Pirates vs. Royals: An Interactive Dynasty
This is an interactive dynasty with a bit of a twist. There will be 8 participants, but the players will be divided into two teams. The idea will be that one year two bottom feeding teams will have a once in a lifetime draft. They will each acquire four players with hall of fame potential. The dynasty will follow the careers of those players and how they impact their teams. Another twist is that the instead of coming up with ratings based on point distribution, the participants will pick a hall of fame player for their ratings to be based on.
If you want to participate, reply with... Name: Team: (Either Pirates or Royals) Ratings: Pick a hall of fame player for your ratings/position to be based on. I'll do this by taking control of the Pirates and Royals during the draft and using the Player Import feature when it is their turn to draft. I'll be using an import year that is 2 years before the player made their MLB debut, but I'll make sure that the initial current ratings aren't too low and will adjust if necessary. I'll be using OOTP 11 and the dynasty will start with real rosters as of the 2010 season.

My initial pick would have been Koufax. Already taken. Looked at the first 3 players going to the Pirates. Instead of taking an ace, I went '27 Yankees rout. Let's see 4 studs in the lineup!

My first choice would have been Ty Cobb.
Pirates baseball will now be about outscoring everybody!!

I just wanted to be the tablesetter for the Royals. Get on base, good obp, lots of stolen bases, and then kingfc22 with his Ty Cobb like player can drive me in.

Sorry Brad, we're already full for the first set of players. If the dynasty goes well, I'll probably continue it after the original 8 have all retired and the Pirates-Royals likely need to rebuild again.

The Royals have a 1-2 punch in the starting lineup and in the starting rotation.

Sorry about that. I'd add a 5th for each team, but I think that might be overdoing it.

The 2010 season is underway and our two teams have had surprising starts. The Royals are 37-27 and the Pirates are 31-32, both good enough for only 1.5 games back in their division. However, due to dismal performances in 2009 the Pirates had the 2nd pick in the amateur draft and the Royals have the 4th. Inside sources in both organizations are very confident about the group of players they've selected. Here are the 1st-4th round picks for both teams...

End of 2010 Regular Season
Here are the final minors stats for all levels in 2010. Team listed is where the player finished the year. Pirates Todd Volmert - Bradenton (A). .261, 5 HR, 48 RBI, 20 BB, in 73 games. Jolton Joe - West Virginia (A). .317, 14 HR, 51 RBI, 48 BB in 64 games. Carmen Hillebrew - West Virginia (A). .297, 10 HR, 35 RBI, 30 BB in 57 games. Sonny Ciccarelli - Pittsburgh (ML). After another successful stint in AAA, he was called up late in the season and actually started three straight crucial games for the Pirates. ML - .267, 1 HR, 3 RBI, 1 BB, 3 SB in 4 games. Minors - .312, 26 HR, 75 RBI, 43 BB in 73 games. Royals David Ginsberg - Idaho Falls (R). 9-3, 2.21 ERA, 162 K, 25 BB in 14 starts. David Gonzalez - Wilmington (A). .286, 3 HR, 37 RBI, 24 BB, 17 SB in 70 games. Dave Corson - Burlington (R). 8-2, 2.25 ERA, 152 K, 37 BB in 13 starts. Mike Schaplowski - Northwest Arkansas (AA). .276, 3 HR, 30 RBI, 23 BB, 13 SB in 72 games. So I was correct about the Royals postseason chances being over. They finished a respectable 84-75, but that was 14 games behind the Twins. However, I was wrong about the Pirates. A Cardinals collapse allowed the Pirates back into the race and they won the division on the final day of the season. So not only do the Pirates make the playoffs, but Sonny Ciccarelli will already be getting a taste of the postseason.

2010 Postseason - Divisional Round
Pittsburgh Pirates vs. Colorado Rockies Game 1 at Colorado - Not only did Ciccarrelli earn a start, but he's been plugged into the #3 hole in the lineup. That's quite a bit of pressure for the youngster. He gets off to a great start, singling in the first run of what would end up being a 6 run Pirates first inning. That would be the lone highlight as Sonny failed to get on base the rest of the game and the Pirates blow their 6-0 lead when Jason Giambi hits a game tying two run HR in the 8th and singles home the winning run in the 10th. Sonny was 1-5, 1 RBI, 1 K. Colorado 9, Pittsburgh 8 Game 2 at Colorado - Another subpar outing for both Sonny and the Pirates. More bullpen issues haunting the Pirates as what was a close 2-1 game in the 8th inning turned into a 6-1 blowout in the 8th. Sonny was 1-4, 1 K. Colorado 6, Pittsburgh 1 Game 3 at Pittsburgh - Sonny takes a seat on the bench for this one as the Pirates move Andrew McCutcheon to #3 and Lastings Milledge to leadoff, but it's Garret Jones who gets the Pirates off to a good start with a 2 run HR in the 1st inning. With the game tied 4-4 in the 8th, Augie Ojeda hit a sac fly in the bottom of the 8th that proved to be the winning run. Sonny pinch hit in the 7th and drew a walk. Pittsburgh 5, Colorado 4 Game 4 at Pittsburgh - Sonny is back in the lineup at the #3 spot and he makes the most of his second chance. He hits a single and double early on, but is stranded both times. The game is a scoreless tie until the 8th inning when Sonny hits a solo home run! Garret Jones follows up with a HR of his own and the shaky Pirates pen holds on to stave off elimination. Sonny was 3-4, 1 RBI, 1 R. Pittsburgh 2, Colorado 1 Game 5 at Colorado - Sonnt singles and scores in the 4th inning to help stake the Pirates to a 3-0 lead. Unfortunately, starter Paul Maholm gives up 5 runs over the next 3 innings. Facing as 6-5 deficit, the Pirates have 3 innings to save their season, but they only get one more base runner. It was a great and surprising run for Pittsburgh, but their season is finally over. Colorado 6, Pittsburgh 5. Despite the loss, it was a successful playoff debut overall. His splits were .353/.389/.588 and had a key HR in game 4. He will almost certainly have a starting job on opening day 2011.

Quote:
The AI has actually moved Volmert to RF and Hillebrew to LF. Perhaps more problematic is that Sonny and Jolton are both CF and the Pirates already have a good young CF in McCutchen.

2011 Preseason Update
*Sonny has indeed won a ML roster spot. He will be platooning with McCutchen as Sonny starts against RHP and McCutchen against LHP. *The Royals aren't too far behind in getting guys to the ML. Both SP David Ginsberg and SS Mike Schaplowski are at the AAA affiliate in Omaha. *The Royals other two players, SP Dave Corson and RF David Gonzalez are at AA in Northwest Arkansas. *Todd Volmert is at the Pirates AA affiliate in Altoona. *The remaining two Pirates, LF Carmen Hillebrew and CF Jolton Joe, are at A level Bradenton. *The Pirates major transactions included resigning RF Lastings Milledge for 1 year at $4.8 million, 3B Andy Laroche for 1 year, $1.7 million, and trading RF Brandon Moss for SS Jayson Nix. The Pirates went after SP Tim Hudson and SP Grant Balfour, but could not close either deal. *The Royals resigned SP Gil Meche at 3 years for $36 million, resigned 1B Billy Butler for 1 year at $4.3 million, picked up SP Kevin Correia in free agency for 1 year, $1.4 million, acquired LF Seth Smith for SP Kyle Davies, swapped CF Carlos Gomez for SP Jason Vargas.
