OPENING SEASON COMMENTS
Heh. The War Chickens are suspended from post-season competition for rules violations. That's a joke, as they haven't BEEN to postseason competition for quite some time.

Heh. The Good Ol' Boys have come through in a big way. The regents have agreed to construct what will be the largest stadium in college football, a 108,700-seat monster that will open in 2014! Nice!

DE Ike Murray, who had ACL Damage, has left the team due to his injury.

ACADEMICS: 61 reputation, 15th overall ranking. We improve 4 more points in reputation, and 8 more spots in ranking. Very nice. We're in the Top 10 in four major areas now.
PRESTIGE: 85. We lose one point.

Both Florida and Tennessee on the schedule once again this year, but no USC or UGA, so that's helpful. Florida has the best-looking squad in the SEC--and maybe the nation. QB Brent Dinkins could make a run at the Heisman this year. He's got a great TE and two very good WR's in his arsenal. LSU looks like they could challenge us for the SEC West title. They've got a 20/100 QB named Lamar Raymond who just came off his red-shirt year. He could be an NFL star one day. USC and Tennessee both look like they have the potential to upset Florida.

ROSTER
(Starters bold-faced and underlined, red-shirts appear red and italicized.)

QUARTERBACKS (SCOUT: Good)

Player # Pos Elig Current Estimate Future Estimate
O'Neal, Isaac 5 QB SR(RS) 49 64
Coleman, Glenn 17 QB JR(RS) 27 53
Griffin, Todd 13 QB SO(RS) 24 53
Pritchett, Bryant 15 QB FR 17 60
Romund, J.R. 14 QB(WO) SO(RS) 15 39

Tough decision to make here. Coleman has much better green bars than any other of the QB's, so I give him the start initially.

BACKS (SCOUT: Excellent)
Flowers, Max 46 RB JR(RS) 81 100
Collins, Seth 34 RB SR(RS) 65 74
Pannell, Max 23 RB FR 39 63
Stone, Alonzo 20 RB(WO) 8 43 51
Ross, Casey 27 RB(WO) 8 9 9
May, Jim 24 FB SR(RS) 86 86
Ainsworth, Victor 41 FB FR 22 63
Patton, Wendell 30 FB(WO) JR(RS) 31 37

Flowers is coming off of a nice season, and appears poised to become a national star over the next couple of years, and Collins ain't exactly chopped liver as a backup. The red-shirting Pannell looks like he should have a strong future, too. at FB, May is an outstanding blocker and very good runner

RECEIVERS (SCOUT: Excellent)
Branch, Tim 94 TE 8 54 68
Puckett, Johnnie 84 TE SR(RS) 40 60
McCray, Trent 87 TE FR 28 69
Whiting, Lester 93 TE SO(RS) 28 76
Hansen, Cory 89 TE(WO) JR(RS) 20 54
Dunlap, Preston 8 WR 8 78 88
Buggelli, Richie 1 WR SR(RS) 71 71
Palmer, Burt 2 WR SO(RS) 52 99
Sprincz, Timothy 82 WR JR(RS) 39 65
Coles, Stanley 81 WR FR 23 70
Fleming, Horace 80 WR(WO) 8 5 5
Arnold, Ian 9 WR(WO) 8 4 10

Plenty of depth at TE, but none are anything special. Dunlap and Buggelli are both proven commodities, and Palmer, who'll be WR3, looks like a true stud in the making.

OFFENSIVE LINE (SCOUT: Pretty Good)
Palkowski, Tyrus 51 C JR(RS) 45 65
Hausermann, Lance 58 C 8 44 87
Nixon, Jesse 55 C FR 21 69
Norris, Julio 57 C(WO) SO(RS) 19 50
Stokes, Fred 60 G SR(RS) 61 70
Walters, Ethan 61 G SO(RS) 47 71
Curtis, Leslie 70 G 8 46 63
McCormick, Tito 73 G JR(RS) 36 69
Gordon, Quentin 79 G FR 15 74
Schwartz, Frank 69 G(WO) SR(RS) 22 48
Clodfelter, Marvin 74 G(WO) SR(RS) 5 5
Osborne, Gary 67 T JR(RS) 56 64
Birk, Bernard 62 T SR(RS) 23 83
Freeman, Broderick 66 T SO(RS) 21 54
Hickman, Blake 71 T FR 19 82

The starting offensive line is nothing to write home about, but the youngsters are might have some promise.

KICKING GAME (SCOUT: Terrible)
Greene, Emmanuel 12 P SR(RS) 76 76
Roberts, Lawrence 11 P FR 41 71
Brady, Roman 16 P(WO) 8 31 33
Greene, Daniel 3 P(WO) SO(RS) 0 24
Parker, Ellis 6 K SO(RS) 30 83
Cote, Brent 19 K(WO) JR(RS) 13 30

With a "Terrible" scout, and neither Greene nor Parker seeing any action last year, the kicking game is a bit of a crap shoot this year.

DEFENSIVE LINE (SCOUT: Excellent)
Baughman, Duane 95 DE SR(RS) 73 73
Tubbs, Johnnie 98 DE 8 28 55
Stedman, Edwin 97 DE FR 14 76
Kennedy, Freddie 75 DE SO(RS) 12 38
Cook, Kendall 63 DE(WO) SO(RS) 8 19
Landon, Edwin 76 DE(WO) FR 6 24
McKinney, Terry 96 DT 8 63 71
Emmons, Isaac 90 DT SO(RS) 26 49
Winslett, Isaac 72 DT SR(RS) 25 44
Harmon, Van 91 DT JR(RS) 10 58
Huffman, Walt 92 DT FR 10 76
Limon, Lenny 77 DT(WO) SO(RS) 18 21
Carnahan, Julio 65 DT(WO) SO(RS) 8 20

Baughman and McKinney are the obvious strengths here. We need one or two other guys to step up.

LINEBACKERS (SCOUT: Terrific)
Linquist, Jorge 53 ILB JR(RS) 35 80
Barker, Bernard 50 ILB SR(RS) 33 53
Seinfeld, Roy 45 ILB SO(RS) 26 99
Woodford, Clyde 56 ILB(WO) 8 39 56
Sapia, Donald 48 ILB(WO) FR 10 10
Raymond, Quentin 52 OLB SR(RS) 79 79
Whetstone, T.J. 43 OLB JR(RS) 59 75
Farrell, Mitchell 54 OLB SO(RS) 31 53
Hampton, Earl 42 OLB 8 23 56
Nelson, Vincent 59 OLB SR(RS) 21 60
Harden, Irv 40 OLB FR 9 67
Flowers, Ike 99 OLB(WO) 8 22 28
Abreu, K.C. 64 OLB(WO) SR(RS) 6 6

Of course, graduates Andy Copeland and Vince Heck will be missed, but this bunch isn't exactly chopped liver, especially if Seinfeld can live up to his billing. With him having so much potential, and there being a pretty small current talent gap, I decide to give him the start at MLB from Day 1.

SECONDARY (SCOUT: Decent)
Boesiger, Richard 38 CB SR(RS) 69 69
Quinn, Ethan 37 CB JR(RS) 48 92
Durham, Burt 21 CB 8 45 62
Marte, Stanley 31 CB SO(RS) 38 85
Nugent, Lincoln 33 CB FR 18 53
Horner, Gene 44 CB(WO) JR(RS) 37 37
Key, Matt 22 S 8 44 72
Everett, Shane 47 S SR(RS) 32 45
Treu, Grant 28 S SO(RS) 27 71
Lofton, Bernard 35 S FR 19 61
Mascorella, Lenny 32 S(WO) JR(RS) 25 69
Fregoso, Paul 25 S(WO) 8 8 8

I feel very good about my current CB situation, plus both of them will return next year. The safeties are a bit of a concern.

OVERALL ROSTER THOUGHTS
This looks like it could be a rebuilding year. With early-season games at Miami and Florida, we should find out pretty quickly what we're made of. If we get spanked in both of those, look for some younger kids to get the chance to play and develop.

WEEK ONE
RECRUITING UPDATE
Schollies to offer this year: QB, RB, TE, WR, G, T, DE, DT, OLB, CB, S
Walk-ons to induce: RB, FB, WR, C, T

Worth noting early: The #2 player overall, and #1 QB in the nation, Robert Moe, is from Franklin, LA, only 339 miles from Tuscaloosa. I visit his home the first wek, and it turns out he's an Acad/Dist guy. I'm rated 72 in his major. I'm going to make a run at him.

OTHER SEC ACTION THIS WEEK
Notre Dame 17, USC 10
Iowa 24, Ol' Miss 10
LSU 38, UNC 25
Arkansas 38, Troy 16

OUR GAME: Akron (0-0) at #11 Alabama (0-0) (-7) [TV2]
Well, we won, but this one was wayyyyyyyyyy too close for comfort, considering the level of the opposition. For starters, QB Glenn Coleman separated his shoulder on a QB Draw on the 2nd play of the ball game and will miss around 5 weeks of action. Isaac O'Neal replaced him and didn't exactly inspire confidence with a four-interception performance. RB Flowers, of course, was a bright spot, carrying the ball 24 times for 131 yards and 3 TD's to lead us to a 38-35 win. We actually trailed this one at the beginning of the fourth quarter, too. The defense gave up 333 passing yards, but did come up with 3 interceptions. All in all, this did nothing to assuage my concerns that this might just have to be a rebuilding year.

POST-GAME INJURY REPORT
(*--new injury this week)
*QB Glenn Coleman, separated shoulder, Out, 5
