OT: Day After Thanksgiving Bargains
I am not a big shopper. I have, however, gotten up before the break of dawn for the early bird specials on the day after Thanksgiving for the last few years. Last year my brother and I went to Best Buy, CompUSA, and Circuit City, bought a combined 600 dollars (before rebates), 200 dollars (after rebates) and were home by 8.
This year, with great anticipation, I open up the circulars and find... nothing. I mean sure there are a couple good deals, mostly on DVDs, but nothing worth losing the day to sleep in. It is, to say the least, a bit of a disappointment for me. Anyone have similar/different experinces this year? |

Tower records has some great CD deals going for 5 hours today (5p-10P) and then tomorrow (until 1pm). A lot of brand new releases are 9.99, and they have ton of cd's for 5.99 (some good ones too, London Calling by the Clash for instance).
I'm not trekking out to the store, but supposedly the same deals will be available online. I'll probably order the new re-mixed/re-mastered version of the Beatles Let it Be. |

Try FatWallet for the best deals. Of course, they usually put the big ticket items up there.

yeah, but fatwallet spent a lot of time and effort finding the choicest items to put on their list.
(it also earned them a DMCA lawsuit by Circuit City, which tried to silence them, which I STILL don't understand)

THe money saved on Day After Thanksgiving bargains is used in maintaining your car for all of the hours you will be sitting in traffic (gas, oil, etc).

I work at GI Joes and we are selling a 280 dollar paintball gun package for 140. The sale only lasts one day. We are also selling the Columbia Challenge jacket for 89 bucks. That's a sale of 100 dollars.

I only wanted a few measely little things, but they didn't have the correct stores in the area I was in for the important ones, and by the time I got back to Madison this afternoon, Circuit City and Office Depot were out of the couple of things I wanted. What the hell did I start shopping at 5:00 AM for?? Wal-Mart still had plenty of $80 Gamecube's with the Zelda CD, but I couldn't convince myself to buy it.

Just watched "Bruce Almighty" on our new DVD/VCR combo. Actually, I'm quite surprise at how easy it was to get into Walmart, get what I want, and get out.

HA! Come to a Wal-Mart down here! NO ONE has ever seen anything like it, i would bet! Pick any normal weekend and there is more people in the McAllen Wal-Mart then any of the ones up north (thats everywhere else in this country) did today. We have this little thing called Mexico and all those crazy bastards flood our stores and take it all back to Mexico with them......places are always packed, its insane i'm telling you!

Well 4:45am in front of Fry's here is Houston was mighty cold, but I got what I wanted. You'd think in a town that only has about 10 days of cold weather, the day after Thanksgiving would probably be mild. Thanksgiving I had the A/C on for petes sake. But nooooo, the two day afters I've had in Houston have been colder than seems possible. Anyway, got my set top DVD+R/RW for half off, so I'm happy. NO MORE VIDEO TAPES!!!!
Oh and the line out at the store was impossibly silly. We got there and it was right around the corner of the front of the building. By the time 6am rolled around, there were approximately 700-800 people lined up behind me.....insane.

Boycott Wallmart. Low prices are great, but they come at a cost and it's not worth the harm they cause both here and in third world countries.

You know.. you can actually stick it to walmart.. they usually put out new release dvd's way in advance of street date.. and each sale gets them fined.. I usually do my dvd shopping at walmart

we had a decent office max ad here.
i got $250 worth of stuff for $0 after rebates got a 52-24-52x cd burner, 256 mb ddr ram, 100 blank cd's, 100 jewel cases, a new optical mouse, surge protector, and a cd carrying case woohoo! i got there at 6am, they opened at 7am and i was first in line. they didn't have too many cd burners or ram so i was glad i got there early. walmart was frickin mobbed here but i refuse to go there unless it's absolutely nescessary and it wasn't. office max was the only place here with a good ad, got some cd's and dvd's at media play before noon as they had a good sale but nothing spectacular. |

You could say this about MANY, MANY corporations... probably some you didn't even know about. Considering a Wal-Mart is all we have here in Troy for electronics, it's an easy decision for me. Todd |

Yes indeed you can say it about many, even most, companies now days. Do you own anything Frigidaire or Whirlpool? You could say that about them. This i know because my company provides the electric motors for those companies to put in thier appliances. And being that i live on the mexican border i'm sure you can guess where most of our plants have moved to.......Mexico, not to mention Asia is the new destination for a lot of plants. And our stuff ranges from electrical outlet boxes to huge electric motors to power tools. They get a little piece from here, another piece from there, put it all together and you have your new washer and dryer, or your new electric drill, or the A/C that pumps cool air into office builing or home.........you can't get away from it today, and find it hard to believe any product is completely "made in america" unless its something pretty simple.

My mom asked if I could go to Best Buy and pick up the $200 E-machines for my sister. I got there at 4:15, and there were about 30 people in front of me. By the time it opened, people were lined up along the road about 1/4 mile long. People tried to stand in the parking area to sneak into the front of the line, but Best Buy sent people out there and they wouldn't let people in unless they were in the line.
Well, I was in and out in 30 minutes. Got my sister the $200 computer (a decent computer, 2.6 ghz celeron, 80 gb hd, 256 mb ram, cd-rw/dvd, ethernet&modem, but no agp, not that she needs it), and a $50 monitor (the one packaged with it was $100, but they had another with rebate and the same size?). Got 100 cd's for free as a gift for my other sister. They even set up the copmputer and I was still out in 30 minutes. Then went to EBgames and picked up GTA:VC for $10. I even found a close space at the mall (but parked on the wrong side). After I got to the store, it took like a minute to get it and get out. Finally, I went to Toys R Us, where I waited in line for like an hour just to pick up Sleeping Beauty and the Lion King for my girlfriend. All in all, it wasn't really bad. The Toys R Us line pissed me off, but the rest really wasn't as bad as it could have been. I'm just glad BB passed out vouchers to those of us in line to make sure we got the things we came for. I would have been pissed if someone ran in and grabbed the computer, since it seemed like everyone just grabbed a salesperson. I just better get my home theater system for Christmas since I waited in line all morning (Phillips has a 600 watt system online for $200). |

I was thinking of going there and am now glad I did not. Then again, my parents veto'd the idea and since I was at the mercy of their vehicles, having flown to Houston from KC, I didn't really have much of a say. I already have a DVD burner but I wanted to get in on a couple of things like the beautiful $10 computer case they had, $50 James Bond collection DVDs, and $35 Mario Kart. SI
