I'm pretty sure at this point, the Dodgers aren't going to win another game this year. Geez, I get regression to the mean, but holy fuck.

A Dodgers loss tonight would bring the Nats within 6 of the 1 seed in the NL. I'd rather face the Cubs than Diamondbacks, so hopefully LA gets its act together soon.

First inside-the-park grand slam in baseball since September of 2015 when Aaron Altherr got one...a ball misplayed by Michael A. Taylor.

It should be a triple with an error. Taylor was nailed at home

I was at the Mets/Reds game tonight and there was a t-shirt giveaway. A guy in the bathroom dropped his shirt in the urinal, but karma paid him back in the sixth inning when he caught a foul ball.

There are so many interesting things with the Dodgers season. They're a team that was on pace to win 116 games as late as August 25th. They had outscored their opponents by 223 runs at that point and had a 14.5 game lead on the best record in the NL (21 in their division).

They've inexplicably gone 1-15 since that date and the Indians, who had the 5th best record in baseball on the 25th of August, haven't lost a game. And they're still 6 games behind the Dodgers for the best record in baseball. Meanwhile, Arizona has gone 13-2 in that time and managed to cut the Dodgers lead in the NL West to only 9 games.

And the Nationals are only 4 games behind the Dodgers for best record in the NL and clinched a playoff spot first.

The Nats can face the D-Backs at this point. I'd rather be done with them. And clinching the division doesn't mean much when the second place team in that division is 7 games under .500

Dodgers longest losing streak since leaving Brooklyn. They're now one of 4 teams in history to have a streak of 14 wins in 15 games and 14 losses in 15 games during a single season. 3.5 game lead over the Nats for the best record in baseball and they play in DC this weekend.

Saw the 2018 schedule. Once again MLB does not schedule Anaheim to come to St. Louis. What a missed opporunity.

Why is it a missed opportunity? If the fans want Pujols, they can pressure the FO to acquire him for next to nothing

Nah. Too expensive for St Louis.
But a visit would be awesome.

St Louis is going to spend big bucks on some FAs this offseason.

I'm a Braves fan, but is there any reason to leave Sczerzer (sp?) out there for 120 pitches?

Literally braindead manager. Scherzer threw 300+ more pitches than any starter last year and is on pace to come close to that again this year. The worst part was running him out there to start the inning with 97 pitches, in a completely meaningless game, and not having anyone warming up in the bullpen until after his 2nd walk of the inning. A special needs toddler could do a better job handling pitchers.

And it's not like he was close anyway, everything was wild high and away, over and over. It's baffling how baseball people just ignore how awful Baker is at the job he keeps getting hired to do.

Max Scherzer hadn't been on the DL since 2009, but somehow he ends up there with a neck issue this season that he claims was because he slept wrong on a pillow. There's nobody Duhsty can't ruin.

120 pitches and 7 earned runs is a terrible job then. Max arguably isn't even the best Cy Young candidate on the Nats roster right now. Strasburg is nearly unhitable and has a 34 inning scoreless streak.

Good time to rebound, let's hope they can find some magic against Strasburg tomorrow.

The Nats signaled their lack of interest in the #1 spot in the NL going to a 6 man rotation and running Jackson and Cole out there on the mound. Still nearly pulled the game out today.

You're kidding yourself if you think the switch to a 6 man rotation that gave the Dodgers the 5 and 6 starters wasn't a signal that they weren't actually trying. They've locked up their playoff spot and that's really all that mattered.

Did they both play the backups or what? If not they both probably had intentions of winning the games just saving their pitching for "the big picture". Id certainly hope they both are trying to win games at this point or going two weeks without trying doesnt bode well for them in the playoffs.

AL MVP should be interesting. Altuve leads in WAR with Kluber and Judge close behind. Trout leads in a lot of the sabr stats. Judge has been taking lately and leads the league in Walks, Homers, Runs and Strikeouts. Seems realistic that you could make a case for any of the 4 guys. I think I lean Kluber even though he missed a few starts. He's throwing up some video game type stats.

Gotta figure it's Altuve.

I don't see a pitcher finishing better than 3rd this time tbh.

Judge is going to have @330 plate appearances that end with a BB or K.

That's amazing.

Fwiw even with his typical late season slide Chris Sale still has 1 WAR more than any other player this year. (Though I still think the MVP is Altuve's.)
