I've heard 10 times worse at a college football game or basketball game, and there's not a reaction like this. This is just another instance of people who NEED to be insulted over something.

I never thought I would see a USA chant be vilified by another group of Americans and have people like you justify it.

We all thought it was clever at the time but I found out later they heard it all the time.

We always had "Old MacDonald" sung at us during warmups when we played a team from the metropolis of Lima, Ohio. I always wondered what it was like for those kids to go out to the outside world and have their self perception ruined when everyone else considered them hicks because they were from Lima.

Yea, I think my school was pretty offensive. I'm from Celina (ring a bell?) and once a year we would play Lima Senior. Being from a rural town every time they came to town it could get a little sketchy at times

I'm from Spencerville (or Spencer-tucky as we were often chanted at) so I know Celina very well. It was LCC students that used to sing "Old MacDonald" at us. It was so much fun, it's a great area for high school sports.

I saw this conversation on FOX News last night. If fucking Dana Perino agrees that the chant was out of bounds in this context, I don't really understand the tonedeafness of folks who think this wasn't inappropriate.

Another +1 for Cartman.

It was the use of USA chant essentially against a bunch of American Citizens. These fans weren't cheering about America, they were Cheering that a bunch of kids of Mexican descent lost a game to an "American" team. Which was not comprised of players of Mexican descent. It can't be spelled out any more clearly than that. I'm about as against all things politically correct as you can get, but this isn't part of that fight.

This was on Fox News earlier today, with the very same headline used to start this thread. I'm sure the intent there was pretty clear.

Nothing more American than trying to denigrate your neighbors for their racial ancestry! Amirite??!! Oh wait, is that what they were doing? No, that's just shitty.

I'd be concerned if the board reaction here was in line with Yahoo article comments.

The rabid patriotism of Alamo Heights fan base wasn't enough to get them to the state championship game. They fell in the semifinals to Dallas Kimball, 47-43.

Five*from USM pep band disciplined - NCAA Basketball - SI.com

Btw, a more explicit example here - where's your "green card"? Really? Props to USM for acting on it. Its one of the reasons that this stuff is completely beyond the pale here, yet a little too common in Europe in soccer stadiums for example.

There was another incident of "innocent" racism at a basketball game in Texas. Here is Dale Hansen's, a longtime sports anchor in DFW, response.

I theorize that 90% of all internet garbage and hatred is generated by the 10% of the population with behavioral issues. Or teenagers.
