The Wintersports Thread

Hi guys, anybody here follow any ?

With a couple world championships coming up, maybe there´s some interest here.

Dunno if it´s shown in the US in time delay anywhere, but if it is you have to check out the downhill (skiing ) in Kitzbuhel today, the course is just brutal and allways an incredible show to watch. It also begs the question as to wether or not you need a genetic defect to be able to do it, ridiculously close to deadly danger i´d wager ...

Also today there will be a Skiflying event today (4pm european time) and tomorrow (2.30 pm). What´s skiflying ? It´s skijumping, only on hills that allow flights beyond 200 (often more like 230 with the record at 246) metres.
Today they´ll be in Vikersund, which isn´t the most spectacular hill (which easily is Planica), but the one allowing the furthest flights :

any favourite winter sports for you guys to recommend to others ?

I bet ski jumping would be a great thrill.

Over here in the States, we have hockey again! And I have started curling to pass the time.

For a while, I thought I was a huge Women's World Cup skiing fan, but I think I'm actually just stalking Lindsey Vonn.

I'm not sure if hockey counts, but obviously I follow that (I'm Canadian, eh?).

Curling used to interest me, but it lost me a decade or so ago when there was a big split between two leagues. It has since come back together but I've never gotten back into it.

I just watched some kind of RedBull Crashed Ice event, that was interesting.

I play sponge hockey, no one outside of Manitoba knows what it is.

Too late I'm afraid-Tiger Woods apparently got to her first

Ski World Championships are underway. Unfortunately with a chaotic race (delayed multiple times, then like every 3rd racer had trouble navigating the same freaking goal and often blatantly going past and out of the track) that was capped by one of the more horrific looking injuries i´ve ever seen in a sporting event.

Lindsay Vonn did a jump and then on the landing her Knee just buckled and contorted on impact, then she crashed in a sommersault (likely due to her reflexively stretching the other leg out). Then everbody at the course went dead silent, you could her crying and screaming ... ( the broadcasters should have muted the respective microphones ...)
Had to be lifted out by a rescue crew by Chopper to a nearby hospital.

Hope she´s allright long term, short term at least this season is over with ACL and MCL tears ...

Tina Maze won the Gold in front of Lara Gut and Julia Mancuso.

Saw this bumped and saw some ski accident while I was at the gym.

Vonn? Shit...that's not good at all.
