Cool Thing Happened At My Job Tonight...
...my second job that is, as a server at TGIF. Longtime Angel Bobby Grich came in with a couple friends after golfing and sat in my section. They stayed right up through the Suns-Spurs game, and were talking sports the whole time.
As an Angels fan who grew up watching him play, it was a blast being his waiter. None of us (lots of Angels fans at work) let on we knew it was Grich, because we didn't want to be rude. But since he and his buddies stuck around to watch the game a good while (they rooted for the Suns, BTW), and it was dead, a few of us were pretty much hanging with them and watching the game. I kept joking around that I was going to go over to him and say he was the best Angels 2B-man ever, finishing with, "...you were soooooooo much better than Johnnie Ray!" (Inside joke; Angels have had total shite at 2B in their history outside of Grich and AK). Anyway, it was pretty neat. Speaking of Angels' 2B, I have also taken care of AK at the restaurant a few times (before he left for St. Louis). Must be a 2B thing. |

Have the Angels ever had any decent middle infielders besides Grich?
Were Doug DiCences or Freddy Lynn with him? |

One of the highlights of my Little League career was receiving a trophy from Rod Carew.

Depends. Define "decent". Most Angels fans will tell you Disar and AK are two of the more oolid, consistent players around, but no one would put them on a "best of" list. We had Fregosi 30-plus years ago. Mostly forgettable, though. That's why it's weird to have uber-prospects like Wood and Kendrick now at positions we usually struggle at. As for Grich's companions, if they were, Fred got a lot shorter and 20 years younger, while Doug changed his name to "Monte", according to his credit card. |

Adam Kennedy says "Screw you guys" if that's how you feel about his contributions in the 2002 playoffs.
