QB Austin Kendall transferring from OU to WVU. He's eligible immediately and has 2 years left.

Lupoli exits as Bama DC, takes job with ... the Cleveland Browns.

I felt like a change might be made in that job anyway so I'm not sure how disappointed anyone around the program will really be.

Ah, the beauty of sports. Where most people can say "that's as close to a 50/50 call as you can get", and some are still willing to argue it was obvious. I'm in the camp that thinks the Clemson KOR probably was touching it while OOB, but there was nothing definitive to overturn the call on the field.

That was nice of Jalen Hurts to announce his decision before West Virginia started classes, so that Oklahoma would stop being assholes and allow the transfer.

Wow...it was OOB 3 ways.
1- The returner touched it while OOB.
2- The nose of the ball touched OOB and was clearly shown on video as such
3- The ND player who recovered the ball went OOB without being forced and was the first player to touch the ball.

Now if you want to talk the catch-drop-fumble-recover/incomplete pass call...that one Clemson might have got a gift on.

a) re-organize his assistant coaches
b) start playing "the game" the Miami way

Allegedly this was told to Richt in an email, in print, by UM employees. As the story goes - He picked up the phone called his boss and said "I dont work that way. If that is an order I'm leaving, as you are a disrespect to my University. BTW I will announce my retirement, keep your damn money, you will be complimentary and sad that Im leaving publicly or this email will find its way to every sports reporter I know"

If true...sure explains a lot of weird questions...

I was really rooting for Richt and wanted him to succeed, but he was 7-10 over his last 17 and the offense was pathetic. I don't get what about that demand letter would be embarrassing to the university. It was clear that Richt needed to make major changes to his assistant coaches. If that letter caused Richt to resign (and thus saved the university millions of dollars), then great job by whoever sent it.

I didn't know that was a rule on fumble recoveries. Is that just NCAA or NFL as well?

I'm pretty sure the 2nd part was a reference to paying players/recruits. (or at least that's how I read it)

I think the more damning implication is that someone basically told him he needed to get/let boosters pay recruits and players.

But hey, they got Tate Martell coming in. That'll solve the QB problems & lead to less drama

...and/or making sure recruiting visits came with more "perks." My immediate thought was that the "Georgia Girls" program was *significantly* tamed in the Richt era, even including a dress code that was much more conservative than in days before. (There was no known dress code, but they were clearly encouraged to dress quite revealingly before the Richt era.) I'd assume that Miami's recruiting escort team was more risque than that of UGA pre-Richt, and got toned down as well.

Fair enough. It wouldn't surprise me at all for Miami boosters to do that, but Richt's problems were in coaching, not recruiting. They only had trouble in this recent recruiting class when Miami started playing like crap.

Now they just make sure the prospects get invited to a party or two & make it known that they're recruits. Same outcomes, but I guess pimping is more respectable than hooking.

*not a shot at UGA, I doubt there's very many places where it doesn't work the same way

Well this comes as a bit of surprise because he had just completed a successful return from health issues to complete a full season as Coastal Carolina's head football coach. But head coach Joe Moglia has stepped down, and they have already named a replacement. I have to think there is more to the story to come in the days ahead:

CCU Head Coach Joe Moglia steps down

There is a clickbait crap fest article that was written yesterday that "black players skipped the visit because of Trump"

I cant speak for every player. I'm sure some didnt go for political reasons.

But Roughly 70% of the team went. A couple players were injured or had surgeries planned. I know of 4 of the seniors who already had scheduled to report to their pre draft training camp and couldnt go. Etc.

I do know it was mentioned in a team meeting that the visit was optional. Everyone was free to go or not go and it would have no impact on anyone's status if they chose not to go.

I thought UNC should have been death penaltied but their failure to do so doesn't make Mizzou spotless here.

It sort of does when the NCAA specifically mentions UNC in their ruling knowing how hypocritical there are with this ridiculous penalty. The players involved were all already suspended, the tutor admitted she acted on her own, Mizzou brought it to their attention not a reporter, and so they punish a group of kids that had nothing to do with it.

So if I kill a guy and then holler "yo, I killed him" then I'm clean?

Good to know.

When they have voluntarily accepted that responsibility.
If they don't like it, there are means by which to depart.

Don't like getting nailed? Then recruit higher caliber individuals.

From what I understand, according to the tutor (and they may be falling on the sword, who knows ) but they were asked to review/proofread papers. They then re-wrote the papers, and submitted them. A player saw their graded paper, noticed it wasnt what he wrote and brought it to the study hall coach's attention. The AD investigated the tutor, found a series of violations, self reported.

Here's the thing:
Quote:
“While Missouri promptly self-reported the violations, it did not promptly self-detect them. The offending conduct continued for one year,” the panel wrote, adding that if the tutor had not admitted her violations, Missouri would not have been aware of them.

Let's go with the notion that this was all on the tutor, the lack of supervision for a tutor who worked in the athletic department's "total person" program is a pretty bad idea.

Or we can go with her version of events, which centers around some pretty familiar coded phrases like "do whatever it takes" and "If he doesn’t pass, he can’t play". If you believe that version then they're lucky they weren't hammered harder.

Either way, there's a failure to control the situation that rests on the athletic department.

We will see.

I overlapped X a little bit. I was back working there following my first sell out, during his playing days. He was always a hard working dude but had a lot of growing up to do...but he was maybe 19 at the time. Never really realized his playing potential because of those issues.

Ive had zero interaction with him beyond a cursory hello since he returned. But a friend I trust has raved about his maturity and his 180...grinder, film junkie...and players love him..hes a goofball in a good way.

I think he'll be a beast on the recruiting trail.

One of the top probably ... 3? moments of my life today watching my son sign his NLI. Ranks behind both kid births, but ahead of my wedding. yeah I think thats the order.

In the end he signed with a D2 school and turned down scholarship offers from multiple D1 schools, including 3 P5 offers. He said he felt at home there and wanted to be a big fish in a small pond. They've talked about him coming in and starting as a true freshman.

I would have made a different choice personally, but I support him 100%. Knowing him I think it is probably the right choice for him.

Funny story, about that.
My son is a bit of a different kid. He's a country boy. Fun for him is fishing, hunting or hiking. He has no interest in alcohol, drugs...just doesnt appeal to him. Which I am glad for as a parent.

On his CC visit, when he was to spend the evening with the players and get to know the team. They took him and the other recruits to a strip club and bought them beer. He wasn't interested. He ended up driving his 3 hosts and 2 other recruits home as they all got trashed.

He decided to leave before meeting with Moog the next morning.

That was one of 2 stories of him turning into a DD for his host.

Hmmmm not a good look for Coastal there. They have (or maybe had since the head coach stepped down) a Be A Man program for the football program where they have weekly meetings/programs/etc where they try to teach them to be caring/responsible adults-not working too well I guess.

I was not interested in those things either when I went to college-took me a while to find my fellow D&D playing nerds Good on him for knowing what he wants out of a college.

Thanks for the info on Dye and congrats to your son. We're going through the baseball process now and it's a nightmare (although that probably has more to do with how baseball scholarships work). I think it takes a lot of maturity to pass on D1 offers to go with what you feel is the right fit. Major props to him.

Congrats to him, and to the whole family.

Awesome.

"I would have made a different choice personally, but I support him 100%" is probably one of the best things a parent can say and do for their kid in any context.

Sounds like you'll be in my wife's family's neck of the woods often this fall.

Congrats!
