Interviewing for a job in good ol' St Louis!

Have an interview for a job on campus at SLU. Anybody know the area or the school?

Thanks!

Great school. Nice campus. Area is pretty good. Its a typical city University, I imagine.

not sure what specifics you are looking for, but ask if you have questions.

Thanks, but I was hoping for more detailed info about the school. I already had a phone interview with them so I've looked a few minutes on their website, talked about their Jesuit mission, read the wiki page, etc. Hoping for more stuff, if you know of any.

Good basketball program. No football.
There was a dispute between outgoing Father Biodi and the staff of the University. It was pretty ugly. But Biondi retired. So that is over with.
So I imagine the staff is pretty happy right now.
Im not real sure about their programs. Im sure I know people that went there, but cant think of any off hand.

Awesome stuff, thanks tarcone.

What about the area? I've never been to StL. What's the area around the STU like?

Its not a bad area by any means. Smack dab in the middle of downtown and Forest park. The area roght around the school is a good area. The usual fair for entertainment. Not too dangerous. But take that with a grain of salt. It is St. Louis.
Forest park is an awesome place. One of the best parks in the nation. So much to do in that park. It is truly the jewel of the city.
St louis is a nice city. It has some great neighborhoods. The 2nd largest Mardi Gras celebration in North America (Soulard), Incredible Italian food (the Hill), Great night life (Lacledes Landing, Washington St.). And more.
St Louis has a great baseball team, a pretty good hockey team, and an up and coming football team.
The Arch is a great place to visit.
All these areas and things are within 3 or 4 miles of the SLU campus.

Im a fan of St. Louis. I moved here 21 years ago (wow). I didnt know much about it when I moved here, but I am glad I did.

Plan on a long commute. Yes, there are some pockets of good areas around the schools, but overall it's still St. Louis. Most people live in the suburbs. If you're living on campus, you'll at least be insulated from the area around it.

Missed this thread the first time around. Unlike the earlier East St. Louis hotel thread the campus area is pretty safe. That said be very careful about some of the areas right off campus (especially around the university hospital) I think it will be obvious anyways when the cost of living drops by like 50% but there are some super high crime areas close to Grand and Interstate 44 and to the North by Lindell and Olive. Like I said these are off campus or right on the fringe of campus but don't look at them in a daylight and decide it is worth the savings you are talking about a major metropolitan area with some serious crime issues in certain parts of town.

(Sadly this city seems like it has too much pride to admit there is a crime issue in certain parts of town so you will hear how it is all the Northern areas of St. Louis bringing us up into the top 5 of the dangerous city rankings. But this town is dangerous if you wander into the questionable areas and are even in the non questionable areas after midnight. Lot of deadbeats with nothing better to do.)

That sucks but cool to see you've already got another plan in place

Well, on the plus side, no having to put up with Cardinals fans
