Wii party games?
Mrs. SC and I are having a shindig Saturday night. The men are going to play some poker, and the wimmenfolk are going to play on the Wii. Any thoughts on what games would be fun for a group of people? We already have WiiPlay.

Three words: Topless Wii Fit.
Or maybe not. My wife and I have enjoyed Boom Blox as a competitive game - easy to pick up the basics, but a fair amount of strategy in placing one's shots. She also fell in love with Mario Kart at Best Buy, and passing the wheel around was fun even if we weren't keeping scores. Carnival Games has somehow sold 1.5 million copies, so that's a possibility. I probably won't play it until my family comes into town and I rent it. There are also the usual Rock Band/Guitar Hero suspects, if you're planning on splurging. |

I second Rayman. That got a lot of burn on my ex-flatmate's wii from our gfs.

I like Boom Blox and Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games.
They are both just fun all around games but way more fun with 2 or more people. |

Boom Blox is a must have. When we have friends over to play it, they almost always either buy it (if they already have a Wii) or begin the search for a Wii.

Not if you are just renting it, since you can't even play multiplayer until you've finished the game.

Agreed. Unless you have a couple of good, solid blocks of time to unlock everything before having folks over, pass on it. |

Disagree. Multiplayer takes about an hour to unlock and it is just as fun passing the baton around in single player mode anyway. The multiplayer becomes much more fun if you spend the time doing this because everyone sees the games and gets a chance to try it before being thrust face first into a ton of weird mini-games.
(besides which, nothing was mentioned about renting only in the OP) Last edited by MJ4H : 07-18-2008 at 12:27 PM. |

We picked Wii DecaSports last weekend, it's clocked a ton of hours already - we have all played it and it's really fun. My favorite is Snowboarding (b/c it's the only one I can win at), but Archery is fun too, and it also has Soccer, GoCarts, MotoCross, Figure Skating, Basketball, Beach Volleyball, Badminton and Curling. I haven't played all of them, but I've seen them being played and they all look like good games that are easy to play.

It takes more than an hour to unlock multiplayer, it was more like about 2+ hours for me and my friends. And watching others play is not really that fun, not when you could all actually be playing if the makers weren't douchebags. The only game I enjoyed watching other people perform was the last one with the dancing.

ok, but I still disagree. I thought working together to clear the single player was at least as fun as the multiplayer games. |

I like it a lot honestly, I enjoyed taking turns with my friend when we played through single player mode. Same thing for Rayman 1 |

Smarty Pants is actually a surprising amount of fun in multi-player.
