Who's the most famous person you know personally?
By personally, I mean "if you saw you someplace without a ton of people, they'd recognize you and seek you out, to talk about old times."
I don't really know..so I was trying to figure it out for myself. They don't have to be TV famous per se, famous these days is just a sliding scale anyway. |

Well, I don't know about seek me out. But these are a couple that might be recognized who I have interacted with in the past.
Jeff Devlin - One of the hosts of HGTV's Spice Up My Kitchen. Was in my high school class, and we hung around with some of the same people. His brother is pretty good friends with my brother too. Mike Frederick - graduated the year before I did, had a short NFL career with the Browns/Ravens/Titans. Had a study hall with him. He once convinced me to eat carnation petals. James Franklin - again, graduated the year before I did, was the QB my soph and junior years (I started mid-way as a Jr). Currently the OC and HC-in-waiting at Maryland. Lillie Shockney - cancer survivor and the Administrative Director of the Johns Hopkins Breast Cancer Center. She's been on tv a number of times, has been published, and has helped a great number of people in dealing with breast cancer. I worked with her for a number of years developing the center's web site. Those are the ones that immediately come to mind. Again, they might not all recognize me and fame is relative here, but that's about the best I can do I think.

Letizia Moratti - She was one of the investors for the company I used to work for when I was in Italy. She allowed us to share her office space. While I was over there, she was the Minister of Education for Italy, and she is currently the Mayor of Milan. Her brother in law owns Inter Milan.
And, of course, more recently is my new neighbor, Tom Cochrane.

I know a local rapper personally, he might be ready to make it big sometime in the near future.
I know a couple of NFL players personally as well and a lot of former Hurricane players.

Probably Fred Willard, though I haven't lived in Santa Monica forever. We used to play softball together on Saturdays. He was one of my comedic heroes, and I remember meeting him for the first time...he asked me to warm him up. So we're throwing, and he was talking about a guy who used to be part of the game we were at (weekly pickup game) who just passed away, and how young he was. He was talking about how sobering his friend's passing was. It was very, very surreal.
He was just one of the guys, would go out for drinks afterwards and never consider his celebrity status. He drove a 70s car...definitely nothing you would expect from someone as successful as he. Really, really cool dude. |

Carl Linder- former owner of the Reds, really nice and humble guy for a billionaire.
Paul O'Neil- Duh. Pretty quite guy, loves to talk baseball Chris Sabo- somewhat cocky but still nice. Is really into golf Thom Brenneman- Not nearly as cocky as you would think, hearing him and his dad banter is pretty funny. Bill Cunningham- Local Cincinnati radio celebrity who also appears on Hannity and Combs. |

I guess Lee Scott (Wal-Mart CEO) since I knew his son in high school and met him on several occassions. I can't think of anyone more people here would recognize the name of than him.

Not personally, no. He came to my church one time out of the blue. Closest I ever got. I guess I could name some athletes that I had class with, but none of them would recognize me today. I talked to Corliss Williamson for about 5 minutes one day while waiting on a really slow elevator after a class. |

Paul Meany, lead singer for Mute Math. Was buddies with him in high school. I'd actually never heard of Mute Math, but they were on the Tonight Show a few weeks ago so I assume they must be fairly successful.

Does the person have to be alive? If not, I knew Eric Show of the Padres back in the 80s and my dad used to go bowling with Rollie Fingers, Bruce Bochy, Randy Jones and a few other former Padres.
Oh, we also knew Gene Tenace, but, neither my dad or myself have talked to him in at least 20 years I'd guess.

Marty Hurney - Panthers GM. We used to do some work together when I worked for a company that did a ton of advertising with the Panthers, after I left and went out on my own my schedule change and found out we work out at the same gym and often see each other. We now email nearly daily and I even gave him a copy of FOF....
Tommy Bowden- Not a bigshock, any Clemson celeb falls into this category with my involvement with the school, but I have had dinner with the Bowden's on a few occaisons and my wife and his remain good friends. Deceased now but Dale Earnhardt was another one. I got to go on a duck hunting trip through a friend of a friend, and we just hit it off. Afterwards he invited me (sans the guy who invited me initially who I later learned he really didnt like at all, just tolerated to get to deer hunt his family's land) 3 times and had a trip planned to go offshore fishing when he passed. |

Joel "The Quintessial Studmuffin" Gertner, of ECW fame: He was sports director at college radio station when I started. I guess you can say he was my first boss.
Keith Olbermann: Definitely doesn't remember me at all, but he came back and visited the radio station a few times (he was sports/news director in late '70s) and we had a few talks. |

I took a media class with Keyshawn Johnson, and we worked on a project together but I doubt he would remember me.
In the sports world, it is Darian Barnes. We were childhood friends and he has played backup FB for a variety of teams over the years including most recently the Saints which allowed us to hang out again. In the world of academia, I'm friends with a few big names in academic psychiatry but they aren't well known outside of that realm so I don't think they would count as famous.

When I first moved to Santa Monica, I lived in the same condo complex as The Rock and Jaleel White (Urkel). My then-gf-turned-exwife and I were moving our stuff into her cousin's condo as we were staying there until we found our own place (moved to CA from PA). I was bringing in a bunch of stuff on one of those little trolley things, when I passed this guy wearing a Donovan McNabb Football Camp t-shirt. He said "Sup kid?" I didn't think anything of it. While I was inside, Em was putting stuff in the next cart. The way the condo parking worked out is that you went under the little roof through the driveway to go into the garage. But when you came out, you came out before the roof. The Rock (I am assuming) had not fully moved out there yet, as he was just starting one of the Mummy movies (I'm not sure which one...this was June 2002), so he was staying at this condo. He pulled out of the garage, which Em didn't notice, and came up behind her. He honked his horn (she said it wasn't done in a mean way), and then excused himself. He smiled at her as he went by, and she needed a cigarette. Apparently Urkel and Rock had a small conversation before they went on their way, which is how Em found out it was Urkel (I had no idea). Then we found out from her cousin that they both live there. Now, this was my first full day in Santa Monica. I had thought that this would be the norm, and it would be totally awesome. I was incredibly wrong. |

I have known now ex-President Bush since 1990. I came very close to going to work for him when he ran for Gov. He always calls me Colonel.
Didn't agree with many of his choices in office, but he is not the Satan people seem to think he is. It is easy to put people in clean categories.
