College Football Official Week 6 Thread
#3 Clemson v. Boston College - Friday, 7:30
#19 Boise St. v. New Mexico - Friday, 9 PM Iowa v. Minnesota - Noon Maryland v. Penn St. - Noon Texas v. #20 Oklahoma - Noon LSU v. #18 Florida - Noon #6 Houston v. Navy - 3 PM Indiana v. #2 Ohio St. - 3:30 #25 Va. Tech v. #17 UNC - 3:30 #9 Tennessee v. #8 Texas A&M - 3:30 #21 Colorado v. USC - 4 PM #1 Alabama v. #16 Arkansas - 7 PM #5 Washington v. Oregon - 7:30 #23 Florida St. v. #10 Miami - 8 PM Clemson tries to keep rolling, but visiting BC on a short week will be tough. BC is not good, but Clemson has never won big there, so I expect a close game. Maryland tries to stay unbeaten at Penn St. Red River Shootout may well determine Charlie Strong's fate. Indiana tries to keep up momentum, they have played Ohio State tough in recent years. One top-25 ACC showdown may help determine the Coastal champion, as well as Miami trying to hand FSU its 3rd loss. Will Tennessee's miracle run end in College Station? Alabama hits the meat of its schedule. Oregon tries to avoid going 2-4 vs. visiting Washington. Letdown alert for the Huskies.

LSU-Florida game cancelled because of Hurricane Matthew. Won't be rescheduled.
edit: It was LSU who originally said the game wouldn't happen at all. Now everyone is in line that it will be made up if possible. No common open dates but they both share a bought game date in November. Last edited by Logan : 10-06-2016 at 03:05 PM. |

Considering the Huskies are on a 12-game losing streak to our most hated rivals, I don't think a letdown is really in the cards. The Ducks are certainly capable of winning, but if they do I really don't think it will be because the Huskies overlooked them or didn't prepare hard.

Yeah, both should pay out their intended victims (who could then play each other) and then get the conference business taken care of.
Not playing it sounds utterly ridiculous.

Iowa playing for Floyd of Rosedale. This is the best trophy in all of sports in my humble opinion.
I hope we get things tiurned around. A loss here almost guarantees a 4-8 season.

Yeah, but it'll save the SEC a loss.

It'd cost LSU $5.5 million (home vs. road game, + $1.5 million buy out of So. Alabama) and LSU would finish @ Ark, @UF , and @A&M on that Friday I'd tell Foley to blow himself for taking until the last minute to cancel it anyway. |

How is 2 days prior "the last minute"? I ain't got no love for either school but you don't cancel a football game until you have no other recourse (for reasons like we're seeing here). AFAIC they either work it out and play it or declare it a double forfeit. No chance in hell either deserves standings help for not playing a game they could easily lose.

Their schedule should be like that anyways. Playing teams like South Alabama and Presbyterian that late in the season is BS. Last edited by CrescentMoonie : 10-06-2016 at 10:33 PM. |

Agreed. If Florida won the East having 1 loss to Tennessee's two (for instance) and they never played this game, I think many heads will explode. |

They could have done what LSU and South Carolina did last year. Game in Baton Rouge, but South Carolina got the money. Whoops.

Georgia and South Carolina moved to Sunday giving us the true test of football ratings in the South. (Not really as this game is buried on the SECN.)

Notre Dame-NC St is worse rain and weather than the Clemson game last year.

What is Notre Dame doing? Kiser had not looked comfortable throwing all day, so instead of bringing in Zaire or trying to run... The answer is throw some more and hope it works eventually.
Makes no sense. Worst example of situationally deaf coaching I can recall.

I don't think Zaire is the answer, but Kizer is also overrated at this point. He has tools, but the talk of him as potential first overall pick is laughable. Terrible ball security, poor pocket awareness, not even that accurate when standing in the pocket, 2nd best QB on the roster (though I hope they don't burn Wimbush's redshirt. Again.)

I don't know how ND doesn't have to make a coaching change at this point.

TCU leads 24-23 over Kansas with :06 left. Kansas converted a 4th and 21 on the final drive. Kansas sets up for a 54 yard FG to win, TCU calls two timeouts to ice the kicker, and the FG is long enough but wide right.

Under 2:30, tie game, 4th & 1 from our own 34. In his infinite wisdom CPJ goes for it, running at the guy they haven't blocked at day. Get stopped. Pitt quickly inside the 20, setting up now for a game-winning FG try.

There's the 37-34 Pitt win.
And now the standard CPJ throws players under the bus press conference will almost certainly follow.

So the A&M player lowered his head to tackle on the punt return, hit the Tennessee player helmet to facemask, knocked the Tennessee player out, and is praised for causing a fumble. I think announcers are as clueless about concussion dangers as the leagues/conferences are.

Navy & Houston tied at 20 at halftime
But with stat lines like the one currently on ESPN, I'd think Navy should be doing even better Navy Rushing CAR YDS TD LONG W. Worth 19 197 1 140 (yes, they have his long run as being 140 yards. And per ESPN gamecast, Navy has 839 yards rushing in the first half)

Indiana continues to insist on these long developing handoffs and screens against the fastest defense in the country. Smart.

Conservative offensive playcalling sinking an Indiana defense that is playing pretty decent.

Hoosiers hit a screen finally and it led to a TD, but they gave up a long return on the kickoff to essentially wipeout all that good work.

At some point, you have to play like you think you can win, not like you expect to lose and just want to keep it close.

Great block on the UT punt return, naturally it's flagged.
If that play is illegal (and by rule these days it may very well be) then it's really just time to go to two hand touch or flag football or something less strenuous. The rules (and never ending replay) are rapidly turning even college football into a sad ghost of what used to be pretty fun to watch.

And all the three-footed rabbits in Tennessee hide in fear for their lives after yet another debacle level half by the Vols.
