Another 'Survivor' gambling scandal

SPOILER ALERT: Don't read any further if you don't want to know who possibly wins "Survivor Panama: Exile Island."

The CBS reality series "Survivor" has been hit by another betting scandal.

Bodog.com, a licenced online gambling and entertainment company, has suspended betting on "Survivor Panama: Exile Island" due to a tip from a person who called their customer service department over the weekend.

According to Bodog.com, the unidentified caller claimed to be a “close associate” of Danielle DiLorenzo, the 24-year-old medical sales representative from Boston. He claimed that information had been leaked to a group of bettors on Bodog.com and other sites.

”The bookmakers also noticed, around the same time, heavy betting coming from similar IP addresses for the contestant Danielle DiLorenzo, with each of the bettors betting the maximum of $100.00 U.S. The geographical area identified by the Bodog.com bookmakers was New York State,” Calvin Ayre, Founder and CEO of Bodog.com, told Jam! Showbiz.


Upon uncovering that information, the bookmakers made the decision to shut down betting on "Survivor Panama."

"Our entertainment bookmakers were quick to react and investigate this incident, and although we can't at all substantiate the claim of the person who called, the lines have been taken down as a precaution," stated Ayre. "Our entertainment bets are designed to enhance the wagering and viewing experience for our customers, and it is our duty to ensure that the integrity of the lines are kept intact at all times."

This is not the first time "Survivor" has been at the centre of a gambling scandal. During the "Amazon" season, it was revealed that some CBS employees were betting on Bodog.com for either Jenna Morasca, the eventual winner, or Matthew Von Ertfelda to take home the million dollar cheque. When the "Pearl Islands" edition was on the air, another online betting site had to halt gambling on "Survivor" when they noticed a dubious number of bets being placed on contestant Sandra Diaz-Twine. Diaz-Twine went on to claim the title of "Sole Survivor."

CBS representatives did not immediately return calls for comment late Tuesday.
