You can legally marry people if you take 5 minutes out of your day
This is crazy......... my brother's friend is now Reverend Dave according to this. He is going to get cards that say it and everything. He is talking about trying to get people married when they are drunk.
http://www.ulc.net/ - Universal Life Church Right there on the top tab is Become Ordained. It takes like 5 minutes. I probably won't do it, but it's kinda funny to think if I took 5 minutes in 2-3 business days I could officially wed people and do baptisms. Last edited by korme : 06-30-2005 at 04:24 AM. |

Welcome to 1998.
Also, it's not legal here--don't know about other states.

Also, the "Universal Life Church" has been around for decades. Apparently they used to advertise for mail-order ordainment in magazines years ago.

In the state of Alaska, you don't even need to do that. Just some paperwork at the courthouse when the couple applies for a marriage license, and anyone can wed people.

This reminds me of the recent episode of the Simpsons where Homer became ordained on the Internet and started marrying people. His sign?
The Church of Matri-Money will now marry anyone to anything (Diaper fee for chimp brides) |

Reminds me of a Sanford and Son episode(i think). Fred got ordained by this weird church, and they ended up trying to take all his money.

I do this a side thing--mostly 2nd (or 3rd marriages) or young kids with no church affliation.

I am a ULC minister(a birthday gift!). My understanding is that no state can refuse me a marriage license, but that I would have to pay whatever fee they set. My guess is that's why a license to marry costs several hundred dollars in the states I've checked.
