I'm redoing my bathroom and it's probably a good idea to replace the toilet. What the hell is the difference between say the 120 dollar throne and say the 300 dollar one. I'm not really looking for high style. But if the basic one is not going to handle an assault it would be nice to know. I'm assuming oval is way better than round.

The wife and I bought a $120 one and it's been great. I've been known to stop up a few toilets over the years, but we've had this one for almost a year and it hasn't clogged once. We got it at Lowe's...can't remember the exact model, though.

I'm a big fan of dual flush models, but I would assume most people don't care.

When we remodeled we put in dual flush toilets, one from Caroma and one from Toto. We like them both but the Toto a little more. And they actually move more "stuff" than our older toilets.

I recently put in a conversion for our single flush to be a dual flush. It's a temporary measure until we remodel the bathroom, but it should save some water in the short-term.

I actually went to Consumer Reports when I got a new toilet. I also took a tip from a co-worker, who said to get "the toilet that can flush the most golf balls." I went to Lowe's, got the American Standard Champion (I think that was the one), it fit both criteria.

So when I moved into my house I decided to add a second bathroom in the basement. I skimped on several things including the toilet. During my upstairs bath remodel I decided to actually spend some money and get a top of the line toilet. It sits high off the floor, it is elongated (sp?) so there aren't any problems with parts of my body rubbing against the front, and it has the highest possible flush power allowed by Al Gore and company. It's been a year and I have never once used the basement one for anything sitting down. Best money that can be spent, no question about it. Buy the $300 one.

The plumber who does a lot of work for one of the same builders I do (ultra high end 750k + homes) recommended a American Standard Cadet when we remodeled our bathroom.

I have yet to stop it up, Lowe's carries it, and it can be had around $100 maybe a little less.

He says it is his secret that he is putting $100 toilets in 50k bathrooms....
