Exclamation Trading Rules For Next Season And Beyond.

  • Unlimited draft pick trades.
  • No more than one player may *leave* your roster via trade.
  • Unlimited players may be *acquired* via trade. (In other words, if you want to dump all your draft picks in trades with 21 different teams, have at it.)
  • No player signed to a new contract in the current year may be traded.
Rule #2 can be easily checked via code. I've already written the query for it, and will set up a page where you can just go and check if you've traded someone away. Here are the results for this season.

teamid cityname players traded away
0 Arizona 2
1 Atlanta 6
2 Baltimore 11
3 Buffalo 3
5 Chicago 2
6 Cincinnati 4
8 Denver 12
9 Detroit 4
10 Green Bay 1
12 Jacksonville 5
15 Minnesota 6
18 New York 3
20 Oakland 1
21 Philadelphia 3
22 Pittsburgh 1
23 San Diego 2

Sounds perfect. I think this league is going to be one where the offseason is almost as anticipated as the regular season.

contract laundering was a black eye, and gladly will be avoided in the future.

Honestly, I'm just bitter I didn't think of it myself.

And there is always room to limit renegotiations going forward, if it becomes apparent we'll be fighting over 45/45 guys each offseason in FA. Will take some time to play itself out though.

We can discuss it, but I haven't seen many people besides you who are interested in doing that.

Yeah. Just the standard one, unless Steve's idea gets some legs.

The NFL trade deadline is 2 weeks later than FOF's. So, to say the FOF one is the same as the NFL one, just isn't true.

Because it allows for 'player laundering', which is lame.

I wouldn't mind if it was a few weeks later for this season only.

I could see moving the trade deadline to week 6 or 7 for this reason.

"The National Football League's deadline is the Tuesday following the sixth week of the regular season"

I guess I dont buy the "player Laundering". Since the game is turn based and not on a real time schedule, things like signing 2 great SSs can happen. I cant stop from getting 2 like I could in real life. So I would be stuck with 2 great SSs while another team who needs one is begging to trade for one.
Also, isnt a cap hit a good penalty?
And what if the FA I signed starts stinking up the joint and I have a better alternative? Why cant I trade my player.

I don't think you know what player laundering is.
Team signs guy to massive one year offer, trades player to another team with a massive one year guy. Then they trade back, and each original team can then sign their players to longer term deals.

Sure it's a healthy hit on cap year #1, but going forward it's good players on the cheapz.

That's like refusing to allow the girl who just had lipo, a boob job, butt and calf implants, collagen injections and a chin implant to put on lipstick.

Pushing the trade deadline back 3 weeks in the only season we'll be allowed to make any sort of trade is crossing the line?

Agreed. Might as well extend things for right now. I probably won't make any trades so it doesn't effect me, but I can see how extending it could help some guys.

Week 5 is Friday, extending it another week or two this season means guys can have the weekend to look things over, maybe get a deal done, have it all out of their system.

Never even thought of doing this. Interesting scheme and definitely not a good thing.
But what about my scenario? What if it is a legit situation? Now im being penalized because some people like to push the envelope of fair play.

Keep in mind that I would have strongly supported trade limitations THIS season.

I'm just not in favor of extending this madness any further than we have to at this point.

It already happened in this league.

See the Chicago-Arizona trades in the trade forum.

I wouldn't be too upset about it tarcone. I wouldn't have done it if it was against the rules.

The sheer brilliance of it is undeniable, of course.

I am totally ready to outlaw it now though.
