The Puzzle Thread (nee Enigma Puzzle #24)

Magnificent Offspring Offspring
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss!
Golden Gate next for Donald?
Kiss hug hug!
It's been 13 years, Elizabeth.
Kiss!
A nickname for the young John?
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss!
If he could only get his hands on the oil money...
Kiss!
Can't you hear his heart beat?
Kiss kiss!
Blue eyed, dressed for any situation
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss!
Personified by Music
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss!
After killing him, the illegitimates might write this.
Kiss hug hug!
Nickname by Funkytown?
Kiss hug hug kiss kiss!
Very sinister, Mr. Astin.
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss!
Griffith series down south, but not the obvious.
Kiss hug hug kiss kiss!
Womanly ideal of Roosevelt's heyday.
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss!
Norman's bathroom scene only slightly more shocking than one here.

Let love be your guide
To decipher and string together
The clues to find your key.
What has been written here is of utmost importance
For the first word of what you then find
Will ultimately unlock the puzzle.

Kisses and hugs could also add up to dots and dashes for morse code. Longshot, though... just struck me as a possibility.

I think the Kiss Kiss lines are to placed in some order, which would give you the correct order of the clues, like "Kiss!" clues are first.

Dola-

On another note....

"Its been 13 years, Elizabeth", I believe is referring to Elizabeth Taylor's 8th marriage to Larry Fortensky, which when I google 1991 and Elizabeth, gives me this info which happened on October 6th 1991.

Andy Griffith series?

Andy Griffith series?

It's probably Matlock (instead of the obvious Andy Griffith show).

Normans bathroom scene line though seems to be comparing to something else. As in, that Psycho scene is more shocking than the one the hint is suggesting at.

Personified by Music? I was thinking Prince, but Madonna is a good call too.

A very sinister Mr. Astin?

What movies has he been in? Lord of the Rings, Rudy, the one with Pauly Shore and Brendan Fraser? Is there another Astin? Unless it has something to do with one of his movie characters, like a play on words or something. Not sure how that would fit Samwise.

Yeah, I figured that's what the clue was heading to but I figure I point out the Psycho reference for those that didn't know.

Don't know any memorable shower scenes besides Psycho.

Maybe Poltergeist? (guy rips his face off)

Astin could very well be John Astin, Sean Astin's father. He is also known as Gomez of the Addams Family.

Sean Astin is John Astin and Patty Duke Astin's son.

This should not mean that the puzzle can not at least be worked on. There are many things that can be accomplished short of arriving at a password.

Ok...going by the latest clue, could we express the various kiss/hug combos as:

Kiss kiss, hug, kiss! - XXOX
Kiss hug hug! - XOO
Kiss! - X
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss! - XXOX
Kiss! - X
Kiss kiss! - XX
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss! - XXOX
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss! - XXOX
Kiss hug hug! - XOO
Kiss hug hug kiss kiss! - XOOXX
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss! - XXOX
Kiss hug hug kiss kiss! - XOOXX
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss! - XXOX

That's as far as I got as well. I'm guessing once we have the answers to the clues the x's and o's will be something of a key to sorting out the rest of the puzzle.

Also worth noting are the use of commas in the kiss kiss lines. they are always consistant.

Kiss kiss, hug, kiss! is used 6 times, and it's always kiss kiss, hug, kiss! ... never a different comma placement. Same with all the others which are all repeated at least once except for kiss kiss!

I have no idea what that means but I have a feeling the comma usage is going to be important and shouldn't get lost in the XOXX guesses.

Also, there is no kiss kiss after the last clue, so there isn't a 1-1 correlation of clues to kiss kiss xoxo hints, which stands out to me.

Here's a collection from all the ideas up to this point:

Magnificent Offspring Offspring
Golden Gate next for Donald?
It's been 13 years, Elizabeth. - elizabeth taylor's last marriage to Larry Fortensky
A nickname for the young John? - Jack
If he could only get his hands on the oil money...
Can't you hear his heart beat?
Blue eyed, dressed for any situation
Personified by Music - Madonna, Prince both suggested
After killing him, the illegitimates might write this.
Nickname by Funkytown?
Very sinister, Mr. Astin. - Sean Astin/John Astin(Gomez on the adams family) reference in there somewhere
Griffith series down south, but not the obvious. - Matlock
Womanly ideal of Roosevelt's heyday.
Norman's bathroom scene only slightly more shocking than one here. - Fatal Attraction? Comparing Psycho to some other movie

I'm wondering about the exclamation points - any thoughts on those?

I also played around with the X/0 thing numerically (X = 10 or XX = 20 in Roman numerals), but got nowhere.

One thing that I noticed about the X's and O's is that all of them started with X's; there also seems to be a limited set of them, and most of them are repeated.

"Can't you hear his heart beat?"

Reference to the Tell Tale Heart by E.A. Poe?

"Golden Gate next for Donald?"

Golden Gate synonymous with San Francisco? When I think of Donald, I think of Donald Trump. Donald Duck another possibility.

"If he could only get his hands on the oil money..."

Seems to be a reference to Iraq. Perhaps Bush or some other political figure?

I dunno...the last one seems a little too politically charged to be Bush. Who else has oil money that someone was/is interested in?

The Golden Gate clue would seem to go along well with Trump, considering his dabblings in real estate. Why the Golden Gate though?

If these are binary numbers, then you'd have:

Kiss kiss, hug, kiss! - XXOX = 13
Kiss hug hug! - XOO = 4
Kiss! - X =1
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss! - XXOX = 13
Kiss! - X = 1
Kiss kiss! - XX =3
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss! - XXOX =13
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss! - XXOX = 13
Kiss hug hug! - XOO =4
Kiss hug hug kiss kiss! - XOOXX = 19
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss! - XXOX = 13
Kiss hug hug kiss kiss! - XOOXX = 19
Kiss kiss, hug, kiss! - XXOX = 13

And I see no pattern or sense in there... I think that's no good.

A good deduction based on them all starting with X... It doesn't make any more sense now than before though, could it perhaps after we've solved the individual clues, I wouldn't scrap the idea just yet.

I don't know what to make with the first link (a splinter group from The Offspring? Just the name Splinter?)...

But the most notable names on the IMDB link include:
Bill & Hillary Clinton - wedding anniversary (1975)

And yet something tells me that isn't what we're looking for...

Marlon Brando?
Allyson Hannigan?
Brian DePalma?
Joan Crawford?
Eleanor Roosevelt? (There's an oblique connection there, but I can't make it fit)

...grasping at straws here... don't see any logical connection to Elizabeth or 13 years, so maybe it's for another clue entirely.

Derek Lowe is on that list of birthdays.

Also, each line has no more than three x's. Strikes, perhaps?

That's a strange assembly of patterns -- certainly not random. The repeated presence of XXOX is especially strange, and perhaps the placement of commas is somehow important. In any event -- it's not some simple sequence key or soemthing, too much repetition.

It's not that Derek lowe, which is not to rule it out as a clue.

The X=strike is an intriguing idea, but I don't have any idea how to go anywhere with it.

Splinter would make sense as an "Offspring Offspring" (if you think as something they produced as an offspring) - I can buy that. What's magnificent about it though? Magnificent Splinter?

Nope. Redd Foxx

On Sanford and Son he would always say "I'm coming Elizabeth" while holding his heart as if he were having a heart attack. He died in 1991. If my math is correct, that would be 13 years ago.
