What Does Your Username Mean?
Inspired by OOTP's latest OT thread, I thought I'd bring it here.
Now I know, this has been done countless times. But that was a long time ago, before a bunch of currently active posters were, well, active. And I'd be interested to know where names such as The Afoci, ardent enthusiast, JeeberD, noop, and Alan T (j/k ) came from. As many may know, I hate my screenname. In 6th grade I chose it. Shorty because iIwas the shortest kid and continued to be up until about sophomore year.. 3 = favorite number. 28= corey dillon. 81= carl pickens. Used a lil combination there. And frankly, I'd love to make a new name @ FOFC but it'd be hard for everyone to remember who I am, I suppose. Now, I can always change it at FOFC since I can get into my files here, but for some reason I don't think that is right - Steve had to start over with Anrhy, so why should I be allowed to just edit my name and keep my same registration date, etc? Anyways, that is besides the point. How'd you come up with your name? Last edited by korme : 07-21-2003 at 08:06 PM. |

Sabotai was a general in Genghis Khan's (and his succesors) army. He helped lead the invasions of China, the Middle East, Russia and Eastern Europe.
A truely gifted general who was a genius at strategy and tactics. Gets overlooked a lot for not being a blood relative of Genghis. On most military campaigns, a blood relative of the Great Khan was named as leader of it. Many of them were militarily trained, but not all. And certainly none were as gifted as Sabotai. Anyway, Mongol history is something I have read a lot about. And that's where my name comes from. |

The Afoci is something I have used since about 1996. How it came about is something legends are made of, but I can't think of a good legend right now so you will have to take it as divine inspiration.

I came up with mine when forced to create a user name at college in about 1 minute. It's a nice double feature. CT + Homer (simpson) = cthomer. but, thom are also the first 4 letters of my last name, so i can play it off as C- Thomer
the 5000 was tacked on years later when creating an email address at some web based joint. I always thought it was so moronic of people with no foresight to name themselves Joe1999, or Bill2001. Inspired by the great PimpBot 5000 from Conan O'Brien, i tacked on a nice clean '5000' to the end of my user name. Maybe i'll just run this name up to 5000 posts before coming up with a more thoughtful handle. |

Nothing complicated or particuarly creative about mine.
I started spending serious online time about the same time we moved from Atlanta to down here in the middle of nowhere. I figured "it'll save some time trying to explain where the heck I live", so MiddleGA it became. For some reason (I believe the shorter version was taken at the time), I added my first name & the "in" when I registered here. What surprised me a lot though was how well the original name stuck. Not so much here but places I've been longer, I'm usually referred to simply as "Mid" regardless of the handle I'm using at the time or if they see me under a different nick elsewhere.

Mine is a unique name I came up with originally just for this board. Being a football board, I thought I would pick a name that honored a great player for one of my favorite teams. I could have been Cowboy12 for my favorite player of all time, but I settled on Len Dawson as being the Kansas City Chiefs player with the most recognizable number. I was all set to go with kcchief16 when I thought about Joe Montana opting to wear 19 even though Dawson gave Montana and the Chiefs permission to pull his number out of retirement. So I changed it to 19 to in honor of Dawson with a doff of the cap to Montana, my second favorite player of all time.

I've told this story before, but I doubt everybody remembers. The short version is that I was watching a Hall of Fame game several years ago, and the Eagles sent a gentleman named Pumpy Tudors out to punt for them. The name cracked me up (particularly hearing Al Michaels saying it). I'd used the name "Gunner" on BBS's since 1985, but as the Internet grew in popularity, the name "Gunner" was harder to get, as somebody always seemed to jump on it everywhere I went. So I went with something that was unlikely to be used. Welcome Pumpy Tudors.
For more on the actual Pumpy, read: http://www.timesfreepress.com/2001/n...1woolycol.html

Humm...
I think my brain was fried on acid when I signed up. I don't even own a Godzilla, nor was I good at blitzing. Some random brain synapses just hooked together and I typed "Godzilla Blitz", kind of like those random passwords that AOL used to send out with their free sign up disks a few years ago. I do vaguely remember thinking that I should type something that no one would have used before, but that's as far as it went. |

Normally I don't sign up for a handle with my real name, but I managed to mix up my 'Sign In Name' and my 'Displayed Name.' Therefore 'FantasyBandit,' my normal handle, became my sign in name, and Vince was what was displayed everywhere. A tribute to my intelligence, I guess...Those from the first version of these boards can probably remember when it would still put your sign in name under the 'Last Post By' field, as when I posted that read 'FantasyBandit' rather than Vince.
The name FantasyBandit came about because I used to play fantasy sports all the time...I was the kind of guy who bought the ESPN 3-pack of teams, and sometimes another team or two after that. That was not to mention my Sandbox, Yahoo and CBS Sportsline leagues... Then I found text sims, and I don't play fantasy sports all that much anymore...the handle sticks though

Noble platypus is something takled about at the begining of the movie Dogma. I am a huge fan of Kevin Smiths movies, and I thought it was a cool name. And besides, what animal exudes nobility more that the platypus?
