Request for thought and prayers
Hey everyone. This board has meant a lot to me since I was a young teenager, and I've read about tough times in the lives of other members. I was very lucky up until recently to not have experienced any such personal hardships.
With that preamble out of the way, my mom was diagnosed with stage four cancer of the pancreas and liver about a month ago. She is 62 years old, and a strong woman. Being still somewhat young and stubborn, she decided to undergo chemotherapy to attempt to shrink the cancer down, and extend her life as long as possible. However, after the first treatments made her unable to even walk or speak, she decided she didn't want to fight it. The doctor is giving her about two months. I am heartbroken. She raised me as a single parent, and sacrificed incessantly to make sure I had a decent upbringing. She had a housecleaning business to put food on the table, but in order to afford my tuition at a private school, she offered to clean the school 5 nights a week. It was a fair trade in her mind. Watching someone so strong be hit so hard by this is mind blowing, and I now understand the pain that this brings. Please just send a kind thought or prayer her way if you have the chance Thank you, Karl

I have watched too many cancer battles far too close to do anything except offer my sincerest condolences on the situation and a prayer.

Karlifornia, I hope that the time you and your mom have is meaningful for you both (an unlikely wish but one I sincerely mean). You and your family will be in our prayers.

Praying for those involved. This is the kind of situation that reminds me the worst of my problems are mere minor annoyances, if that. Peace to you.

Thanks for the kind sentiments. My mom passed away this morning. I got to the hospital after her passing. Thank all of those who posted or just gave her a thought. She went peacefully.
Love you, mom. RIP

I know what it is like to lose a parent to cancer as I saw my father get devastated by chemo a couple of years ago. I am truly sorry you have lost your mother.

Thanks everyone. I know she woulda dug reading all the kind words. Today was better than yesterday, but the little reminders are tough. I still have to go through her things, which I imagine will be difficult.
Anyway, all your words helped me immensely. Thank you again, FOFC.
