The team board and the fans are still simply pleased with my work as manager.

September 5, 2005
Generoso Rossi
and Danny Shittu are both selected on the EPL Team of the Week.

Dani expects to be in the first team. I had sent him with reserves following his injury and was trying to se how Cedric van der Gun could do at AMC. Now, the 29yo midfielder told a national newspaper that he was disillusioned by my selection policy and wantrs to be guaranteed regular first-team football. I may call him back to play first-team but I'm not sure I can guaratee him anything...

September 6, 2005
Chris Day
is unhappy. He wants a new contract. I think the timing couldn't be any worse for him to make that kind of demand, with Generoso Rossi starting to play with the first team. Day wants 31k per week while my assistant says that he is a member of the first team that we could easily replace and recommends offering him no more than 23k. Even that would be too much if Day ends up being a backup to Rossi...

September 7, 2005
Abubakari Yakubu
resumes full training. We're hurting at the defender position and he could very well play sooner rather than later.

League Match #4: we play Manchester city on their pitch. They're currently in 11th place with 1 win and 3 losses. They are evens favourites to win this game.

This game is on TV and key men are presented as Shaun Wright-Phillips for them and Danny Shittu for us. They are predicting a draw for this game.

Man City take the lead 0-1 in the 18th minute after a crazy bending shot from long range finds its way behind Generoso Rossi.

0-1 is the halftime score. We're brutally being outshot 10(9) to 3(1). Rossi is having another strong showing.

Fabrice Fernandes is the architect behind Gianfranco Zola's first ever goal as a Ranger when he feeds him a low cross to the near post, cross that Zola has no problem converting into the equalizer. 1-1 at that point.

Danny Shittu gets a bit too aggressive trying to fight for a throw in inside our area. PENALTY!!! They score on a bullet shot. Down 1-2.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 1, Manchester City 2

Generoso Rossi gets rated at 9 and for good cause, as Man City outshot us 22(18) to 7(4). Sad for him, he's not even selected as Man of the Match, as Shaun Wright-Phillips received a rating of 10 for Man City. Marc Bircham received a rating of 8 in a game where I was seriously thinking about benching him.

ahh..

good old salary demands!

I have a player ~19-21yo. He plays AMC and played in 1/2 of the games last seasons (23 of 50ish).

He wants a pay raise.

His demand: 25k or so..
current salary: 850/week

I, of course, accede to his demands and offer him 18k + 5% + 350k signing bonus.

he accepts.

League Match #5: we play Birmingham at Loftus Road. They are struggling so far this season with no wins, 1 draw and 4 losses. This could be our chances to win one.

And it starts pretty well in the 5th minute, as Güiza converts a nice pass from Fabrice Fernandes inside their penalty area.

It's the only goal of the first half. Shots are pretty even, 4(1) for us, 4(0) for them.

Their left winger gets his second yellow of the game in the 62nd minute. They're left to finish with 10 men in a 4-4-1 formation. We go to a 4-2-2-1-1 (2 DMCs in Santon and van der Gun, 2 wingers, Zola at AMC and Rasiak at striker).

That formation pays off in the 71st minute as Grzegorz Rasiak converts a wonderful pass from Zola to make it 2-0.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 2, Birmingham 0

We outshot them 8(3) to 4(0) meaning we completely blanked them in the second half.

Gianfranco Zola gets the MoM with a rating of 8 and an assist. Güiza also gets a rating of 8. We're in 14th after 5 games, here's the league table:

League Cup round 2: We play Coventry on their pitch. They're currently in 20th place in the Championship. As I said before, we beat them twice last season, but they are 6-4 favourites to win this game.

I swing many lineup changes: Chris Day in at keeper, Christopher Eagles giving a breather to Martin Rowlands, Igor Protti in for Gianfranco Zola and Darryll Powell getting the start at DMC.

This one starts ugly. Even though it's not until the 17th minute that they score a goal, we've been letting them do whatever they want with the ball.

0-1 is the halftime score and we're getting outshot badly, 9(3) to 3(1) with many players rated at 5. I pull Eagles and Protti from the game.

We pull even in the 58th minute after Grzegorz Rasiak finished a long sequence that included passes from/between Abubakari Yakubu, Güiza, and finally Fabrice Fernandes to him.

We go down again in the 77th minute after a ball shot off a throw-in gets deflected against Darryll Powell. DAMN!

We go all out in a last ditch effort to tie the game, but the defence collapses and they score a third goal.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 1, Coventry 3

They outhsot us 15(8) to 11(6) on the game, meaning we played better in the second half, but still not well enough. Crap, out of the League Cup just like that...

Grzegorz Rasiak suffered a bruised jaw and will miss 5 days.

League Match #6: we play Derby on their pitch. They're currently 18th in the EPL with only 2 draws and 3 loses to their record. They promoted from the Championship through the playoffs. We beat them twice last season, 2-1 at home and 3-2 away.

I put Generoso Rossi back in our nets. Unless he amazingly underperforms, he's there to stay. I've had enough of Chris Day. Dani is in at AMC.

Generoso Rossi is called for pushing an opponent on a centered ball. PENALTY!!! Rossi redeems himself by saving it!!!

The half ends with no goals. We're outshooting them 8(6) top 5(3) end even though we are putting our shots on target, we can't buy a goal.

Martin Rowlands has to leave the pitch injured in the 89th minute. We finish the game with 10 players.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 0, Derby 0

A frustrating draw in which we outshot them 16(11) to 10(4). As you'd expect, their keeper gets the MoM with a rating of 10. Rossi, Yakubu, Padula, Bircham, and Dani all get ratings of 8.

Rowlands suffered a bruised thigh and will miss 3 days.

OH CRAP!
As he had just recovered from the bruised thigh suffered in our last match, I hear that Martin Rowlands injured himself in training today. He'll definitely miss our relegation clash against Blackburn on October 1st after suffering a dislocated jaw that should keep him away from the field for three weeks.

Oh, how ironic when later in the day I hear from his agent. Seems that Rowlands is unhappy about his contract, suggesting that his agent could get him a better contract at another club. The attacking midfielder is unhappy with his current deal and is expecting negotiations to begin immediately. Well, sir, let me wait it out a bit...

September 30, 2005

October 1st, 2005
The board and fans are still pleased at my work as manager of the club.

League Match #7: We play Blackburn on their pitch. They're currently in 16th place and finished just out of the frop zone, in 17th place last season. Just like us, they're described as Relegation Battlers.

After seeing Christopher Eagles having a very rough first half in his last start, I decide to opt for Gareth Ainsworth as the starting right winger, in replacement of Martin Rowlands.

The game is on TV and key mean are presented as Marc Bircham for us and tireless midfielder David Thompson for them. TV People can't separate the two sides and are predicting a draw.

It's as close to "must win" as you can get in my opinion...

Must win or not, that one starts ugly as we watch them move the ball at will. They finally score in the 7th minute after many beautiful combinations. We've got an awful number of players rated at 5, that doesn't bode well... While Blackburn has put all their three shots on target so far, we've failed to even get past the centerline, or so it seems...

They add a second goal from long range, but goshdarnit, we're not touching the freaking ball!!! Down 0-2, I try a few things to shake things up. At one point, we were playing a 4-4-1-1 but set with 4D, 4DMC, 1MC and 1AMC...

Fabrice Fernandes gets a yellow in the 41st minute and he starts crying like a 5 year old. His rating drops to 4.

After I put all my players in a more respectable lineup (4D-2DMC-2W-2SC) and I asked my defenders to clear the ball with extra long passes forward, we get some chances. Gianfranco Zola scores on a free kick from just outside their penalty area on our first shot as a team. They've already shot 12(7).

In the 53rd minute, Güiza, who's in for Gzregorz Rasiak, receives a free kick played forward from the centerline by Danny Shittu. Alone with the keeper, he converts it with our second shot as a team!!! Tied 2-2!!!

Final Score: Q.P.R. 2, Blackburn 2

This is just crazy. Dear God I would be pissed if that kind of score had just happened the other way around. They outshot us 19(10) to 3(3), but Rossi turns out to be quite the wonderkeeper, getting the MoM with a rating of 9.

We're in 12th place after 7 games.

AAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGG!!!
Stephen Warnock suffers a torn groin (ouch) and will miss 4 weeks on a first report. As you'd expect, groin injuries usually need either extended physio time, or even surgery and the dreaded surgery is what my physios are recommending right now. He's young, so I send him to surgery and DAMN!!! He will be out of commission for the next 6 months. SIX FRIGGING MONTHS!!!

He's on loan with us and I'm seriously think about terminating his loan deal. I mean, I know it won't help us now, as we wouldn't be able to replace him as one of our two loanees, but 6 months puts back with us in early April...

League Match #8: we play Bolton on their pitch. They're currently in 11th place.

Hierro is back in the middle of our defensive line and we go to a 4-2-2-2 formation with 2 DMCs. They played a diamond 4-3-2-1 formation in their last game but they show a 4-3-3 to start this one.

They're putting a lot of pressure early on and even get a goal disallowed because of offsides in the 8th minute. Again, we start very slow and have four players rating at 5 early on in the game. I will have to figure out what causes these early game jitters.

The half ends 0-0 and we're barely surviving. They're outshooting us 10(3) to 3(1) but that's not the worse. They're winning possession with 70%, 40 of them coming on our end of the field.

We play a much better second half, closing down on their opportunities and creating some for ourselves, but the game remains scoreless.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 0, Bolton 0

Final shots tally came to 12(5) for us and 13(3) for them. Generoso Rossi has another solid game, rating at 8, as does Danny Shittu. Their keeper gets the MoM.

Adam Miller, my backup left winger, in replacement of Stephen Warnock, suffered a calf strain. Initially thought to miss 2 weeks, he'll have to go through 3 weeks of physiotherapy before he's ready to play again.

We've not been hit with a massive amount of injuries but it seems they've all come to the winger position. I immediately recall Lee Cook from his loan at Swindon.

League Match #9: we play Leicester at Loftus Road. They're in 15th place, we're in 14th. They won the Championship, three points ahead of us last season, so it's another very important match against a team that should be beatable.

Big huhoh though, we're 6-4 favourites to win this game...

We go into the game with a somewhat ugly bench, with Christopher Eagles away on international duty. I put Gianfranco Zola in at AMC.

The half ends scoreless. They're taking all sorts of shots from long range and as a result, shots are 2(1) for us, 8(0) for them.

Nobody scores in the second half, although we do get a few more better chances.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 0, Leicester 0

They outshot us 14(2) to 7(3) on the game and it's a good thing Generoso Rossi had another solid game because nobody else played very inspired football...

Gianfranco Zola hurt his shoulder in the game and will miss 5 days.

League Match #10: we play Crystal Palace on their pitch. They're currently in 18th place, one spot below us. With only the relegation line separating our two clubs, this is a very important match. They are 6-4 favourites to win this game.

With Gianfranco Zola just coming back from his injury and still not 100%, I decide to try something and keep him on my bench for later in the game, when the other team's players will be a bit more tired.

This game is on TV and their keeper, Gábor Király, is presented as their key man. They say he can do a great job for his side today and his team-mates can be confident of not conceding too many with him in goal. Danny Shittu is our key man and they say the strong centre-back performs key defensive duties at the heat of the Q.P.R. defence.

They come out showing a 4-3-3 formation.

Abubakari Yakubu is a bit too aggressive following a corner in the 27th minute. PENALTY!!! The player kicks it BUT HITS THE UPRIGHT!!! Still 0-0.

1:24 into injury time, as we keep putting pressure on them, often exchanging the ball inside their penalty area, we finally convert one. Grzegorz Rasiak ended up with a free which he promptly played through a couple of Crystal Palace defender to Güiza who was free to convert it easily from inside the 6 yard box.

1-0 is the halftime score. At that point, we were outshooting them 8(4) to 5(0). We're spending a whole lot of time on their end of the field. I pulled Dani and put Zola in at the half.

Güiza is again in the middle of the action in the 75th minute as he forces one of their defenders into a mistake by getting himself in between a pass from their keeper. That defender's wild clearance ends up in the back of the net for an own goal.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 2, Crystal Palace 0

We outshot them 14(8) to 7(0) on the game. Güiza is selected as Man of the Match with a rating of 10. He took part in both goals, scoring one and forcing their defender into that own goal. A great game from him!

Abubakari Yakubu, Gino PAdula, Danny Shittu. and Fabrice Fernandes all received ratings of 8. I'm kind of happy to see Fernandes finally playing a good game.

Following the game, Q.P.R. chairman Bill Power could not hide his delight over the 2-0 win over our rivals. Despite having been tipped by many for relegation this season, The Rs have made an encouraging start to their campaign and they currently find themselves in a mid-table position. Media are even saying that if they can continue to play as they are now, it may well turn out to be a succesfful season for the club.

After 10th game, so a little over a quarter of the season, we're in 12th place. Here's the league table:

Güiza
is selected to the EPL Team of the Week. A well deserved selection following his great game against Crystal Palace.

October 26, 2005
With him ready to start playing again, I decide to tackle the Martin Rowlands contract issue. He wants a year contract with wages aroung $30,500 per week in addition to a signing fee of $400k. While the board will allow me to offer him up to $41k per week, my assistant thinks he's a current member of our first team squad that would easily replace. He recommends that we restrict any contract offer to a maximum of $23k per week. Considering that Rowlands is currently earning $7,000 per week, I decide to offer him just a bit over the recommended $23k, so I offer him $24k per week with a signing fee of $340k. To that, I keep the minimum fee release clause of $16M that he was asking for. Rowlands is currently valued at $5.6M.

October 28, 2005
Well, that wasn't long. Martin Rowlands signs a lucrative 3 year deal with Q.P.R. valued at $3.6M.

League Match #11: we play Chelsea at Loftus Road. They are currently in 2nd place of the EPL and are 4-7 favourites to win this game.

I keep about the same lineup for that game as the one we had for the Crystal Palace game, with the exception that newly resigned Martin Rowlands is starting for Gareth Ainsworth. Again, Gianfranco Zola is on the bench, ready to wreak some havoc in the second half of the game.

This game is on TV. Danny Shittu is again presented as our key man in this game while commanding centre-back John Terry is Chelsea's. They say Chelsea have only conceded 10 goals in the 12 games he's played in. Bah, we've only conceded 9 in the games that Big Dan has played in

They show a 4-3-3 formation to start this game.

We're playing a solid defensive game early on which is a nice change from some of the games we've played before the Crystal Palace game. We get a corner kick in the 37th minute. Dani plays it short to Fabrice Fernandes who centers it to the near corner of the 6 yard box where Martin Rowlands heads it accross the mouth of the goal for the 1-0 goal!!!

The half ends with us ahead 1-0 although they are outshooting us 7(4) to 3(1). We are winning the possession battle with 59% but 33 of these are us controlling the ball in our end of the field, so not much room for error. As you'd expect, Zola comes in to replace Dani in the AMC spot. Güiza suffered a minor injury in the first half but I keep him in the game at this point.

We're still in the game but Generoso Rossi has to keep making save after save.

I pull out Güiza out in the 63rd minute and replace him with Darryll Powell as we go to a more defensive 4-2-2-1-1 formation with 2 DMCs and only 1 AMC and a striker up top.

Chelsea moves to a very narrow 4-2-3-1 formation (2 MC, 3 AMC, 1 SC) in the 80th minute in hope of breaking our lead.

But...
But...
But...

WE HANG ON!!!

Final Score: Q.P.R. 1, Chelsea 0

There has to be something to be said about this team and playing to their opponent's strengths (or weaknesses). We seem to sometimes pull some great performances against team which should destroy us and we sometimes self-destruct or barely survive against teams we should beat.

They did outshot us badly, 16(6) to 6(1). Generoso Rossi receives the MoM with a rating of 9. He's simply been outstanding since coming back from his global banning. Danny Shittu and Fabrice Fernandes also had good games, both rating at 8. Overall, I had the feeling that the whole team played better, more aggressively seeking out the ball carrier when we were not in possession of the ball.

As a sidenote, I got a kick out of watching the TV analyst eating crowe following the result. Here's what he had to say in his post-match analysis: "I predicted a win for Chelsea today and maybe could have seen Q.P.R. snatching a draw, but I certainly didn't see The Rs winning this one" I tell you, music to the ear

Back to the clubhouse, Bill Power, our chairman just could not hide his delight following the team's win over arch rivals Chelsea.

The R's performances so far this season warrant the top half position they currently occupy, but at this early stage of the season they must be aware that a few defeats would see them head rapidly towards the foot of the table. They might still be favourites to go down but the start they have made to the season has certainly been encouraging.

Speaking of top half position in the table, we're currently since in the nice, albeit precarious, 7th spot in the EPL. Precarious since we've played 11 games already when some teams have yet to play their 10th game of the season. Here's the league table after our 11th game:

If we can only stick this one season in the EPL, save some money and make a splash next season, we could do all right...

Yeah, in the game he's not bad at all. Not great but semi-useful. As a matter of fact, he's considered a "Commanding Centreback" in the demo.

He's not.

Marcus Bignot
had told me that he must be playing regular first team football if he is to stay at Loftus Road. Well, I got news for you, you replacement at right fullback, Abubakari Yakubu, is having a very solid season and unless he gets hurt, you're not about to see the field with the first team, so you may be better to start packing your boxes.

Grzegorz Rasiak strained his calf and he is first thought to mis 2 weeks. My physios recommend I send him see a specialist, which I do. He'll miss three weeks while attending physiotherapy.

Generoso Rossi and Danny Shittu are selected to the EPL Team of the Week. While looking at Rossi's profile, I see that he is still unhappy and wants to be transfer listed. He's currently earning $4,400 per week and maybe a new contract would make him happy. He's requesting a contract with wages around $30,500 per week in addition to a signing on fee of $200k. I offer him $23k per week with a signing on fee of $200k despite the fact that my assistant doesn't believe that renewing Rossi's contract would be worthwhile. Rossi's performances so far this season warrant a new contract to me.

Swindon offers to loan Lee Cook. He could be recalled so I accept.

November 1st, 2005
The team board and fans are now very pleased with my management of the club.

November 2, 2005
Generoso Rossi
has put pen to paper on a lucrative 3 year deal worth $2.6M. He doesn't want to be transfer listed anymore.

I transfer list Chris Day, asking $2M for the keeper valued at $3.6M.

I terminate Stephen Warnock's loan contract since he's useless while recuperating and he won't be fit in time to be of any use to the team down the stretch.

While looking for possible replacements in house at the left fullback position, I stumble up 16yo Jonathan Burton and I'm wowed. The kid's got skills. Look at his profile:

Granted, he's described as "casual" which is further put into evidence by his low determination, but he is already an almost starter for us...

I agree, good not great is how I'd descibe him. I wouldn't build a defense around him like I've done with Shittu, but I'd plug him in there for a game here and there.

I forgot about the "commanding centreback" wanted to mention it. He's still described that way even with the data update...

League Match #12
: we play Everton on their pitch. They're currently in 16th place after finishing in 8th place last season. As a result of their poor league showing so far this season, they have many players that are unhappy, most of them saying they believe that the team is underachieving.

I forgot to save the pre-game lineup for this game. And there's a damn good reason why. I played this game twice. Played it once, won it convincingly 2-0 and then got a "array out of bounds" error that kicked me to the desktop. AAAARGH! Restarted the game and completely forgot to reprint the lineup. Anyway, it's the same lineup as the Chelsea game, except that Protti is in there for the injured Rasiak.

Everton show a pretty innovative 4-2-3-1 formation, look at this, the two teams' formations side by side:

We start the game with a bang when, in the 7th minute, Danny Shittu plays a freakishly long ball ahead of Güiza who's all alone with the keeper. He finds a gap to shoot in low and scores the 1-0 goal.

They get a free kick near our penalty area in the 24th minute. They play it back a bit only to have the second player launch a unstoppable shot to the net. Rossi can't save it and they tie it 1-1.

Teams are tied at the half with shots fairly even: 4(2) for us, 5(1) for them. Igor Protti's lack of match fitness is showing and his condition is down to 78% at the half but I leave him in for now.

I pull him out in the 60th minute, putting Gianfranco Zola in his place.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 1, Everton 1

That's an even more frustrating draw given what I said about the crash to desktop, bah...

We outshot them 11(5) to 9(3) on the game and Generoso Rossi gets his first real downer since coming back, with a rating of 6. Abubakari Yakubu continued his good work with a rating of 8.

Following the game, I hear from Preston. They want Chris Day on loan. They'd pay 100% of his wages and I could recall him if I needed to so I accept.

Dani
has revealed that he no longer feels regular first-team football is beyond him at Q.P.R. The 29yo attacking midfielder commented that I had now convinced him that he has the ability to establish a place in the team if he applies himself sufficiently.

Quite honeslty, Dani has outplayed the other players at the AMC spot, namely Cedric van der Gun, who's still getting used to playing at Loftus Road. I like having Dani in to start games and Zola to kill the end of them...

Some games are played today and after 12 games, we're still sitting in 8th place...

League Match #13: we play Tottenham at Loftus Road. They're currently in 14th and are 5-4 favourites to win this game.

Güiza suffered a damaged should on the 18th and is still 3 days away from being completely healthy. He's at 82%. I see that Kevin Gallen is match fit our our reserves squad with even a few green up arrows so I'll give him the start.

Speaking of green arrows, my boy Jonathan Burton is showing some more green arrowage. Look at his profile just a few days after our latest check:

Open question: Anybody thinks it could be a good idea to try and retrain him so he also has the C side in addition to his L side, in order for him to play centreback as well as fullback?

I mean, he's got the heading, marking, tackling with good aggression and positioning and on top of that at 16, he could possibly be more open to adding a position to his repertoire...

It's a boring first half that ends 0-0. We had quite a few players rated at 5 for a while and Marc Bircham is still at 5 at the half. Igor Protti is replaced by Gianfranco Zola.
In the 49th minute, they play a free kick short forward and the centered ball that follows is promptly headed in for the 0-1 goal.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 0, Tottenham 1

A very frustrating game where we just never took any chances and when we took a shot, we put it miles off target. They outshot us 7(5) to 5(0). Even more is the stoooopid "all out attack" mode in which defenders decide that it's a good idea to exchange the ball between themselves just inside our middle of the field...

Fabrice Fernandes collected his 5th yellow card and will be banned for one match. That could prove costly as our next game is against Manchester United. This means starting either Aaron Brown or Adam Miller on the left wing, eww...

Following the game, Tottenham Hotspur manager Martin Jol told Football365.com that from what he'd seen over the ninety minutes, he believed that Q.P.R. could have serious problems avoiding relegation to the English Championship this season.

I so would want to show it up his arse, but I'm not given the opportunity to respond to his comment. Some Q.P.R. players have reactions to his comments though. Abubakiri Yakubu, Danny Shittu and Gianfranco Zola show me why I like them as team members when they appear determined to prove Jol wrong and help the team avoid demotion. On the other hand, Gino Padula and Fabrice Fernandes are almost ready to throw in the towel as they seem unsure whether the team can avoid the drop.

League Match #14: we play Manchester United on their pitch. Their currently sitting in 1st place of the EPL.

Roy Keane is injured for them and Ruud Van Nistelroy shows some very low condition.

Fabrice Fernandes is suspended for us. Aaron Brown will start in his place. Christopher Eagles is ineligible for this game, given that he is on loan with us from Manchest United.

We go with a 4-2-2-1-1 formation. ManU show a 4-3-3 formation.

We get rocked pretty early. In the 3rd minute, they get a throw-in on our right side. It is headed on to a striker who fires a shot from 25 yards out. That shot is deflected by Hierro and Rossi can't do a thing about it. We have seven players out of eleven who are starting the game rated at 5, ugh...

They add another goal only 7 minutes later when a free kick from just outside our penalty area is headed straight in. Down 0-2, we're not touching the ball...

They add a third goal in the 32nd minute, following a nice team combination.

We're down 0-3 at the half and we're being outclassed by ManU. They outshot us 6(4) to nothing.

While most of the players have got back on their feet following the early bad start, Martin Rowlands still can't shake it off and shows a 5 at the half. Out he goes. Gareth Ainsworth takes his place. Dani's condition has dipped to 70%. I replace him with Gianfranco Zola.

And having Zola in there pays off in the 73rd minute, when he plays a nice ball to Adam Miller, in for Aaron Brown, who flicks it to Marc Bircham who's all alone with the keeper. He doesn't waste his chance to score one for us. Still down 1-3 though.

We're in all out attack mode and we pay for it in the 78th minute when they beat us on a long pass over our line of defender. The striker beats Rossi with a precise shot.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 1, Manchester United 4

This game was the story of two halves: the first one bad, very bad, the second one not so bad. They outshot us 18(9) to 5(1) on the game.

Back to back losses are tough on team morale. Danny Shittu and Martin Rowlands both show very poor morale.

League Match #15: we play Liverpool on their pitch. They're currently in 4th place and are 4-6 favourites to win this game.

Their right fullback, Jamie Carragher, and midfielder Steven Gerrard are both suspended for this game. Attacking midfielder Aliaksandr Hleb is showing some very low condition too. This could be our chance to get back on track.

They show a 4-2-3-1 formation to start the game.

In the 14th minute, they kick a free kick very hard through the wall and the ball is deflected. Rossi jumps to the left only to see the ball enter the net to his right. Down 0-1.

In the 34th minute, Dani plays a corner to the penalty spot. Djibril Cissé pushes one of our strikers. PENALTY!!! Gino Padula scores with a precise strike. Tied 1-1.

The half ends with teams tied 1-1. They're outshooting us but only barely, 9(5) to 7(4). We played a solid half, backed by a Generoso Rossi in great form, rating at 10 so far.

Poor Rossi is holding his own but he can't do anything against this wicked bending shot sent from just inside our penalty area. Down 1-2 after 66 minutes.

We try to put pressure but just can't convert an equalizer.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 1, Liverpool 2

They outshot us 14(8) to 12(7) and possession was fairly even so all in all a good game for us, yet it's a third loss in a row. I guess the guys felt better about this one than the other as there are no guys left with very poor morale anymore.

That loss leaves us dropping in the standings. We're now in 14th place but more important, only 2 points ahead of the drop zone...

Despite our run of losses, the team board and the fans are now both delighted with my management of the club.

Bournemouth offer to loan Aaron Brown. They offer to pay only 80% of his $3800 weekly wage. As a matter of principle, I never want to pay a dime of a player who's not playing on one of our squads. I thus send a counter asking Bournemouth to pay 100% of his wage.

December 4, 2005
Bournemouth withdraw their loan bid for Aaron Brown.

Thanks for the kind words It's always nice to see a new reader come out of the closet

As for FM2006, as SirFozzie pointed out, its release date is set for November 4 (3 days after my birthday ) so we still got about a month and a half of fun to have before it's release, a little less than two months if I pre-order it and have it shipped from England via regular shipping. I think we got time to play a bit, at least a couple seasons

At one point during my hiatus, I was thinking about waiting until early December to order it (so it would arrive for the Holiday break) but now that I'm hooked again, I'm not so sure

believe me, Guarin's been on my radar screen since the moment I started this new career, but heck it's not easy buying new dudes with no transfer funds. They gave me $500k in 2004/05 and $300k in 2005/06. I'm still waiting for Bill Power to tell me to go bring some high profile players to Loftus Road

League Match #16: We play Aston villa at Loftus Road. They are currently in 3rd place so this will be another tough one. They are even favourites to win this game.

Their starting goalkeeper and left winger are both injured.

I try something by starting Marcus Bignot at right fullback and moving Abubakari Yakubu to centreback next to Danny Shittu. I've found him very solid in dispossessing opponents on the side of the field. If he could do that in the middle, it could only reinforce our defensive line.

This game is on TV. Marc Bircham is presented as our key man and it's commented that the tenacious midfielder has the ability to pull the strings from midfield if given opportunity. Their key man is also a midfielder, Thomas Hitzlsperger and they also think he can pull the strings from midfield if given the opprtunity.

The first half goes without a goal being score but it's not really boring. They outshooting us on shots, 7 to 5, but we're doing better with shots on target, leading them 4 to 1 so far.

I pull Kevin Gallen from the game, replacing him with Gianfranco Zola.

Int he 55th minute, Güiza scores his 5th goal of the season on a great combination that starte all the way from our own goal. Generoso Rossi spotted Fabrice Fernandes deep on the left wing and launched him a perfect pass. Fernandes quickly centered the ball to Dani who found Güiza on the move accross their line of defender. Alone with the keeper, Güiza easily converted for the 1-0 goal.

We go to a 4-2-2-1-1 formation as I pull out Güiza, replacing him with DMC Darryll Powell.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 1, Aston Vila 0

A welcomed win! While they outshot us 13 to 9, we were more precise, outshooting them on target, 8 to 3. Generoso Rossi was rated at 8, but it's Dani who stole the show with a rating of 10 earning hime the Man of the Match selection.

Even though is ended the game with an "average" rating of 7, Abubakiri Yakubu was very solid in the middle of our defensive line. For now, he'll stay in that spot. Almost as good, Marcus Bignot did embarass himself on the right of our defense.

We move up to 12th place after 16 games.

Dani
is selected on the EPL Team of the Week.

The draw for the 3rd round of the FA Cup happens today. There are 64 teams left. We will play Reading on January 7, 2006. They're currently in 5th place in the English Championship and we beat them 2-0 twice last season.

League Match #17: we play Fulham on their pitch. They are currently 18th but finished a respectable 9th last season.

They are in a 3 game losing streak but are 6-4 favourites to win this game.

This game is on TV and key mean are Marc Bircham for us and winger Steed Malbranque for Fulham. The prediction mentions that both Fulham and Q.P.R. have been really poor of late and that they can't see this being a thriller by any strecth of the imagination, a draw seeming like the most likely result.

There's plenty of traffic in front of their net in the 35th minute. Fabrice Fernandes's shot is deflected to get to Güiza's feet. He kicks once and pounces on the rebound. This time he gets it by the keeper. Up 1-0.

The half ends on that 1-0 score with us outshooting them 7(4) to 6(2).

Güiza doubles his tally in the 84th minute on a fabulous strike following a great long pass from Fernandes. Up 2-0.

They get one back in the 89th minute, but it was too little too late.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 2, Fulham 1

We outshot them 13(7) to 14(5) on the game. Güiza received a rating of 10 with 2 goals and was named Man of the Match. Abubakari Yakubu and Fabrice Fernandes both received ratings of 9 while Generoso Rossi and Dani received ratings of 8.

We're up to 10th after 17 games and the team board is delighted with that win.

League Match #18: we play Newcastle at Loftus Road. They are in 4th place and are 4-6 favourites to win this game. This will be a tough one.

I try something and move Martin Rowlands up arrow toward the AMC spot.

Newcastle played on the 14th while we played on the 12th. Hopefully two extra days of rest will help us out.

The half ends scoreless but it wasn't a boring half as there was plenty of shots made. They are outshooting us 8(4) to 6(3) at the moment.

It was a very demanding half. Grzegorz Rasiak's condition has dipped to 62%, Martin Rowlands' to 71% and Fabrice Fernandes' to 73%. These are very low numbers after 45 minutes, especially after 5 days of rest. I make no changes for now.

They score only 2 minutes into the hafl on a very nice center from the right. Down 0-1.

As much as we try, we can't get close to their goal to tie the game.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 0, Newcastle 1

They outshot us 10(6) to 8(4) on the game. Danny Shittu received a rating of 8 for the game, our only rating over 7.

Kinda weird but I'm really pissed off at not being able to pull anything better than a 0-1 loss against the #4 team in the EPL. Maybe I'm expecting too much, as it still was a good game from us.

We drop to 12th after 18. Maybe that's seeing us drop in the league table that's got me worked up over losing a game...

League Match #19: we play Southampton on their pitch. They're currently in 14th place with quite a few player that are unhappy, citing the team's underachieving to explain their state of mind (wow that was well said ).

I decide to try something and give the start to promising midfielder Scott Donnelly. I find that Christopher Eagles isn't creating much when he's on the field and I want to keep Martin Rowlands rested a bit and possibly bring him on later in the game.

I give the start to Gianfranco Zola over Dani at the AMC position. He's in a bit of better condition and we're heading into the crazy stretch of the end of December. We'll have games on December 21, 26, 28, and on January 1st.

They are 5-4 favourites to win this game. They come out showing the ever interesting 3-4-1-2 formation (4 middies, 1 AMC and 2 SC).

WOW in the 6th minute, Güiza pulls through for us again! Fabrice Fernandes started the sequence by dribbling the ball through a defender before passing it left to Kevin Gallen who had come out wide. Gallen then centered it nicely, aiming for Güiza's head. His header was spot on! Up 1-0.

The half ends with us ahead 1-0 but they are outshooting us 8(3) to 5(2).

Marc Bircham lets the ball go by him without even making a move and they use the opportunity to tie the game. 1-1.

They have a goal disallowed at 1:08 into injury time after one of their strikers pushed Danny Shittu.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 1, Southampton 1

They outshot us 17(7) to 10(3). I found this game both frustrating yet I'm still happy with the result. Frustrating because we where ahead early on and this is the kind of game that we should have held on. Happy because it's on the road and to not lose in that setting is always not so bad.
We're in 12th place halfway point of the season...

Marcus Bean
says he wants to play first or else he will be looking to leave the club. I'm not so sure there's room for you up with the starting XI Marcus, maybe you should start looking elsewhere.

On the other end of the spectrum, Marcus Bignot is now happy with his role. He said he no longer feels regular first-team football is beyond him at Loftus Road. Good for you Marcus!

Merry Christmas Gareth!!! Gareth Ainsworth resumes training following his physiotherapy sessions.

Kevin Gallen suffered a sprained wrist in training (who trains on Christmas day?!? ) and he will miss one week.

While looking through my reserves squad I see the INJ tag next to Per Frandsen's name and WOAH!!! Apparently he suffered a fractured skull on December 11 and will miss 5 months. What were they practiced with, a big round rock, à la Flintstones?!?

With December 31st coming fast, I take some time to take a look at my players who will be entering their 6 months before the end of their contracts. Here's the contracts situation of every senior player, sorted by expiration date of their contract:

Of all the players with contract expiring on June 30, 2006, I decide to offer contracts only to the following...

Aaron Brown, because he comes in cheap, asking only for $3800 per week. I offer him that.

Dani, because he's proven himself useful this season and he's only asking for $15,500 per week. I offer him $11,500 per week.

Gianfranco Zola, because the 39yo is a great presence in our locker room and on the field. He's also ready to accept a pay cut from $39k to $35.5k. I offer him $32k for a one year extention to June 2007.

Gino Padula, because he's sort of cheap and he does the job he's asked for. Asking for $10k, I offer him $7,600 per week.

Lewis Hamilton, because he comes in very cheap and is not bad depth. He's asking for only $500 per week and that is my offer to him.

Scott Donnelly, because the 18yo is still seen as a promising midfielder and he's improved a lot this season. I'd hate to let him go and see him blossom with another team. He's asking for $1,700 per week and I offer him $1,300 per week.

This is always one of my favorite messages to come up...

especially when Wayne Rooney and Jose Antonio Reyes both came back on the same day.

League Match #20: we play Charlton on their pitch. They are currently in 9th place but they're on a 4 game losing streak.

I don't get this. Dani didn't play one minute in our last game yet his condition is only at 83%. I could have sworn I had paid attention to my any injured players in the last few days, especially with contract renegotiations, and Dani didn't have any INJ tag next to his name... oh well...

I decide to go with a 4-2-2-2 formation. Jody Morris starts and Martin Rowlands is back in.

Only 43 seconds had passed in the game when Grzegorz Rasiak had to leave the game injured. Gianfranco Zola comes but I find this way too early for the old man to have to come in...

In the 40th minute, Martin Rowlands spotted the run of Zola and launched a beautiful 50 yard long pass ahead of him. In the clear, Zola calmly placed the ball into the net for the go ahead goal.

But damn, we let them get right back in the game, only 3 minutes later, them too on a long pass, this time a 55 yards one, followed by a shot from 25 yards out. Tied 1-1.

The half ends with teams in a 1-1 gridlock. We're outshooting them 5(3) to 4(2) but we're losing possession slightly.

Gah, another long pass leads to their second goal. Down 1-2.

I switch formation to our usual 4-1-2-1-2 formation in the 69th minute. Jody Morris goes to the AMC spot and the move pays off quickly as Güiza passes the ball back to Rowlands who sends a low cross to the far post to Aaron Brown, in for Fabrice Fernandes. Brown scores the equalizer, 2-2.

In the 76th minute, we don't clear the ball from our area following a corner kick. Abubakiri Yakubu is especially having a tough game. They score as we seem to be willing to give them the game. Down 2-3.

AAAARRRGGGG!!!! As I see the "waiting" button that has replaced my team tactic button, they go around Yakubu again. I WANT TO PULL HIM OUT!!! Too late, they score. Down 2-4 after 82 minutes.

I pulled Yakubu following their 4th goal, but the defensive meltdown continues and they scored a 5th goal in the 85th minute.

A disastrous last 15 minutes...

Final Score: Q.P.R. 2, Charlton 5

We outshot them 13(8) to 12(7) so no reason for us to drop the ball like that. Worst, we play in only 2 days and I always hate to go into that second in two days with a loss... We drop to 14th after 20 games.

Rasiak comes out of the game unscathed and good to go for next game since he got to rest for most of the game.

Gino Padula
agrees to a new deal that will keep him at the club until June 30, 2007.

Gianfranco Zola has signalled his intentions to see out his career with Q.P.R. by signing a contract until June 30, 2007. Does that mean he's planning to retire after that last contract? At 40, who would blame him...

Scott Donnelly has agreed to a new deal that will keep him with the club until June 30, 2008.

In the WTF news of the day, Dani is complaining about not being a part of the first-team at Q.P.R. Dani has never been the most patient of individuals at Q.P.R. and now seems tired of manager Steve Gougeon persistently overlooking him. SAY WHAT!!! I sit you out for one game, then you show up out of shape after a wild night of drinking (or so I assume) so I have to sit you out a second game and NOW YOU ARE PISSED!!!

The 29yo midfielder told a national newspaper that he was disillusioned by his manager's selection policy and wants to be guaranteed regular first team football. Dani also added that he would look to leave Loftus Road if he was unable to play every week. Wow, talk about a short fuse...

In part 2 of the WTF news of the day, Dani agrees on a new deal that will keep him at the club until June 2008. He's now happy with my selection policy. Woah, suffering from a bit of bipolarity here Dani?

League Match #21: we play Middlesbrough at Loftus Road. They're currently in 4th place nad they beat us 0-3 on their pitch earlier in the season.

Looking at their fixtures list, I'm impressed by their last three games, three wins, three shutouts. 2-0 against Leicester, 3-0 against Charlton, and 3-0 againt Crystal Palace. Woah!

Two games in two days is R-O-U-G-H !!! The good news is that they also played only two days ago.

I give the start to promising middie Scott Donnelly on the right wing and I don't even ask Martin Rowlands to suit up as it's against my policy to suit a guy who's under 90% going into a game, especially on the wing. Fabrice Fernandes is really borderline at 90%.

Donnelly has to leave the game injured in the 27th minute. Dang, our guy who's in the best condition is leaving early!!! Christopher Eagles comes in his place.

Grzegorz Rasiak plays a nice ball ahead of Güiza in the 30th minute. All alone with the keeper, Güiza doesn't miss his chance. He was rated at 5 until that surge to the net. He's now at 7. Up 1-0.

GRRRRRR!!! Feels like dejà vu as we let them do what they want in the very next minute and they knock in the equalizer. Tied 1-1 after 31 minutes.

The half ends with teams tied 1-1. Shots are 5(1) for us, 6(4) for them. Our condition isn't too bad overall...

The second half goes without any goal, despite both teams getting plenty of chances. Rasiak goes down during injury time (ironically) and we finish the last minute with 10 men.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 1, Middlesbrough 1

They outshot us by one, 13(7) to 12(6), and never gave us a shot at winning it late in the game. Either that, or my guys were too stupid and kept moving the ball around without even trying to go for the goal...

OUCH! You've seen the last of Grzegorz Rasiak for a long while my friends. The striker has suffere a broken thigh bone and he will miss 7 months. That's a heck of a hit...

On top of that, Scott Donnelly suffered a back strain and will miss 3 weeks.

This feels like the start of a major case of terpkristinitis and we could be in big trouble if we suffer a few more injuries. We don't have as much depth as I'd like to... We could start playing some 4-2-2-2-1 with 2 AMCs and 1 SC if we can't suit up enough quality strikers...

Despite us offering exactly what he was asking for, Aaron Brown has rejected our contract offer. Looks like his demands have increased to $6,200 per week. Bah he's not worth that, I break off talks.

December 31, 2005
Today is the day that many players see their contracts become unportected. I would usually start hunting possible Bosman type transfers, but I just can't commit to many new players with big salaries since I can't be real sure we'll even stick around in the Premiership.

January 1st, 2006
This is the start of the transfer window.

The board, and fans, are delighted with my work as manager of the club. Well, good to know, given our last few games...

League Match #22: we play Liverpool at Loftus Road. They are currently in 3rd place and are 4-6 favourites to win this game.

As if they need any help, Fabrice Fernandes suffered a chest injury on December 30 and is 3 days from being completely healthy. His condition is at 82% now so I start Aaron Brown but I still keep Fernandes on our bench.

Abubakiri Yakubu and Generoso Rossi's morale are both at vry poor.

Liverpool show a 4-2-3-1 formation.

We're holding our own early on, but we let them take a 0-1 lead when a striker gets alone with Generoso Rossi. Too eager, Rossi rushes out but the striker chips the ball just over his head.

The half ends with them leading the game 0-1. We're actually outshooting them 55(1) to 3(1)...

Gianfranco Zola is not having a good game, rating at 5 so far and Martin Rowlands is also struggling. Rated at 6 now, he was at 5 for most of the half. I put Fabrice Fernandes in for Aaron Brown.

We try, but can't buy a goal in the second half.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 0, Liverpool 1

So close, yet so far, another shitty little loss. We outshot them 9(1) to 6(2) on the game.

We drop to 14th with the loss, now only 4 points from the drop zone...

has revealed that not being part of the first team at Loftus Road is starting to unsettle him. I don't have much to tell him. For now there's not much room for you...

FA Cup round 3: we play Reading on their pitch. They're currently 3rd in the Championship and we are evens favourites to win this game.

We go with a 4-1-2-2-1 formation and I'm not taking anything for granted. Overall team morale is very low as exhibited by 6 players with very poor morale right now.

In the 28th minute, we just can't clear the ball from our penalty area following a corner kick and they take advantage of it. Down 0-1.

AAAARRRGG!!! Dani is called for a push on another incoming corner kick. PENALTY!!!! They score to make it 0-2.

That's a ugly half that ends with us down 0-2. They're outshooting us outrageously 5(2) to 1(1)

Oh crap! A free kick is deflecte through the wall in the 60th minute and we go down 0-3. Even though he's got no reason of feeling down, Generoso Rossi is rated at 5 after that goal.

Güiza goes down inn the 77th minute and has to leave the field. We finish with 10 men on the field, just frigging great.

Final Score: Q.P.R. 0, Reading 3

Another combination of ugly play and lack of luck leads to this early exit from the FA Cup. bah...

Güiza suffered a bruised thigh and will miss 5 days.

Surprisingly, we lost 0-3 yet only Rossi remains with a very poor morale.

We need to regroup and fast, if we don't want to spirale into relegation territory...

With about 3 weeks to go in the transfer window, I decide to go to the team board and ask them for some extra transfer budget as I figure they could help with some of the $24M we still have left in the bank.

The bastages feel that I already have adequate resources with which to do my job.

SAY... HAHA... THAT... HAHA... AGAIN!!! I was given a frigging $300k budget to bring this team to respectability in the EPL while there are $24M sleeping in the team's bank account and you think I have adequate resources?!?
