FOFC 30 Dollar Challenge - OOTP 15: Complete
OK, we are set to start play with our 44 game 30 Dollar Challenge League (For an overview of the setup/rules click the link below to the main forums)
Pick your $30 Baseball team and we'll settle it on the field The league is set and we welcome our 12 member teams who will compete in the initial challenge. The stakes are high as a an autographed Steve Garvey baseball goes to the winner!! In this thread you will set your batting order, pitching rotation and how you all want to use Rivera and Eckersley out of the pen (one as a setup, one as closer) Example: Roughnecks 1- Henderson LF 2- Collins 2B 3- Greenberg 1B 4- Ruth RF 5- Mantle CF 6- Pujols 3B 7- Piazza C 8- Rodriguez SS 9- Pitcher 1- Johnson 2- Carlton Set up- Eckersley Closer- Rivera Once we have everyone in we will start. The lineups will remain the same for the entire 44 game schedule, no changes. Last edited by BYU 14 : 06-22-2014 at 03:58 PM. |

Lotta love for Maddux with 6 teams. Our top picks with 7 teams each were Pujols and the roid twins A-Rod and Bonds. See, even you guys will compromise principal to win I will finish getting setup today and hopefully get the opening series in tonight, tomorrow at the latest. |

My team doesn't really have a strategy, I just tried going more for offense than pitching. Loved Maddux so I had to get him instead of the $1 guy. Even though I don't like the Yankees, I wanted the middle of my lineup to be the Yankees guys. Then just filled out the rest with little analysis done.
Really thought hard about getting Cobb or Henderson, maybe trying to do some sort of speed and defense team. But ended up with what I have now instead. Picked the Rogers Centre just because that's the Toronto stadium. Not sure if it fits my team or what. |

I didn't exactly spend all that much time dwelling on my picks. I do like the heart of my order, however.

I feel like our squad is very balanced. I considered going with a lineup featuring Bonds at the lead off spot to maximize his plate appearances, but ultimately decided he'd have a better chance at RBI's in the 3 spot with Pujols as solid protection. I just hope Rickey gets on base and Dimaggio strings together a streak.

There are definitely some murder's row middle orders in here, but I have to admit the lineup that intrigues me is Tarcones. Too pretty solid $3 pitchers and a lot of speed and defense in that starting 8. It will be interesting to see how that stacks up against some of the Earl Weaver builds

I think we are going to be tough. We've spent more money on pitching than any other team, but at this level there isn't a whole lot to separate 1 from 5.
Our lineup lacks in the defense department. But I'm hoping to lean heavily on the pitching to make up for it. Our order goes r/l/r and so on right down the line and Mantle sits right in the middle as a switch. Looking to get guys on base any way possible add some power and hope that a pitching heavy park plays to my advantage.
