in my life. I don't want it. I don't need it, and it no loger controls me.

I'm a husband again. I'm a father again. I'm a man again. We are a true family again.

Little by little, I'm gaining more energy, more drive, more perspective of what's true and worthwhile, and what's deceptive and useless.

I'm thankful for today, and excited for tomorrow.

Lord, please don't let this change.

Don't be a quitter.

J/K, good for you Schmidty. Alcohol is a funny drug - it has such different effects on different people. Good for you in deciding you are better off without it and sticking with it.

Great job. This Friday will mark one year of sobriety for me. Alcohol cost me my family. Like most alcoholics, I didn't/couldn't see this until it was too late. During my years of drinking, I often wondered if I was an alcoholic but never thought I fit that mold. Now I can look back and see how wrong I was. It was a high price to pay but I'm thankful that it worked out as it did rather than continuing down the path I was on.

Again...congrats. Grab your family and don't let go. It is often said but it is true...they are by far the most important thing in your life.

Thanks everybody. It hasn't been easy, but it's getting easier by the day.

It's weird. I never even drank alcohol until I was 27 years old, and even then it started as an occasional thing. Suddenly, in the past few years, it became an everyday thing. Large quantities too (bottle or two of wine a freaking day when I quit). I subconciously planned my day around when I would have a chance to be home to drink. I didn't look like a drunk, and no one would have known I was unless they saw me at home in the evenings. I guess I was what they call a functunal drunk, but in acctuality, I was a husk of the person I truly am.

Without going on an on, I just want to say that it feels amazing to be "reborn" like this. It's wonderful.

I have a tendency to go from one extreme to another so I've never touched the stuff. Seen it do too much damage to others. I only hate it because of all the ads on TV that make it seem you have to drink to be cool. Being a good dad is cool. Congrats.

Awesome, I've seen some pretty devastating effects of long-term alchoholism, so it's nice to see somebody recognize that they have a problem and then actually man up to fix the problem. Congratulations!

Good job, Schmidty. I've never had any family with real issues in this regard, but my wife's extended family has a couple of alcoholics that have absolutely destroyed their lives. Glad that you came to your senses before you lost what was most important. You're one of the lucky ones.

Alcholism is brutal. And it's very difficult to recognize in oneself. To do so is quite an accomplishment.

Since you are looking for something else to drink now...I suggest Coke Cherry Zero (aka "Cherry-air") on the rocks. It's amazing, bad for you, and has no calories!

Having been raised by a single parent who was/is a severe alcoholic... It can't be overstated how important this is to your family. This is a moment that will be remembered decades from now.

Nice job bud, keep it up
