I never thought I'd live to see the day where I would witness a Sideshow Bob totem pole.

Had the ultrasound, no clot. That is good but they still don't know what it is. At this point I wait a couple days to see if it gets better. If not she'll put me on antibiotics.

I wonder if there's some kind of absinthe that could be made out of it?

I worked with a guy whose foot swelled up and changed colors like that. After a week or so, they determined that he didn't bump his leg on something, he got bit by a rattlesnake. The bite was hidden in all of the discoloration and swelling.

Good point. Any snakes/spiders in your neck of the woods EF?

Snake is actually first thing I thought of.

My grandfather always told me never to go near the woodpile on his farm because rattlesnakes liked to hide there.

Hey, EF, since you'll be in recovery for a couple weeks, you should join Abe's WW game.

This thread is full of awesome.

In a high school soccer game, I got kicked REALLY hard in the spot right where my shinguard ended on the inside of my leg/shin. So I got some of the bruising from the kick and some from the shinguard dorking up, too. I had similar symptoms that you described and could barely walk, let alone run. Took a LOOOONG time to heal all the way.

Yay no blood clot.

This is the kind of stuff that can happen with bad leg bruises. TK's story is a fairly common one for soccer players -- a bad kick bruise ends up migrating down the leg.

I see what you did there...

Bruising isn't as bad and swelling down some. The doctor wants me to stay off it as much as possible for the weekend to see what it looks like on Monday. If it hasn't improved by then she is sending me to a vascular specialist.

I am thinking spider bite as there now seems to be a distinct area in the middle of the bruising that has remained. It looks a little more like a bite now that the other bruising has "faded" around it a bit.

actually, snake is probably more likely. a black widow bite is neurotoxic, and doesnt really cause the symptoms you are describing, and a brown recluse is cytotoxic...it actually causes a big puss filled abscess as it dissolves your flesh, and is easily recognizable by the hard white center (looks like a giant zit)

In my experience, brown recluses don't always leave a tell-tale. The ones I have been involved in (about 4 different cases), only one actually had the hard white center. The other three didn't, and took awhile to get diagnosed correctly and treated. Nasty little buggers.
