NHL 13 - Let's Go Blues!

No NHL this season is killing me, so after seeing a decent roster update by EA, it's time to kick off the 2012-13 season.

Settings

NHL 13 (X360)

Default All Star, 8 minute periods, all 3 penalty sliders turned up, fighting turned up and the attribute effect slider halfway (3). Latest tuner and title update patch.

Rosters are from the 10/24 update.

Next Up: 2012-13 St. Louis Blues

I sim the preseason and we are at 100% going into the season.

Our NHL team looks solid this year, but we lack depth in the minors. The owner wants us to win 35 games, so as long as we stay relatively healthy, that shouldn't be an issue.

We open the 2012-13 season on the road against Colorado. Halak will start in goal and C Scott Nichol and F Chris Porter will be scratched.

Colorado strikes first and goes up 1-0 after one period. Andy McDonald scores the first Blues goal of the season and we head into the third period tied. David Perron would add his first goal of the season late in the third and the Blues would hold on for the 2-1 win. Halak was superb in goal, saving 18 of 19 shots.

Brian Elliott will get the nod in goal tonight.

Blues come out and pick up where they left off, scoring two goals in the first period. McDonald gets his 2nd goal of the season and then Steen adds his first of the season on the power play. Second period is all Nashville as they score twice to tie the game at 2 heading into the third period. The third period was tight, but Nashville would score with 1:48 left on the clock and then would add an empty netter to win their first game of the season, 4-2.

Yes sir and I'll have a bit more stats like faceoffs W/L and TOA from here on out. The first two games I played last night and then decided to do a dynasty.

Halak back in goal, no other changes.

Detroit comes out and man handles us through the first and second periods, out shooting and out hitting us by a wide margin. Up 2-0 in the third, we manage to come out and finally start playing hockey, but come up short.. too little, too late.

No changes in the lineup for tonight.

We dominate Minnesota right out of the gate and cling on to a 1-0 lead after one period on a slap shot by Kris Russell. Zach Parise scores on a shorthanded breakaway to tie the game in the second period. Minnesota would take the lead 2-1 late in the third period, but with 53.8 seconds left, Alex Pietrangelo ties the game on a slap shot. We head to OT where Zach Parise would take charge and net the game winner. Minnesota was out shot 36-16, but Backstrom was an iron curtain in goal.

Halak back in goal and Ryan Reaves back at forward, replacing Scott Nichol.

A tight game as the Blues were out shot, 11-2 after one period. Colorado would score late and take a 1-0 lead after one. The Blues would get their act together in the second period and tie the game at 1 on a goal by David Perron. The third period was frantic, but would head into OT. Alex Steen would put the game away in the OT and the Blues would win their first home game, 2-1. The Blues have won two games, both of them coming against Colorado.

Lineup changes: C Scott Nichol will take Ryan Reaves place, F Chris Porter is waived, optioned to Peoria. F Jonathan Cheechoo has been playing on St. Louis's AHL affiliate team and has scored 2 goals/7 assists for a total of 9 points and the Blues have offered him a 1 year contract.

St. Louis - The Kings score two goals in the first period, but the Blues would come back in the second period, scoring two goals to tie the game at two after two.The game would head into overtime and Dustin Brown would add his second goal of the game to send the Blues fans home unhappy. The Blues are now 2-4-2 on the season and can't seem to put a team away.

Los Angeles - The Blues come out and absolutely take it to the Kings and take a 3-0 lead after two periods. The Kings regroup and come all the back to tie the game at 3 heading into OT. Once again the Kings would win in OT, 4-3 and the Blues coaching staff would be left stunned.

St. Louis - The Blues and Stars play tight checking hockey in the first two periods and both goalies are stellar, after two periods no score by either team. The Blues would strike first in the third period on a goal by David Perron. The Kings would strike back to tie the game at 1. With less than a minute to go, David Perron would light the lamp again and the Blues finally pick up a much needed two points.

Xbox, gameplay is great thanks to the new skating engine. NHL 12 was really boring, so I'm glad I'm back to wanting to play hockey on the console again.

Changes: Moved the poke check effectiveness -1 for both CPU and HUM as too many pucks are stolen off a player's stick.

Line up changes: Blues come to terms with LW Jonathan Cheechoo, signing him to a 1 year deal worth $850K. LW Scott Nichol will be scratched and Cheechoo will take his place in the lineup.

St. Louis - The Blues could not figure out Steve Mason and Halak was pulled in the third period after allowing 4 goals as the Blue Jackets would pummel the Blues 4-0. Johnson and Brassard would each add a goal and an assist and Mason would save all 24 shots by the Blues.

Halak will start in goal.

Minnesota - The Blues played perfect hockey in the first period, scoring two goals and taking a 2-0 into intermission. The Blues would go up 3-0 early in the second, but Minnesota would come back with a goal of their own to make it 3-1. Blues would strike again and take a 4-1 lead, but Minnesota would score with seconds remaining to make the score 4-2 after two. St. Louis - Blues pick up right where they left off, scoring first and would hold off Nashville after one period, 1-0. Nashville would score twice in the second period, the go ahead goal on a power play. The third period was back and forth, but the Blues would tie the game on a power play of their own. The game would end tied 2-2 after regulation. Andy McDonald would score on the shootout to give the Blues another win!

Blues falter at home again

St. Louis - The Blues would jump out on top 1-0, but the Islanders would strike back. A late goal in the first period would have the Blues up 2-1 after one. Islanders goaltender, Evgeni Nabokov would shutout the Blues in periods two and three, however, and Brad Boyes would assist on 3 out of the 4 Islanders goals. Final would be New York 4, St. Louis 2.

Blues score 6, win in OT

St. Louis - If you like goal scoring, this was your game. St. Louis would jump out to a 2-1 lead after one period. Washington would score 4 goals in the second period and would lead 5-3 after two. Blues would score early to get within one goal and then Alex Pietrangelo would score on the power play to send the game into overtime. TJ Oshie would put in a rebound off a Backes shot early in the overtime to give the blues the 6-5 win at home.

Blues dominate, lose David Perron

St. Louis - Blues score 4 goals in the first period and would add another in the 3rd period, but their win would come at a cost. In the 2nd period, David Perron would hit knee on knee with a Blue Jackets defenseman and leave the game with an MCL sprain. David is out for 3 weeks. David has scored 8 goals and has 7 assists for a total of 15 points, which is 2nd only to David Backes who has 16 points. Blues head coach said everyone would move up and tough guy Ryan Reaves would play in David's absence. Brian Elliott was stellar in goal, stopping 27 of 28 shots.

Blues penalties cost them game

St. Louis - Both goalies were on top of their game, but the Blues took 5 penalties and Ottawa would stay out of the penalty box. Both teams would score in the third period, Ottawa's came on a power play and the Blues David Backes would add a goal just 4 minutes later to send the game into overtime. Neither team could score and the Blues would lose in the shootout.

Blues hold on for 10th win of the season

St. Louis - Blues would strike first, Andy McDonald would take a pass from TJ Oshie and with just 2:12 gone in the first period, the Blues would take a 1-0 lead. Calgary would strike back to tie the game, but tough guy Ryan Reaves would score his first goal of the season on a slap shot high over the shoulder of Kiprusoff to give the Blues a 2-1 lead. From there, it was all goaltender Brian Elliott as he would save 22 out of 23 Calgary shots on goal and the Blues would end the homestand at 3-2-1.

St. Louis - After a scoreless first period, the Blues would strike first to take the lead. Pittsburgh would strike back, but moments later the Blues would once again take the lead. Sidney Crosby would then take over, scoring his league leading 26th and 27th goals of the season to give the Penguins the 3-2 win.

St. Louis - The Blues would take the early lead on a goal by David Backes, but the Rangers would tie it at one. Blues would score again and take a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. The Rangers would strike back to tie the game after two. Andy McDonald would bury a one timer past Lundqvist to put the Blues up for good and on to their 11th win of the season.

Blues win, lose Oshie

St. Louis - The Blues would strike first and take a 1-0 lead after one period. Chicago would tie the game at 1 and we would head to the third period tied. Chicago would take a 2-1 on another goal by Toews, his 2nd of the game. TJ Oshie would get checked from behind and would leave the game. That incident sparked the Blues who would score two goals to come back and beat Chicago, 3-2.

Oshie was diagnosed with a concussion and is expected out 3 weeks. The Blues have two of their top forwards out due to injury. GM MizzouRah would call up F Brett Sterling to take Oshie's place. Sterling has 9 goals, 6 assists and 15 points for Peoria this season.

Minnesota goes Wild in St. Louis

St. Louis - Minnesota would come right out and take it to the Blues, scoring twice and after one period, lead 2-0. The Blues would come back in the second period and score two of their own to tie the game 2-2. Minnesota would add their 3rd goal and go up 3-2 after two. The third period would belong to the Wild, scoring two more goals and they once again dominate the Blues. The Blues are without David Perron and TJ Oshie and it showed in the 3rd period when they couldn't generate any offense against Minnesota.

David Perron returns to the lineup, Brett Sterling sent back down to the AHL. In 3 games with the Blues, Brett had 0G, 0A, and a -1 +/- rating.

Perron returns, scores winner in shootout

St. Louis - Phoenix would jump out to a 2-0 lead and the Blues couldn't get one past Mike Smith until the 3rd period when Chris Stewart would score his 1st and 2nd goals of the season to tie the game at 2 and send the game into overtime. Phoenix too much, upend Blues 4-3

Phoenix - Blues and Phoenix end up in a 2-2 tie after one period. Blues forward Chris Stewart scores both goals, his 2nd game in a row with two goals and his 3rd and 4th on the season. With TJ Oshie out, Stewart has been excelling on the first line with Backes and Perron. Phoenix would score in the 3rd period and then add an empty netter to take a 4-2 lead. The Blues would put one past Mike Smith with 10 seconds left to bring them within one goal, but the game would end there.

Blues sign FA forward Patrick O'Sullivan

St. Louis - Blues announced today the signing of AHL FA forward Patrick O'Sullivan to a 1-year $860K deal. O'Sullivan scored 10 goals, 20 assists, for a total of 30 points and was a +1 on the season in the AHL.

Blues GM told reporters that O'Sullivan would probably take Ryan Reaves spot in the lineup against the Dallas Stars.
