2001 is the worst film ever made. Then again, I've like exactly one half of a film Stanley Kubrick directed (the first half of Full Metal Jacket). The rest of his movies are pseudo "art" films that masks the fact that he couldn't tell a decent story. Hell, he even ruined one of the best Stephen King movies to the point King himself came out and stated he hated it (The first Shining movie with Nicholson).

I'm not a fan of the LOTR movies, and I though I was the only one. Glad to see I'm not.

Benjamin Button was 2 hours too long.

I did enjoy Kind of Queens though.

But what if Kevin James was... a zookeeper!

(Seriously, Paul Blart made $50 million+, and they've greenlit a 'sequel' with him as a zookeeper. I hate Hollywood execs/the general moviegoing public - particularly those people that pay to see Kevin James movies)

Yeah I realized about 20 minutes in it was aimed at the crowd you're talking about. I had already committed so I finished it. Glad I did because the last part of it was actually pretty good, but that was like the last half hour or so.

When I am done watching any Judd Apatow movie I am left thinking that was decent but I thought it was supposed to be funnier .... Of course I have more of an American Pie humor than Superbad.

I felt the same way about Benjamin Buttons as I did Children of Men ... what was the point? There was no wrap up ... no conclusion ... no why's answered.

Spoiler in white below about BB

Like for one explain the freaking clock ... what did it have to do with the damn story. I waited the whole movie for them to tie the damn clock into why BB was aging backwards but nothing.

Gotta agree that the Shawshank Redemption was overrated.

My point was they has so much crap included in the film that they could have cut it down to a much shorter film and it would have been better.

Or not made it at all. That would have been fine as well. Then again, I don't see what is so great about Cate Blanchett -- she is not a very good actress.

Everyone tells me I should like Swingers but I don't. I think that's the definition of this thread, right? I also get strange looks from my friends when I say 2001 was boring - but it was, right?

As for the other 80% of the movies discussed in here - y'all are nuts

Yeah, I'm with you on 2001. I tried to watch it twice and couldn't get past the monkey scene. I put it on our Watch Instantly Q and will try and get past that scene to see what all the hoopla's about.

The humor to me just seems really forced in his movies and I find myself actually bored watching them.

My wife and I have been renting movies this summer to catch up a bit with movies one or both of us have never seen and Tuesday we watched LA Confidential, which I had seen before but she had not.

I don’t know what it is about the movie, it’s a solid 8 in my mind, but I have now been disappointed twice by it. I think my expectations are just that much higher, that it could have been a 10. The acting is very good with Russell Crowe, Kevin Spacey, Guy Pearce, James Cromwell, Danny DeVito, and Kim Basinger all giving performances from pretty good to graet. But at its core, the writing just doesn’t zing and the plot is just a cliché dirty cop movie. The rabbit hole doesn’t go deep enough, I guess, for what I expect from film noir. It’s not a bad movie- it’s solid and good- and I had a hard time explaining to my wife what I didn’t like, but I just remember feeling disappointed both times I saw it.

I agree, Godfather 1 was a great movie, 2 was pretty good, but nowhere near as good as the first one and I haven't seen the third one since the second did not leave me wanting more and I heard it wasn't that great.

Tombstone - This was like Michael Bay does the old West
Young Frankenstein - I love Mel Brooks, but I just, didn't, get it.
American Beauty - Could you possibly squeeze one more white suburban stereotype in a movie?
Anything involving Jay and Silent Bob - cussing is funny once in a while...but not for 90 minutes straight

Some movies I loathe and could not get through (or wish I would have left during or actually did leave during):

The Big Lebowski - bought this because of the hype and wanted that time and money back

Other People's Money - actually fell asleep in the theater to this one

Jackie Brown - only redeeming feature of this movie is Bridgett Fonda

Napoleon Dynamite - again, watched because of the hype. This is one of the worst movies in the history of mankind.

Forest Gump - not worth the hype

Waterworld - self explanatory

Blazing Saddles - another crappy movie, never have gotten through the entire thing.

Stepbrothers - this movie is awful.

C'mon, Tombstone? This is an excellent movie. American Beauty isn't too bad either. I agree with Young Frankenstein.

I also like all three of the Godfather films. Just personal taste I guess.

There are probably more, but here's a few off the top of my head:

No Country for Old Men
- Just senseless to me. Tommy Lee Jones's soliloquy at the end was cringe-worthy and out of left field.

American Beauty
- Should have been called Angst-Ridden White Middle Class American Beauty.

Anything with John Wayne
- His character (since he only had one) always seemed flat to me.

The Godfather series
- Brilliant acting directing, writing, everything. It just depresses me every time I try to watch it.

Pulp Fiction
- I love every other Tarantino film, but I just can't get into this one.

My wife and I were talking about it in passing for some reason the other day and she said the same thing about us not being the target audience even tho it was about middle class white suburban folks (I am, she isn't). I had to correct her- that's upper middle class, at least, if not upper class. Middle class for me evokes blue collar or trade skills or non-management white collar. Those people were nothing of the sort.

I tried to watch Tropic Thunder the other day. We did not make it through the sick, disgusting fake previews at the beginning. The Ben Stiller "Scorcher" one was funny, the others were just going for shock rather than comedy. We decided not to waste our time on the rest of the movie.

There may have been a couple questionable moments, but JESUS CHRIST MAN. You have to like this movie, if for nothing else but this scene...

If it had been me who had not made it, Major Coolidge would be talking right now to my son Jim. But the way it turned out is I'm talking to you, Butch. I got something for ya. [Holds up watch] This watch I got here was first purchased by your great-grandfather during the first world war. It was bought in a little general store in Knoxville, Tennessee, made by the first company to ever make wrist watches. Up until then, people just carried pocket watches. It was bought by Private Doughboy Ryan Coolidge the day he set sail for Paris. This was your great-grandfather's war watch, and he wore it every day he was in the war. Then when he had done his duty, he went home to your great-grandmother, took the watch and put it in an old coffee can. And in that can it stayed 'til your granddad Dane Coolidge was called upon by his country to go overseas and fight the Germans once again. This time they called it World War Two. Your great-granddad gave this watch to your granddad for good luck. Unfortunately, Dane's luck wasn't as good as his old man's. Dane was a Marine and he was killed along with all the other Marines at the battle of Wake Island. Your granddad was facing death, and he knew it. None of those boys had any illusions about ever leaving that island alive. So three days before the Japanese took the island, your granddad asked a gunner on an Air Force transport named Winocki, a man he had never met before in his life, to deliver to his infant son, who he had never seen in the flesh, his gold watch. Three days later, your grandfather was dead. But Winocki kept his word. After the war was over, he paid a visit to your grandmother, delivering to your infant father, his Dad's gold watch. This watch. This watch was on your Daddy's wrist when he was shot down over Hanoi. He was captured and put in a Vietnamese prison camp. He knew if the gooks ever saw the watch that it'd be confiscated; taken away. The way your Dad looked at it, this watch was your birthright. He'd be damned if any slopes were gonna put their greasy yellow hands on his boy's birthright. So he hid it in the one place he knew he could hide something. His ass. Five long years, he wore this watch up his ass. Then when he died of dysentery, he gave me the watch. I hid this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass for two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I give the watch to you."

I just don't get people who watch a few minutes of a movie, and then just stop because they think that they'll hate the rest. I once did the same thing with "American Psycho", but gave it an actual shot a couple years later, and think it's a great film.

You missed out on a good one.

Maybe I misremembered (thanks Roger Clemens), but I thought I read that you didn't like to sit through movies somewhere.

x2

You need to watch the movie. TT is arguably one the greatest comedies of the 00s.

Does the sense of humor change? The "style" that showed is the same I've seen in too many modern comedies that I just hate. I can't stand most Will Farrel movies, for example. I like a fair amount of Ben Stiller (Night at the Museum-type movies) and had high hopes for the premise of Tropic Thunder, I just didn't want to see 90 minutes of the type of humor they showed in the first 5. Heck, we almost didn't make it more than 30 seconds with the opening trailer...

That was probably me. I haven't seen a non-kids movie since Borat. And I saw that about a year after it came out. Before that, it was that South Park war movie. Oh, and a terrible romantic comedy called Elizabethtown which we watched solely because most of it was filmed in our town. I think I've seen about a dozen non-kids movies since 2000.
