Jackson has a Best Picture Oscar and the name recognition that comes with it. I suspect that was a significant factor in his draft position.

Never heard of Arad either. Same with Heyman. The Twilight movies made a lot of money too, but, I couldn't name the director or producer to save my life without looking it up.

Plus, if you take away Arad's 'Executive Producer' roles, he's made as a producer, 1.55 billion total in 11 movies, compared to Jackson's 1.38 billion in 6 movies.

DrAFTjunkie has sent in two picks but has not given me permission to pick them early. So instead, the clock is used in this case.

13.10 "Planet Westwater" IP (original)

Genre: Very Dark Comedy

Synopsis: On the weekend that her overbearing mother is coming to town, Frances' son has invited his new boyfriend over for dinner.

Jack Nicholson stars as Ernie Westwater, a Long Island novelist whose first book was an instant classic, but he's failed to live up to it's success in the 32 years since. He's a disheveled, quirky kind of guy, without much in the dept. of social graces. Despite being a no luck sad sack with an increasing case of paranoia, he's strangely likable. At the moment, he is convinced that his neighbor Seamus is in the witness protection program, and obsessesed with finding out why.

Merryl Streep stars as his wife Frances who sells handmade doll clothing on the internet. Although pushing 60, she's still caring for her two live-in adult children like they were teenagers. Ironically, her own elderly mother still attempts to rule her life via nagging emails and text messages. Frances is having a hard time pretending to be happy, and is always on the verge of snapping, although she never does. The Westwaters have a third child, but being the only normal one of the bunch, she flew the coop after college.

Jim Carrey stars as Andrew, the 37 year-old tempermental, flamboyantly gay, party boy son. Nuff said.

Scarlett Johansson stars as Anastasia, the 24 year-old semi-employed foot model (take that Tarantino). Unimpressed by relationships and sex, she spends most of her time posting on conspiracy theory message boards. As they have very similar personalities, she is her father's partner in crime, so to speak. He is her hero.

Will Smith stars as James Henderson, Andrew's boyfriend. He's a professional--some kind of business man. Ernie and his daughter suspect that James might be straight and "going through a phase" or something. They conspire to test his gayness. As Anastasia learns, you really have to dig deep to find any kind of gayness about him. Meanwhile, Frances is freaked out that James is black. She's worried what her mother will think.

Bette Davis stars as Frances' mother, known only as "mother." Even her AIM screen name is Mother. She's a rich, crotchedy old snatch who is also an avid racist.

Daniel Day Lewis has a cameo as Seamus, the Westwater's strange irish neighbor. He's middle aged, and straight off the boat irish, but dresses, thinks and acts "gangsta"

14.1 Atlas Shrugged, IP

I always thought this novel would make a fantastic movie.

Do we want to keep everything in order or can we jump in the last round if the people you are waiting for have filled the category? Izulde is done with actresses and that is the last thing I need so.. if there are no issues, I'll just pick.

The link you clicked to says 2.7 billion??? How do you get 1.55 He's listed as producer on two of the three Spider Man movies alone, plus both Hulks, FF, X3, Iron Man, etc. No way that equals 1.55.

Plus, I agree that exec producer is a different thing, but since many other people were extorting Exec Pro credit, I figured that using that same logic, Avi Arad was much better.

There's also some confusion in these things. IMDB lists Avi Arad as the producer for X3. The site linked to above lists it as an Exec Pro credit. Wikipedia lists it as producer. The Internet is inconsistent?!?!?!?

I subtracted the dollar amount for the movies he was executive producer and that's how I got the 1.55. I don't know if the numbers on Box Office Mojo account for foreign sales though.

As far as executive producer goes, that person really doesn't have much to do with the project other than trying to secure funding and other PR stuff in my opinion and very little to do with the actual 'art' of making the movie.

And doing a little more digging, looks like there's a ARI Arad and a AVI Arad and Box Office Mojo has nothing for Avi and Iron Man even though it appears they update the site on a regular basis. But IMDB does. So, color me confused at this point. But, I do say, on a name recognition basis, I think more people would recognize Peter Jackson over Avi Arad. Or it could just be I'm really not a comic book junkie and that's why his name is not familiar to me.

Agreed. I'm not going to expect a voter to look up my producer's credits. I went with names and think I got a good balance with De Mille and Weinstein.

13.7 The untouched musical comedies of Stephen Sondheim (Into the Woods, Company, Assassins), IP

With big musical talent, a director/choreographer the likes of Kelly and Dark Comedy master Nichols, what better works to get than that of musical dark comedy genius Stephen Sondheim.

Into the Woods, the musical comedy of classic fairy tale characters wishing for their dreams and getting everything they want, and then suffering the consequences that everything they want does not always lead to happiness. John Lasseter is on board to make several Animated sequences and characters. Featuring Julie Andrews as Cinderella, George Clooney as the Prince, James Stewart as the Baker, Angela Landbury as the Baker's Wife, Michael Caine as the Narrator/Mysterious Man and Johnny Depp as The Wolf. And in a surprise twist, Judy Garland as The Witch.
Company features the story of Bobby a bachelor who likes to sleep around and how he views his friends, 5 married couples and how their relationships work (and don't work). Perfect for Reiner/Nichols to helm and Kelly to choreograph. Hearing Julie Andrews sing "Another Hundred People" and the drug-addicted version of Garland sing "Ladies Who Lunch" would be so worth it.
Assassins is about...assassins throughout history like John Wilkes Booth, Lee Harvey Oswald, and Squeaky Fromm who sing out all of their angst and motivations. Makes me wish I had drafted Neil Patrick Harris. This would make an excellent animated film. (psst, Lasseter get to work)

I always enjoy these type of drafts so, thanks for running this one.

Now I just need to put my studio up for the voters. Hopefully they understand that I was trying to draft a type of studio to make a certain type of movie rather than a hall of fame cast.

14.2 - The Beautiful Girl and the History Class - Intellectual Property

Brigitte Bardot as Melody, Robin Williams as either Prof. Morengay or F.W. Heath Ledger as Drake. Maybe a young Humphrey Bogart as Nick. I'm sure we can cast Penelope or Rosario as Drake's girlfriend. Quite simply, this is a movie I'd love to see, though I'm not entirely sure about the casting choices from my own studio. Be a good collab effort though.
