Dunk City moves on. They were fun to watch in Arlington until the Gators locked down and wiped them out.

Week 10 Schedule:

Illinois @ Tennessee
Siena @ Houston
NC A&T @ C. Michigan

Well SI, you got your wish, a logjam for second place. We know that Illinois has clinched the group title. Tennessee, Houston, and Siena all have a chance to move on. All need to win to have a chance at the wildcard if it would come to that. Unfortunately, Siena and Houston play each other, so one of those teams will be eliminated right away. So the Siena-Houston winner will be 6-4 and have a chance to advance, the loser will be eliminated. Tennessee needs another win against Illinois. Gonna be interesting!

Week 10

Tennessee- 65, Illinois- 56
Houston- 67, Siena- 56
C. Michigan- 70, NC A&T- 54

Final Group 40 standings:

#1- Illinois 7-3 (+99)
#2- Tennessee 6-4 (+20)
#3- Houston 6-4 (+28)
#4- Siena 5-5 (-53)
#5- NC A&T 4-6 (-66)
#6- C. Michigan 2-8 (-28)

So Illinois wins the group, and the 7-3 record leaves a lot to be desired. One saving point is that they have one of, if not, the highest point differentials of the 7-3 group winners. Tennessee gets second place by virtue of their sweep over Houston. They have one of the lowest point differentials of the 6-4 group runner-ups, so they'll be a pretty low seed, probably between 90 and 100. Houston gets third place, and their point differential is enough to bump them up a couple spots in the wildcard chase, so they are safe for now. Unfortunately, this does eliminate Penn St., but what a run they had, holding onto that final wildcard spot for several groups. Next on the chopping block is St. Louis, who if you remember was ranked 15th in the tournament. Here are the updated wildcard standings:

N.C. Central 7-3 (+63)

Sacred Heart 6-3 (+16)

Radford 0-9 (-101)

Week 10 Schedule:

Mid. Tenn. @ E. Kentucky
Radford @ UC Irvine
Nevada @ Sacred Heart

E. Kentucky must beat Mid. Tenn. to even have a chance to advance, and if Mid. Tenn. wins they clinch the group. The Nevada-Sacred Heart battle is most likely for second place, although it could be for first place if Mid. Tenn. loses. Lots of tiebreakers scenarios possible. If Mid. Tenn. loses, they'll be tied for first with the Nevada-Sacred Heart winner. The Nevada-Sacred Heart loser will be tied for third with E. Kentucky IF E. Kentucky beats Mid. Tenn. We do know for a fact that Mid. Tenn. and the Nevada-Sacred Heart winner will be moving on to the round of 128 for sure.

Week 10

Mid. Tenn.- 74, E. Kentucky- 61
UC Irvine- 68, Radford- 54
Sacred Heart- 70, Nevada- 68

Final Group 41 standings:

#1- Mid. Tenn. 8-2 (+91)
#2- Sacred Heart 7-3 (+18)
#3- Nevada 6-4 (+26)
#4- E. Kentucky 5-5 (-22)
#5- UC Irvine 4-6 (+2)
#6- Radford 0-10 (-115)

Mid. Tenn. wins the group and has one of, but not the best point differentials of 8-2 group winners. The bad loss to Nevada in Week 8 definitely cost them a few seeds. Sacred Heart takes second and is yet another (and there have been a few!) unexpected and surprising advancements to the round of 128. Nevada takes third and is in position for a wildcard berth at the moment. Their point differential gets them in the hunt. Unfortunately, 15th ranked St. Louis will watch the rest of this tournament from home, as they are officially eliminated from wildcard contention. Stanford now becomes the next team on the chopping block. Here is a look at the updated wildcard standings:

Arizona St. 8-1 (+77)
Nicholls St. 5-4 (-12)

Week 10 Schedule:

Baylor @ Arizona St.
Nicholls St. @ S. Alabama
Oakland @ E. Illinois

It's pretty simple, the Baylor-Arizona St. winner will win the group, and the loser will finish runner-up. Nicholls St. has a slight chance to be a Cinderella wildcard, but they must win and win big. If Nicholls St. loses and Oakland wins, we will have a tiebreaker for third, but it won't matter as both teams will be 5-5 and will not be able to advance.

Week 10

Arizona St.- 83, Baylor- 73
S. Alabama- 69, Nicholls St.- 60
E. Illinois- 78, Oakland- 69

Final Group 42 standings:

#1- Arizona St. 9-1 (+87)
#2- Baylor 8-2 (+53)
#3- Nicholls St. 5-5 (-21)
#4- Oakland 4-6 (-19)
#5- S. Alabama 3-7 (-44)
#6- E. Illinois 1-9 (-56)

So Arizona St. wins the group, and a 9-1 group record ought to be enough to get them a top 25, maybe top 30 seed. Baylor had the really bad loss to Nicholls St. that might have kept them from winning the group, instead they finish second, with not a great point differential. Nicholls St. was the Cinderella in this group, finishing third, unfortunately 5-5 isn't good enough to compete for a wildcard, so their run ends, and Stanford stays alive. Here is a look at the updated wildcard standings:

N.C. Central 7-3 (+63)
Jacksonville St. 7-3 (+55)

Glad to see Illini win group. Only consolation to losing twice to Tennesse is that it isn't a Bruce Pearl coaches Volunteer team. Oh, and Poli isn't reading the thread so I don't have to hear about it from him

Villanova 7-2 (+52)
Clemson 4-5 (-7)
Lafayette 4-5 (-18)
Bethune-Cookman 2-7 (-52)
SIU Edwardsville 2-7 (-74)

Week 10 Schedule:

Akron @ Villanova
SIU Edwardsville @ Lafayette
Clemson @ Bethune-Cookman

Akron and Villanova will be the only 2 teams advancing from this group. If Akron beats Villanova, they win the group outright. If Villanova wins, it'll force a tiebreaker for the group title. Based on point differential, the only hope Villanova has of winning the group is to beat Akron by about 30. Even if Clemson and/or Lafayette win, that would put either one at just 5-5, not good enough.

Week 10

Akron- 76, Villanova- 73 (OT)
Lafayette- 81, SIU Edwardsville- 59
Bethune-Cookman- 50, Clemson- 48

Final Group 43 standings:

#1- Akron 9-1 (+102)
#2- Villanova 7-3 (+49)
#3- Lafayette 5-5 (+4)
#4- Clemson 4-6 (-9)
#5- Bethune-Cookman 3-7 (-50)
#6- SIU Edwardsville 2-8 (-96)

So Akron wins the group and with that 9-1 record should be in line for a top 20, maybe top 25 seed. Villanova struggled down the stretch, losing their last 2, and will not be one of the better seeds as far as group runner-ups go. Lafayette gets third place, but as was already mentioned, is nowhere near being in contention for a wildcard. This means Stanford holds onto that final spot for now. Here are the updated wildcard standings:

Nice win for the Zips. That's going to be a pretty good seed for them

We seem to have a recurring theme over the last few groups, as the Santa Clara-Bucknell winner will win the group, and the loser will take second place. No other team has even a remote chance to advance.

Week 10

Bucknell- 68, Santa Clara- 59
Long Island- 74, E. Washington- 67
Washington St.- 78, Chattanooga- 71

Final Group 44 standings:

#1- Bucknell 9-1 (+103)
#2- Santa Clara 8-2 (+110)
#3- E. Washington 4-6 (-23)
#4- Washington St. 4-6 (-18)
#5- Chattanooga 3-7 (-108)
#6- Long Island 2-8 (-64)

Bucknell wins the group and will be at least 1 seed higher than Akron, as they have a point differential of 1 measly point higher than Akron. Needless to say, they are in a good position. As is Santa Clara, who got the benefit of a couple blowout wins. There is only 1 team of the group runner-ups that has a higher point differential than Santa Clara, and that is Louisville (remember them from group 1.. about 4 months ago?) But.. Santa Clara has an 8-2 record in group play, and Louisville was 7-3 in group play. All that means is that if things hold true to form, Santa Clara could be looking at the #59 seed. E. Washington gets third place as they swept Washington St., but they are the worst third place team, nowhere near a wildcard berth. Here are the updated wildcard standings:

N.C. Central 7-3 (+63)

Week 10 Schedule:

Southern Miss @ Alabama
S. Utah @ St. Bonaventure
Quinnipiac @ Maine

So this group is a mess, a complete mess. Southern Miss clinched the group a long time ago, while St. Bonaventure, Quinnipiac, and Alabama are battling for what will possibly be the worst seed as far as group runner-ups go. Since none of them play each other, it's possible we could have a 3 way tie for second if they all win, or all lose. We could also have a 2 way tie if 1 team loses and 2 teams win. If 1 team wins and the other 2 lose, the team that wins gets second place in the group. One other thing we know.. no wildcard for this group.

Week 10

Southern Miss- 61, Alabama- 54
St. Bonaventure- 67, S. Utah- 52
Maine- 66, Quinnipiac- 63

Final Group 45 standings:

#1- Southern Miss 10-0 (+115)
#2- St. Bonaventure 5-5 (+7)
#3- Quinnipiac 4-6 (-7)
#4- Alabama 4-6 (-27)
#5- Maine 4-6 (-43)
#6- S. Utah 3-7 (-45)

Southern Miss wins the group and is 1 of 10 teams that have made it through group play undefeated. Of those 10 teams, Southern Miss ranks in the middle of those as far as point differential. I'd say a top 10 seed is definitely in the question. St. Bonaventure wins the group and will most likely be rewarded with a seed between 110 and 116, as they are one of just a few 5-5 group runner-ups to this point. The tiebreaker for third came down to point differential. Quinnipiac got third place but is nowhere near a wildcard berth. So Stanford stays alive for another group. Here are the updated wildcard standings:

New Hampshire 3-6 (-59)

Week 10 Schedule:

Minnesota @ Denver
New Hampshire @ Drake
Youngstown St. @ Campbell

Minnesota has clinched group 46. If Denver wins or if Youngstown St. loses, then Denver gets the runner up spot. However, if Denver loses and Youngstown St. wins, then we will have a tiebreaker to decide second place. Stanford, who is on the chopping block of the wildcard standings, has to be hoping that Youngstown St. loses.

Week 10

Minnesota- 65, Denver- 56
Drake- 56, New Hampshire- 44
Youngstown St.- 80, Campbell- 62

Final Group 46 standings:

#1- Minnesota 9-1 (+134)
#2- Youngstown St. 6-4 (+33)
#3- Denver 6-4 (+11)
#4- Drake 4-6 (-29)
#5- New Hampshire 3-7 (-71)
#6- Campbell 2-8 (-78)

So Minnesota wins the group, fairly easily, and has a nice point differential for 9-1 group winners. They'll probably be a top 15 seed. Youngstown St. wins the tiebreaker to get second place. Youngstown St. and Denver split their 2 games, so that means we go to point differential, which gives Youngstown St. second place in the group. They'll be a pretty low seed however. Denver falls just short, and Stanford celebrates, as they stay alive for yet another group. Let's take a look at the updated wildcard standings:

N.C. Central 7-3 (+63)
Jacksonville St. 7-3 (+55)
E. Michigan 7-3 (+50)
Texas 7-3 (+27)
SE Missouri St. 7-3 (+23)

Howard 5-5 (-26) ELIMINATED
NJIT 5-5 (-37) ELIMINATED

Seattle 5-5 (-71) ELIMINATED
Quinnipiac 4-6 (-7) ELIMINATED
Towson 4-6 (-21) ELIMINATED
E. Washington 4-6 (-23) ELIMINATED

As we are down to our last 12 groups, that means that starting with the next group, which will be group 47, not only is one team on the chopping block in the wildcard standings, but the top team has a chance to clinch. So while Stanford remains on the chopping block for group 47, N.C. Central will clinch a wildcard berth unless the third place team in group 47 has a better record/point differential. In other words, if the third place team in group 47 does better than 7-3 (+63) in group play, they'll clinch. If not, N.C. Central clinches.

Week 10 Schedule:

We know that N.C. State has clinched the group. Ohio and Texas St. are in a big battle for second and for a wildcard berth possibly. If both win their games, or if both lose their games, then we have a tie for second and would need a tiebreaker situation. If one wins and one loses, then the one that wins gets second place. I will say that Ohio is in a much, much better place to get a wildcard if they lose. Texas St. probably has to win outright to advance.

Week 10

Ohio- 71, N.C. State- 66
Jackson St.- 72, UAB- 52
Texas St.- 63, Hawaii- 58

Final Group 47 standings:

#1- N.C. State 9-1 (+104)
#2- Ohio 7-3 (+95)
#3- Texas St. 7-3 (+4)
#4- Hawaii 4-6 (-9)
#5- UAB 2-8 (-91)
#6- Jackson St. 1-9 (-103)

N.C. State wins the group, but that loss to Ohio in week 10 will certainly hurt their seed. Ohio wins the tiebreaker for second place. They split with Texas St. in their games, but Ohio has a much better point differential. Ohio will be a solid seed as far as group runner ups go. Texas St., with that 7-3 record, is in great position for a wildcard. Yet another surprise team with a chance to make the round of 128. This does eliminate Stanford, and put Nevada as the next team on the chopping block. N.C. Central is celebrating as they know for sure they will be in the round of 128. This does not mean they have clinched the top wildcard spot, just that they have clinched A wildcard spot. Here are the updated wildcard standings:

N.C. Central 7-3 (+63) CLINCHED
Jacksonville St. 7-3 (+55)
E. Michigan 7-3 (+50)

Week 10 Schedule:

Weber St. @ New Mexico St.
Dartmouth @ Bradley
Toledo @ American

New Mexico St. can clinch the group by beating Weber St., but a Weber St. win creates at least a 2 way tie for first. A Toledo win could make it a 3 way tie for first, and that might be just the mess that SI wants. New Mexico St. can end all that mess by just winning.

Week 10

Weber St.- 74, New Mexico St.- 48
Dartmouth- 74, Bradley- 68 (OT)
Toledo- 64, American- 51

Final Group 48 standings:

#1- Weber St. 7-3 (+131)
#2- New Mexico St. 7-3 (+35)
#3- Toledo 7-3 (+32)
#4- Bradley 4-6 (-24)
#5- Dartmouth 3-7 (-73)
#6- American 2-8 (-101)

Well, SI got his wish (I hope)! A 3 way tie for first. As the first tiebreaker is head to head against the other teams, Weber St. was 3-1, New Mexico St. was 2-2, and Toledo was 1-3. So Toledo takes third. Weber St. swept New Mexico St. so they get first, and New Mexico St. gets second. In this case, the point differential worked out so it would have been the same either way. As far as the wildcard issue goes, Toledo has a 7-3 record and a pretty solid point differential, so they are in wildcard contention for at least a few groups. Unfortunately, we do say goodbye to Nevada, who is officially eliminated. On the flip side, Jacksonville St. has clinched a wildcard berth. Here is a look at the updated wildcard standings with 10 groups to go.

Week 10 Schedule:

LA Tech @ Virginia
Houston Baptist @ Arkansas-LR
Oregon St. @ S. Dakota

Oregon St. has surprisingly already clinched the group. What a run they've made so far. LA Tech needs to win to clinch second place. If Virginia beats LA Tech, it'll be a 2 way tie for second, which could be extended to a 3 way tie for second if S. Dakota can beat Oregon St.. If S. Dakota loses, they must hope that Virginia loses as well, as S. Dakota owns a tiebreaker over Virginia by virtue of beating them twice.

Week 10

Virginia- 60, LA Tech- 55
Houston Baptist- 60, Arkansas-LR- 59
Oregon St.- 65, S. Dakota- 61

Final Group 49 standings:

#1- Oregon St. 9-1 (+152)
#2- LA Tech 6-4 (+37)
#3- Virginia 6-4 (+31)
#4- S. Dakota 5-5 (-30)
#5- Houston Baptist 3-7 (-111)
#6- Arkansas-LR 1-9 (-79)

Oregon St. wins the group, and their point differential is near the top of the 9-1 group winners, should be good enough for a top 20 or 25 seed. LA Tech gets second by virtue of the point differential tiebreaker, as they split with Virginia. LA Tech should get a seed in the 70s give or take. Virginia just edges into that final wildcard spot, for now. In doing so, they have eliminated Houston. Only 3 points separated the 2 teams, but Houston is out, Virginia is in.. for now. E. Michigan is celebrating as they have clinched a wildcard berth now, they were also a surprise team. Here are the updated wildcard standings:

N.C. Central 7-3 (+63) CLINCHED

Fun to see this round coming to a close, and the final bracket spots being claimed. Nice work driving this forward over the past couple of weeks.

Week 10

Iowa- 62, Florida St.- 55
UIC- 67, UNC Wilmington- 56
TX Southern- 86, UTSA- 57

Final Group 50 standings:

#1- Iowa 9-1 (+126)
#2- Illinois-Chicago 7-3 (+34)
#3- TX Southern 6-4 (+39)
#4- Florida St. 5-5 (-8)
#5- UTSA 2-8 (-96)
#6- UNC Wilmington 1-9 (-95)

Iowa wins the group, but their point differential isn't as good as some of the other 9-1 group winners. They should still be in line for a top 25 seed though. UIC comes through and gets second place. Not a great point differential, but they'll just be happy to move on. TX Southern gets third place, and thanks to their 29 point victory over UTSA in week 10, that is good enough for them to edge Virginia by 8 points in the wildcard hunt. So Virginia gets eliminated just 1 group after they get in the hunt. Toledo, who just played their group a couple of groups ago, is probably the quickest team to clinch a wildcard berth after finishing group play. They are happy to be in the round of 128. Here are the updated wildcard standings:

hoopsguy, thanks for the comment. Had I been able to devote more time to this when I originally started it, I could have been well into the round of 128. Now that I've gotten a decent working computer (Finally!) and have most of my personal issues worked out, I have more free time to devote to this project. I'm hoping to have group play done by Christmas day, which shouldn't be a problem with just 8 groups left.

StLee, LSU is still in the hunt, but you're right, it is a nice string of third place teams getting into wildcard contention. LSU still has at least a couple groups before they have to worry about being on the chopping block. There are still 2 teams ahead of them, but you're right, it's getting tense!

VA Tech- 78, Prairie View A&M- 53
San Diego St.- 73, San Jose St.- 49

Week 8

San Diego St.- 62, VA Tech- 57
San Jose St.- 67, Cal Poly- 66 (OT)
UMass- 75, Prairie View A&M- 63

Week 9

San Jose St.- 69, Prairie View A&M- 64
UMass- 64, VA Tech- 42
San Diego St.- 78, Cal Poly- 56

Here are the standings after Week 9:

UMass 8-1 (+121)
San Diego St. 7-2 (+108)
VA Tech 5-4 (-1)
Cal Poly 3-6 (-17)
San Jose St. 3-6 (-89)
Prairie View A&M 1-8 (-122)

Week 10 Schedule:

San Diego St. @ UMass
Prairie View A&M @ Cal Poly
VA Tech @ San Jose St.

So UMass and San Diego St. have clinched the top 2 spots, but the group winner is still in doubt. If San Diego St. beats UMass, we'll have a tiebreaker for the title. If UMass wins, then they win the group. VA Tech is locked into third place, but they must win to even have a chance at a wildcard berth.

Week 10

UMass- 72, San Diego St.- 67
Cal Poly- 59, Prairie View A&M- 50
VA Tech- 74, San Jose St.- 64

Final Group 51 standings:

#1- UMass 9-1 (+126)
#2- San Diego St. 7-3 (+103)
#3- VA Tech 6-4 (+9)
#4- Cal Poly 4-6 (-8)
#5- San Jose St. 3-7 (-99)
#6- Prairie View A&M 1-9 (-131)

UMass wins the group, with the exact same record and point differential as Iowa, who was last groups winner. That means those 2 will have some tiebreakers to deal with to determine who gets the better seed. San Diego St. takes second, and only one team has a higher point differential of the 7-3 group runner ups, so they should be a fairly high seed as far as group runner ups go. VA Tech gets third, but their margin of victory in Week 10 wasn't enough. The point differential isn't good enough, and VA Tech is eliminated from the tournament. This means that TX Southern hangs on for at least one more week, and much to StLee's delight, LSU is still at least 2 groups away from the chopping block, with 7 to go. Cross your fingers StLee!! This also means that Texas has clinched a wildcard berth. Here are the updated wildcard standings:

Here are the standings after week 9:

Boise St. 8-1 (+96)
UConn 7-2 (+41)
Green Bay 6-3 (-3)
Charleston Southern 3-6 (+14)
Fordham 2-7 (-48)
Samford 1-8 (-100)

Week 10 Schedule:

UConn @ Boise St.
Samford @ Green Bay
Charleston Southern @ Fordham

Boise St. and UConn have already clinched spots in the round of 128 no matter what. If Boise St. beats UConn in Week 10, they win the group. If UConn beats Boise St, it'll be a tiebreaker. Even if UConn loses, they would still be 7-3, which would be good enough for a wildcard. It's a little more dicey for Green Bay. With their point differential, a loss would leave them at 6-4, but they wouldn't have the point differential for a wildcard. However, if they beat Samford, they are in the round of 128. If Green Bay wins and UConn loses, there will be a tiebreaker for second place.

Week 10

UConn- 72, Boise St.- 61
Green Bay- 58, Samford- 49
Charleston Southern- 76, Fordham- 67

Final Group 52 standings:

#1- Boise St. 8-2 (+85)
#2- UConn 8-2 (+52)
#3- Green Bay 7-3 (+6)
#4- Charleston Southern 4-6 (+23)
#5- Fordham 2-8 (-57)
#6- Samford 1-9 (-109)

Even though UConn beat Boise St. in week 10, they needed to win by a large, large margin because Boise St. won in week 5. So with the split, point differential becomes the tiebreaker and gives Boise St. the Group 52 title. Obviously as far as seeding goes, there's a pretty big difference between 9-1 and 8-2, so they'll drop a few spots with the week 10 loss. UConn is a tough luck group runner up, but 8-2 is the best record for group runner-ups, so they'll be a decent seed. Green Bay finishes third and the 7-3 record is good enough to keep them in wildcard contention (much to the chagrin of StLee). This does eliminate Texas Southern and clinches a wildcard berth for SE Missouri St. With 6 groups to go, here are the updated wildcard standings:

N.C. Central 7-3 (+63) CLINCHED
Jacksonville St. 7-3 (+55) CLINCHED
E. Michigan 7-3 (+50) CLINCHED

Quinnipiac 4-6 (-7) ELIMINATED
Towson 4-6 (-21) ELIMINATED
E. Washington 4-6 (-23) ELIMINATED

As we head to Group 53, Green Bay, who just played in Group 52, already has a chance to clinch a wildcard berth if things go right in Group 53. Vermont is the next team on the chopping block.

Group 48 was indeed fun

I'm going to be a little slow staying on top of things as I'm out of town for the holidays but it'll be fun to catch up in blocks like this when I can or when I get back.

Week 10 Schedule:

Missouri @ Stony Brook
VMI @ Fairfield
San Diego @ UTPA

Missouri has clinched the group title, quite convincingly. The battle for second and third is still very much alive. San Diego will clinch second place with a win, or a Fairfield and a Stony Brook loss. If San Diego loses and Fairfield and/or Stony Brook win, we will have a tiebreaker for second place. As far as third place goes, if Fairfield and Stony Brook both lose and either VMI and/or UTPA wins, we could have a possibility of a 4 way tie for third. As far as a wildcard berth, all those teams still in wildcard contention can celebrate.. we will NOT have a wildcard team from this group.
