Cheap Whiskey and Dirty Flannel - OOTP13 Interactive season thread
1904 Season Part 1
A solid season for Gale who ends up in the high minors by season end with the Seals, who finish 7th in the PCL at 59-81. Notes:
Jason is the first of our six to sign as the Beavers have no catcher returning and find this jewel in the milltowns of PA and bring him west. Notes:
David struggles with homesickness on the plains of Texas and nagging injuries, but is still regarded as a top prospect as Midland finishes 4th in the Texas League at 62-58. Notes:

1904 Season Part 2
Jestor, one of three players to hook up with a major league team is the only one to actually play in a game as the Brewers finish 3rd in the National League at 83-71. Notes:
'Irish Fire' is the gypsy of the bunch, spending the season on the reserve rosters of three different teams, then being traded to a 4th after the season, never stepping foot on a major league diamond. Notes:
Neilson is another that is signed to the big leagues, but spends the season on the reserve roster for the Alleghenys, who win the 1904 World Series led by Honus Wagner .312, Fred Clarke .307 and 26 game winner Jim Gardner. Notes:

I got to make a couple games in the majors *and* I made more money in the first year than all of you guys, because sure some guys got the 3 year big money deals, but my cash/season rate is highest of all.
*And* I'm the #1 prospect in the majors. Go me.

1905 Season - Part 1
Jason started the started the 1905 season hitting .224 in 78 games for the Beavers before earning a trip to the bigs in a trade involving well known name. The Cubs limped home in 6th place in the NL at 71-83 and saw attendance decline to 357,749. Notes:
Ginsberg had the most successful season of our youngsters, albeit in the Texas League but the Dusters finished 51-69 for disappointing 7th place finish. He is locked up in Midland for one more year and then hopes to further climb the Baseball ladder. Notes:
'Irish Fire' spends another season cooling his heels on the reserve roster and is not a happy camper as the Browns finish 61-93 in the NL despite a lineup that features Frank Chance and Dann McGann. Notes:
Jestor makes a big splash earning 49 starts at 2B and 57 at 3B as the Brewers finish 3rd in the NL at 90-64 and Izulde becomes the first to haul in some major hardware in celebration of a solid season that saw him 2nd in the NL with 81 RBI, and the dubious honor of first in K's with 105. Notes:

1905 Season - Part 2
Gale seemed destined for great things in the Pacific Coast League, but he could not stay healthy as the Seals finish 64-76 in 6th place in the PCL. The Seals hope a healthy Gale will team with Charlie Comiskey (.312 in 1905) to improve their fortunes in 1906. First Gale needs to learn not catch barehanded. Notes:
Our pitchers are having a tough time escaping the reserve roster as Neilsen collects an ass full of slivers for the second year in a row. Pittsburgh takes their 5th straight NL pennant but fall the New York Highlanders in the series. Notes:
Shepard finds a home in the Rocky Mountains, though he does not get a chance to play for the Bees, spending much of the season on the reserve roster, with Salt Lake taking 2nd in the PCL at 85-55. Notes:
Our lone representative from the great white north lands a spot with the World Champion Highlanders, but unfortunately he will not be around to collect a ring as he is shipped to the Sox and gets in a consolation appearance and his first Major League hit as Chicago places 7th in the AL at 65-89. 1905 Season - Part 3
Hutt finds a home in the major leagues with the Brew crew, but is unable to find his way off of the reserve roster, but will look to challenge incumbent Ed Abbaticchio (.234) for the 2B job in 1906. Notes:
Justice finds a home in Seattle and despite less than 400 at bats is the number 2 home run hitter in the league as the Rainers go 68-72 and finish 4th. Notes:
Young William's prowess with the glove earns him a spot on the Browns regular roster where he sees regular duty as a defensive replacement and pinch runner, though his bat is anemic. Notes:

1906 Season - Part 1
Friday slides into the starting role for the Cubbies and though he struggles at the plate, he throws out 48% of baserunners and is solid defensively. Chicago finishes 6th in the NL going 71-83 and hitting only .221 as a team. Notes:
Ginsberg has turned into one of the bright young stars of the Texas League, which bodes poorly for Midland as he has not signed for 1907 at this time and is looking to move up the Baseball ladder. The Dusters finish 5th in the Texas League, with Ginsberg leading the team in Average, Homeruns and RBI and leading the league in homers for the 2nd straight season. Notes:
At last O'Rourke is off the reserve roster and starts the season in the rotation. His fastball is feared, but as much as it's speed, its the fact that he can not control that strikes fear into the hearts of batter and prompts the st Louis cranks to change his nickname to 'Irish Wildfire'. The Browns finish 56-98 in 7th place and Mike leads the league in walks and is third in strikeouts. Notes:
The next big thing has arrived as young Jestor guides the Brewers to a 2nd place finish in the NL as they come in 93-61, 4 games behind the dynasty that is Pittsburgh. Jestor is a one man wrecking crew leading the league in hits, HR, RBI, runs and batting average earning the adulation of Milwaukee and another major award. Notes:

1906 Season - Part 2
Gale stays healthy and puts together a solid season for the Seals, who unfortunatelt finish 65-75 in 7th place. in the process Gale racks up a 21 game hit streak that is snapped by Portlands Bill Steele on July 25th in a 3-2 Seals win. Notes:
At last Neilsen feels the earth of a big league park under his feet, joining a Pirates rotation that features Jesse Tannehill (28-10, 1.50) and Tommy Bond (26-13, 2.01). Neilsen helps the Alleghenys to their 6 straight pennant and 5th World Series title as they defeat the Boston Pilgrims. Perhaps Rob's finest moment is a 13 inning 2-1 complete game vistory over Christy Mathewson and the Giants on August 8th. Notes:
Tim struggles to hit PCL pitching in limited duty for the Bees, who fall from 2nd in 1905 to 6th in 1906 going 71-69 as their pitching let them down. Notes:
Bafou breaks through starting at all three outfield positions at various times and earning various accolades for the Sox, who finish 76-78, taking 5th in the AL. It looks like Bafou has cemented his spot as a regular and is slated to be the starter in RF in 1907 for the windy city's second favorite sons. Despite picking up 4 monthly awards he loses out on the AL Rookie of the Year award to Orioles pitcher Bill Bailey. Notes:

1906 Season - Part 3
Hutt latches on as a part timer with the bridesmaid Brewers and when he isn't sharpening Jestor's spikes he manages to get his feet wet and whack his first major league homer off of Nielsen's teamate Frank Killian. Notes:
Justice is becoming the darling of the pacific northwest as he finishes third in the PCL in batting and leads the league in walks for the 2nd place Rainiers who finish 79-61 and will have their eyes set on a pennant in 1907 with Justice and Deacon White (.303) leading the offense. Notes:
Players and fans alike marvel at Omark's glove work, while snickering at his work with the ash, as he struggles again to hit big league pitching while playing a fine hot corner in the field. The fiesty New Yorker runs with a fury on the basepaths, which earns his teammates respect as he works to improve his hitting. Notes:

1907 Season - Part 1
Jason has his best season to date, tallying the 2nd highest number of home runs in the major leagues behind the records setting total of one of our other young stars. The Cubs improve to 77-77, but it is still only good enough for 5th. Notes:
Joining Friday's old teammate McGraw on the Shamrocks is Ginsberg, who had hoped to move up in stature after leaving Midland in the Texas League, but insteads ends up in the Eastern League. He has another solid year as the Shamrocks win their second straight EL Pennant going 78-42. Notes:
An amazing turnaround for O'Rourke, who while still wild, strikes out a modern record 395 hitters in 332.2 innings pitched, second all-time to Matt Kilroys 513 in 1886. O'Rourke keys a huge turnaround as the Browns go from 56-98 in 1906 to 84-70, good for 3rd place in the NL. Notes:
Not to be outdone, Jestor becomes the first player post 1900 to crack over 20 home runs as he wows crowds through out the NL with his power. Unfortunately he can not carry the Brewers alone as they slip to 76-78 and finish 17 games behind another pennant winning performance by the Pittsburgh nine. 1907 is Jestor's third straight year leading the league in homers and his second leading in RBI's, but his is denied a second triple crown as Honus Wagner (.352) takes the NL batting crown. Notes:

1907 season - Part 2
Gale has his best season uey, leading the Seals offense as they finish in 4th place in the PCL at 69-71, but still 15 games back of pennant winners Vernon. Gale is the PCL's number two batter, and while healthier than in past seasons, he was still dinged up numerous times due to his agressive play. Notes
The Alleghenys raced to their 7th straight pennant in continuing their domination of the National League. Unfortunately they were swept by the Washington Senators in the World Series and Neilsen missed a big chunk of the season with injuries. He did return in time to make a start in the Series, but lost 7-5. Notes:
Tim improves greatly on his 1906 season starting over 80 games for the Bees who finish 68-72, coming in 5th place. Despite his improvement Shepard still had the dubious honor of leading the league in strieouts. Notes:
Bafou has an up and down season for the Sox, putting together good spurts, but also succumbing to the injury bug on more than one occassion as the White Sox come in 25 games back of pennant winning Washington at 68-86, a disappointing 6th place. To make matters worse, after the season ends Chicago decides he no longer fits into their future plans. Notes:

1907 Season - Part 3
Hutt sees his role expand beyond Izulde's clubhouse caddy and becomes the regular second baseman for the Brewers. Despite the low average Hutt is solid in the field and owns a couple of solid pitchers in the league hitting .571 against the Reds Tricky Nichols and .389 against Pittsburgh ace Tommy Bond. His performance, especially on defense is also good enough to impress post season voters and earn his own hardware. Notes:
Justice continues to excel in the pacific northwest winning the PCL batting title and the home run crown, as the Rainiers finish 3rd at 79-61. Frank is still hoping to be discovered by a big league club back east, but in the meantime has been referred to as the Izulde Jestor of the PCL. When asked how he felt about that Justice replied "who the hell is that?" Notes:
Providing yet another year of stellar defense, the speedy Omark improves at the plate and joins the upper echelon of base stealers in the majors leading the league in that category, while setting a modern day record for strikeouts. Omark is now entrenched as the Browns leadoff hitter and adds some post-season haerdware of his own. Notes:
Wood has a rough time finding the plate in his pro debut, but Buffalo management is still confident he will become a top pitcher in the Eastern League, a hope likely driven by greed, with the goal being to sell him off to the highest bidder in the majors as he progresses. The Niagras finish dead last in the EL at 51-69. Notes:

1908 Season - Part 1
Friday continues his ascent offensively and is now considered one of the finest Catchers in the game, compiling a .987 fielding percentage and throwing out over 43% of potential base stealers to go with his superb hitting. Unfortunatelt the Cubs continue to struggle, finishing 24 games off the pace in 6th place. Notes:
Ginsberg is putting together a solid career in the Eastern League and has been called the Honus Wagner of the league because of his growing hitting prowess, though he still craves a call from a big league team. Lowell rides Ginsbergs bat to the EL pennant finishing 68-52 and Ginsberg wins his second straight batting title. Notes:
O'Rourke and his flaming fastball continue to cut swathes through NL lineups as he fans an astonishing 415 batters in 348.1 innings, breaking his own record. The only question now is can his arm hold up or will he go the way of Noodles Hahn, burning out in a blaze of glory. The Browns rise to third in the NL, finishing 10 back in third. Notes:
Jestor adds the highest honor of all to his mantle place as he leads the Brewers to the NL Pennant, breaking the 7 year strangle hold of the Pittsburgh Alleghenys atop the NL, though unfortunately they fall 4-3 in a tense World Series battle that thrills fans across the country. Despite missing almost 50 games, Jestor captures his 4th straight home run crown, topping off a spectacular season at the plate. William Omark, with children, circa 1959. In real life, William Omark was my grandfather (1923-1997) and he was in fact a semi-pro third baseman. I don't know what his true skillset was, but I always imagined him being fast and a good fielder. My dad is the short funny looking one in the middle. 1908 Season - Part 2
Gale has a bit of an off season as rumors circulate he wants out of San Francisco. The Seals plummet to 7th place in the PCL at 61-79 and playing in cavernous Corbett Field is not a bonus for offensive players as Bentons three roundtrippers lead the club. Notes:
Nielsen, who is turning into a clubhouse leader for the Pittsburgh nine records his best ERA yet as a pro, but his season is also marred by disappointment as the Alleghenys come in 2nd to the hated Milwaukee Brewers and their flambouyant leader Izulde Jestor. On top of that Nielsen sustains an injury in August that could threaten his career and makes it highly unlikely he will pitch in 1909. Notes:
Shepard records yet another solid season for the Bees who finish 3rd in the PCL at 78-62 led by Harry Stovey and Frank 'Home Run' Baker, in addition to Shepard who is not at flashy, but is a consistent workman, hitting 4th for the Salt Lake club. Notes:
Bafou started his stint in Hilldale on a rather ominous note missing a large chunk of the season and coming in at a paltry .195 for the year. Still the Giants, who finished 12 games back of Lowell in 6th place, are positive Bafou has a future and lured him back into the fold at season end when he was set to pack his bags and leave. Notes:
