Why doesn't the writers strike effect the NFL moring shows?

ESPN, FOX, and CBS all employ writers to write those player segments on their morning shows, so why weren't these show effected? Most of the Hosts on these shows are all Ex-Union members, so I do not think they would cross the picket line.

I wouldn't think there would be much of a difference between a writer on the Letterman show and a writer on the FOX Sunday morning show?

Because sports blowhards can talk on and on about sports without a script but morons like Letterman and Leno cannot open their mouths without having someone tell them what to say.

Actually Letterman did go without a script during the last writers strike.

My guess is that the sports shows writers belong to a separate untion for news writers, and thus are not affected by the current strike.

The writers strike is about royalties for DVD and Internet Broadcasts of shows. Sports shows aren't put on to DVDs nor are they really broadcast over and over on the internet.

They don't use script writers. They might use production assistants and research assistants, all of whom can write. But..not actual 'writers' in the traditional sense. I doubt anyone working on those shows are WGA members.
