I think they got the right result with the goal line technology, but the presentation was ridiculous.

The "no goal" made it more confusing than it had to be. Dutch commentator is still puzzled, despite the "goal" message.

It´s the same as is used in Tennis for years, nobody seems to mind that one. (not the technology, the presentation !)

Anyone who has watched the US play Honduras in the past decade has seen Honduras's cheapness. They do hard fouls and roll around if you look at them. If they score a goal early, the theatrics get worse. If they're losing, they try to make sure you don't have enough healthy players to win the next.

The fans are even classier. We saw them in 2009 during a qualifier. They were "accidentally" feeling up my 6 months pregnant wife and spent most of the game swearing at the 10 year old ball boy for not getting the balls out fast enough once they were losing. The cops had to come over and stand by the railings so they'd stop throwing stuff at the kid.

I should clarify that I meant the "No Goal" announcement was crazy. It created confusion which was completely unnecessary.

If goal line technology detects a goal, there is no need for the GLT replays to show anything but the goal.

Was wondering what he was doing with that kick, but it turned out really well for France. 3-0.

I'm really looking forward to Argentina - Bosnia-Herzegovina, naively hoping for a 4-3 kind of score.

Not buying the Argentina hype so far. Messi looks like he has no idea how to play outside of the Barca system still

Looks like the Argentine manager has too many players ticked to dribble more and pass less.

Happy that we beat those dirty Honduras team. We did expect that kind of play and I even expected dirtier play than that.

That French defense is still worrying me but offensively, we looked to have something going on.

I'm a few days behind but wanted to say that even though they lost, that England team looked better than I've seen them play since Euro 96.

Went down a US Soccer rabbit hole for like 20 minutes, finished with seeing the uncalled handball in the '02 QF against Germany. I literally got nauseous seeing that.

We owe both Ghana and Germany some payback. Just hope we have the team to do it and at least get through to the round of 16. The realist in me says it's not going to happen. The dreamer says why not?

Asking you, and I know we have some Dayton area folks around here, but are there any good soccer bars in the area? Dublin Pub is 5-10 minutes away and I am assuming that is the best bet but wondering if I am missing any.

I don't think so. I think the Cincinnati area has us well beaten on that front.

In terms of the US, I would imagine we're rooting for this order of results:
1) Germany win
2) Tie
3) Portugal win

Germany getting two wins heading into the final group game with the US might help us should we need points in that match as Germany could have the opportunity to rest players.

I've only had a chance to watch a couple of the games but what's the general impression on the announcers for the Germany-Portugal game? I feel like I'm watching the Kent Brockman half of the Simpsons soccer joke

That was a boneheaded move by the Portuguese defender to get the yellow card and give up the penalty.

If we assume the US-Ghana match is a must win for the US to have any chance (which I believe it is), I think our best outcome here is a draw.

I think if you assume Portugal and Germany both beat Ghana, that puts them at three wins. If they both tie here, that puts them at four points with a harder shot at the US getting four plus tiebreaker

Barring a major upset, Germany is moving out of the group. I'd rather see Germany win, rather than a tie.

Already an injury sub for Portugal. They look far from imposing here early... maybe a bit intimidated.

That was a powerful header off of the corner kick to score. 2-0 Germany. They aren't losing a two goal lead.

Nothing better than watching a frustrated Portugal team. Bunch of babies are going to be complaining the next 60 minutes.
