I'm well aware of that - although, of the college sports I follow, football seems to be the only one that willingly sacrifices tangible competition for money. The worst you can say about CBB or some of the other tournament sports is that they may fudge seeding a bit to get desired matchups or locations, but at least the teams who deserve to be there get a chance (and no one cares that the 35th best P5 team might have gotten hosed).

CFB desperately needs a real tournament (which should, in theory, mean more money too) or to just go back to top 2 AP teams and call it a day.

So, what no one is asking, what if Northwestern comes down with a rash of COVID cases and can't play the Big Ten Championship?

Then OSU will still make the top 4 because they pass the "eye test."

Ksyrup answered this question and I agree with what he said. The question I have is what happens if OSU has a second outbreak. I feel like the answer for all of these questions are the same.

Coastal Carolina plays at 3 pm today (not on TV) at Troy in a COVID-19 rescheduled game. Interestingly enough, Coastal petitioned the Sun Belt to cancel the game because both finalists for the Sun Belt Championship had already been decided, and with the horror of COVID hovering, it would be the best thing the Conference could do. Commissioner didn't agree, and Coastal's head coach not happy about it. Hope it doesn't come back to haunt the Commissioner today.

Coastal won by 3 points last year, and Troy is 5-5, so I hope they don't overlook them in getting ready for the Championship game.

Considering that the bowl games may have zero fans, if you're going to let a Cincy in, this is a good year for it.

And they'd like to keep it flowing.

We're not _that_ far from renegotiation time (current deal runs out in 2025-26 I think), nobody at the CFP wants to devalue the revenue potential. And that's what an underperforming game with a little sister could easily do. Drive down the average rating, you lose leverage.

Huge let down spot coming off the BYU game. I bet Troy +13.5

Washington-Oregon cancelled today which means Huskies clinch the PAC 12 North by not having enough scholarship players to field a team. Not sure how I feel about that.

Alabama is good at football.

I have a bet on Clemson to with the NC. That ticket may as well be a coaster at this point.

NCAA Football: Utah St. players won't play vs. Colorado St.

I know we have a few folks familiar with sports in Utah. After reading this article, I google Frank M-. At that point, Frank Maile religion popped up which meant I was not the only one who wanted to know. Frank Maile is a member of the Church of Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

Why the hell would Utah State discriminate on the basis of religion against a coach who is a member of the Church of Christ of Latter-Day Saints?

Some background checking leads me to think I might have figured this one out.

She doesn't appear to be LDS, so perhaps there's a difference between "Utah State" discriminating and "a member of their administration" discriminating.

Barely 6 minutes played and Coastal already up 14-0 thanks to a big run, then got an INT on Troy's first series

AL is the safe bet.

But Clemson has found the formula before and Dabo's had more success against Alabama than I remember. So I'd hang on to it.

Troy fought back after being down 14-0, and is duwn by 5 at the half 21-16.

I'm alive..barely. So is Coastal's undefeated season. After throwing a late INT that gave Troy the lead but somehow with no timeouts and 75 yards to go Coastal connected on all four passes including a 23 yarder for the game winner. Wow what a season its been!

Miami got embarrassed today, Florida playing a "hold my beer" first half against LSU to even things up before the Orange Bowl.

I don't expect it to happen, but if LSU could play one more good half, I'd have the most unexpected day - an FSU win versus UF in basketball, an FSU football win of any kind, and losses by Miami and UF.

Chip Kelly and the UCLA Bruins not only manage to choke away an 18 point second half lead, they also fail to cover the 3 1/2 points, losing to USC 43-38.

Guys Malzan got the axe. Auburn is a tough place to survive, but he rode that bucking horse as long as he could. I would love to see him as a OC at Georgia, though I am sure he will get a HC gig somewhere.

I'm shocked by the timing of that move, have to think they already have a replacement in hand. "a buyout of more than $21 million, half of which is due within 30 days" is a lotta money in 2020

Malazhn's buyout? $21.45 million. He'll have time to pick and choose.

Not a bad year for LSU.

The season feels NotQuiteReal b/c of COVID.
So you can sort of revel in 2019 for longer than you would otherwise.
And you beat Florida.

Like, if you are going to have a shitty season, that seems like the way to do it.

I'd think twice about accepting a head coaching job at Auburn. They fired Gene Chizik two years after he won a national championship. Tough neighborhood. They have to play Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M and Georgia every year.

Coastal Carolina becomes the first Sun Belt team to crack the top-10 in the AP Poll at #9, I think now if they win the Sun Belt Championship, they are going to get a New Years Bowl game regardless of what might happen with Cincy,

You want to wait for Saban to leave. Malzahn was crazy/clever enough to steal a few Iron Bowl games. You run the risk of being Michigan to Ohio State if you get a boring replacement who tries to compete head to head with Alabama.

I would think "best" would be not quite elite places but have good facilities and recruiting grounds. Somewhere you could win 7-10 games and be a king and have a couple off years and be ok. Like if you're at Notre Dame or Ohio State or Alabama, the rope is going to be short

Best is easy-- Iowa

Top 10 salary, Excellent facilities, Rabid fan base, weak press corps, can get away with anything with minimal damage, awesome buyout, expectations of the ones that matter is get to a bowl game in warm weather.

Worst-- Nebraska

Who can live up to those unrealistic expectations? The fan base thinks it is still 1997. Terrible recruiting area.

2nd Worst-- I would say Notre Dame.

Even when you win it isnt enough. Expectations are high. Recruiting to a private Catholic Uiversity.

Speaking of Iowa, what a classic B1G game. That went back to the days of 3 yards and a cloud of dust. Wiscys offense was depleted. But both defense brought the hammer. There was some serious hitting going on.

It was snowing through the entire game.

And the cherry on top was Iowa winningg 28-7.

Good list here, although I think Penn St is sort of TBD and leans more toward the best. They’ve only had six (non-interim, but 7 if you count Bradley stepping in for Paterno) head coaches since 1930! I also think expectations at Alabama are going to be ridiculous when Sabin leaves and, unless Dabo jumps (which he may), it is pretty easy to imagine them going through some head coaches. They had like six in the 25 years between Bryant and Saban.

I’d think about adding Texas and Michigan to the worst. They have inverted relationships with Oklahoma and Ohio St and have been on the short end more often than not over the past 20 years or so.
