Thabeet picks up his 2nd foul (thanks to Wall who Turner can't guard with his injury) with 9 minutes to go in the 1st. I decide to go with Page, our young big C to guard Bynum. We lead 8-4. Tiggs with all 8 points...

Turner picks up 2 quick fouls and has to sit. We are down 16-12 with 5 minutes to go in the quarter.

At the end of 1, we are down 25-20. Wall with 10 points already.

Turner's injury is really hurting us but Jefferson looks completely ineffective. Going to Villanueva more as a result.

Wall is destroying us. So strong and quick.

At the half, we are down 66-44. Wall with 22 points and 5 assists.

At the end of 3 ,we are down 88-68.

Wall with 30 points and 7 assists.

We lose the game 118-96.

Wall finishes as the player of the game with 40 points and 12 assists.

Turner was limited by foul trouble and only had 10 points, 4 boards, and 3 assists.

Mayo led the team with 19 points but he shot 7 of 19.

We are almost there, but our young guys need to mature just a bit... a top draft pick wouldn't hurt - maybe the star C.. can we trade up to get him?

Retirees:

Kobe Bryant, 36 years old.

Rashard Lewis, 35.

Brendan Haywood, 35.

Shawn Marion, 37 - got his ring.

Ditto for Rip Hamilton, 37.

Tayshaun Prince, 35.

Jerry Sloan, Heat and Alvin Gentry, Knicks are retiring.

Tracy McGrady and Kobe are inducted into the Hall of Fame.

Off season Progression: Mayo takes a huge step forward. Tiggs with a smaller step forward.

Coaching moves:

We decide to give Doug Collins a 5 year extension. Despite the loss, I feel he has us heading in the right direction.

We pick up Kelley, Ramos, and Myers options.

Wow. LeBron declined his player option and is a FA! Wade accepted his player option as did Bosh.

Ouch, Bernie Jefferson is determined to test the FA market and will not sign an extension.

Ditto for Guy Ball

The Draft Lottery Results:

1 pick goes to the Trail Blazers!

#2 Bobcats, #3 Celtics, #4 Nets, #5 Hornets, #6 Spurs, #7 Nuggets, #8 Knicks, #9 Rockets, and 10 Wolves.

We have the 17th (Wizards) and 24th pick (Suns.) That will be tough to package to get the big man, but can we do it?

I try to get the #2 pick from the Bobcats for 17th and 24th, but the want Tiggs added in.

I turn that down but I offer them Speights instead which they accept.

Will I regret that? Not, if I get the big man with the #2 and he is dominant like I think he can be.

Thoughts on top 2 prospects that are likely to be available at #2:

Andrew Samuels - 21 year old 6'9 244 PF who played for Nebraska who has the potential to be an elite all-around player who will probably be a better offensive player than defender... Only weakness is poor court vision. Best potential of any big man in the draft..

Robin Scott - 21 year 7'0 250 pound PF/C who playedc fgor Georgia with the potential to put on more muscle/weight who is the best shot blocker I've ever seen. Better athleticism than Samuels but not as much upside. He is a poorer scorer but is the better post player and could be a shut down defender in the paint.

Leaning towards Scott but it is such a tough choice.. If I took Samuels, I'd be counting on Jefferson to play a lot of C for us.

Time for the draft:

I'm expecting a super-star PG Ray Humphries to go #1, but they might take Samuels who is the 2nd highest potential player according to my scouts...

Chester Carney, a 6'7 SF with all kinds of skill is also expected to go in the top 3. Scott projects as the 4th pick, but I think I'll surprise the mock experts...

With the 1st pick, the trai blazers take... Humphries. No surprise.

You can't coach size and I think Scott has more potential than the experts realize. He is compared to Pau Gasol which I think is all wrong, but I agree they are both athletic big men..

Robin Scott is our new starting C.

Wow.

Samuels drops to 5th after the Hornets trade down and the Bobcats trade up to get him. Bobcats worked the draft like masters..

Carney went 3rd and North a very good SG went 4th to the Nets.

The Warriors get a very intriguing SF at #18. He is 7'0 210 and can shoot the 3. Olson will be one to watch.

The Bulls traded Ronnie Brewer and their 2nd round pick to the Nuggets for Arron Afflalo and Andrei Kirilenko.

In the 2nd round with the 57th pick, I take a 6'7 SF who can shoot and move well.

Early overall ratings:

Wow, I chose well. Samuels is only a 72. I guess my scouts were wrong. Scott is a 78. Humphries is the top player at an 80. Carney is also a 78.

I ofer Jefferson, Ball, and Fordham qualifying offers which they all accept as restricted FA's. Whew.

Time for FA and LeBron is once again the biggest agent on the market...

Other big time FA's are Owen Blake, Cam Campbell, Donnie Hodges who is a superstar PF (might I upgrade by going after him?) and Rajon Rondo..

LeBron is looking for 122 million over 5 years...

I can't afford LeBron or Hodges.

Jefferson re-signs with us for 5 years and 62 million dollars.

We re-sign Guy Ball for 3 years and 14 million.

We also sign PG Patrick Beverly to the mid-level. He is a 6'1 PG who is a tough defender who can shoot a fair bit.

The Big FA's:

First was Cam Campbell who left Phoenix for Atlanta - 5 years and 95 million.

He was then joined by Owen Blake who left Washington for Atlanta - 5 years and 90 million.

Then, the biggest domino fell... LeBron left Miami to go and play with some other superstars - in Memphis! 5 years and 112 million.

At least, we don't have to face them until the Finals.

The Wizards signed Wesley Matthews a player I was going after with my MLE who is a decent young PF to a 4 year 26 million dollar deal.

The Celtics added Spencer Hawes for 4 years and 40 million - overpaying.

The Hawks then added another piece as they go Yi Jianlian for 6 years and 92 million - a bit high.

Kings then got Tyrus Thomas for 4 years and 48 million.

The Grizzlies then added another piece as they got Carlos Boozer to sign for 1 year and 10 million.. wow.

The Celtics re-signed Rondo for 5 years and 105 million.

The Bulls signed Richie Harper (from the Clippers) for 5 years and 88 million.

The Lakers added J.R. Smith for 3 years and 23 million.

The Bobcats signed Darnell Schultz, a good young PF for 3 years and 24 million.

The Hornets got Tony Parker for 1 year at 5 million.

The Grizzlies then added another piece as they got Thaddeus Young to sign for 4 years and 57 million!

The Wizards signed Donovan Snow to 4 years and 46 million.

The Lakers got a young PG I liked, Willie Warren to sign for 3 years and 30 million.

The Pistons signed Simon Reid, a talented young SG to 4 years and 52 million - continuing their log jam.

The Knicks then added the best piece out there, PF Donnie Hodges for 5 years and 88 million.

Wow. Look at the Grizzlies team now: LeBron (99), OJ Mayo (94), Thaddeus Young (83), Boozer (83) Michael Congley (83). They lack a C, but they have talent at the 1-4 positions.

Of course, they did lose Rudy Gay who I'm not sure where he went..

A look at the roster now:

Turner, 26, 6'7 205, rated 98 overall.

Mayo, 23, 6'8 215, rated 85 overall.

Jefferson 6'10 253, 27, rated 83 overall.

Robin Scott, 21, 7'0 250, rated 79 overall.

Tiggs 22, 6'3 212, rated 79 overall.

Kelley, 22, 6'11 220, rated 74 overall.

Villanueva 6'11 232, rated 74, 31.

Ball 6'6 200, 26, rated 71.

Patrick Beverly, 6'1 180, rated 69.

Thabeet, 28, 7'3 263, rated 69.

Fuller, 27, 6'6 197, rated 66.

No, this team is going to grow into a championship team together. Kelley is a great back-up 3 and 4. I'm not going to go after Thaddeus. Time to play Charlotte and beat them..

At the end of 1, we are up 26-19. Nice balance from our offensive stars.

A wild first quarter in Oklahoma. We are down 32-27. Daquean Cook with a big quarter against us.

8 minutes left in the 3rd as Westbrook and Turner collide.. Westbrook is hurt. We are tied at 66..

At the end of 3, we lead 77-74. Westbrook is back in the game and appears to have just been shaken up.

Wow. We had a 3 point lead with a minute to go, but a turnover by Tiggs and a bad shot by Turner lead to a 103-102 loss.

LeBron with 30 points as the Grizzlies cruise to a 103-87 win over the Celtics. They have won 10 in a row.

The Jazz offer me their 1st round pick plus SF DaJuan Summers for Robin Scott. Summers is an athletic wing player and that 1st round pick might be high as the Jazz are 19-21 but I pass.

We are now 27-18. Our next game is against Iggy and the Spurs who are 20-25 with a rating of 79.

In other news:

The Heat post-LeBron are struggling and are on a 10 game losing streak as Wade's injuries are slowing him down.

Donny Hodges wins Player of the Week in the East for NY. Paul George of the Lakers wins it in the West. The 1st time this year that LeBron didn't win it.

LeBron is on pace to be a runaway MVP winner.. again.
