NYCW - Passing the Torch - TEW 2010

It was a typically frigid New York afternoon as the swirling snow danced eerily in the howling wind outside the dirty wood framed window. A large, hulking man stared solemnly at the gray sky and the snow covered streets below.

“You really think you are ready for this?”

Me: “I have been ready and waiting for this for a long time Uncle Derek…..I think the true question is, are you ready?”

Slowly he turned to face his eager nephew, a look of consternation on his face. Even at 60 Derek Bradford, aka The Stomper, was an imposing figure. Not prone to long outbursts of laughter or any mirth for that matter, he was a proud, driven man. Tough but fair and loyal to those that understood what it meant, he was rooted deeply in tradition and resistant to change. It was these qualities that earned him both respect and saw him mocked by some (never to his face) who called his New York City Wrestling promotion “The ring that time forgot” or “The fossil wrestling federation” along with other less endearing terms.

None of this was lost on his nephew Terry Bradford, who had around wrestling with his uncle since he was a teen, setting up the ring, officiating matches and even donning a mask to fill a thin spot on a card on occasion. All of these enjoyable and education experiences, but 17 years in what Terry longed for was the book and it was this desire that formed the centerpiece of this conversation. Black Hat Bailey had been the long time booker for NYCW, as well as the reigning Empire Champion, but he had grown tired of the role and it had begun to show. Bailey voluntarily gave up the book and had campaigned for the younger Bradford to take a greater role in the direction of the company, but that meant change, which scared The Stomper.

Stomper: “You know I don’t deal with change well at all, in fact I hate it! This damned business has become a filthy sandbox filled with Bums that think diving onto a pile of light bulbs or having two strippers tear each others clothes off is wrestling. Hell, I heard of this new promotion in Australia that is like a cartoon strip, everyone in a ridiculous looking mask. If I want a damn cartoon strip I will buy the Sunday paper!”

Me: (snickering)“No worries ‘mate’ I won’t be running any Ninja Turtle angles. Seriously though Uncle Derek, I think we do need to bring in some new blood.”

I cringed, waiting for inevitable “it’s not broke, don’t fix it” response, but it never came.

Stomper: “Well, spit it out, you know how I feel about some of this modern crap so don’t get radical, I want guys that fit my company, which is a wrestling company. That is what it says on the marquee you know.”

Yes I did know, I had heard that line 1,223 times…….this month

Me: “I understand, but we do need to ease a bit of the modern style in. Hell uncle Derek, look at our roster. Guys like Whistler and Black Hat, Flash and Lee Wright are all good workers, but they are all 40-50 years old. Old school is appreciated by our fans, but even they will get to the point where they don’t want to see a canes and walkers match between Black Hat and Whistler for the Empire title.”

Stomper: “Listen smartass, I know the boys can’t wrestle forever, that’s why you are here, because you know some of these younger bums a lot better than I do…I’m just telling you, bring me nutjobs or prima donnas more concerned with the color of their tights than how to apply a headlock and I’ll send all of you on a one way trip on Pelham 123!”

Me: “Your sending us to a movie?”

My attempt at humor only brought a cold stare and a muttered “damn kid, forgettaboutit.” as Uncle Derek turned to leave, pausing at the door.

Stomper: “You do what you need to do, but remember this. I built this company on tradition, respect and the legacy of when a wrestling match told a story. I’ll burn down our damn ring before I lie down and job my company to the crapfest some of these promotions put out. The name on the marquee is.."

Me: “Wrestling!”

Stomper: “At least I’ve taught you something! Ya bum.”

Uncle Derek gave me a wink as he slammed the door shut. I asked myself many times why he always did that, but Uncle Derek wouldn’t know subtle if it dented a chair over his head.

I spend a long night thinking about the roster and pondering what moves I wanted to make before our January show and at this point I know two things for sure. With 7 of our 16 wrestlers over the age of 40 we need some youth. I also want to get rid of both our current valets. Fern Hathaway is poison in the locker room and Cheerleader Nicki is just, well, a waste of space. I prepare their notices and jot down some names I am interested in hiring. At this point I want to bring in 4-6 more wrestlers and replacements for our two valets and I have to be careful. To piss off Uncle Derek is akin to pissing on the Devils toothbrush.

We meet again tomorrow to go over his “business” plan in more detail and I am sure he will help me define my limitations and expectations as only he can, so I will know more about how my plans fit into his vision then. Looking out the window I see the snow has returned with a vengeance and I have no interest of battling it in a Car that needs snow tires. So tonight, my bed is a lumpy couch, in a drafty legion hall in Brooklyn.

My blissful sleep came to an abrupt end as I hit the floor, followed by the couch landing on top of me. “What the hell, Earthquake!!” The laughter that resonated through the room dispelled that semi-comatose exclamation and I crawled out from under the couch to see Bo "Black Hat" Bailey and Uncle Derek standing above me. The laughter of course came from Bailey, who despite his menacing in-ring persona was quite laid back and slightly mischievous behind the scenes.

Black Hat: “Earthquake? Wake up ya sleepy Sonofabitch, you’re in dirty Brooklyn, not California. Derek, did you see his face right before that couch landed on him?”

Stomper: (Barely amused) “Yes I did, now let’s cut the crap and get down to business.”

We convened at our version of a conference table (an old wooden dinner table that never had all four legs on the ground at the same time) and Uncle Derek took out a piece of paper.

Stomper: “First off, you’re not going to be known as Terry Bradford, I don’t want the connection made between us and..”

Me: “Do you really think that will matter? I mean with dirt sheets and the internet and…”

Stomper: “Screw that and screw you for interrupting me! Don’t forget that this is my car and you are still learning to drive it. I want you to have your own identity and you’re going to be called Terry Twist, which will fit the persona I want you to have. A persona you shouldn’t have any trouble with since you’re always full of piss and vinegar anyway.”

Me: “So I am assuming you want me to be….”

Stomper: “Don’t assume squat. You are going to be the new Vice president of NYCW, with an ego bigger than…..Well bigger than even your real ego!”

Black Hat: “You’re being a little harsh Derek, Terry’s a good kid.”

Stomper: “Who’s Car?”

Black Hat and I together: “Your Car.”

Stomper: “Good, now here are my rules and they are not open to discussion. First off, this company will not fall into debt at any point! Number two, over the next two years I expect to have no drop in popularity. Finally, in terms of who you can hire I want workers with good psychology and some stamina. Simple as that, any questions?”

Me: “No sir, I think those are all fair. I do want to change a couple of the things we do backstage though. I know your only real rules are no smoking and no drugs, which is great. I would also like to organize transportation and accommodations for the boys, just to boost morale a bit.”

Stomper: “I could give a rat’s ass about that, as long as I’m not paying for anything. I ain’t hiring a secretary either, so shave your damn legs, cause your going to be the one making the calls.”

Me: “Understood Uncle Derek, anything else, because I really want to get started on brining in some new workers, I figured 4-6 total.”

Stomper: “Well don’t let us keep you, just remember my rules and also my checkbook!!”

Black Hat: (giggling) “Did you just make a joke Derek?”

Stomper: “Hell no!! That was a threat, now let’s go eat.”

As they left I wondered how my Uncle was so revered by our fans, because he could sure be a miserable Sonofabitch. But I loved him.

We had a show coming up in less than 2 weeks and I needed to get things moving quickly. Uncle Derek had already warned me about changing things too quick and the one thing you never wanted was a frown on his face.

I knew I wanted the valets gone and they had both been asked to come see me today. I expected no problems from Cheerleader Nicki, but Fern Hathaway had a well deserved attitude as a bitch and I had observed it many times first hand, while shadowing Black Hat over the last few months.

My first mission was to get some younger guys at the top of the card, but who? Grandmaster Phunk was someone I liked and before joining Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling had done a great job for us. He was a dynamic performer, but Uncle Derek had basically swapped him for our Tag Team Champions, The Ring Generals and I worried he would nix bringing him back. There was no doubt he would be well received, but my Uncle was huge on respect and would rightly feel that it would be a slap in the face to Mitch Naess to bring Phunk back, while still holding on to the two wrestlers he traded for him.

I had placed calls to a few guys, but so far only Roger Monteiro had signed on for the bargain price of $150.00 a show for 12 months. While I waited for the phone to ring, I turned my attention that classic PC diversion Mine Sweeper. About that time Uncle Derek arrived.

Stomper: "Good Morning Terry, what the hell are you doing?

Me: "Hi Uncle Derek, just clearing my head right now, lot of hooks in the in water, not many bites..."

Stomper: "I told you, don't get carried away, four or five guys and a new manager and you do have a budget to stick to!! Terry are you listening, what is this?" Uncle Derek is now behind me and sounding annoyed that Mine Sweeper is clearly dividing my focus.

Me: "Sorry, this is Mine Sweeper, its just a simple computer game and you try and clear all the Mines from the board before you get blown up, it's what I do when I need to refocus, you should try it.."

Stomper: "Forget about it, I have about as much use for computers as an Elephant has for a Volkswagon!"

Me: "What? That makes no sense Uncle Derek."

Stomper: "Of course it does, you ever seen an Elephant drive?"

Uncle Derek was a loveable, cantankerous sort, but some of his sayings came right out of left field, this being one.

Me: "I guess not, but anyway, I've got Monteiro on board and I am hoping to hear from a couple of bigger names this morning, notably Donnie J and Man Mountain Cahill,"

Stomper: "Now why, after all that whining you did about how old our wrestlers are, would you bring in Cahill?"

Me: "It would let me keep our current top guys strong, while I used him as a gatekeeper for the younger talent, better than jobbing out Whistler or Honest Frank."

Stomper: "Now that makes more sense than that stupid game you are playing. Oh, I have a couple more things that came to mind after our talk yesterday. I don't want any nut jobs working for us, too unpredictable and none of those high flying guys that are always flipping around. What the hell does Black Hat call them?.......Spot Monkeys!! None of them. If I want gymnastics I will go see the damn Circus. I'm going to go pick up our posters for 'Rush Hour' don't burn down the building while I'm gone."

Uncle Derek was gone for about 5 minutes when Cheerleader Nicki came through the door....

Nicki: "I am just so excited!"

Me: "And why is that Nicki?"

Nicki:
"Well...Fern called and said you noticed us and I was like, that's totally awesome, now, I love your Uncle, you know not like a boyfriend, but like....like an Uncle. But he just never noticed Me and Fern, and it was like, hello, we are young and pretty here and can get a lot of guys to the shows, cause we are just like, so hot. But he never noticed, but you did and that's why I am sooooo happy!"

Me: Was I really hearing this? "Ah, yeah.....Well Nicki, I did notice you, but what that means is I gave you your notice. We will be letting you go.....you're not needed anymore in NYCW. I'm sorry."

Nicki: "Ahhhhhh, I am so sure, you mean we are fired?"

Me: "I am afraid so, yes."

Nicki: "No wonder Fern called you a jerk and lots of other names too. I was like, that's good news, but she was like, he is such a prick and I was like no he's not, but now I'm like, wow, yes he is...."

Me: My head was ready to explode. "Nicki, look, I am sorry, but I am really busy. I wish you the best."

Nicki walked off muttering and I wondered if it was truly possible that people were that stupid. There was downside of this however, I knew that Nicki and Roger Cage were involved as more than kayfabe manager/client, so this would likely insure that he would bolt to SWF, who had reportedly tendered him an offer.

The boredom I had experienced an earlier in the day was now like the last time Land Mass had a 32 inch waist, a long forgotten memory as things suddenly got hectic.

"Hey Terry, what's happening dude? It's Donnie."

Me: "Donnie J, what's the good word are you ready to bite the big Apple?"

Donnie: "Not only ready but looking forward to it and you know that idea you mentioned....If you could get a certain somebody on board?"

Me: "Yes, are you saying???"

Donnie: "He's all in my man and if you get the paperwork hooked up we will be ready to go for your next show, what's it called again?"

Me: "Rush hour."

Donnie: "Hey, that's slick, that whole New York traffic thing, nice!!"

Me: "Well Donnie this is great, I am excited to have both you and Mikel on board and it's gonna be a fun ride, you are two guys I am looking to lead NYCW into the future. Now to start I will be booking you against Honest Frank on Rush Hour and.......You are in the co-main......Oh crap, hey listen, get down here within the next couple of days if you can and we'll sort everything out. I've gotta get hold of Uncle Derek before he approves the proofs of the posters and they start printing them. Dammit, he will stuff them down my throat if I don't catch him......gotta go, bye."

The excitement I felt was buried under a blanket of dread if I did not reach my uncle in time, as the posters he was set to have printed had Steve Flash against Honest Frank in the co-main. Before I could find the number to the printers (Uncle Derek had a cell phone, but it stayed in his glove box and was always turned off) the phone rang again.

"Terry, this is Bali, I have considered your offer and I would like to get back to doing some dates in the US, so I accept your offer just as long as know Golden Canvas is my priority."

Me: "Outstanding, welcome to NYCW, listen, I don't mean to cut you off, but I know you are in Boston for a few days visiting Akima right?"

Samoan Machine: "Right, I'll actually be here for 3 more weeks."

Me: "Let me call you right back, I'll get you transportation up here and we can get the details ironed out, you have a show to do big man...Give me about 20 minutes and I'll get back to you, later."

This was insane, I finally found the number to the print shop and dialed, a strange high pitched voice greeted me. "Hi this is Eric, how can I help you?"

Me: "Hey, it's Terry from NYCW, is my uncle there?"

The phone was handed to my my Uncle, who was slightly perturbed.

Stomper: "Dammit kid, I am just going over the final proofs, can this wait? I want to get these damn posters finished so they can print."

Me: "Stop the presses Uncle Derek, I just go confirmation that Donnie J, Samoan Machine and, well let's say a surprise or two are coming aboard!!! We gotta make some changes, I have pictures, can you give me 30 minutes to get down there?"

Stomper: (Screaming) "What the hell?? First of all you're not Clark Kent talking to Perry White with this stop the presses bull crap! Second, we had this show booked and I am ready to print, you and the new generation can kiss my wrinkled old Butt. Where do you think money comes from trees?"

Me: "Uncle Derek, I will pay any extra costs, just let me make a couple of changes...please."

Stomper: "Actually you can pay for the damn posters yourself and do whatever you want with them, don't mind me Terry, I am only the damn owner of New York City Wrestling, what the hell do I know? You get down here and fix what you need to fix, I'll be feeding Pigeons, unless you just signed someone to do that too...."

With that the phone slammed heavily on the receiver.....I guess that was a yes, so I grabbed my keys and headed for the door, making a couple of calls as I drove I was able to get two more Wrestlers in the fold before I hit the print shop. If Uncle Derek didn't choke me, it was shaping up to be a very good day!!

Uncle Derek can hold a grudge, since he hasn't spoken to me since "Poster Gate" but I am sure he will eventually break his silence, most likely the next time I piss him off. I don't really see why he is upset, since I did end up paying for the new Posters out of my pocket and even offered to buy him seeds for the Pigeons....

Less than a week before the show I get me last signing (Roderick Remus) in place and I will probably debut him in a dark match at Rush Hour. I am quite happy overall with our mix, though we are a bit heavy in the mid-card area right now, but that will sort itself out as we go. I call a press conference, which attracts 3 people, The publisher of the NYCW Fanzine, (Who needs to shower more often) an intern from TEW.com and some guy from a local Tradio show, who thinks we have merchandise up for trade/sale. Oh the joys of being a small fish in a big city.

So, it is to this motley crew, that I unveil the NYCW roster heading into our first show of 2010.

One day until my first show as booker and just like that new Car that always gives you buyers remorse, I stare at the Rush Hour poster hoping I don't wind up with bookers remorse.

NYCW – Rush Hour – Week 2 January 2010

Pre-ShowRoger Cage vs Roderick Remus vs Roger Monteiro
Our official goodbye to Roger Cage, who will likely sign with SWF soon, giving two of our young signings the rub. Remus and Monteiro did most of the wrestling as Cage mugged to the crowd. After catapulting Monteiro from the ring, Cage was drop kicked from behind and caught in the Remus Clutch.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Roderick Remus defeated Roger Cage and Roger Monteiro in 8:31 when Roderick Remus defeated Roger Cage by submission with a Remus Clutch.
Rating: E+

Main Show

vs
Samoan Machine vs Animal Harker
The Machine makes an impressive debut, battering the youngster from pillar to post and landing some debilitating high impact moves. With Harker out on his feet, Samoan Machine locks on his dreaded submission hold for the win.
In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Samoan Machine defeated Animal Harker in 6:44 by submission with an Unbreakable Sleeper.
Rating: E+

Black Hat Bailey, Honest Frank and Lee Wright make their way to the ring, where Black Hat grabs a microphone. “It is time for a history lesson on this City. Now I realize that I am talking to an arena full of unemployed long shore men, who haven’t cracked a book since they dropped out of school in the 6th grade. Men who are married to women whose only brush with history occurred back in 1985 when they were talked out of their skirts by a Motley Crew roady, that hadn’t bathed in 6 days.” The crowd becomes extremely hostile, which only brings a sneer from Black Hat as Wright yells at them to shut up.

“Forget all that, because I am talking about real history. Back to the days of the Five Points turf wars and the draft riots of 1863. About Tammany hall, where only paragons of virtue, such as ourselves were allowed to tread. You see back then many dangerous gangs ruled the boroughs. The Dead Rabbits, the Plug Uglies, the Bowery Boys and of course the most dangerous one of all….the Gas House Gang. So it is with great pride, that we stand before you today and honor this great history by officially announcing the formation of the new Gas House Gang, and if you think the originals were dangerous……..New York City!! Just wait until you get a load of us!!”
Rating: D+

vs
Dazzling Dave Diamond vs Lee Wright
Wrights new compatriots in the Gas House Gang vacate the ring as the veteran locks up with Triple D, who seems unfazed by the constant threat of interference by Bailey and Frank as he takes the fight to Wright. After a string of hip tosses and drop kicks leave him reeling, Wright gouges Diamonds eyes and follows up with a series of clubbing forearms. Drawing from the crowd, Diamond rallies and has to be restrained as Wright ducks his head between the ropes to escape the onslaught. As Referee Bull holds Diamond back, Black Hat slips Wright some Brass knuckles and as Triple D grabs him, Wright knocks him cold!
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Lee Wright defeated Dazzling Dave Diamond in 14:22 by pinfall by using underhanded tactics.
Rating: D-

The Stomper comes out and confronts Bailey and Frank and as he chases them off, Lee Wright, who remains in the ring, is suddenly jumped by Dazzling Dave Diamond, who has regained consciousness and the two men brawl all the way up the ramp and into the back as security tries to separate them.

& vs &
The Ring Generals© vs The Old School Principals – NYCW Tag Team Championship
The Old School Principals used a divide and conquer method early as they tried to keep either Waldorf or Statler in their corner, working on specific body parts to weaken the Champions. Once they got their rhythm however, the Generals stormed back with a fury and seemed to be in control, until Statler took a suplex from Sanders over the top rope and on to the cement floor, where he lay motionless. Waldorf went berserk, hurling Sanders from the ring and brutalizing the Masked Mauler, hitting the Waldorf Salad Toss and getting the 3 count before Sanders could make the save.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, The Ring Generals defeated Old School Principals in 16:06 when Dean Waldorf defeated The Masked Mauler by pinfall with a Waldorf Salad Toss. The Ring Generals make defense number 1 of their NYCW Tag Team titles.
Rating: D-

The Ring Generals are in the ring, when Streetz comes out. “Here’s how it be, I’m new on the scene, but I manage a team that is nasty and mean. The Young Moguls my boys and they young and they bold, so put up those titles cause we jackin the Gold.”
Waldorf: “Listen 25 cent, or whatever your name is. If you want to hock your rap CD’s you can wait outside the building. In terms of us giving whoever your 'Boys' are a shot at the title. I have never heard of the Young Moguls and if they want a shot at these?” Waldorf holds up the belts….”The line starts out that door, goes around the block and they can jump right in….at the back, where they belong!”
Streetz: “Yo it’s your funeral Dog, I guess we’ll just have to show you what we’re all about, so peace out!”
Rating: E

vs
Donnie J vs Honest Frank
Frank comes to the ring alone as Bailey is getting ready for his title defense and Wright is nowhere to be found. Donnie J, already making some friends among the ladies in the house, uses his speed to grab control early and exasperate the more deliberate veteran, who finally explodes and nails Donnie in the crotch. Taking advantage with a series of chops, Honest Frank sets up the Frank N Hurter, but Donnie J counters with a small package and grabs victory from the jaws of defeat.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Donnie J defeated Honest Frank in 20:32 by pinfall with a fast roll up.
Rating: D

Rock Downpour turns on the house microphone as a “Stranger” makes his way to the ring from behind. “Donnie, Look out!!!”

It’s too late as Handsome Stranger clotheslines Donnie J from behind and knocks him down. Stranger pulls a ladder out from under the ring, and slides it in and proceeds to batter Donnie J, denting the Ladder and leaving DJ convulsing and bleeding in the center of the ring.
Rating: D

Handsome Stranger grabs a microphone, and stands over Donnie J, who is out cold. “Look at you pretty boy, not so handsome now are you….not even as close to being as beautiful as I, the new face of New York Championship Wrestling, the Handsome Stranger.” Stranger kisses his bicep, walks to ringside where a young blonde, who now has tears running down her face holds a bouquet of roses meant for Donnie J. He grabs them, hurls them to the floor and stomps on them, finally spitting on mangled foliage as he walks to the back dodging beers, popcorn and saliva.

vs
Black Hat Bailey © vs Whistler – NYCW Empire Championship
This was an old school classic and though neither man is in shape for a 20 minute match, they paced themselves well in an open battle that saw both get in a good share of offense. Bailey, known as being ever the treacherous one would seize momentum back from Whistler time and again, with jabs to the throat, chokes across the top rope and by raking the eyes. Whistler would then take a pounding, but feeding off the ground would rally back. Just as he was setting Bailey up for the Rebel yell, Lee Wright distracted referee Michael Bull and Honest Frank cracked Whistler over the head with his own flag pole, then rolled Bailey on top of him.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Black Hat Bailey defeated Whistler in 18:36 by submission with a Bailey Breaker after interference from Honest Frank. Black Hat Bailey makes defense number 1 of his NYCW Empire title.
Rating: D

Whistler is being put to the boots by Frank and Bailey and is taking a world class beating. Steve Flash hits the ring to a huge pop, grabs the flag pole from Frank and manages to clear the ring, saving Whistler from serious harm. The crowd unleashes its fury on the newly formed Gas House Gang as they beat a hasty retreat to the dressing room.
Rating: D

Overall Rating: D- Attendance: 650 Gate: $3,900

Backstage:
Stomper: Finally breaking his silence. “That main event could have been better, I told you to script Whistler. The fans love him but he gets lost when calling a match in the ring. I’ll talk to you tomorrow, be in by 8 sharp and bring a pencil…..This was a good start, but you have some things to learn still and it starts with knowing who the hell is in charge here.”

With that Uncle Derek left and I sat there feeling somewhat disconsolate, as Black Hat came over.

Bailey: “You did good kid, we can build off this. Don’t mind Derek, he’s a stickler and you know that.”

Me: “I know Bo, I have just never felt his wrath like this before.”

Bailey: (Laughing) “Why do you think I gave you the book you little Bastard. Just remember, as long as he is yelling at you….he cares. I think we will bring in some new fans when word gets out and as long as we can keep growing, you’ll learn to love those tongue lashings.”

Somehow I likened that to learning to love being caned, but I liked and trusted Black Hat and he certainly knew my uncle well.

I was sitting reading one of the wrestling dirt sheets as I waited for Uncle Derek and Black Hat to return from Breakfast. January had been quite the month in the pro wrestling world and I was happy to see our Show mentioned in a positive manner under the caption “Twist era starts with a bang.”

This particular Newsletter was extremely condensed, but it made for good quick reading as I waited.

Scoop Slam – Inside Pro Wrestling February 2010

Wrestling on the rise!!
As we enter 2010 Wrestling seems to be enjoying as much popularity as ever, with Japan leading the way as two promotions have announced expansion plans due to growth. 5 Star Supreme Wrestling has risen to regional size, while Golden Canvas Grappling has announced plans to increase their roster after moving to cult size. The Kinki based promotions are looking to close ground on Burning Hammer of the Wrestling Gods, currently Japans only nation promotion.

All in the Family Stone
North of the Border Professional Wrestling will see a changing of the guard as Dan Stone has turned over the day to day operations of running Canada’s number one promotion to his daughter Victoria, who has promised to make NOTBPW a world player as we enter 2010.

Sick Bumps
ACPW’s El Diablo is expected to miss up to 45 days after undergoing Hernia surgery after suffering the injury in a match against Alistair Shufflebottom.

Rogue Matsuo has suffered an ankle injury in the midst of the current WLW tour and may now miss up to a month of action after trying to work through the injury.

Terrible Tommy - Business as usual in TCW
During a recent appearance on a radio show, Tommy Cornell chose to air yet another load of TCW’s seemingly endless supply of dirty laundry, mentioning that he had been experiencing problems with Freddy Huggins backstage, though he did not go into specifics.

As I chuckle at the constant friction that runs through TCW, Uncle Derek and Black Hat Bailey arrive.

Black Hat: “Good morning Terry, your Uncle Derek has had a terrible morning, so how about some news to cheer him up.”

Stomper: “Terrible isn’t the word, damn pancakes were cold, I ran out of coffee three times and then the broad serving us had the nerve to throw the Pennies I left her at us as we left….And it was your idea to try that place Bo, so I should be mad at you!”

At long last, something for Uncle Derek to focus his curmudgeonly outlook on not named Terry!

Me: “Well, this should cheer you up, reading this wrestling rag it looks like Cornell is having his usual back stage issues in TCW, this time Freddy Huggins took a dump on his toothbrush.”

Stomper: “I could give a Rats ass about Tommy Cornell or TCW, in fact it’s hard enough to get used to having his damn kid working for me, so spare his misery.”

Me: “You know, speaking of Edward, he is really fitting in well here. I was talking to Dean Waldorf and it seems that he and little Cornell share a love of foreign films, they have really bonded. Oh and Lee Wright has been working with Animal Harker too, kind of taken him under his wing, so it looks like we are developing some really strong cohesion backstage.”

Stomper: “First off, who do you think asked Wright to work with Harkins, I am fully aware he is mentoring him and as far as foreign films go, what in blue hell does that have to do with making this company money. You really think have two wrestlers that enjoy reading a movie while the whole cast talks in French will take us to the next level? Do they share Popcorn too, because then…..Then we are really on the verge of something big! How about, you tell me how much money we lost in January, then see if you can dodge my shoe.”

Black Hat: “Who throws their shoe?”

Me: “That’s not my bag baby!!”

Black Hat: (Laughing) “I love Austin Powers, hey remember in the second one, when they were on the Jerry Springer show? I was…”

Stomper: “For god’s sake Bo, I can barely keep Terry focused as it is, can you shut your trap for one infernal minute so I can find out if I have to Mortgage my house?”

Me: “Well, actually the news is pretty good. At the end of the day we made a $247.00 profit, so in essence we broke even and I think we will do even better at Rumble in the Bronx this month. It seems the fans have some heat with Handsome Stranger after the attack on Donnie J at Rush Hour and are eager to see Donnie get revenge.”

Uncle Derek nearly smiled, bit caught himself…

Stomper: “Well, I can live with that…In fact, I am impressed. As much as I wanted to strangle you with your last minute switching of Rush Hour, I have to say you made it work. Nice job, not great or even good, just nice.”

Black Hat stood off to the side smiling, knowing how hard it was for Uncle Derek to give praise and we exchanged winks in celebration.

Me: “I think we may be on to something with those two. If they can get some momentum going while (pointing to Black Hat) the storyline you have going with Whistler, Steve and Frank can hold down the main event slots for a few shows we will have a lot of options heading into the fall.”

Black Hat: “I agree, looks like our work is done here Derek, want to head to the gym?”

Stomper: “Good idea, it would be nice for you not to blow up after 15 minutes Bo. Terry, just remember though. Be careful with the young guys, get them too strong too fast and Cornell and Eisen will be lurking outside our shows like Rats outside a Cheese factory to scoop them up!”

Me: “You got it Uncle Derek, oh by the way; I signed this kid named Richie Riggins, 19 yrs old and has a great look. Raw, but I think he has potential, plus we had a spot open at the bottom of the card.”

Stomper: “Oh by the way, anymore signings without asking me and the company check book will never be seen by your eyes again…”

I nodded as Uncle Derek, perfectly fine with that threat, since I had set up online banking and ordered myself a credit card tied to the company account. Not having the check book would just be one less pile of paper to worry about…..

The final nail into the Telephone pole is like the ending crescendo of Beethoven's 5th. A long day, but the last poster is hung for Rumble in the Bronx. Now the only nails I will have to worry about are not chewing mine to the nub waiting for the show.

NYCW – Rumble in the Bronx – Week 2 February 2010

vs
Dazzling Dave Diamond vs Roderick Remus
The newcomer Remus is tough and not above using every dirty trick in the book, but the old Southern Boy has a few of his own and shows he can fly with the best of them, nailing Remus with some beautiful drop kicks and a series of flying head scissors that have Remus reeling. The youngster gave a good accounting, but would eventually fall victim the most “exhilarating” move in wrestling, the Dazzle Driver.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Dazzling Dave Diamond defeated Roderick Remus in 12:29 by pinfall with a Dazzle Driver.

Streetz once again graces the New York crowd with his presence, this time joined by the Young Moguls, Edward Cornell and The New York Doll. “Yo, go ahead and boo, but you fools is all trippin, and Ring Generals, yo mugs have got to be flippin. I laid it all out and I came at you straight, give the Moguls a match, but you bugged and said wait.” Streetz does a little dance and grins at the crowd, which doesn’t seem to appreciate his footwork. “It’s cool, dats fine I know that I’m dope, and you fools that are hatin, you ain’t got no hope. Any team in the back, anywhere anyhow, we’ll fight anyone and we’ll do it right now.”

Rock Downpour over house the PA system. “I believe that was an open challenge.”
Rating: F+

Motorhead’s ‘Ace of Spades’ fills the arena and Sammy the Shark comes out. “First off, Streetz, what you just heard is called, real music. Something you and those wanna be, thug life nobodies with you don’t know anything about. Now, I have a partner and contrary to reports of his demise, he is very much alive and kicking here in NYCW and we accept your challenge!” Roger Cage walks out as Edward Cornell and The New York Doll freak out, yelling at Streetz that they wanted the Ring Generals, not Shark Cage!
Rating: E

& vs &
Shark Cage vs The Young Moguls
Like it or not, the Moguls got what they wanted and were able to hang surprisingly well with the veteran team, thanks to liberal interference from Streetz, who seemed to be everywhere. Cage and the New York Doll brawled into the crowd and as the referee tried to watch all four men, Cornell locked a sleeper on Sammy after a low blow. Barely conscious, Sammy propelled himself backwards into the turnbuckle, breaking the hold and then spinning and landing a desperation ‘Ace in the Hole’ spiking Cornell hard into the mat and draping an arm over him to get the 3 count.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Shark Cage defeated The Young Moguls in 11:38 when Sammy the Shark defeated Edward Cornell by pinfall with an Ace in the Hole. During the match we also had Streetz run in and attack Cage, who threw him rudely to the floor.

An infuriated Donnie J comes to the ring and grabs a mic. “You know, sometimes things are not what they seem. Handsome Stranger, take a look at me….Apparently you see a mirror image of yourself, a self absorbed, selfish, egotistical, superficial prima donna with a dark void where his soul should be. Yeah, I go to the tanning salon, but that doesn’t make me a man.” Donnie pulls off his shades and smashes them under his wrestling boot. “Gucci shades, nice, but at the end of the day they mean nothing. You see, I do like to feel good and look good, but none of that makes me a man. What makes me a man is what’s inside and when I see children clinging to their mothers, scared because you tried to cave my head in with a Ladder. When I see one of my fans in tears, because you took a bouquet of flowers from her and trampled them…..It makes my blood boil, the blood that pumps from right here.” Donnie pounds his chest. “And it is what’s in here that makes me a man, and as a man I will never, ever, ever!!! Allow you to hurt the ones that make me the man I am….and that is these fans. So you can bet your sweet behind that I’m coming for you tonight Stranger…..and I’m bringing Hell with me!!”

vs
Land Mass vs Regular Joe
In a one-sided affair, Land Mass jumps Regular Joe before the bell rings and proceeds to maul the newest addition to our roster with an unrelenting attack, which culminates with him crashing into the helpless youngster with the Ten Ton Avalanche.
Land Mass defeated Regular Joe in 4:51 by pinfall with a Ten Ton Avalanche.
Rating: E-

Handsome Stranger appears at the announcers Desk and addresses Donnie J with contempt. “Donnie J, not only do you show how truly ugly you are by crying for these filthy peasants, who do not even understand the wonder that is the Handsome Stranger. But then, you commit the ultimate crime, by smashing a pair of designer sun glasses into a pile of worthless glass and metal, to be swept up and dumped in the trash. For that, I spit on you Donnie J and later tonight, I shall smite you!!”

The Ring Generals vs Old School Principals – NYCW Tag Team Titles
The hatred between these two teams manifested itself early on as headlocks and hip tosses, quickly degenerated into punches, kicks and chokeholds. As the match turned in favor of the Champions, Samoan Machine suddenly appears at ringside and after a nod from Rick Sanders caught Marv Statler with a wicked clothesline to the back of the head. Statler was down and out, but unfortunately for the Old School Principals, referee Michael Bull witnessed the attack and called for the bell.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, The Ring Generals defeated Old School Principals in 14:44 when The Masked Mauler was disqualified when Samoan Machine ran in and attacked Marv Statler. The Ring Generals make defense number 2 of their NYCW Tag Team titles.
Rating: D

Dean Waldorf rushes in to check on Statler, but Rick Sanders, The Masked Mauler and Samoan Machine are not done on this night as they swarm the Champions with a near feral ferocity that soon has Statler and Waldorf in serious trouble. As the timekeeper rings the bell furiously, Larry Vessey finally arrives with a steel chair, sending the villains scampering.
Rating: E-

vs
Donnie J vs Handsome Stranger
The anger in this bout makes the previous tag bout look like a bake sale. Handsome Stranger does not even get his robe off before Donnie J attacks him and the crowd loves it. This one had it all as it is now the Strangers turn to bleed, courtesy of a head first ride into the steel ring steps. Donnie J takes a wicked bump into the steel barriers around the ring and is then nearly broken in two by the flying body press that immediately follows. The bout ends with both men exchanging blows three rows deep into the audience as Bull counts both of them out.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Donnie J drew with Handsome Stranger in 17:29 following a double count out.

vs
Black Hat Bailey vs Steve Flash – NYCW Empire Title
These two old veterans closed the show in style, with Bailey resorting to his usual tomfoolery, raking eyes, hitting with a closed fist when the referee could not see and even crotching Flash on the ring ropes. Flash relied on the crowd to rally him and they responded as he came back from 4 straight minutes of getting beat up with a series of lefts and rights, followed by an atomic drop that sent Bailey over the ropes. Suddenly Lee Wright appeared and began taunting Flash, who was distracted just long enough for the Champion to slither back into the ring and clamp the Bailey Breaker on Flash, forcing the submission.
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Black Hat Bailey defeated Steve Flash in 18:45 by submission with a Bailey Breaker after a distraction from Lee Wright. Black Hat Bailey makes defense number 2 of his NYCW Empire title.
Rating: D+

After the Bell, Bailey refused to release the hold as Lee Wright and Honest Frank egged him on. Finally, with Flash nearly unconscious, Bailey dropped him and all three members of The Gas House Gang put the boots to him. Whistler finally came running down and slid into the ring, throwing his body over Flash in an attempt to shield him. For his trouble, the Gas House Gang turned their aggression on Whistler and left him battered and beaten next to Flash as they strode to the back grinning like a pack of Jackals.

Overall Rating: D Attendance: 737 Gate: $5,159

Backstage:
Lots of heat at the end, which coupled with an almost 100 person jump in attendance has me feeling pretty good. Of course Uncle Derek is never one to indulge in too much of a celebration.

Stomper: “Edward Cornell is too young to use as much as you did tonight. Besides, I’m still not convinced the little sonofabitch isn’t down here spying for his Family. I will give this, the increase in attendance shows we have gained some popularity, so make sure you don’t screw it up with a bad show at Ides of March!”

Me: “Hey Uncle Derek, what would you say if I told you that you just won 2 million dollars in the Tri-State lottery?”

Stomper: “Well half of that would go right back to Uncle Sam, then the damn IRS would be after me with a magnifying glass…Why would you ask that anyway.”

Me: “No reason, just making sure you like the show.”

Stomper: (Looking at Black Hat) “What the hell is wrong with him?”

Black Hat: (Laughing) “I would say nothing, except the he knows you too well.”

Stomper: “Screw both of you, get showered Bailey, the rounds are on you tonight!”

Thanks to all who predicted, I am having fun with NYCW and happy to have a few readers. Can’t believe I allowed myself to miss out on the Cornellverse all these years.

Stomper: “Not sure I like the looks of this Terry, a loss of $1,475.00 in February.”

Me: “Well, we did spend some more on workers, but our ticket sales were over $1,200 higher and we still have almost 99K in the vault Uncle Derek.”

Stomper: “Well great, so you’re saying we won’t be broke for about what, 8 years at this rate? Listen I could drive through a pack of Lions on a tank of gas, but if I ran out of gas next to a pack of Tigers I would still get my ass eaten.”

Me: “What does that even mean?”

Stomper: “It means quit losing money!!”

Just then there was a knock on the door and Larry Vessey came in.

Larry: “Hey listen, I hear you want to book me against Samoan Machine at Ides of March, let me just tell you a couple of things about how I think you should be using me.”

Me: “Larry, with all due respect to your time in the business, let me tell you how I will be using you and I am not thinking about anything, you are booked against Samoan Machine at Ides of March. Listen, you don’t think what you say in the back gets back to me. How the book should be yours and that I’m lucky my Uncle owns the company or you’d tighten me up. The reality is this Larry, you’re lucky my Uncle likes you because you can be a pain in the ass in the dressing room, in fact, right now I would say you are the only negative influence back there.”

Larry: “Derek, you let this snot nosed punk Nephew of yours talk to me like that? I am not about to put up with that crap from the likes of….”

Stomper: “Likes of what Larry…..your boss? Who the hell is holding the keys to this Car Larry? Me and he is steering and I can throw Terry out the window if I want because he is my Nephew. But you work for me and I gave him the book, which means you work for him too. So anything else you want to share about your thoughts you can share with the bathroom stall. I brought you here to possibly take over things when I retire, but that ain’t happened yet, so until it does you are just another worker.”

Vessey looked pissed, but when Uncle Derek mentioned his future involvement as possible owner he bit his tongue. I had heard rumblings that he brought Vessey in for that reason, but had always dismissed them as I could never see Larry being a leader of men. For that reason I had never asked Uncle Derek about it…..but now.

Me: “You really wouldn’t sell him the company when you retired would you Uncle Derek?”

Stomper: “Of course I would, who would keep you in line if I didn’t?”

With that Uncle Derek was gone and I had no clue if he was joking or serious, though since he rarely joked I felt the odds were good I would one day work for the only man in NYCW harder to get along with than my Uncle. I shuddered, and then quickly went back to planning the Ides of March show before I deprived my Uncle of the chance and threw myself out the window.

I have a real booking dilemma for Ides of March as I have 3 main event quality matchups and the worst of the three candidates is likely the Empire title match. Flash and Frank have the most heat, but I can’t see putting our most prestigious title in the co-main or even the third match, so I will have to book it to get the most possible from Bailey and Diamond.

I was even beginning to question giving Diamond the shot, but there was no other way to set things up for City Slam 1, our company’s biggest show, to get our active storylines to play out the way I wanted. On a positive note, it was a good dilemma to have, as I felt we had five solid matches lined up for the windup show to City Slam. In the end I decided to leave Bailey/Diamond on top, go with our hottest match in the co-main and start the show with Whistler and Wright, which could just as easily have been in the two or three slot on this card.

NYCW – Ides of March – Week 2 March 2010

vs
Whistler vs Lee Wright
The two veterans do a great job working the crowd and get the show off to a great start, as Whistler falls victim time and again to Wrights treachery, only to rally as the crowd chants USA, USA, USA. As expected it doesn’t take long for Honest Frank to interject himself into the match and just as it appears he will turn the tide for Wright, Steve Flash arrives and evens the odds. As Flash and Frank brawl their way to the back, Whistler counters an Irish whip and catches Wright with the Rebel Yell as he staggers out of the corner.
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Whistler defeated Lee Wright in 14:29 by pinfall with a Rebel Yell. During the match we also saw Honest Frank run in and attack Whistler, and Steve Flash also attack Wright.
Rating: D+

Whistler grabs a microphone and thanks the crowd, then turns to the back. “Steve, you had my back tonight and I can’t tell you how much that means to me. You see, the principles this great country were founded on…..Integrity, honesty and good ole blood, sweat and tears. Those are the things I see when I look at you brother and it makes me proud to be an American! Just know that whenever you need me….I’ll be there for you!”
Rating: D

vs
Larry Vessey vs Samoan Machine
Vessey gives the Samoan powerhouse all he can handle and it becomes apparent early that the Machine is not just going to walk over the cagey veteran, who is not afraid to scrap with his younger adversary when the need arises. Samoan Machines frustration grows to the point that he finally uses the tag rope to nearly choke Vessey out, weakening him to the point that he can finally apply the unbreakable sleeper for the win.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Samoan Machine defeated Larry Vessey in 9:16 by submission with an Unbreakable Sleeper after blatantly cheating.
Rating: D-

Honest Frank is in the ring and has a few things to say. “Honesty? Integrity?…blah, blah blah. Whistler, I am called Honest Frank for a reason and that reason is I tell it like it is. Steve Flash didn’t save your bacon tonight, he cooked his! The Gas House Gang does not take kindly to our authority being challenged, nor do we appreciate meddlers….in fact the honest truth is…..” Frank pauses, looking down while he ponders his next words. Suddenly the crowd erupts and Frank looks up to see Steve Flash come sprinting out from the locker room, hell bent on continuing their earlier brawl. Frank wants no part of this and makes his escape through the crowd.
Rating: D-

vs vs
Roger Monteiro vs Roderick Remus vs Regular Joe
I give the youngsters some face time and they give a good effort, but nobody is able to assert themselves as the dominant figure, with all three men having good moments and bad. The end comes when Remus hurls Joe into the corner and follows him in with a reverse splash. Monteiro is right behind Remus and comes flying in with an Eagle Chop, which Remus avoids, but Joe catches right in the kisser. Monteiro then drop kicks Remus out of the ring and covers Joe for the victory.
In an extremely poor match, Roger Monteiro defeated Regular Joe and Roderick Remus in 10:39 when Roger Monteiro defeated Regular Joe by pinfall with an Eagle Chop.
Rating: E+

Handsome Stranger makes his way to the ring and as he waits for Donnie J addresses the crowd. “You people need to stand and express your appreciation for the most beautiful man in NYCW. Ladies, look at your man, now look at me. Now you have something to dream about tonight while the ugly cochino lying next to you in bed snores through his greasy lips. But wait, I too have a dream……A dream to make the Empire Title look better than it ever has……When I drape it around these marvelous abs after.…” Stranger is cut off as “Boom” by POD fills the arena and Donnie J sprints to the ring.
Rating: D-

vs
Donnie J vs Handsome Stranger
The animosity is apparent as Donnie J rips off Handsome Strangers plush robe and hurls it to the filthy arena floor, which both mortifies and angers the handsome one. From here it is a full on brawl as they exchange punches at ring center, before Handsome Stranger lands a low blow to gain the early edge. Donnie J stages a rally, ducking a clothesline, then landing a Thesz press off the ropes and going to town on Handsome Stranger’s cranium with a two fisted assault. Stranger escapes by sliding out of the ring, pulling Donnie down by his ankles, then crotching him on the ring post. Stranger retrieves the belt from his robe and proceeds to choke Donnie in a blind rage. Michael Bull reaches the 5 count and unable to get Handsome Stranger to relinquish the choke, calls for the bell!
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Donnie J defeated Handsome Stranger in 16:01 by disqualification.
Rating: D

Handsome Stranger, realizing he has been disqualified goes berserk and lifts Donnie J to his feet, still holding the belt tightly around his neck. He then hurls Donnie J over the top rope and does not let go, hanging him as Michael Bull tries in vain to save Donnie J, whose legs thrash wildly as he gasps for air. It is a desperate scene as security finally gets Handsome Stranger to release his grip, as Donnie J falls to the arena floor limp.
Rating: D-

vs
Honest Frank vs Steve Flash
Frank and Flash exchange arm wringers early and both men show some fine technical skills, before Frank cheap shots Flash on a break. This fires Steve up and he hurls Frank into the corner and follows with several stiff chops to the chest. Lee Wright suddenly appears and holds the ropes open as Flash looks to rebound off them, causing him to fall through to the floor, where Wright lays the boots to him. Whistler enters the fray and chases Wright off before helping Flash back into the ring. The brawl continues and Honest Frank, getting the worst of it staggers into the corner where Whistler is standing and reaches into his tights for a foreign object. Whistler jumps up on the ring apron to intervene and takes a vicious hack at Frank with his flagpole. Frank ducks and Steve Flash who is coming in to pull Frank out of the corner takes the full brunt of the blow. Whistler looks on stunned as Honest Frank picks Flash up and buries him with the Frank N Hurter.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Honest Frank defeated Steve Flash in 13:36 by pinfall with a Frank-N-Hurter following botched interference by Whistler. During the match we also had Lee Wright run in and attack Flash.
Rating: D+

Whistler helps Steve Flash to his feet and swears he hit him by accident, apologizing profusely. Those at ringside hear Whistler begging Flash to forgive him and telling him “I only wanted to be there for you brother, Frank had some brass knuckles and I was just trying to save you, I’m sorry!” Flash seems annoyed but eventually accepts Whistlers extended hand and walks to the back holding his head.
Rating: D

vs
Black Hat Bailey vs Dazzling Dave Diamond – NYCW Empire Title
Dazzling Dave has the crowd on their feet as he enters the ring to the strains of Freebird. Eager to make the most of his shot, Diamond explodes on Bailey early, sending the Champion scampering for high ground on no fewer than three occasions. Bailey is a savvy veteran though and he waits for the challengers’ adrenaline to wane, finally breaking his momentum with a well placed thrust to the throat. Bailey then works on Triple D’s back with stomps and a rear chin lock, which elicits screams of pain from Diamond. With the crowd stomping and cheering, Diamond rallies and nails the Bailey with an electrifying drop kick off the top rope. Honest Frank and Lee Wright appear from the back and as Diamond hoists the Champion up for the dazzle driver both men jump up onto the ring apron, causing Diamond to drop Bailey and go after them. The tiny opening is all Bailey needs and he quickly ensnares Diamond in the Bailey breaker, forcing the submission.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Black Hat Bailey defeated Dazzling Dave Diamond in 15:48 by submission with a Bailey Breaker after a distraction from Lee Wright. During the match we also had Honest Frank distract Triple D. Black Hat Bailey makes defense number 3 of his NYCW Empire title.
Rating: D-

Black Hat Bailey, Honest Frank and Lee Wright stand together mid ring as Bailey addresses the crowd. “You want to talk about gangs of New York? Right here are the only three names you need to know. Forget Gotti, forget Bill the Butcher, the Gashouse Gang runs this city!” Whistler appears with his own microphone. “You talk a big game Bailey, but I tell you what, it's time somebody took this City back! But first, there only one way stop Rats from stealing cheese and that’s to put them in a cage!! Honest Frank and Lee Wright….You are biggest Rats in NYCW, you belong in a cage and at City Slam……That’s where you are both going to be, stuck in a steel cage staring across the ring and Steve Flash and myself. And I swear with God and this great country as my witness, we will exterminate you once and for all! And after that Bailey, I’m coming after the big cheese, if you know what I mean?”
Rating: D+

Overall Rating: D- Attendance: 758 Gate: $5,306

Backstage:
Stomper: “You really had a tough call with that main event, you can’t put your main title in anything but the number one slot in most cases, but this is one you should have probably let Frank and Flash headline.”

Was this really the ultra conservative, by the book Stomper saying this?

Me: “But Uncle Derek you said….”

Stomper: “I said sometimes you need to shake things up a little bit and I don’t want to hear anything else.”

Me: “What? When did you say that?”

Stomper: “Just now, do you want me to say it slower, write it down for you? Make a plaque?”

Me: “But, if you said it after the show how am I….oh never mind, it’s your Car.”

Stomper: “Well, hope does spring eternal in the minds of the young after all, about time you got it Terry. Oh by the way. Our worker cost for this show is going to be under $17,000, the lowest of your three shows in charge. With a good month from our sponsors we should make a little bit of profit, which means I might be in a good mood heading into City Slam. Now where the hell is Black Hat, I’m starving!”

I watched Uncle Derek walk off and quietly thanked god for wrestling, because without it his whole world would be Buffets and Bingo Halls, which would undoubtedly make him much crankier than he was now.

April fool’s day dawns and as the sunrise snakes it way through the New York City skyline a solitary figure pounds away on the calculator mashing numbers from March, when the door opens and in walks what can best be described as a cross between David Lee Roth and Jeff Foxworthy…..

Triple D: “Cock-a-doodle doo good buddy, how y’all doing this morning?”

Me: “Dave, what, beside 9 cups of coffee has you up and running at 3000 RPM’s this early?” In truth he was always going at that speed, so I don’t know why I even bothered to ask.

Triple D: “Got me an independent show down in Philly tonight and have some time to kill before the train leaves, so I reckoned I’d stop by and see what was shaking.”

Me: “Just going numbers and actually they look quite good, we made a profit of $2,858.00 in March and when I tell Uncle Derek I am sure that will make him quite happy, which means…”

Triple D: “Everybody will be happy….Where is the old Stomper anyway?”

Me: “He’s down at TCW headquarters meeting with Tommy Cornell, looks like he will be doing some Road Agent work for them on the side since they are making a big push.”

Triple D: “What in tarnation, I thought Stomper only got along with the fella’s in MAW? To hear him tell it all other promotions are the Devil!”

Me: (Laughing) “Well, Uncle Derek likes Ben Franklin as much as any man, so when he gets a chance add a few more of them to his wallet he can look past personal feelings.”

Triple D: “Well speaking of Ben Franklins, since we made some money last month how about flipping old Triple D a raise, of maybe Uncle Derek can get me a few bookings with TCW now that he is part of the team and all.”

Me: “Keep getting over and we’ll talk when contract time comes up Dave and good job again at Ides of March, I have been getting some good feedback.”

Triple D: “Well you ain’t alone good buddy, I did a shot in Hartford last week and had a couple of ladies wanting the ole Dazzle Driver when they heard I was almost the New York City Champion, hell I’m aiming to meet a few more tonight after the Philly show and at least get a free meal out of it.”

Me: “Party like a rock star big guy, who you working down there tonight?”

Triple D: “Some fella named Jared Johnson or Jones, something like that. Hear he goes by Double J, so its Double J against Triple D, with hopefully a nice little honey that goes by double D afterwards, yes sir!”

Me: “Jared Johnson? Well, you’ll get to see a lot more him for the next year or so. I went and checked him out last week in Boston and offered him a deal, he will be available for us at City Slam 1.”

Triple D: “Well I’ll be damned, small world ain’t it. Hey I gotta get going, but mentioning Boston, did I ever tell you about the time I worked a show down there and met this sweet young thing afterwards who came up and whispered in my ear that she could dislocate her hips? I tell you what…”

Me: “That’s fine Dave, I am sure it was quite the experience, you’ll have to tell me all about it when you get back. I have to finish these number and you don’t want to miss that train.”

Triple D: “Gotcha little Stomper, well I’ll see ya when I get back, take her easy…Hell I’ll take her anyway I can get her, woooeee.”

I watched Dave bounce out the door and didn’t know whether to envy him for always being so energetic or Drug test him. I left Uncle Derek a voice mail with the good news on the profits, which I knew he would not pick up. Instead he would be pissed off I hadn’t gotten the figures to him and when I told him to check his voice mail he would go off on a tangent about gadgets and technology and whatever happened to the good old days of Pony express.

Putting down the numbers for a minute I perused TEW.com to kill some time and get up to speed on the wrestling world.

TCW was really making quite the push; they were now regarded as international in size and had signed a number of wrestlers over the past month including Mikey James, Matthew Keith, Frankie Perez, Kashmir Singh and Sgt Bubba Lee West among others. They did suffer a mild blow, when Texas Pete sustained a torn stomach muscle, though he was only expected to miss a month or so.

Other news included USPW’s Java putting over Tyson Baine in a big lovefest and Tsdiyuki Kikkawa getting some bad press for Japan’s BHOTWG by running down Marihito Masuko for some issues back stage.

SWF was invading the PPV market south of the border, signing a deal with Seleccion Mexico to carry their PPV events. The rich just get richer.

When you only do a monthly show every show is big, but City Slam is our marquee event. I have live music lined up and a couple of local celebrities on tap, including Richard Christy from the Howard Stern show, who I have a feeling will develop quite the bond with Dazzling Dave Diamond.

Booking wise what happens at this show will define the course of NYCW for the next several months and will also mark my first big gambles as booker of the company. I have some signed talent that has been on the shelf and have a deal with MAW on a talent trade that I need to use or lose and this card is the perfect opportunity to set that up. It is also time to see if some of the younger guys are ready to shoulder some more weight, though our veterans will continue to play the biggest roles in our direction. We actually did some radio advertising for this show and I am hoping we can pull 100-150 new fans in. That isn’t the hardest part though, once there we have to keep them.

NYCW –City Slam 1 – Week 2 April 2010

The crowd is ready to go, though it does not appear we have an increase from March, they are at least enthusiastic.

Stomper: “What the hell is with all those signs?”

Me: “That’s what a lot of the younger kids do now Uncle Derek, it’s a good thing, means we are getting some younger fans.”

Stomper: “Bah, they stuck one in front of me when I was watching a Wrestling show it would be confetti, and young my ass, that guy in the corner is older than me!!”

Pre-Show
Prior to a big show Steve Flash, Whistler, Roger Monteiro, Animal Harker, Honest Frank, Lee Wright, Samoan Machine and Roderick Remus take the time to interact with the fans in a meet and greet. We keep the Heels and Face separated and beyond a few insults there are no incidents.

vs
Handsome Stranger vs Dazzling Dave Diamond
Dazzling Dave is whooping it up and gets in Handsome Strangers head early on with his wild antics. The handsome one goes into a frenzy when Diamond traps him in the corner and rubs his armpit on his face, much to the delight of the crowd. Choking and gagging outside the ring, Handsome Stranger takes his revenge, brutalizing Diamond with punches, kicks and wicked slingshot onto the top rope that mails Diamond in the throat. Handsome Stranger then nails a DDT and to insure the pin place his feet on the ropes as Triple D is unable to kick out.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Handsome Stranger defeated Dazzling Dave Diamond in 13:10 by pinfall, illegally using the ropes for leverage.

Sammy the Shark and Roger Cage are in the locker room and are apparently not seeing eye to eye.
Sammy: “Roger, all I am asking is that you watch my back against whoever Streetz throws out there. That whole group is a bunch of thugs and I don’t want to roll craps tonight buddy."

Roger: “Really, what about me? I’m better looking than Handsome Stranger, just as cool as Donnie J and can wrestle with anyone in this company, Roger….Roger Cage! But people are starting to forget that name, because I either have to watch your back or team with you because people are after you….what about me?”

Sammy: “Roger, listen man let me give these guys from The Young Moguls the Royal Flush and then it will be your turn to hit the Jackpot.”

Roger: “I’m a prime time player Sammy, center stage and all the rage, you know the name it’s Roger Cage….Remember all that?”

Sammy: “I do, I do and I promise we stack our chips together against Streetz and his crew, and then we get you back into the Lottery!”

Roger: (Screaming) “I don’t want to wait…..and quit talking in those stupid gambling analogies, it drives me nuts!”

Cage storms off as Sammy the Shark is left standing with a quizzical look on his face. Back in the shadows, an unseen figure who was eavesdropping, moves quietly away.

vs
Roderick Remus vs Roger Monteiro
The youngsters get the stage again in a quick match and get an A for effort as they hit some solid high spots in a very open matchup that sees chain wrestling, high flying and both men willing to cross the line as needed. The end comes when Remus reverses a hurricanrana into the Remus clutch, forcing Monteiro to tap in agony.
In an extremely poor match, Roderick Remus defeated Roger Monteiro in 8:29 by submission with a Remus Clutch.

Streetz comes out with Edward Cornell and New York Doll as Sammy the Shark waits in the ring. “What up NYC, the only place to be, cause yo man named Streetz, flows wit all da dope beats. But yo, I ain’t hear for all dat. Sammy the Shark is the man wit strap, which he don’t deserve cause he straight up mad wack. Streetz has da pick, to face you ya fool and beat you like you was a lame rented Mule. So, wit dat clear…..Streetz sez…………………Roger Cage, get yo ass out here and face yo partner for the Tri-City belt.”

The crowd gets silent and Cornell and the Doll look at each other stunned, each demanding Streetz explain himself.

Streetz: “Yo, Terry Twist said I had da pick and I picked Roger Cage, come on out scrub!”

Cage appears, looking equally stunned. “I don’t know what you are up to Streetz, but as someone who knows smooth, you ain’t it! I am not facing my partner tonight.”
Streetz: “Yo, da contract is right here and it has da usual stips. Wrestle him and wit no apprehension, or punk out and got you a 3 month suspension!”

Cage knows the standard contract clause in NYCW and knows he has no choice unless he wants to sit on the sideline for 90 days.

vs
Sammy the Shark vs Roger Cage – NYCW Tri-City Regional Title
Despite there earlier disagreement, the two shake hands and we are underway. It is a brilliant example of scientific wrestling, with each headlock, arm bar and takedown a technical display that the fans of NYCW are rarely treated to. Both men get frustrated at times, as being partners they know each other’s moves almost before they are executed. Still they wrestle on, maintaining their respective cool until a vicious chop by Sammy angers Cage, who hurls his partner between the ropes. As if realizing he had gone too far, Cage apologizes and holds the ropes open for Sammy to get back into the ring. As the Shark re-enters the ring, Cage yanks the ropes hard into Sammy’s crotch, then sucker punches him with a vicious right hand. Cage follows up with the Cage Rage and we have a new Champion!
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Roger Cage defeated Sammy the Shark in 14:44 by pinfall with a Cage Rage. During the match we also had Roger Cage turn on The Shark. Roger Cage wins the NYCW Tri-State Regional title.

Streetz comes back out with a Microphone as Cage hoists the belt. “Yo, Cage man….I knew you had it in ya playa. Dats why Streetz gave you da chance. Dat fool was holding yo ass down G, so now dat you gat da belt….Streetz is inviting you to part of da future. Chronic Future!! Now wat you say playa?”
Cage leaves the ring and walks up to Streetz and stands in front of him…………Then brushes past and heads to the Locker room without saying a word.

vs
Samoan Machine vs Animal Harker
Samoan Machine is apparently still upset about his struggles at Ides of March as he is all over Harker from the opening bell and does not let up. In fact he pulls the Animal up twice from sure fire pins for the pleasure of putting him to sleep with the unbreakable sleeper, frothing at the mouth like a crazed Dog as Harker slips into unconsciousness.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Samoan Machine defeated Animal Harker in 8:49 by submission with an Unbreakable Sleeper.

Our makeshift video screen shows Steve Flash returning to the locker room from the bathroom to find a note taped to his bags. Flash reads the note and looks up with a look of determination on his face. Crumpling the note in his fist he then heads out of the dressing area and out to the parking lot, where the camera losses sight of him.

Ring Generals vs Old School Principals – NYCW Tag Team Titles
The blow off match is a must win for the Principals and they start strong keeping Waldorf in their corner and making quick tags to stay fresh. Waldorf rolls under a double clothesline and Statler cleans house, running around the ring with fists pumping after the Mauler and Sanders are sent to the arena floor. The Masked Mauler regains momentum for the challengers with an eye rake and tries to hoist Waldorf onto the Turnbuckle for a super-plex, but Waldorf leaps over his back and rolls the Mauler up into a small package to save the belts.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, The Ring Generals defeated Old School Principals in 17:13 when Dean Waldorf defeated The Masked Mauler by pinfall with a quick cradle. The Ring Generals make defense number 3 of their NYCW Tag Team titles.

Black Hat Bailey is at the announcers table with Rock Downpour. “You know, I had planned to come out here and repeat the same things I do every show to these intellectually challenged cretins Rock. But then it dawned on me. Some men, you just can’t reach…….So you get what we had here last month….and the month before…and the month before that. When the hell will your unemployment benefits run out people, so you can’t afford tickets anymore because I’m sick of looking at you? As for you Donnie J, you little punk, when I finish with you tonight…….You’re going to make this collection of inbreed sewer scum look like they belong to the Ford Modeling agency!” Bailey runs his thumb across his throat in a slashing gesture and storms to the back.

Steve Flash & Whistler vs Honest Frank & Lee Wright – Steel Cage Match
Whistler was ready to go and Flash seemed more than happy to let him start the match and in fact seemed in no rush to join the fray, finally allowing himself to be tagged in when Whistler was nearly out on his feet. Flash turned the tide, at one point grabbing the hair of both Frank and Wright and running them into the cage. It wasn’t long before all four men were in the ring and a free for all ensued and after a series of body slams Honest Frank and Lee Wright were both caught upside down in opposite corners, tied to the tree of woe. Whistler called for double baseball slides to the head, but Flash instead headed for the cage door as either an escape, or a pin won the match. Motioning for Whistler to hurry, Flash was already outside the cage as his partner approached with Honest Frank, who had worked himself free in pursuit. As Whistler reached the door, Flash slammed it heavily into his head, knocking him flat on his back. From there Flash watched with a smile as Honest Frank picked up Whistler from the Canvas and drove home the final nail with the Frank N Hurter!
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Honest Frank and Lee Wright defeated Steve Flash and Whistler in a Cage Classic match in 17:34 when Honest Frank defeated Whistler by pinfall with a Frank-N-Hurter following a turn by Steve Flash.

Honest Frank retrieves a briefcase from under the ring and hands it to Steve Flash, who opens it, pulls a wad of 100 dollar bills out, waves them under his nose, then closes the case back up and heads to the back, smiling like the Kool-Aid man as fans shower him in obscenities and a wide array of liquid.
Rock Downpour screams over the arena PA system: “Holy treachery, what was that!!!”
Herb Stately: “I believe that’s called getting a return on your investment……………..Batman.”

vs
Black Hat Bailey vs Donnie J – NYCW Empire Title
Before the match it is announced that the rest of the Gashouse Gang will be barred from ringside, or Black Hat will be disqualified and the Title will change hands. The announcement seems to raise Donnie J’s confidence level to extreme heights as works circles around the aging Champion, who after a particularly bad sequence drops to his knees and begs for mercy. Donnie hesitates and takes an uppercut to the nether regions for his trouble. Bailey is smiling now as he begins to soften up Donnie J’s back in preparation for the Bailey Breaker, in desperation, Donnie slides out of the hold and hits a belly to back suplex. Bailey is soon in trouble again and it looks like youth will carry the day before the rest of the Gashouse Gang appears at the entrance to the arena. Referee Michael Bull shouts a warning to them to get no closer, and while he is preoccupied Handsome Stranger comes through the crowd with a Ladder. Donnie J is ready this time and drop kicks the ladder into Handsome Strangers face knocking him off the ring apron. Bailey takes advantage of the distraction however and rolls Donnie up from behind, grabbing J’s tights as Michael Bull slides in with the 3 count!
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Black Hat Bailey defeated Donnie J in 21:53 by pinfall with a handful of tights. During the match we also had Handsome Stranger run in and attack Donnie J. Black Hat Bailey makes defense number 4 of the NYCW Empire title.

Black Hat Bailey grabs the microphone as the rest of the Gashouse Gang now joins him in the ring. “What we have learned here tonight, is that Whistler is right………..America is a great country! I mean, where else can you buy a commodity like Steve Flash for a mere $10,000.00 dollars. Now, I know that’s still more money than you idiots out here in the Arena spent on your rust eroded, 10 mile to gallon jalopies! But to finally shut the patriotic trap of that flag waving bleeding heart, well………it was a bargain. Now here is your lesson Whistler. You can take that red, white and blue rag you wave around and use it for toilet paper…..because the only Color that matters around here is Green, and now more than ever…..the Gas House Gang runs………..This City!!

Stomper: “Two big turns in one night, you got guts kid.”

Me: “Well Uncle Derek, from the reaction I would say they were both a success and it definitely got some heat.”

Stomper: “I’ll give you that….You know you still really haven’t booked that one dynamite match Terry, but you’re shows are consistent from top to bottom and I think they are still good enough to get people interested."

Me: “I hope so……I just wish we would have drawn another 100 or so tonight.”

Stomper: “Be patient…..Because as long as I am not losing money…I will be, so don’t screw it up!”

Uncle Derek left and I sat down exhausted, he was right, we were not getting those big matches, but tonight’s show was consistent and I had to think that would help. Plus Black Hat had told me before the show he would be mentoring Marv Statler, so it was apparent the veterans were willing do what was needed to bring the next generation along.

Stomper: “When are you going to be finished, we want to get some breakfast Terry?”

Me: “you can go eat Uncle Derek, Aprils final numbers are not going to change based on how many Bagels you eat.”

Stomper: “Listen wiseass, I want to enjoy my breakfast and not sit there thinking about money the whole time. Besides, if your big production for City Slam 1 cost me too much then Bo is buying breakfast.”

Black Hat: “Derek, you would find a way to have me buy breakfast if you fell into a well full of 100 dollar bills, so let’s just say I’m buying and go eat.”

Me: “No need, I’m finished….We lost 557 dollars in April, not really bad when you think about it. Our balance is still 101,073 dollars, so we are still ahead of the game year to date.”

Stomper: “So really what you’re saying, is if you didn’t hire that crappy band and that idiot from the Howard Stern show we would have made about 500 dollars!”

Black Hat: “Oh come on Derek, now the band I could have done without, but I loved having Richard Christy at the show and the fans did too. That kid is pretty damn funny…..strange but funny.”

Stomper: “Well I wouldn’t know Bo; I never got a chance to talk to him since he had his damn mouth stuffed with Cheese Cake every time I passed him. Hell, we would have done even better because I bet he ate about 50 bucks worth of food all by himself.”

Black Hat: (Laughing) “You know, he does love Cheese Cake, they used to bust his chops about that all the time. Hey Terry, next time you see Triple D ask him to say ‘I like Cheesecake’ he sounds just like Richard Christy!! Man I love those calls him and Sal make, have you ever heard the Tradio calls Terry, they really give those guys fits that…”

Stomper: “Dammit Bo enough about Mr. Cheesecake, can we go friggin eat now?”

Me: “Hang on Uncle Derek, our Radio ad for Mayhem should be on any minute now..”

Stomper: “What??? I told you no more expensive advertising, I swear to god I am going to kick you right off the Brooklyn Bridge one of these days..”

Me: “Uncle Derek, relax it was free. I met one of the DJ’s at a little AM station at City Slam and he said he would put us over for free tickets to Mayhem.”

Stomper: “Well, that ain’t really free is it Terry, because that’s a couple of tickets we are not getting paid for.”

Me: “Well actually it was six tickets, but we always have a couple of hundred empty seats anyway, so what the hell.”

Stomper: “SIX, well great, why don’t you invite him backstage and he can eat all the damn Cheese Cake too!”

Me: “Wait, wait, here it comes……”

“Hey Head bangers, this is Crazy Cabby and that was Accept with ‘Balls to the Wall’ and speaking of balls to wall, for all you pro wrestling fans out there, don’t forget to check out New York City Wrestling a week from this coming Saturday in crazy, crazy Queens. The main event will be a three way dance for the NYCW Empire Championship between Black Hat Bailey, Donnie J and Handsome Stranger, plus Whistler has a score to settle with Steve Flash and Honest Frank and rumor has it he is looking for a partner to put those two in their place. It’s wild, it’s crazy, it’s New York City wrestling! Now back to the music..”

Stomper: “Wow and all that cost was 6 tickets?? That idiot sounds like he’s auditioning for a job to sell Water Beds! Let’s go eat Bo!”

I didn’t care what Uncle Derek thought, free was free in my eyes. Looking at the latest on TEW.com I noticed that we got a mention for signing Jared Johnson, while my old Buddy Grandmaster Phunk signed a developmental deal with RIPW, good thing I didn’t pursue him. Mainstream Hernandez signed with 4C, while CZCW picked up both Fumihiro Ota and American Elemental. Not making the website, but just as important for me was the fact that I was able to extend Steve Flash's contract for another 9 months, meaning my planned feud between him and Whistler would have a nice run.

Quite a few retirements with Suzue Katayama, Mephisto, Nikki Power, Dick the Devastator, Liberty and Jackson Andrews all calling it quits. Liberty kind of surprised me as he is only 39 and seemed to be a staple of USPW, but he was done none the less. No real scandals, just a note about Erne Turner putting over David Poker in RIPW, obviously trying to smooch his way onto the SWF roster. TCW also signed a PPV deal in Japan, which could be huge in their quest to catch SWF. Me, I had smaller dreams, like maybe holding a show in Philadelphia by the end of the year, or maybe snagging a 2:00am TV slot on some cable channel that maybe reached viewers in 3 or 4 different states and came on right before a Chuck Norris infomercial for the total body Gym……Yeah, that would be good.

It was hard to believe that my 5th show was here and the year was almost half over. I was counting on the two top matches to carry Mayhem, while using the undercard to do some transitioning and feature the long awaited debut of the Rayne Man, who prior to now I did not really have solid plans for. The best part though was how much more relaxed I was with City Slam 1 behind me and no major fallout from the turns of Flash and Cage. Well, actually there was some minor drama. Black Hat believed that Steve Flash would fit in with the Gas House Gang motif better if he got rid of his trademark Mullett. It took a week of cajoling, but Steve finally parted with his beloved Joe Dirt locks and managed to do so without shedding a tear. (I had Popsicles ready just in case)

Triple D and Kentucky Bill vs Rick Sanders and Richie Riggins
Triple D and Bill hit it off like long lost cousins and form decent enough Tag team, that I may consider making them a regular pairing. The match is not bad as Riggins shows he is a quick study in applying the weasel tactics Rick is famous for. His cheating does not spare him from the wrath of Triple D however, who puts him to bed with a brutal Dazzle Driver.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Dazzling Dave Diamond and Kentucky Bill defeated Richie Riggins and Rick Sanders in 10:30 when Dazzling Dave Diamond defeated Richie Riggins by pinfall with a Dazzle Driver

Main Show

vs
Rayne Man vs Lee Wright
The crowd is eager for the debut of Rayne Man, but Lee Wright is just as eager to destroy the hoopla and he promptly goes about breaking Rayne Man down, one body part at a time. Wright pauses only long enough to mock his opponents name with unflattering imitations of the handicapped, which draw the ire of the crowd. It is during one of these exhibitions of classlessness, that Whistler charges in and hits the Rebel Yell while Referee Michael Bull was checking on Rayne Man, who had been hurled to the floor. Regaining his senses, Rayne Man locks the “Rayne Fall” on the still groggy Wright and steals the win!
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Rayne Man defeated Lee Wright in 11:32 by submission with a Rayne Fall after interference from Whistler.

As the ring clears, Whistler comes back out and places his flag on a stand in the center of the ring. “You know, there was a time when I believed in people and that everyone had some good in them. Now, as I stand here before you I feel alone, isolated….A prisoner, just like Francis Scott Key when he penned those immortal words while straining to catch just a glimpse of old glory as its tattered remnants were periodically illuminated..”
Honest Frank: “Oh wah, wah, wah….Shut the hell up will you please!” As Whistler turns to face Frank, Steve Flash attacks from behind and both men work Whistler over, before each hit their finishing move.

With Whistler motionless after being nailed with both the Frank n Hurter and the Flash Bang, Honest Frank walks up to the flag, starts to salute it, then spits on it. He then pulls a small can of lighter fluid from his pocket and douses Whistlers beloved flag. Steve Flash then produces a lighter, and as Whistler starts to come to and cries in vain for him to stop, Flash sets the flag ablaze. Frank and Flash then beat a hasty retreat for the locker room as a near riot ensues. One fan throws a chair at the retreating duo, while another hops the rail and takes a kick to the midsection from Frank for his troubles. Meanwhile in the ring, a frantic elderly woman tries to save the flag by throwing her soda on the flames, but it is in vain as the Flag is completely destroyed.

The New York Doll vs Marv Statler
Statler has to deal with not only The Doll, but the threat of Streetz and Edward Cornell throughout the match, but he manages to stay one step ahead of the Young Moguls and their Manager using an impressive array of aerial moves complimented by solid mat wrestling as the trio reach their boiling point. With Statler set to bring the New York Doll out of the corner with a Bulldog, Cornell nailed him in the back of the head with a Chair, bringing an immediate disqualification. The Young Moguls were not done however, as they hoisted Statler up onto their shoulders then delivered a tandem Power Bomb through a table Streetz had set up outside the ring and onto the concrete floor.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Marv Statler defeated The New York Doll in 10:43 when The New York Doll was disqualified when Edward Cornell ran in and attacked Marv Statler.

Black Hat Bailey joins Rock Downpour for an interview: “Did somebody burn some Toast?”
Rock: “Black Hat, I don’t think any of these good people find that funny in the slightest, to burn the American Flag is blasphemy.”
Black Hat: “You know what Rock….You’re right. And you know what else blasphemy is? For me to have to come out here later tonight and give those two Johnny come latelys, those two snot nosed punks Donnie J and Handsome Stranger another shot at tarnishing my Empire Belt!! I am the Godfather of NYCW, the leader of the syndicate that runs this town, the Gas House Gang! Yet I get caught up in their little lovers spat over who is the fairest of them all, who is going to get to wear the chartreuse trunks and whose damn spray on tan looks better? Wrong! Roger Cage vs Sammy the Shark – NYCW Tri-State Regional Title
Cage approaches Sammy before the bell and speaks softly to him, then extends his hand…..Sammy finally reaches to accept the gesture and Cage cheap shots him again! Sammy loses his temper and quickly recovers to send Cage scampering for higher ground and as he returned, Sammy mockingly held the ropes open for him, which of course Cage did not go for. Some good back and forth action ensued, but Cage’s arrogance let Sammy escape a near pinfall and eventually regain control. The Shark brought forth the fury and had Cage out on his feet and ready to go when Cornell and The New York Doll attacked Sammy as Streetz distracted the Referee, allowing Cage to hit the Cage Rage and vanquish his former partner again!
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Roger Cage defeated Sammy the Shark in 16:42 by pinfall with a Cage Rage. During the match we also saw Edward Cornell run in and attack The Shark, and The New York Doll also attack The Shark. Roger Cage makes defense number 1 of his NYCW Tri-State Regional title.

vs
Samoan Machine vs Jared Johnson
The Machine continues to cut his swath of destruction through NYCW, though he does have some moments of trouble from the talented Double J, who display some sound skills on the mat and at times outshines Samoan Machine technically. Johnson’s problem is that he cannot match his opponent in the power department and is soon worn down by sheer brute force. The Samoan driver that finishes the match brings a gasp from the crowd and leaves Johnson down for several minutes.
In a match that had some good action and average heat, Samoan Machine defeated Jared Johnson in 9:19 by pinfall with a Samoan Driver.

Whistler comes out, takes a microphone and sits on the ring steps. As he begins to speak, tears well up in his eyes. “Tonight, I lost a piece of myself when Honest Frank and Steve Flash burned my flag. I have carried that flag with me for close to 20 years and it was more than just a prop, more than just an identity or a gimmick. It was part of my soul and what you did tonight rips that part out of me….Gone forever. There will be hell to pay for what you two did, and the man that is going to help me collect is probably the last man you want to piss off when it comes to disrespecting this great country!”

Whistler & American Patriot vs Honest Frank & Steve Flash
Whistler and Patriot don’t even wait for Flash and Frank to make it to the ring, meeting their opponents in the entry way. Neither side holds anything back and within minutes both Flash and Whistler are bleeding, as the batter each other with anything not mailed down. Eventually the action returns to the ring, where the crowd pops big after Frank and Flash are double Irish whipped into each other and both go down. With things looking bad for the Heels, Frank loads his shoe up and nails Patriot with a shot to the groin. Whistler then grabs Frank by the feet and pulls him from the ring, attempting to rip the shoe off and show the referee. Steve Flash seizes the moment and rolls Patriot, who is gasping for breath, up in a small package. Bull makes the count as Flash grabs a hand full of tights to insure Patriot’s shoulders stay down.
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Honest Frank and Steve Flash defeated American Patriot and Whistler in 14:41 when Steve Flash defeated American Patriot by pinfall with a handful of tights.

With the match over Frank clocks both Patriot and Whistler with his loaded shoe, laying both men out. He and Flash then celebrate by laying the boots, with Lee Wright joining in on the fun for good measure. Rayne Man, watching form the back is suddenly overcome by a sense of duty and sprints to the ring, furiously cleaning house with three beautiful drop kicks that send each of the Gas House Gang members flying over the top rope.

Black Hat Bailey vs Donnie J vs Handsome Stranger – NYCW Empire Championship
It is apparent early that Donnie J will be the target of both men and he takes a beating in the early going. Black Hat goes for a big clothesline on Donnie, who is laying on the ropes, but Donnie ducks at the last minute and propels Black Hat to the floor with a back drop. This turns the focus on Donnie J and Handsome Stranger and they tear down the ring with fast paced back and forth brawling, that features some stiff bumps and plenty of twists and each pulls off amazing counters to escape the others finisher. Black Hat finally recovers and drops Donnie J from behind with a huge forearm. Picking J up, Bailey delivers a pile driver and covers Donnie, looking for the win. Handsome Stranger then pulls Bailey off and covers Donnie himself, getting a two count before Black Hat pulls him off. Bailey and Stranger begin to argue and Black Hat then pushes Handsome Stranger through the ropes in anger. Before he can turn back around, Donnie J slides in and rolls the Champion up with a quick schoolboy and Michael Bull hits the 3 count, giving NYCW a new Empire Champion!!!
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Donnie J defeated Black Hat Bailey and Handsome Stranger in 19:21 when Donnie J defeated Black Hat Bailey by pinfall with a fast roll up. Donnie J wins the NYCW Empire title.

Stomper: “Well kid, good show and I think this will increase our popularity, but for god’s sake, don’t let Handsome Stranger call a match in the ring. Just because he knows fine Italian suits, doesn’t mean he knows psychology. You know the angles did match the in ring action either need a better balance there Terry."

Me: “But Uncle Derek, the place was ready to riot when Flash set the Flag on fire, how do I get more heat than that with an angle?”

Stomper: “You got a lot to learn kid; there is a difference between pissing people off and getting heat. Flash and Frank are probably not safe on the street for a couple of days because of that…”

Me: “You could have told me to tone it down.”

Stomper: “What and ruin my fun?”

I got the ambiguous wink again as Uncle Derek headed off to grab a late night snack with our former Emipre Champion.

Got me hooked, following.

As someone who has never played TEW, what part is game narrative and what is your addition? I am sure this is obvious and a n00bish question to anyone who has played the game but this sounds, fun?

Thanks, glad to have another reader.

In terms of the promos and angles the game will generate a very generic discription. Example of the flag burning it would say "Honest Frank and Steve Flash come out and set Whistlers national flag on fire" So on angles and promos I do all the writing.

In terms of the matches the game generates the bolded part at the end where it talks about crowd reaction and in ring work and I write up the descriptions of the matches.

Scoop Slam – Inside Pro Wrestling June 2010

World Level Wrestling growing
WLW was given Japan’s big three a fourth power with their rise to Cult level last month. It is expected the jump in stature will produce a mini talent raid of other Japanese promotions as WLW look to become a major player in the land of the rising sun.

Other news out of Japan sees a new owner of PGHW as Seiji Jimbo takes the reins of Japan’s number two promotion. Jimbo’s first move after taking charge was to turn the book over to Canadian Alexander Robinson, which has raised some eyebrows, despite Robinson long tenure with PGHW as a wrestler.

The current growth in Japan has also given rise to a new promotion as EX2010 opened their doors in May. The promotion, owned by Kuemon Hotta and booked by Sensational Ogiwara will feature “explosive action” and will focus on up and coming talent such as Spider Yakuta, Morimasa Kato and Kenko Takemitsu.

Sean set to “McFly”
Rumors from Canada indicate Sean McFly has turned down NOTBPW’s latest contract offer, with insiders saying McFly believes he has outgrown the promotion. This news come on the heels of McFly’s back injury, which is expected to keep him out of action for another 2 months.

Sick Bumps
Speed D of WLW joins McFly on this month’s list of walking wounded after suffering a torn Stomach muscle, which should keep him out through the end of June.

Sunset
Jaguar Endo, Saeko Hiroyuki and Preston Holt have all announced their retirement from Wrestling.

On the Tube
SWF and America-Sports-1 have announced plans to renew SWF Uprising next season, while TCW’s Saturday Night Showcase will also return on the same network, making for some interesting competition.

I place the newsletter on my desk and retrieve my trusty notebook to finish fleshing out my plans for our June show “Manhattan Project” when I get a knock on the door.

Larry Vessey enters and pulls up a chair….”Listen Terry, I know we have clashed a couple of times, but I want you to know I get what you are trying to do and know that it is best for the company.”

Me: “Thanks Larry, it means a lot to have your support, but there is still a place for the veterans and I want you to know you still have a role here.”

Larry: “Well, I really don’t. I am just here to put the young guys over and I just don’t feel like hanging on and having that be my legacy. To be honest, I just need a break and so I am hanging up the tights.”

Me: “You sure?”

Larry: “100%, consider this my notice….”

Me: “Well, if you are sure then I only wish you the best Larry, but I would like to send you off on style.”

Larry: “What, jobbing to Regular Joe?”

Me: “No, a retirement match against Black Hat Bailey, two legends going at it one more time at the Manhattan Project show, in fact you two can open the show.”

Larry: “Believe it or not…..I appreciate that Terry, that shows me you respect the business, thank you.”

I watched Larry leave and though it was sad to see a good career ending, his presence will not be missed on the locker room, where he was generally an ill-tempered dick. I picked up the phone and called Uncle Derek.

Stomper: “Is that you Terry?”

Me: “Wow, you figured out how to answer your cell phone?”

Stomper: “If I could figure out a way to send my fist through the phone you’d have a bloody nose right now.”

Me: “I was kidding, but the reason I am calling is Larry Vessey is retiring.”

Stomper: “You know, I suspected this might coming, hell Vessey has always been a miserable sonofabitch, but lately he has been almost unbearable sometimes….so you gonna bury him?”

Me: “Actually Black Hat wasn’t scheduled to work Manhattan Project, so I am going to book a farewell match for Larry with him.”

Stomper: “You gotta learn to be more of a bastard Terry, I would have jobbed him out to Kentucky Bill.”

Me: “Isn’t he your friend?”

Stomper: “Yeah but he’s a prick and if I didn’t like him I would have jobbed him out to you.”

Me: “Wow, OK. Hey listen, I left $14 in your desk drawer…..”

Stomper: “What the hell for?”

Me: “That was our profit for May and you are going to need it to buy me Dinner since you bet we would lose money…..Don’t worry though, that won’t be enough to cover the tab.”

Stomper: “You sonofa…”

Oops, must have lost my signal.

I was getting ready to send out the last batch of posters for our Manhattan Project show when Uncle Derek Popped in.

Me: "Hey Uncle Derek, how goes it? Just getting ready to send the last batch of posters out."

Stomper: "Good, but listen, I need to tell you a couple of things. You have heard about PCCW opening in California?"

Me: "Yeah, Heidi Brooks started it up right?"

Stomper: "Yes she did and she asked me for some help."

Me: "Help with what?"

Stomper: "With getting things up and running, so I will be doing some Road agent work for her. She also asked about some talent, so I got Honest Frank, Whistler and Lee Wright pay per appearance deals and Michale Bull is going to book for her."

Me: "What? You mean in essence you are opening NYCW West, I thought this was your pride and joy?"

Stomper: "Terry, relax, her shows will be the 4th Friday of every month and there is only one scheduled right now, so there is no conflict. Plus this give some of the guys another payday."

Me: "OK, I guess I overreacted and I apologize. I should have known you would always put NYCW first."

Stomper: "It is, but Black Hat is going to have to start handling the road agent duties. TCW just got their Saturday night showcase TV show going and I will be the primary agent for that. You have things stable here and Tommy is giving mw a nice chunk of change, which will help me in my retirement fund, so I need to do this. I trust you enough to not screw things up or I would not have done it."

Me: "Have you lost your F***ing mind? You will not be at our only show of the month just to boost your IRA?"

Stomper: (Loses it) "First off Terry, you talk to me like that again and you will be part of the damn pavement outside. NYCW is my pride and joy and you should be flattered I would entrust things to you and even consider doing what I am doing you little bastard. What I do for my retirement is not your concern, you are here to book MY company and if you can't do that then maybe you should find another place to work!!"

I am floored, in a classic heat reversal I am the bad guy and can hit the road if I don't like it? I just don't get my Uncles line of thinking, but one thing I do get is that I need a full time road agent, not Black Hat jumping in. Well, he did hire me to book so I will do just that and the first thing I will do after Manhattan project, will be to hire another road agent.....Afterall, he did say he trusted me.

NYCW – Manhattan Project – Week 2 June 2010

Pre-Show
Average Joe vs Land Mass
Land Mass can’t even keep up with the younger Joe, who struggles to handle his bulk, but easily wears him down with speed and hits the Joe and Behold for the win.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction but featured terrible wrestling, Regular Joe defeated Land Mass in 5:34 by pinfall with a Joe and Behold.
Rating: E-

Edward Cornell vs Animal Harker
Cornell, with Streetz at ringside took it to Harker early and duped the Animal into several mistakes by taking advantage of his intellect. Harker finally lost it and went on a rampage pummeling Cornell and at one point sending him sliding under the bottom rope and into Streetz arms, which brought some less than flattering remarks from the crowd. Regaining his composure, Cornell caught Harker trying to come off the top ropes and crotched him on the turnbuckle, pulling him down and transitioning nicely into a black Lightning Bomb.
In an extremely poor match, Edward Cornell defeated Animal Harker in 10:28 by pinfall with a Black Lightning Bomb.
Rating: E+

Main Show

As Larry Vessey walks to the ring for his final match, a music video is shown which some old footage Stomper was able to dig up. Despite the fact is generally a miserable person, seeing some old match footage brings a smile to Larry’s face as the crowd gives him a nice ovation.
Rating: D-

vs
Larry Vessey vs Black Hat Bailey
After a slow feeling out process the two veterans go at it and surprisingly, Black Hat keeps it clean for the most part as the two men put on an exhibition of good technical 80’s style wrestling. Of course, this continues only until Bailey feels threatened at which point he lands a low blow and then tries his best to rip Vessey’s arm from its socket. Larry stages a late rally and attempts to go for a suplex mid ring, but Bailey blocks it, then rolls him up to go over clean in the center of the ring.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Black Hat Bailey defeated Larry Vessey in 8:29 by pinfall.
Rating: E+

Black Hat Bailey extends his hand after the match and as Vessey takes it he pats him on the back……Then delivers a Russian leg sweep as Honest Frank and Steve Flash storm the the ring. The beat down is on and Vessey is sent off into the sunset with a healthy dose of shoe leather, before Whistler runs in from the back and drives the Gas House Gang away with his new Flagpole. As the Gas House Gang reaches the back Bailey grabs a microphone. “Hey Vessey, I couldn’t find a gold watch for you, so consider those bruises our farewell gift to you…..Happy trails punk!!” The three men then disappear into the back laughing.

vs
Marv Statler vs The Masked Mauler
The Mauler spends a good portion of the early going avoiding any prolonged contact with Statler, while trying to menace the crowd. Statler finally takes matter into his own hands and hip tosses Mauler into the ring form the apron and gives him wrestling lesson, culminating in an atomic drop that send Mauler hopping around the ring like the Easter bunny. The Mauler comes back and latches onto to Statler with a Claw hold, but Marv is able to break free, slip behind Mauler after the latter tries to scoop him up for a slam, and nail the Backdrop Backbreaker.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Marv Statler defeated The Masked Mauler in 12:03 by pinfall with a Backdrop Backbreaker.

Handsome Stranger is backstage with Herb Stately. “You know Herb, I must tell you, your Hair; it is immaculate, so rich and full. Not as stylish and suave as mine, but very nice nonetheless.”

Herb: “Thank you, but what about Donnie J, that guy annoys the hell out of me, please tell me you are going thrash him tonight within an inch of his life.”

Stranger: “Roger, surely you jest. So long I have waited for this moment, he and I alone, the greatest prize on the east coast soon to be mine. My only fear is that I will not be able to please all the ladies that will now want to come to the palace of the Handsome Stranger and partake of all his goodness……Take a good look at these fine abdominal muscles…..It will be almost a shame to cover them with my new Championship belt later this evening.”

vs
Dean Waldorf vs Samoan Machine
Waldorf ignores the Samoan Machine, who performs the Haka prior to the match in an attempt to intimidate date him and instead attacks Machine before the bell rings to the delight of the crowd. Waldorf gets the better of the Machine at every turn, but once again power conquers style as Waldorf’s run is abruptly ended with a vicious Power slam. In world of hurt, Waldorf barely escapes the Samoan Driver and scores a near pin on a sunset flip. Streetz is now at ringside and as Waldorf gets Samoan Machine up for a body slam near the ropes, Streetz yanks his feet out from under him and Machine falls on top of Waldorf and gets the three count.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Samoan Machine defeated Dean Waldorf in 9:50 by pinfall after a distraction from Streetz.
Rating: D-

As he regains his senses Dean is furious. “Streetz, you can dress yourself up like P Diddy and come out here with your swagger, rapping like some cheap Jay Z knockoff. But the bottom line is you’re a nickel and dime street hustler with no cred, no game and you damn sure don’t have Beyonce on your arm. But what you do have now is a problem and let me put it in a way you will understand……I’m gonna make you my bitch!!

vs
Roger Cage © vs Dazzling Dave Diamond – NYCW Tri-State Title
Triple D is in rare form, pulling a lady out the crowd to square dance, swigging on the Beer of a fan in a Peterbilt hat (Maybe the only one in New York City) and whooping it up, right until Cage shuts him up with a clothesline. Triple D gets the worst of it early, but soon rallies and nails Cage three times running with his patented flying head scissors, which the crowd enjoys immensely. Cage returns fire with a series of wicked chops and struts around the ring as Diamond writhes in pain in the corner. Cages time wasting again costs him as Diamond hits a Bulldog and hoists him up for the Dazzle Driver, as Edward Cornell slides into the ring and takes Diamonds knee out. Cage then hits an elbow off the top rope and covers Diamond as Bull makes the count, 1…2…3!
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Roger Cage defeated Dazzling Dave Diamond in 15:35 by pinfall with a Cage Rage following interference from The New York Doll. During the match we also had Edward Cornell run in and attack Triple D. Roger Cage makes defense number 2 of his NYCW Tri-State Regional title.
Rating: E+

Streetz joins Edward Cornell in the ring and lifts the microphone to speak, but Cornell stops him and takes the microphone from his manager. “Streetz, no disrespect man you’ve kept it real with Roger, but he ain’t even told us boo yet. Cage, I know where you are coming from my man. You are a talented bad ass dude, you’ve got some moxy, you’ve got the look, but you don’t have an identity. You were stuck cleaning up Sammy the Sharks messes and for what? He was too busy with his belt to think about a Tag team title match, or maybe helping you get a shot at the Empire title……You were in his shadow.”

Cage: “Roger Cage walks in nobodies shadow and I did what I did for friendship, which in the end got me jack. You guys talk about swagger and street smarts and the future. While my future is now, I don’t need some slick street poet and a young punk with a silver spoon in his mouth to tell me about how it should be. I’ve got street smarts, I’ve got charisma and that’s a word you can’t even rhyme with Streetz, so tell me what you can do for somebody who is too fresh, too slick, too cool for school and definitely too cool for this rat hole called NYCW. My future is beyond here, but unlike you Eddie Silver Spoon, I can’t call my cousin when I want to come home to TCW, I have to earn it!”

Edward: “You think it's a cake walk being a Cornell? You think I can go anywhere and do anything I please because I come from the Kennedy’s of professional wrestling? It’s hell being a Cornell Cage!! Tommy did this, Tommy is great, don’t embarrass the family, Tommy walks on water, will you ever be as good as Tommy? Screw Tommy and screw everybody and their expectations!! I came here to make my own name and together with Doll and Streetz we are, and will be the future of NYCW and there is room for you with us, don’t be a fool Cage!”

Cage: “Not interested!” With that he leaves the ring again as Streetz and Cornell look at each other in disbelief.

The Gas House Gang vs American Patriot, Whistler & Rayne Man.
Whistler wants Flash to start but Steve sends Lee Wright out and the brawl is on. Wright attacks first, but Whistler blocks his shots and Irish whips him into Flash who is arguing with the crowd. Bull signals Flash was tagged and must enter the ring. Flash resists and Whistler takes matters into his own hands, pulling him over the top rope. Before long all 6 men are brawling as Michael Bull struggles to keep control of the battle. Whistler hits a Rebel yell on Flash and covers him as Rayne man jumps on to the second rope to count with the referee, as he does so Black Hat Bailey appears and pushing him into the ring and has hand hits Whistlers back as he falls in. Bull rules it a tag and orders Whistler out of the ring. As the two men argue Lee Wright clotheslines Rayne Man and drags Flash to the corner where he tags Honest Frank as Bull turns around. Frank hits the Frank-N-Hurter on Rayne Man and once again the Gas House Gang has found a way to escape with a win.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Steve Flash, Honest Frank and Lee Wright defeated American Patriot, Whistler and Rayne Man in 16:06 when Honest Frank defeated Rayne Man by pinfall with a Frank-N-Hurter following interference from Black Hat Bailey.
Rating: D

In the ensuing commotion, Steve Flash goes after Whistler's flag again and this time Whistler reaches him first and it is on once again. With the other combatants going at it outside the Ring Whistler hits another Rebel Yell on Flash, covers him with the flag, pretends to shovel dirt on him, then removes the flag and spits in Flashes face as he lies motionless in the ring.

Donnie J © vs Handsome Stranger - NYCW Empire Title
Stranger is determined to win this time and he comes in well prepared, catching the Champion early with a brutal Powerbomb and slowly breaking him down with a drop kick to the knee and a rear Chinlock that nearly breaks Donnie J in two. The Champion is resilient though and storms back, whipping Handsome Stranger into the corner, mounting the turnbuckle and pounding away as the crowd counts the punches. A missile drop kick sends Stranger flying and also takes out referee Michael Bull who was caught in the crossfire. Donnie J tries to revive him, but to no avail, so he turns his attention back to Stranger, who pokes him in the eyes. As Donnie J recovers, Handsome Stranger goes to a turnbuckle and recovers a roll of quarters he had hidden there earlier. As he goes to nail Donnie J, the Champ blocks his punch, grabs the quarters from his hand and levels Handsome Stranger with a shot to the jaw as coins fly everywhere. He covers the Stranger, but is greeted by the sound of the bell instead, as referee Bull witnessed the punch and disqualifies the Champion!
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Handsome Stranger defeated Donnie J in 18:40 by disqualification. Donnie J retains the belt due to a disqualification.

Land Mass comes up to me after the show and admits that he has lost the fire, which shows in his work. He asks for another position with the company as he feels his days as a Wrestler are done. I couldn’t agree with him more and let him know I will think about it. That’s a lie as my decision is already made, he will be released Monday.

Black Hat: “I overheard you and Land Mass talking, too bad, but in truth it is overdue. It’s hard to get old in this business kid.”

Me: “I can only imagine, the shame is I have no roles for him as he certainly can’t manage the road agent duties and there is just nothing else to do.”

Black Hat: “Don’t get sentimental Terry, its only business…Granted I hated it too, which is why I quit doing it, but it doesn’t change what it is. Hey, I do have some feedback, I think you need to remember to keep Triple D in short matches, that crazy sucker uses so much energy in his entrances he is gassed by the 10 minute mark, not that I have room to talk. We have got to get the heat up on the angles too and I think you may want to back off on the flag angles, those seem to be turning the crowd off.”

Me: “Thanks Bo, I appreciate it….Plus it’s nice not getting yelled at.”

Black Hat: (laughing) “Hey you know me….A big lovable Heel in a Black Bowler….And don’t get down, the crowd still liked the show and our attendance is going up every month….that’s all you can ask for.”

Black Hat was much nicer to deal with as a Road Agent than Uncle Terry, maybe this whole TCW thing was not that bad afterall. I did realize another thing that Bo did not mention and that was our Pre-Show needs to be stronger. I would fix that for Red, White and Bruised in July.

Nothing like a New York summer and I was anxious for our July show, "Red, White and Bruised' to get here as I had just finished June’s numbers and they were not good. Due to a horrific month of merchandise sales and worker costs just under $23,000 for “Manhattan Project” we lost $2,655.00 for the month, despite our highest gate of the year. I looked over at Uncle Derek, taking a mid morning nap on the couch and debated how I was going to break the news to him. Even though we still had over $98 K in the company coffers, Uncle Derek would dive into the sewer if he dropped a quarter into it and he was not going to happy.

I decided to take a walk around the block and as I left the office and started down the stairs I ran into Samoan Machine.

Machine: “Hey brah, how goes it?”

Me: “Hi Bali, how are you?”

Machine: “I’m good brah, but I have to talk to you about a couple of things.”

Me: “Could one of those things be the deal you just signed with Pride Glory Honor Wrestling?”

Machine: “Yeah it is…..You know I now work for three companies in Japan and am working at least two days a week over there. In fact brah, I have to fly out right after our show this month to join the PGHW tour that kicks off Sunday. Brah, you gave me a huge push and I want to say thank you for all you have done, but after Red, White and Bruised I will be leaving the company. I just need to focus on where I am making the most money and the travel is just too much brah.”

Me: “Hey I understand Bali, and totally support you. You have been a great worker here and I appreciate the effort you have given us.”

Machine: “Mahalo…..Hey is your Uncle in there, I would like to thank him too.”

Me: (Laughing) “He is, but we lost money last month and he is taking a nap. If he wakes up he will be in a bad mood and then he will ask me how we did and I will have to tell him, which will put him in an even worse mood and then…………”

Machine: (Laughing) “I hear ya brah….Will you tell him for me…”

Me: “And you are the monster heel……Still afraid to job to the Stomper eh?”

Machine: “Brah, I don’t think he is called Stomper because he is a good dancer.”

Me: “Ok tough guy, I’ll let him know….”

Machine: (Smiling) “Mahalo.”

I watched Bali walk down the stairs and realized I was going to miss him. For as scary as he was in the ring, he was one of the nice guys in the business and always did things the right way…As he neared the bottom of the stairs I called after him…. ”Bali……..Good luck over there buddy.”

He gave me the hang loose sign and disappeared around the corner. Suddenly, I was overcome with a wave of brilliance and decided I needed a day off. I called a Taxi to come pick me up and take me to Central Park, then quietly tiptoed into the office and jotted a note down for Uncle Derek, before heading off to enjoy a beautiful day, more than content to postpone my ass chewing for later.

Quote:
Uncle Derek,

Heading down to Central Park, thinking a day in the park will stir my creative juices for the upcoming show. Finished June numbers, we had our best gate ever, good sponsorship money too…..Things looking good attendance wise. We did lose a couple of grand, but I am sure we will get it back in no time.

Talk to you later
Terry

PS. Samoan Machine will be leaving after Red, White and Bruised, got another deal in Japan.

PSS. Have a great day!

You've done such a good job fleshing out the characters that I can actually see the steam come out of Stomper's ears when he reads the last "have a great day." Great work!

Two days had past and I was feeling pretty full of myself as I have managed to avoid the wrath of my Uncle completely, hadn't even heard from him in fact. After distributing the remaining posters for "Red, White and Bruised" I was tired and decided to grab a quick nap at the office before driving home. I was confident that my Uncle and Black Hat were well into their afternoon routine of Beer and Pool at this little dive they liked and had no problem dozing off.

My bliss was short lived as I was awoken by a large hand shoving something down my throat....."What the hell!!!" I instinctively reached for my mouth and realized the object so forcefully planted there was the note I had left my Uncle.

Stomper: "Want some Ketchup on that you little prick? If there is one thing I thought you would have learned by now it's that funny and losing money don't mix well with me. You better get merchandise sales fixed or I'll be having a going out of business sale on your ass Terry!"

As quickly as it started, with a slam of the door he was gone and I had learned one valuable lesson......Write all future notes to my Uncle on Fruit rollups, cause wherever he had been keeping that paper for the last two days had given it a hell of a nasty aftertaste!

LOL, thanks chesapeake, Stomper is quite the crotchety one and as you can see he did not let that last line go unpunished.

NYCW – Red, White and Bruised – Week 2 July 2010

Pre-Show
10 Man Battle Royal
We start things off with a special event for the first 100 fans to buy tickets as they are treated to a wild Battle Royal with some of our veterans and a handful of young guys. Whistler looked doomed being outnumbered at the end by three heels, but a clothesline of Cornell over the top, followed by a back drop of the charging Samoan left him and Honest Frank…..who wanted no part of Whistler. Both men ended up going over the top rope together, but Whistler hooked a leg on the bottom rope, slowing his descent just enough that he hit the floor after Frank to get the win.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Whistler won a battle royal in 10:01. The final four competitors also included Honest Frank, Samoan Machine and Edward Cornell, with Honest Frank being the final elimination.
Rating: D+

After the Battle Royal; Black Hat Bailey, Handsome Stranger, Honest Frank, Whistler, Edward Cornell, Kentucky Bill, The New York Doll and Rayne Man hung out to interact with the lucky 100 fans, signing autographs, chatting and poking fun at some of the regulars.

Whistler and American Patriot are shown chatting in the back on our ghetto video screen as the show starts. “Listen Patriot, you know tonight the Gas House Gang will be coming for me when I face Flash next…I need you to have my back brother, just like when the Marines hit Iwo Jima, I would take a bullet for you….Will you take it for me?”
Patriot: “True to the Red, White and Blue Whistler….True to the Red, White and Blue!!” The two men salute each other, embrace and then Whistler heads to the ring.

vs
Whistler vs Steve Flash – Dog Collar Match
Flash takes his time getting strapped into the Dog Collar, but once he does there is no hesitation using it as a weapon and Whistler is busted open early. Spurred by chants of USA, Whistler fights back and drops Flash with a wicked clothesline, using the Chain instead of his arm. The hatred shared by these two is apparent, as there is literally no technical wrestling and Flash soon joins Whistler in wearing the crimson mask. Whistler gains the upper hand and motions to the crowd for the Rebel Yell, when Honest Frank makes the scene, again using Whistlers flag pole against him, this time with a hard shot to the groin. Flash quickly hits the Flash Bang and once again Whistler comes up short!
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Steve Flash defeated Whistler in 14:27 by pinfall with a Flash Bang following interference from Honest Frank.
Rating: D

American Patriot saw what was about to happen to Whistler as Honest Frank appeared and raced out to intervene, but was caught by a clothesline from Lee Wright, who had been crouching just outside the backstage entrance. After a series of boots, Wright lifts Patriot and power bombs him off of the entrance ramp and onto the hard cement floor below. Patriot is left motionless and needs to be stretchered out.

vs
Samoan Machine vs Kentucky Bill
Samoan Machine dominates the rookie, who has heart and is tough as nails, but can’t get much of anything going against the Samoan monster. Dazzling Dave Diamond appears to spur his new friend on, whooping and hollering at ringside, clapping his hands and stomping his foot as he tries to motivate Bill. The crowd responds which angers Samoan Machine, who picks Bill up from a sure pin, slaps him several times, then walks to the ropes to scream at Triple D. With Samoan Machine completely thrown off by Diamonds impromptu one man square dance, Kentucky Bill sneaks up behind him and gets a School Boy rollup…..1, 2, 3…..It’s over!!! Diamond jumps into the ring and he and Bill do-si-do as Machine looks on in shock.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Kentucky Bill defeated Samoan Machine in 9:28 by pinfall after a distraction from Dazzling Dave Diamond.

Honest Frank appears again and grabs Rock Downpours microphone, pie facing our announcer as he does so. “Time once again New York City, for a dose of the honest truth! You see as part and parcel of the grand scheme of the Gas House Gang, I….the cerebral one have a multitude of reasons for proclaiming myself the soon to be new Empire Champion. Fact: I am smarter than Donnie J and the only proof you need here is that he can’t even spell his last name, so he has to use an initial!.......Fact: I am a legend on the east coast, I have seen it all, done it all and been it all, while Donnie J is merely a legend in his own mind…….Fact: I have the strength of the Gas House Gang behind me, the greatest force in wrestling today and you Donnie J, have cool sunglasses and legion of pre-pubescent school girls who are glad you only use J for your last name so they can spell it too. That my friend is the truth and tonight you are going to find out………..THE TRUTH HURTS!”

The Ring Generals © vs The Young Moguls – NYCW Tag Team Championship
Waldorf is still angered at Streetz after the Moguls Manager cost him his match with Samoan Machine last month, and spends way too much time jawing at him early on, which allows the Moguls to gain the early advantage by double teaming Statler. Waldorf finally regains his focus and goes on a tear, clobbering the New York Doll and nailing Cornell with a beautiful drop kick / rolling splash combination. Firmly in control the Champions give the brash upstarts a wrestling lesson. Poised to retain the belts as Waldorf sets up for the Salad Toss, Streetz jumps on the ring apron and Waldorf lets the New York Doll to go after him. Left along with both Moguls, Statler holds his own until Roger Cage appears from out of the crowd and nails him with the Cage Rage. The New York Doll follows this up with the Stock Ticker and to the amazement of all in attendance…..We have new NYCW Tag Team Champions!!!
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, The Young Moguls defeated The Ring Generals in 10:52 when The New York Doll defeated Marv Statler by pinfall with The Stock Ticker following interference from Roger Cage. The Young Moguls win the NYCW Tag Team titles.

Streetz enters the ring, where Roger Cage is watching the new Champions celebrate.
Streetz: “Waz up my man….At last you be seeing the future my nizzle, welcome top da…”

Cage: “Whoa, whoa, whoa….Hold up Streetz! That was not an RSVP to join crack head future. That was returning a favor and now that I have done that…..As you would so eloquently put it….We be even! You see, while you and the Back Street boys over there are content to reach the pinnacle of mediocrity here in NYCW, I belong on a bigger stage. SWF and TCW are my pinnacle and that is where I will be, rolling with the big boys, among my peers….Taking my seat at the big table. So enjoy your little Rookie League batting title, I will soon be taking my turn at bat in the big leagues. So please, quit trying to bring me down to your level and enjoy your small pond without me. Now hit the bricks, I have a show to put on.”

Roger Cage © vs Jared Johnson – NYCW Tri-State Regional Championship
Cage comes out hard early and works the much greener Johnson over, being sure to congratulate himself with every successful move and also managing to find time to call those in the crowd hacks and bush league groupies. His arrogance nearly costs him his title as Johnson counters a back drop with a sunset flip and gets a 2 and a half count on the Champion. This only serves to anger Cage however and seal Johnson’s fate as the Champion gets serious and delivers a brutal Cage Rage after a kick to the groin to brush aside Johnson’s game, but futile challenge.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Roger Cage defeated Jared Johnson in 13:40 by pinfall with a Cage Rage. Roger Cage makes defense number 3 of his NYCW Tri-State Regional title.

Roger Cage is celebrating his win and walks up to a couple of female fans at ringside who are holding out his picture for an autograph. He starts to sign, then rips up the picture and throws it at the girls, turning away laughing……Just in time to catch a flying elbow from Sammy the Shark! Sammy has been laying low, but is now back to exact vengeance on his former partner as he finishes Cage’s beat down by nailing him with an Ace in the Hole as the crowd cheers him on.

Black Hat Bailey has entered the arena and quickly grabs a microphone. “You know, I feel like I am in a glass case that has a sign over it that says ‘Break only in case a young punk needs his tail kicked’. Once again, I have to come out here tonight and face a young buck, an up and comer, a blue chipper…..blah, blah blah!” Bailey spits in disgust and continues, “Did Al Capone empty his own trash? How about this, did John Dillinger iron his own shirts? Oh wait, here’s one for you….Did Rudy Giuliani sleep with his own wife? The answer to all these questions is NO!!! So why is it that I, the leader of the most feared organization in wrestling have to do demean myself and wrestle these young punks? I guess at the end of the day, mine is not the reason why, mine is just to kick your ass Rayne Man, now get out here and let the beating commence!”

vs
Black Hat Bailey vs Rayne Man – Bowery Street Fight
Rayne Man sprints to the ring and after a series of arm drag takedowns has Bailey scrambling to the floor to regroup, as Rock Downpour reminds the crowd that the only way a Bowery Street Fight can end is by one wrestling taking a 10 count. Bailey as usual, soon goes to the foreign objects and clocks Rayne Man with a Black Jack getting a count of 9…..Furious Bailey chastises Bull for a slow count and resumes the mugging. Going for a chair next, Bailey misses a wild swing, spinning himself around in the process and taking an atomic drop from Rayne Man as a result. Frustrated Bailey again rolls to the floor as Lee Wright appears and hands him some Brass Knuckles. Confident he now has the win; Bailey waves Wright away and climbs back in the ring after delivering a Shoulder block to Rayne Man, who met him at the ropes. Bailey Winds up with the knucks, but Rayne Man blocks the punch, then nails a Rayne Drop out of nowhere onto the Steel Chair Bailey dropped earlier. Before the rest of the Gas House Gang can come to his rescue, Michael Bull has counted Bailey out and Rayne Man has taken down the head of the ‘Organization.’
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Rayne Man defeated Black Hat Bailey in 12:58 when Black Hat Bailey could not beat a ten count after a Rayne Drop onto a Steel Chair.

vs
Donnie J © vs Honest Frank – NYCW Empire Championship
This one gets ugly quick as Honest Frank cheap shots the Champ before the bell. Donnie J uses his speed advantage and is soon wrestling circles around the honest one, who promptly resorts to brawling to even the playing field. Donnie J does not back down and stands toe to toe with Big Frank, as they trade blows, before an Eye gouge puts Frank back in control. Donnie J ducks a clothesline and counters with a nice tilt-a-whirl Back Breaker and regains the upper hand, which brings Handsome Stranger to ringside. It is not long before Stranger interjects himself into the match and as referee Michael Bull and Donnie J are both pre-occupied with him, Honest Frank removes his shoe and loads up the heel. As Frank stands poised for Donnie J to turn back around, Whistler runs in, grabs the shoe and whacks Frank across the head with it, busting him open. After a hard right knocks Handsome Stranger to the floor, Donnie J turns his attention back to Frank, who has staggered to his feet, but is still woozy. Seizing the moment, Donnie J nails Frank with ‘A Death on Miami Beach’ to retain his Empire Title as Whistler cheers him on. After the bell Donnie gets in Honest Frank’s face as he lies prone in the ring and screams “Donnie J, that’s spelled J!”
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Donnie J defeated Honest Frank in 21:29 by pinfall with a Death on Miami Beach. During the match we also saw Handsome Stranger run in and attack Donnie J, and Whistler also attack Frank. Donnie J makes defense number 1 of his NYCW Empire title.

Backstage:
We match attendance exactly from last month’s show, but the overall feedback is better and I am thinking we have to be getting close to busting out a bit on the east coast to the point we can start travelling to other States. Uncle Derek pulls me aside and I instinctively cover my mouth, until I see he has nothing in his hand.

Stomper: “I have to tell, this show was a step up from last month for sure and almost on par with Rumble in the Bronx. You do know you are going to catch some gruff from folks in the industry and the wrestling rags for putting the Tag straps on the Young Moguls don’t you?”

Me: “I expect it Uncle Derek, but as technically sound as the Ring Generals are, they are just not capturing anybodies imagination. I know the Moguls are not the immediate answer, but a short run now should help them later and it also helps set up a key moment in another storyline, which I think we discussed.”

Stomper: “Yes and I have to commend you on that idea, it will definitely catch the fans off guard, you do have moments when you are not pissing me off that I see a glimmer of hope in for your in the business you little Bastard!”

Me: “Thanks I guess, hey Merchandise sales were not looking good earlier, but I did get us a little extra sponsor money this month, so I don’t think we will lose money again. Oh, I hope you are OK with my jobbing out Samoan Machine after that big push.”

Stomper: “Screw him, besides, I actually thought that was an entertaining match, Kentucky Bill has a future, though I don’t know if I can tolerate two friggin country bumpkins around here with him and Diamond! And you are at least following one credo I have around here…”

Me and Stomper together: “Nobody leaves NYCW on their feet!”

Another month another $190.00 profit, which constitutes breaking even, but then as long as we are not losing money, Uncle Derek is happy. I was putting together the final segments for the upcoming ‘Thunder in the East’ show and Uncle Derek was reading the Wrestling news.

Stomper: “I have to say if we can make it to regional status by September I will be happy, since it doesn’t really look like Wrestling is booming anywhere but in Japan right now.”

Me: “What else is going on Uncle Derek?”

Stomper: “Aw hell, what isn’t….Like I said, Japan is booming and WEXXV is now regional, nothing much else in the way of companies, except it says here that PSW and 4C now have a working agreement, both garbage promotions if you ask me, especially PSW with all that damn barbed wire and light bulbs and crap. Hey they mentioned Duncan Kendall coming on board to do road agent work ‘because Stomper feels his own company should take a back seat to the mighty TCW’…..Who writes this BS, I have a good mind to shove this rag down there throat, sonofabitch!!”

Me: “You sure like shoving things in people’s mouths Uncle D, I wouldn’t worry about it, though I do wish you were here doing the agent work. Hey do they mention the wrestler I am bringing in too?”

Stomper: “Yeah, I thought that was hush, hush, you can’t keep a damn thing from these friggin leeches! Hey, look at this, says Pat Deacon and Henry Lee are both retiring! I crossed paths with ‘Perfect Pat’ a couple of times back in the day. He was a helluva hand, I’ll tell you that.”

Me: “Wow, too bad Henry is going, I really did consider going after him a couple of times. Anything else newsworthy?”

Stomper: “Thought we had enough old bodies in your eyes, you just can’t make up your damn mind! Nothing else really going on, a bunch of ass kissing again over in RIPW with David Poker talking about how great Steel is, I wonder about that fella sometimes, he is pretty damn friendly to everyone.”

Just then there was a knock on the door and in walked Roger Cage….

Stomper: “You tell me you’re quitting I’ll whip your ass right here Cage.”

Cage: “Not quitting, but I did sign a pay per appearance deal with RIPW, just wanted you to know.”

Stomper: “Great, Eisen’s damn minor league, how long before you ass kiss your way to SWF and right out the door here then Roger?”

Cage: “Derek, I am not leaving, I just need to look at future opportunities, I think we can all agree that I do have potential beyond NYCW.”

Stomper: “Who the hell do you think you are, first, it’s Mr. Bradford to you and I think you are taking your character a little too seriously? You have a lot to learn before you can even think of carrying the jock strap of guys like Flash and Honest Frank....Mr. Big Leaguer.”

Cage: “What the hell, I am a model employee backstage, but you paint me as a bad guy because I have dreams beyond NYCW? Should I just be happy to wrestle once a month in the same building in front of the same building for my whole career?”

Me: “OK, let’s step back here. Uncle Derek, I don’t think Roger meant any disrespect, in fact I think the fact that he is staying here and only signed a pay per appearance deal with Rhode Island says that. Roger, I would not want a young wrestler that didn’t have goals, we have them too. I want NYCW to be on TV sometime next year and go to other states. Hell, my goal is to put on Super Slam in California some day. I want you and everyone else here to be part of that. I appreciate you letting us know and I am glad you will be sticking around here too.”

Roger: “Hey, I like it here; I just have to look out for my future…..That’s all.”

Stomper: “Well look over there then….That’s the door and your future will be through it for good if you screw up our bookings because of RIPW.”

Cage shot Uncle Derek a sideways look and headed out of the office, I waited until I heard the final echo of his steps on the stairs.

Me: “That was a bit much Uncle Derek, you can’t rip every kid that gets an opportunity, nobody will want to work here.”

Stomper: “Screw Cage, arrogant little prick, he thinks he is ready for the big time….He has no clue, hell he hasn’t even had the best match on any of the cards he has been on here, but he is going to take RIPW by storm and get the call up to SWF?”

Me: “I didn’t take it that way; he is just looking for exposure…”

Stomper: “Guys in raincoats down in Central Park are looking for exposure too, but what good does that do me?”

Me: “None……..Unless you want to see something like that?”

Stomper: "You go to hell!!! Now hand me one of the posters and booking notes for the August show!”

Me: “Here you go…We are in the final stretch of a couple of feuds and as you can see we are launching a couple of new ones.”[/

NYCW – Thunder in the East – Week 2 August 2010

Pre-Show

10 Man Battle Royal
Another pre-show reward for the first 100 ticket buyers, this is a see-saw affair that sees Whistler knocked out early by the Gas House gang, who have two members left in the final four. Frank and Remus team up on Sammy and get him over the top by hoisting him into the air. As they prepare to launch him onto the floor, Sammy wraps his legs around Frank and takes him with him with a brilliant Hurricanrana. Flash then sneaks up behind Remus and flips him out on top of the other two to win the $1000.00 prize.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Steve Flash won a battle royal in 10:22. The final four competitors also included Roderick Remus, Sammy the Shark and Honest Frank, with Roderick Remus being the final elimination.
Rating: D+

We follow this with our usual meet and greet, that includes Honest Frank, Donnie J, Rayne Man, Whistler, Edward Cornell, The New York Doll, Kentucky Bill and Jared Johnson. It gets a good reaction from those in attendance and sets a good mood as we open the doors for the rest of the fans.

Lee Wright appears to start the show. “I stand before you tonight, deeply upset at what I have done. American Patriot, they say you may not be able to wrestle for some time. I feel ashamed……” Wright is barely able to stifle a laugh….regaining his composure he continues. “It is a tragedy, that I could so recklessly endanger the livelihood of a fine man………” Wright breaks into full laughter…”Actually the only thing I am sorry about is he didn’t have farther to fall…..American Patriot should actually thank me, because he can finally breath now that his head is not stuck up Whistlers keister!! You’re welcome, the pleasure was all……………….mine. Next victim please!”

Rayne Man vs Lee Wright
Wright looks to immediately injure the promising newcomer, hurling him to the floor, and then driving his back into the ring post. Wright is relentless, but Rayne Man is able to bounce back, sending Wright crashing to the floor with a drop toe hold. Back in the ring the men trade moves, with Wright looking to isolate Rayne Man’s back, while Rayne Man fights back with a series of drop kicks and a brutal enziguiri. Staggered, Wright misses a wild right hand spinning completely around. Rayne Men grabs Wright from behind and hoists him up on his shoulders…..Pausing to wink at the crowd he then drives Wright into the mat with the Rayne Drop to get the pin.
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Rayne Man defeated Lee Wright in 14:28 by pinfall with a Rayne Drop.

Steven Parker strolls casually to the ring, mounts the steps and grabs a Microphone. “I had heard you were pretty impressive and I have to say, you put on a good show…….But, can you steal a show?” Rayne Man throws his arms up in the air looking perplexed. Parker smiles and drives a boot into Rayne Mans mid section, hoists him over his head and power bombs through a ringside table. Smiling, Parker answers his own question. “Now that…..is how you steal a show.” Parker bows grandly to the crowd, who responds with anything but love, leaving the ring with one final salutation. “Thank you, I will be here all week.”

Rock Downpour: “What the hell, he wrestles for Pittsburgh Steel Wrestling, what is he doing here.”

Herb Stately: “Well Rock, not to overstate the obvious, but it appears he is here to teach Rayne Man a lesson about gravity and tables.”

vs
Jared Johnson vs Roderick Remus
Two of the rosters young bucks make the most of their opportunity, treating the fans to a high paced spot fest that includes an assortment of wild aerial moves, but some solid mat work as well, with several near falls. The end comes when Johnson counters a spinning DDT and turns it into the dreaded Carolina Crossface, forcing Remus to tap as he fails to make the ropes before being overcome by the pain.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Jared Johnson defeated Roderick Remus in 8:52 by submission with a Carolina Crossface.

Southern Comfort vs Old School Principals
The newly formed Southern Comfort hit the ring as Wild Eyed Southern Boys blares over the speakers with Triple D leading playing to the crowd as only he can. This soon wore thin on OSP as they attacked Southern Comfort before Michael Bull was able to officially start the match. It was complete domination by OSP early as Mauler and Sanders got Kentucky Bill in the ring and isolated him, pummeling with forearms, stomps and illegal holds away from the prying eyes of the referee. With the arena rocking, Bill finally makes the hot tag and Dazzling Dave cleans house to the delight of the fans. Things get out of control as soon all four men are in the ring, engaged in a pier six brawl. Sanders grabs Kentucky Bill from behind, but as Masked Mauler gets set to launch a right hand, Bill nails him with a kick to the jaw. Mauler staggers backward right into a ring shaking Dazzle Driver to give the Southern Comfort the win!
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Southern Comfort defeated Old School Principals in 12:15 when Dazzling Dave Diamond defeated The Masked Mauler by pinfall with a Dazzle Driver.

Honest Frank joins the announcers as Southern Comfort celebrates and grabs a microphone. “Once again, it is time for a dose of the truth. Well howdy there pardners, looks like you got yerselves a win there by golly. Y’all gonna celebrate with some Possum stew, some moonshine and a roll in the hay with yer cousins? Well yee haw!!! You see, as ridiculous as all that sounds that is exactly what you inbred rejects from deliverance will be doing later and don’t tell me I’m wrong, because Honest Frank does not lie. Fact is you two just don’t fit here in the big city. In fact, you really don’t fit anywhere but on the set of Brokeback Mountain II complimenting each other on how you fill out those skin tight blue jeans. So here’s the scoop….pardners. Myself and a couple of other interested parties are fixing to send the two of you back to Barnsville, because quite frankly, you’re making it stink here in NYCW and that’s the truth………And, as we all know……THE TRUTH HURTS!”

Rock Downpour: “Well that kind of came out of left field”

Herb Stately: “I don’t care where it came from, it’s about time somebody sent those Hayseeds packing and I’m all for it.”

Rock: “I don’t know about that Herb, but one thing I know we have all been waiting for is the matchups for next month’s Liberty Cup Tag Team Tournament and I have just been handed the results of the draw for the first two matchups.”

Herb: “Oh please Rock, look, I am a quiver in anticipation, please don’t torture me anymore.”

Rock: “Your sarcasm aside, I will remind the fans that the Liberty cup consistis of eight tag teams, and to qualify the two wrestlers must have teamed up in a match at least once over the last 12 months. The draw is random and the tournament winner will be decided in one night, with the new holders of the coveted Liberty Cup for the next twelve months needing to win three matches.”

Herb: “Listen Mr. Ambien, there are still about 14 people awake, how about the first four teams drawn?”

Rock: “Very well, in the first bout of the tournament, we will have Black Hat Bailey and Steve Flash, taking on Whistler and Rayne Man. And, in what is sure to be an interesting matchup, the current NYCW Tag Team Champions, The Young Moguls will be taking on Shark Cage!”

Herb: “What in blue hell? Cage and Sammy can’t stand each other anymore and they have to team up? Now that is the first interesting thing you have said since……ah…..Hmmmm, let me get back to you on that Rock. And as fate would have it, the reunited Shark Cage is in the ring right now.”

Roger Cage © vs Sammy the Shark – NYCW Tri-State Championship
Cage and Sammy both heard the announcement that they would be forced to team at the Liberty Cup and neither seemed pleased at the prospect, so instead of discussion, they took that displeasure on each other in the ring. Cage swarmed Sammy and looked to end it early with the Cage Rage, but Shark escaped, landing three solid punches and a flying head scissors, then hit the Ace in the Hole, with Cage escaping the pin by putting his foot on the ropes. As Sammy picked Cage up, Edward Cornell and New York Doll hit the ring. Sammy is backed into a corner as Cage regains his feet. Cornell and Doll then turn and drop Cage with a double clothesline and lay the boots to him as Sammy the Shark looks on in shock. Michael Bull has no choice but to disqualify Sammy and award the match to Cage.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Roger Cage defeated Sammy The Shark in 14:45 when Sammy The Shark was disqualified when The New York Doll ran in and attacked Roger Cage. Whistler vs Steve Flash
It is apparent nothing has been settled as these two tear into each other with a vengeance and it is not long before Whistler is bleeding once again, courtesy of being slammed head first into the guard rail that surrounds the ring side area. Whistler shows his resiliency, rallying with the crowd behind him and controlling Flash on the mat after hitting a big suplex. With Whistler calling for the Rebel Yell, Flash throws him off, straight into referee Michael Bull, who goes down hard. Lee Wright hits the ring sets up a chair between the turnbuckles. Flash prepares to whip Whistler into the chair, but Whistler reverses the move and it is Flash that crashes into the hard steel. As Flash staggers out of the corner, Whistler nails the Rebel Yell as Michael Bull raises his head and makes the count.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Whistler defeated Steve Flash in 14:43 by pinfall with a Rebel Yell following botched interference by Lee Wright.

vs
Donnie J © vs Handsome Stranger – NYCW Empire Championship
The two combatants circle each other and exchange taunts as Donnie J shows his belt to the crowd. After some stalling, they engage in a collar and elbow tie up and go through a series of Arm Wringers, headlocks and takedowns, with neither man gaining the advantage. Too much of a technical thing will never last with these two and Handsome Stranger is the first to cross the line with a poke to the Eyes. Donnie J fires back with some vicious chops and beal toss that propels Handsome Stranger halfway across the ring. Before long the action has spilled to the floor as they exchange heavy right hands and tomahawk chops to the delight of the crowd. The brawl continues up the aisle and half of the entrance way set is destroyed as they continue to go at it, oblivious to the 10 count as Michael Bull calls for the bell and declares the bout a draw.
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Donnie J drew with Handsome Stranger in 21:49 following a double count out.

Donnie J and Handsome Stranger walk back after the match and the boys give them a standing ovation with Dazzling Dave Diamond giving both men noogies.

Triple D: “Woooooeeee, y’all tore that arena down, that was a heckuva match fellas, I was back here marking out like one of them there Catholic school girls in a plaid dress shop. Hey speaking of that, y’all see that Philly sitting on the west side of the ring when you were out trading blows around ringside? I tell you what, that girl’s bra held more Hooters than a cave full of Owls!! Man, once time when I was…..”

I listened to Triple D trail off as he followed both men into the locker area and could only imagine the glee they both felt being barraged with Triple D’s road stories after such a grueling match.

Black Hat: (Laughing) “They broke the mold when they made old Dave there, probably on purpose. Hey great show tonight son, your Uncle will be happy when he watches the footage.”

Me: “Well, I have to say your road agent work is just as responsible as my booking.”

Black Hat: “Don’t cheat yourself kid, you did a helluva job. I’m just glad your Uncle will be back in the gorilla seat next month.”

Me: “What about TCW?”

Black Hat: “He didn’t tell you? He quit, today was his last show, he is going to help Eisen now at SWF and leaving TCW was part of the deal.”

You could have knocked me over with a feather……Uncle Derek was signing on to help the evil empire? I put the radio on backstage and turned straight to the weather channel…..I am sure if they do give a temperature for Hell it will be below 32 degrees.

“What the hell is this….another $1,200 plus down?” Uncle Derek was not happy about the finances for August. “It does no good to make $100, then drop $1,200 the next month. At that rate we’ll be broke in no time!”

Me: “Actually, that’s a bit dramatic; losing $1,200 a month it would take over six and a half years to actually go broke.”

Stomper: "You little sonofabitch, don’t you think I have that figured out?”

Me: “Actually, no, I don’t think you did figure that out. Look Uncle Derek, it will be like this for another month or two, we aren’t putting on shows with $500 to $700 per shot guys anymore, once we get to the next level things will get better. You know, I realize you are a bottom line guy Uncle Derek, but we still haven’t talked about you signing on with SWF to help with road agent work. I mean you hate all they stand for.”

Stomper: ‘Well, like it is any of your business, but what you don’t know is that Jay Chord is taking ownership of MAW and that has gotten to me a little bit. That kid is a spoiled little punk and they are the only promotion we have a working relationship with and if he looks at me cross eyeed just once it is over….Just got me out of sorts, that's all.”

Me: “Okaaaaaay, what does that have to do with SWF?”

Stomper: “For hells sake, can’t you figure anything out? I was pissed about that and Eisen has been on me for a while. Well, I am talking to Cornell about some upcoming things for TCW and I tell him I want to take the Saturdays off when we are having shows. He says no, I say screw you, he says we have a deal, I say Eisen wants me and will give me Saturday off, he says kiss my ass, go work for Eisen, I say go fu….”

Me: “Sorry I asked, ok, I get it………..In other words Eisen is paying you more and won’t let you work for Cornell.”

Stomper: “Keep pushing it Terry, that’s not what I said!! Why don’t you not worry about me and go make the Liberty Cup into a money maker!”

Me: “You know it won’t be, our worker costs will be high and you never know how Merchandise will go. It will probably dip again after a good month in August.”

Luckily I was spared further discourse as the Radio promotion I had scammed from Crazy Cabbie for the usual 6 tickets came on. I needed this one to announce the other 4 teams for the Liberty Cup and of course get some hype out there….

“Wow, nothing like a shot of Motorhead to get the musical libido going people, Viagra’s got nothing on ‘Ace of Spades’ baby! Now speaking of Viagra, if you have a hard on for wrestling September is going to be a big month for you as those crazies from NYCW return with the annual Liberty Cup Tag Team Tournament. That’s right we already know that Black Hat Bailey and Steve Flash, The Young Moguls, Whistler and Rayne Man and Shark Cage, who can’t even stand each other are entered. Well, my good buddy Terry Flash has given me, the Cabmeister, the inside scoop on the other four teams folks. Southern Comfort, former Champions The Ring Generals, Old School Principals and Honest Frank and Lee Wright from the Gas House Gang are also entered and they are going to tear the friggin roof off the Ministry folks, so grab your tickets, cause you know I got mine!!”

Stomper: “Great, nothing like being compared to Viagra and how many tickets did that cost you?”

Me: “Only 6 again, well worth it I think.”

Stomper: “Oh suuuure, well worth it. Hey, let’s change the name of our February show to ‘My Bloody Valentine’ and that marble mouthed radio friend of yours can compare us to a friggin brand of Tampons, how is that?”

I watch as Uncle Derek storms out again, somehow believing that at least once in the previous 61 years of his life he had laughed at something……But then again he was 61……Maybe the Viagra comparison had hit home. I thought about leaving a note to ask, but the thought of having to eat a piece of paper again quickly changed my mind.

NYCW – Liberty Cup 2010 – Week 2 September 2010

Main Show

& vs &
Honest Frank and Lee Wright vs Southern Comfort
Dazzling Dave Diamond came out picking on Honest Frank to start things off, strutting around the Ring apron in his best big city dandy impression as the crowd howled in delight. Frank had finally seen enough and knocked Triple D off the apron as the bell rang. Wright blindsided Kentucky Bill and the brawl was in full effect, with the Gashouse Gang members mocking the fallen southerners, before putting the boots to them in a brutal assault. Triple D was able to rally and managed to get Wright up for a Dazzle Driver, before Frank took his Knee out from behind. Rolling from the ring, Diamond held his knee in pain as Kentucky Bill went after Wright, who was still woozy, to try and finish the match. As he whipped Wright into the corner, Honest Frank tagged himself in and as Bill came charging in caught him with the loaded Shoe, knocking him out cold and covering him for the win.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Honest Frank and Lee Wright defeated Southern Comfort in 12:14 when Honest Frank defeated Kentucky Bill by pinfall by using underhanded tactics.
Rating: D+

Frank and Wright then grab microphones and treat the crowd to a little improvisation.
Frank: “Hey there Lee, y’all know what ‘relative’ humidity is?”

Wright: “I sure don’t Frank.”

Frank: “It’s the perspiration that forms then two folks from Kentucky have sex.”

Wright: “Woooeeee, that’s a good ‘un Frank.”

Frank: “Golly yeah it is……….But not as good as seeing you two filthy Hillbillies lying on your backs after we just kicked your asses!!” Frank leans over Triple D, who is still holding his knee. “So I’m a guessing good buddy, that you learned something new today…….That once again, the TRUTH HURTS!” Frank spits on Diamond and walks to the back laughing with Wright.

The Ring Generals vs Old School Principals
Having been through many wars over the past year, these two teams know each other well and it shows as neither can get a leg up for any length of time. Things start to go downhill for OSP as the younger team starts to wear them down by pushing the pace and not allowing Sanders and Mauler to trap them in their corner, where the veterans can stay fresh making quick tags. Sanders gets desperate and begins to choke Waldorf relentlessly as Michael Bull tries to break the hold. Sanders loses his cool with Bull and hurls the referee from the ring in frustration, bring on an immediate disqualification.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, The Ring Generals defeated Old School Principals in 16:03 when Rick Sanders was disqualified while fighting Dean Waldorf.

& vs &
Shark Cage vs The Young Moguls
This one is slow to start as Sammy and Cage argue in the corner, each wanting to start things off. Cage finally allows Sammy to start, then slaps his back as soon as the bell rings and takes his place. There is more pushing and shoving between the members of Shark Cage than there is in ring action early on, as Cornell and Doll take advantage of the dissention to work Cage over. Sammy finally gets tagged in, but is slow to enter the ring and Cage pulls him in over the ropes. The two appear ready to go to blows as Doll and Cornell watch, when they suddenly turn and drop kick both members of the Young Moguls out of the ring. With crowd chanting Shark Cage, Sammy offers his hand to Roger……….Cage is reluctant, but finally extends his own hand and Sammy pokes him in the eye, delivers an Ace in the Hole, then summons Cornell into the ring. Edward adds insult to injury by hitting the Stock Ticker and getting the three count as the crowd sits in stunned silence.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, The Young Moguls defeated Shark Cage in 10:52 when Edward Cornell defeated Roger Cage by pinfall with The Stock Ticker. During the match we also had Sammy the Shark turn on Cage.
Rating: E+

Sammy the Shark, Edward Cornell and The New York Doll raise each other’s hands in victory as Sammy grabs the ring microphone. “What’s wrong Roger, you look like your 4 of a kind just got trumped by a royal flush! Well let me explain. You……were afraid to gamble on the future, thought you could go it alone and anyone else would drag you down. But me, I’m not afraid to roll the dice and when Streetz got sick of wasting his breath on you, he came to me………..And I went all in! So Roger, go cash in your chips, because your future is now nothing but craps!”

Whistler and Rayne Man vs Steve Flash and Black Hat Bailey
Whistler and Flash take center stage to start the match and Whistler has lost no hatred for his former friend, annihilating Flash with clubbing forearm shots and dynamic knee lift. Bailey as always has some tricks up his sleeve and retrieves a shank from the brim of his hat that he uses to jab Whistler in the throat to regain momentum. Rayne Man rallies for the good guys and sends Flash and Bailey sprawling with a double noggin knocker once he is able to enter the fray. Just as the tide appears to have turned, Lee Wright runs in and attacks Whistler, leaving Rayne Man to get double teamed in the ring. Bailey starts to pick a battered Rayne Man up by his hair, as Flash turns to the crowd and gives the signal for the ‘Flash Bang.’ Rayne Man lands a low blow and then rolls Bailey up in a small package, scoring the pin before Flash can intervene.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Whistler and Rayne Man defeated Steve Flash and Black Hat Bailey in 15:02 when Rayne Man defeated Black Hat Bailey by pinfall with a fast roll up. During the match we also had Lee Wright run in and attack Whistler.

Handsome Stranger joins Downpour and Stately at the announcers table. “I fear I have been consumed, not with all that is beautiful in this world such as me, but with all that is ugly. Donnie J you mock the pristine and the elegant and turn the stomachs of the beautiful people. Tonight I shall no longer be burdened by your vile appearance, instead I shall focus on the only thing of beauty you possess……The Empire Title and this time it, when the lights go out and the rich and famous come out to play…….it will at last adorn the waist…….of the Handsome Stranger.”

Richie Riggins vs Animal Harker
Riggins has monster potential, but struggles with the veteran Harker initially, finally overpowering him the body bag, an extremely brutal version of a power slam.
In an extremely poor match, Richie Riggins defeated Animal Harker in 10:20 by pinfall with a Body Bag.

Whistler and Rayne Man vs The Young Moguls - Liberty Cup Semi-Final
The Young Moguls came out on fire riding their opening round win to an early advantage, using their speed and ferocity to control the match, along with an ample dose of interference from Streetz. Rayne Man put the team on his shoulders however, matching Cornell and Doll with a mixture of sound technical wrestling and some high impact moves that brought gasps from the crowd. Whistler wrestled smartly, using his size and experience advantage to keep the Champions grounded. The crowd came alive as it looked like Whistler and Rayne Man would take the match, but Streetz distracted referee Michael Bull long enough to allow the Moguls to regain control. As Whistler tried to tag, Streetz pulled Rayne Man off of the ring apron and paid the price taking a Rayne Drop on the hard floor. In the ring Cornell prepared to deliver the Stock Ticker on Whistler when Roger Cage came out of nowhere, decking Doll and then delivering a top rope drop kick to Cornell. Whistler crawled on top of Cornell and using the ropes to insure he stayed down secured the 3 count.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Whistler and Rayne Man defeated The Young Moguls in 15:36 when Whistler defeated Edward Cornell by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. During the match we also had Roger Cage run in and attack Doll and Cornell.
Rating: D-

After the match Sammy the Shark runs in and blind sides Cage and is soon joined by Edward Cornell and The New York Doll. Spurred on by Streetz, the trio is vicious in their assault, obliviously angered that cage cost them their Semi-Final match. Before security can intervene, cage is bloodied, all three men have hit their finishers on him and he lays motionless in the ring for several minutes while he is attended to.

Honest Frank and Lee Wright vs The Ring Generals – Liberty Cup Semi-Final
The Ring generals were faced with the ominous task of possibly having to deal with all four members of the Gas House Gang and they appeared distracted throughout the match. Surprisingly though, Flash and Bailey stayed clear as Frank and Lee took care of business by themselves. Statler was injured early on after being slammed into the Ring Post by Wright and wrestled the rest of the match without much use of his left arm. Waldorf fought gamely and at times had Frank and Wright on their heels, but in the end the sheer brutality of the wicked brawlers prevailed and Frank hit a devastating Frank N Hurter on Waldorf, who had no chance to kick out as the former Champs were eliminated.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Honest Frank and Lee Wright defeated The Ring Generals in 11:08 when Honest Frank defeated Dean Waldorf by pinfall with a Frank-N-Hurter.

vs
Donnie J © vs Handsome Stranger – NYCW Empire Championship – No Disqualification
The culmination of a month’s long feud comes to a head as things pick up right where last month’s draw left off. Stranger seems intent on disfiguring Donnie J, grinding his head across the ropes and attempting to slam him face first into the ring steps, which Donnie J blocks and retaliates by planting Stranger on the steps, which draws blood and infuriates the handsome one. Back in the ring, Donnie works some nice mat wrestling, controlling Handsome Stranger and scoring a Northern Lights suplex that rattles the ring. Handsome Stranger comes back with an Ace cutter and as Donnie J lies on the mat goes under the ring to retrieve a bag containing a branding iron. Stranger lights it on fire and attempts to plant it square on Donnie’s forehead. Donnie J fights him off and rolls outside the ring grabbing a fire extinguisher and as the handsome one slides through the ropes, Donnie J covers him in white foam, putting the fire out and temporarily blinding Stranger. Donnie J then hits Death on Miami Beach on the floor, rolls Handsome Stranger back into the ring and covers him for the pin!
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Donnie J defeated Handsome Stranger in 23:25 by pinfall with a Death on Miami Beach. Donnie J makes defense number 3 of his NYCW Empire title.
Rating: D

Donnie J celebrates with the fans, when Handsome Stranger, realizing his opportunity to ever hold the belt may have slipped away goes berserk and grabs the fire extinguisher he was just sprayed with. As Donnie J turns to acknowledge the rest of the crowd, Stranger nails him in the face with the bottom of the heavy steel canister, leaving him knocked out and bleeding badly. In a final act of defiance the rest of the extinguishers contents in Donnie J’s face, before leaving through a shower of drinks from the crowd.

Honest Frank and Lee Wright vs Whistler and Rayne Man – Liberty Cup Finals
Both teams show the effects of two previous matches as the actions starts slowly with lots of rest holds highlighted by arm wringers, head locks and toe holds as each team attempts to wear the other down. Rayne Man is the youngest of the four and it is again this attribute that gives him and Whistler the edge. With Lee Wright on the floor, Rayne Man whips Frank into a big boot from Whistler, and then hits the Rayne drop, but amazingly Frank is somehow able to kick out just shy of the 3 count. Wright regains his senses and goes after Whistler and the two of them brawl outside the ring as Michael Bull yells at them to return to their corners. Rayne Man picks Frank up and positions himself for a second Rayne Drop when Steven Parker jumps the guard rail, kicks Rayne Man in the gut and delivers an evenflow DDT as Frank slides off Rayne Man’s back. Diving to the floor as Bull turns around, Parker rolls under the ring as Honest Frank hits the Frank N Hurter and 3 seconds later he and Lee Wright are the winners of the 2010 Liberty Cup Tag Team tournament.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Honest Frank and Lee Wright defeated Whistler and Rayne Man in 15:48 when Honest Frank defeated Rayne Man by pinfall with a Frank-N-Hurter following interference from Steven Parker. I am ecstatic with the gate as we approach a sell out for the first time this year at the Ministry, but merchandise sales are down and I am afraid the overall rating of the show may hurt us next month, though all accounts indicate it was good enough to keep the popularity needle moving in the right direction. I look for Uncle Derek, but he is nowhere to be found and Black Hat tells me he is counting merchandise money……I decide to deal with his wrath later and call it a night.

It was late and the dimly light office cast an eerie backdrop on what was obviously a very somber meeting as Terry Twist and Stomper sat across from each other exchanging ideas.

Stomper: "$3,126.00 in the hole for September Terry, our worst month yet and I know we still have $94,000 plus in the bank, but we need to do something to turn things around and get to the next level. I normally would be yelling, but I just don't feel like it anymore. You are my flesh and blood and I want you to succeed, to someday take this company over, but you just can't accept losing money like it is not a big deal.....If you do that $3,000 loss becomes 5, then 8, then next thing you know you are struggling to pay the boys. Hell, I am set and I am not going to be around for another 30-40 years anyway, but you should be and I want you to be succesful in the business."

This was a side of my Uncle that was rarely seen and to be honest I would rather have had him yelling at me.....I felt like I had just strangled a Kitten in front of him and now he was telling me how disappointed he was......then again, my Uncle was crafty and this could just be a ploy to make me feel like crap, when in reality being $6,000.00 on the red, when you were working to expand a company and were close to getting to the next level....Well, was that really that bad?

Me: "Uncle Derek, I believe in what I am doing and I think we have the guys in place to get it done. What I really think we need to do is continue to increase the focus on the younger guys, especially when we get popular enough to be considered a regional promotion."

Stomper: "Dammit Terry, it's no good to believe, you have to be sure!"

Now that was the Uncle Derek I knew and loved.....

Me: "I am sure Uncle Derek. Look, I know you are loyal to guys like Black Hat and Lee and Whistler. But it is time they started to elevate the younger guys more."

Stomper: "How much more, hell you already job Bailey everytime I turn around and he is the leader of what is supposedly the most dangerous stable in the company."

Me: "And the Gas House Gang can keep that persona, as a whole, but when you can divide and conquer you can get over on them. Their name says it all, they are a gang and when they are able to use numbers on people they are dangerous, but isolate them and they are like the Bully, they can be beaten. Look, the only one of the group who can really still work at a top level is Honest Frank. Hell he carried Triple D and a raw youngster to probably the best match of the show in the Liberty Cup. I can keep him strong as an individual, keep the stable strong as a group and pick my spots with the rest of them to elevate the younger guys."

Stomper: "OK, that sounds like you are thinking at least. So who do you think is ready to step up."

Me: "Well, Donnie J is solid as Champion for now and I think Rayne Man has a world of potential. Steven Parker will do well as the fans get more exposure to him and I think Kentucky Bill is a diamond in the rough and with Triple D as his partner he can get over. A couple of guys I hoped would do better are Cage and Sammy. It seems Sammy's turn went well, but that the fans don't seem to care much about what Cage is doing."

Stomper: "Well you have turned him twice now this year and half the damn fans probalby don't know if he is a face or a heel right now......"

Me: "You're right Uncle Derek, I should have done a better job with him, but I still think he can bring alot to the company."

Stomper: "Bullcrap, you heard how he talks...He could give a rats ass about NYCW and it shows. We would have been better off if he had gone to TCW. He's a little egotistical prick."

Me: "I think you are too hard on him Uncle Derek, give me a few more months, I have some ideas for him. Also, I think New York Doll is ready for bigger things and Roderick Remus and Jared Johnson have potential too."

Stomper: "I agree on Remus and Johnson, but New York Doll? Are you using drugs son? Nobody has been able to do anything with him and you think he is the future?"

Me: "Not THE future, but a piece of it.....I think his gimmick is starting to get a little momentum and the fans are starting to hate him."

Stomper: "Because he sucks dumbass!"

Me: "You may be surprised.....There will be a subtle shift in direction after the 'Carnival of Pain' show this month and I would not be suprised if started to see some more sponsorship money by November."

Stomper: "I could give you a subtle shove out the damn window too and see some Insurance money........."

Uncle Derek got up and left and I only had one lingering question....

Me: "Do you really have an insurance policy on me?"

Carnival of Pain is looming and it will hopefully start a big 4th quarter off with a bang. The next two shows will serve as a buildup to our December end of year show Holiday Havoc, which will hopefully put NYCW in position to get a TV deal in early 2011.

NYCW – Carnival of Pain – Week 2 October 2010

Pre-Show

Old School Principals vs Monteiro and Johnson vs Young Moguls – Non Title Match
The veterans mix it up with two young teams, including our champs in a non-title affair, again for a select crowd of 100 people who were the first to buy event tickets. The Moguls dominate much of the match and Roger Monteiro was pinned by Cornell and Doll as OSP held Jared Johnson in the corner. As Cornell waved to the departing losers, Sanders pulled a bit of a swerve, going to high five New York Doll, then planting a knee to his gut and spiking him with a Piledriver to snatch the underhanded win for the veterans.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Old School Principals defeated The Young Moguls and Roger Monteiro and Jared Johnson in 10:52; the order of elimination was Roger Monteiro and Jared Johnson first, and finally The Young Moguls.

Honest Frank and Steven Parker then join our three way tag participants, The Masked Mauler, Rick Sanders, Jared Johnson, The New York Doll, Edward Cornell and Roger Monteiro in our standard pre-show meet and greet, with Parker and Frank keeping most of the crowd mesmerized.

vs
Whistler vs Black Hat Bailey
The two old warhorse’s square up and Bailey starts to extend his hand, but decides to go with an eye poke instead to get things underway. In what has become the routine for Black Hat, he compensates for his fading skills by cheating every time things start to go against him and this match is no exception as he uses every trick in the book against Whistler. Unfortunately for Bailey, Whistler has been around the block too and he soon captures the momentum with a series of body slams and a ring shaking suplex that brings Steve Flash to the ring to help his stable mate. Flash grabs Whistlers flag pole and tries to throw it to Bailey, but Whistler intercepts, drives the shaft home into Bailey’s solar plexus and hits the Rebel Yell to defeat the leader of the Gas House Gang.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Whistler defeated Black Hat Bailey in 11:38 by pinfall with a Rebel Yell following botched interference by Steve Flash.

I walk to the ring with a special announcement to make and while many of the fans are indifferent, several remember my earlier arrogance and I hear scattered boos. “Oh shut up….do you people really think I am going to give credence to your catcalls when anything that comes out of my mouth is more important than all of your combined ramblings? Now, as much as it pains me to say this, since I do truly believe that Handsome Stranger is the ‘face’ of NYCW, I just can’t have loose cannons running around smashing people in the face with fire extinguishers…..After all, you people aren’t role models for your children, so we have to be. So, for his unfortunate misjudgment, Handsome Stranger is banned from the building for tonight’s show.”

vs
Lee Wright vs Animal Harker
Wright gives Harker a shiny toy before the match, which totally pre-occupies the simple ones thoughts, even as the bell rings. Wright takes advantage and administers a savage beat down that sees Harker rendered senseless in a matter of minutes. Never one to show mercy, Wright hoists Harker into position and caps off the decisive victory with a Wright Stuff.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Lee Wright defeated Animal Harker in 5:56 by pinfall with a Wright Stuff.

Roger Cage is walking to the ring for his match against Sammy the Shark when Edward Cornell and The New York Doll jump him near the arena entrance. As Streetz eggs them on they pummel the Tri-state Champ and deliver a tandem Stock Ticker leaving him laid out cold. They then grab Regular Joe, who happens to be walking by and push him out into the arena, still wearing his street clothes.
Rating: E-

vs
Sammy the Shark vs Regular Joe
Sammy has a microphone and addresses the crowd as Joe stumbles into sight. “Well look at this…Roger Cage is too big of a coward to roll the dice against the Shark, so he sends some penny ante replacement.” Joe still looks lost, but hits the ring at the crowds urging and is promptly met by a flurry of kicks, punches and whiped into the corner, followed by a flying elbow from Sammy. On guts alone, Joe fights back nearly shocks Sammy by countering a back drop with a sunset flip for a two count. Both men go toe to toe and Joe comes off the ropes with a flying body press, but his momentum allows Sammy roll through and end up on top in a pinning position. As Michael Bulls drops to make the count, Sammy puts both feet on the ropes to insure his game opponent cannot kick out.
In an extremely poor match, Sammy the Shark defeated Regular Joe in 10:53 by pinfall, illegally using the ropes for leverage.

Rayne Man sprints to the ring and slides under the ropes, calling for the house microphone. “Oh Canadaaaaaa, Steven Parker embarrasses thee…..I don’t know the rest of the words because to be honest, I don’t care and neither do any of these good people here. What I do care about is a little good old fashioned payback though. You talk about being the show stealer, prancing around here with your little Princess Persephone. Well in a few minutes you get a chance to really steal the show man to man in a match, not by delivering a cheap shot when I am not expecting it. And, you can bet your sweet ass I will be ready tonight and I promise you this…..If anything gets stolen in this match, it might just be your Girlfriend after I 'Rayne' all over you! So if you’re ready to get wet big guy, bring it on!”

with vs
Steven Parker vs Rayne Man
Parker is not amused at Rayne Man’s pre-match rant and hits the ring with a fury hammering Rayne Man with some vicious chops and showing his athletic ability with a spinning back kick that nearly takes Rayne’s head off. As Persephone squeals with delight at her mans showing, Rayne Man bounces back with a Thesz press off the ropes, pounds Parker and then nails a Rolling Thunder to nearly get the pin. Persephone distracts referee Michael Bull and Parker hits a low blow and hurls Rayne through the ropes to buy some time. The ebb and flow continues as we approach the end of the scheduled time limit and Parker stages a furious last second rally nailing a Power slam, then as Persephone jumps onto the ring apron to cheer him on, he whips Rayne Man in her direction and she is knocked to the floor as he rebounds off the ropes. Parker misses a half hearted clothesline after seeing this and rushes to the ropes to check on his girl. Rayne Man clocks a distracted Parker with an elbow to the back of the head, picks him up and hits the Rayne Drop quickly covering…1…..2…..Ding, ding, ding……..The bell rings before Bull can hit 3 and we have a time limit draw!
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Rayne Man drew with Steven Parker in 20:00 when the time limit expired.

A montage of clips plays on our video screen and with Lynyrd Skynyrd blaring in the background; Dazzling Dave Diamond is shown training for his match with Honest Frank. The routine includes lifting logs, chasing Chickens and Thumb Wrestling with Kentucky Bill….After taking two of three from Bill, Triple D sticks his Thumb in ice and cracks open a Stroh’s beer, winking at the camera as the crowd cheers.

Hell, seeing a day in your life disrespects the entire civilized world!! Dazzling Dave Diamond vs Honest Frank – For a shot at the Empire Title
Triple D changes it up, racing to the ring to the strains of ‘Jim Dandy’ by Black Oak Arkansas and goes straight to work on Frank, quickly overwhelming the rough and tumble veteran with his energy alone, hitting drop kicks, atomic drops and about every other drop in the book as Frank heads for the floor at first opportunity. Upon getting back in the ring, Frank slows things down to a more methodical; grind it out kind of pace, which is helped by Triple D’s lack of stamina and tendency to gas himself out early. Working on the legs, Frank has Triple D screaming in agony as he sinks a deep Boston Crab, which Diamond barely escapes in a desperation stretch for the ropes. Sensing it is time for the coup de gras, Frank starts to lock Triple D up for the Frank N Hurter, but in a final burst of energy, Diamond works an arm free and lifts Frank across his shoulders………Letting out a whoop he starts to deliver the Dazzle Driver, but Frank squirms free, slides down his back and rolls Triple D in a small package, grabbing tights as Bull completes the three count.

Donnie J © vs Steve Flash – NYCW Empire Championship
This one starts slowly as neither man wishes to make a mistake, instead they feel each other out with a test of strength and some basic arm wringers and head locks. Flash makes the first move of note, catapulting Donnie into a corner and following him in with an attempted avalanche, which the Champ avoids and then rewards Flash for his troubles with a series of hard chops, which bring oohs and awes from the ringsiders. Donnie J then takes control of the match until he notices Lee Wright standing at the backstage entrance. Pointing at Wright and making a slashing gesture across his throat, the Champion is suddenly blindside by a running shoulder block from Flash and driven to the mat. Flash then hits a DDT and goes to work on Donnie’s arm, as Wright looks on approvingly. With his free arm up in the air motioning to the crowd, Donnie regains his feet and punches his way out of the Arm bar, suddenly exploding on Flash with both hands, until the challenger rakes him across the eyes. Concerned Wright starts toward the ring, but is laid out from behind by Whistler and his trusty flag pole! Back in the ring, Flash has the Champion by the hair and is giving the signal for the Flash Bang, when Whistler plants the end of his flag pole in Flash’s ribs, doubling him over and allowing Donnie J to retain the title after delivering a Death on Miami Beach!
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Donnie J defeated Steve Flash in 18:52 by pinfall with a Death on Miami Beach following interference from Whistler. Donnie J makes defense number 4 of his NYCW Empire title.

Me: “I know, luckily Frank saved it a bit….I will stop putting him in matches over 12 minutes or so.”

Just then Triple D himself walks up, Stroh’s Beer in hand. “Yippee ki yay, pretty good show tonight feller’s! Man that Frank can work for an older guy….had me plumb tuckered out.”

Me: “Ah, replacing a couple of cans of that with some extra cardio would help.”

Triple D looks at the Beer and smiles. “Yessir, but these are just a lot tastier…Hey did I tell you they gave me a free case after the shoot, ya’ll know how hard it is to get Stroh’s up here in New York, I was in hog heaven, gave the distributor my address, he promised to send me some more in the mail.”

Me: “Send you Beer in the mail?”

Triple D: “Heck yeah, UPS or something like that, anyway I told a young Philly out there in the parking lot I had a lot more of where these came from, as long as she could give me some gas money….Looks like I’m getting lucky fellers cause she didn’t say no…”

As he walks off Stomper just shakes his head… ”I love that kid, but my god, he just might be inbred”

Just then Donnie J walks by and merely grunts when I congratulate him on a good match, barely even acknowledging myself and Uncle Derek.

Stomper: “What the hell is his problem?”

Me: “Don’t know…..You would think with push we are giving him he’d be bringing us apples. I’ll talk to him before the next show.”

Going over the final October numbers it is great to see we are closing back in on break even as we only lose $268.00 and are right on the verge of going regional with a good showing at Bash on Broadway in November. I think we will finally get over the hump as I plan to spread my top guys out over the card, some in matches that will serve to both setup Holiday Havoc in December and also give a couple of the young guys some valuable learning opportunities. Uncle Derek is reading USA Today and I feel safe interrupting him to tell him we are back around break even, but a knock on the door cuts me off just as I begin to speak…………..

Donnie J: “Hi guys, you wanted to see me Terry?”

Me: “Yeah, have a seat. Really, I just want to know if everything is OK. You seemed a little upset after the last show.”

Donnie J: “I’m fine, well, actually…..Oh never mind, I have no reason to complain. I have been Champion almost 6 months now and you guys have been good. I just talked to James Prudence before the show and I guess I am just a little jealous of where he is and where I am, considering we were once partners and at the same level.”

Stomper: “Oh for hells sake, another one with his lips on the global ass of SWF!!”

Me: “Uncle Derek, he isn’t saying he is leaving. You’re not leaving right? I mean I don’t think you would have signed an extension if you weren’t planning to stay.”

Donnie J: “Hey, that’s why I didn’t want to say anything, look I would not have resigned if I was not happy, I just wish we put on more shows and had some more exposure. I also am kind of disappointed that you put the program with Stranger on the back burner after one bad month.”

Me: “Donnie, it’s not over, it just took a dip in popularity from our exit polls and I wanted to back off a bit so it didn’t go stale on us. You guys aren’t finished with each other, it just needed a break.”

Stomper: “I have an idea, why don’t you hang out with Diamond for a while Donnie, all he cares about are ring rats and cheap ass southern Beer that tastes like it was cold filtered through a urinal…..seems to work for him.”

Donnie J: (forcing a laugh) “Hey I’ll bounce back, just a little down and I’ll pass on Dave’s Beer and his women.”

Stomper: “Well now you are finally making sense, now get the hell out of here while I am still in a good mood.”

Donnie still appears a bit annoyed, mostly following everything Uncle Derek says, but he manages a half smile and leaves.

Me: “You really could use a bit more in the way of people skills Uncle Derek; I mean not everybody has a good day every day. I know the sun always shines in your world, but this is a tough business and it wears on you…..Trust me, I would love it if everyone was a big jolly Dwarf like you.”

Stomper: “You can kiss my ass too, funny man…..Now when you’re done trying to be some dime store Dr. Phil can you tell me what our finances look like?”

Me: “Better than those polyester pants you have on…..Where did you get those, the Bee Gees thrift store?”

I am already two steps towards the door laughing as a coaster comes flying at me…….As I make it through the door I yell back…. ”Only down $268.00 for October.”

Heading down the stairs the last thing I hear is…… ”If you booked as well as the Bee Gees sing, we would be on TV already!”

As I head out onto the street below, I cannot be sure, but I swear I can year my Uncles gravelly voice coming from the window above………………………..”Then I get night fever, night fever….we know how to do it.”

As I walk down the street I now sure of one more thing…….That the Bee Gees could book a lot better than my Uncle can sing.

Kind of a somber day as I send out the poster for Bash on Broadway as TEW.com is reporting that 35 year old Luchador Hypnos was killed in an automobile accident two shows into the October WLW tour. I had hoped we would make it the whole year without losing a wrestler under the age of 40, but at least it was not a drug death. Uncle Derek has no love for the Luchador style, but the news even got a "Gee, that's a shame, poor kid" from him.

The big news however as we head into November is that TCW has reached Global and is now nipping at the heels of SWF, a result that made Uncle Derek smile since it showed fans still liked 'real' wrestling.

I have booked myself into an angle on the November show that will shake things up a bit and probably bring a good amount of hate from the NYCW fan base, we will see how it goes......

NYCW – Bash on Broadway – Week 2 November 2010

Pre-Show

Lee Wright vs Animal Harker vs Jared Johnson vs Richie Riggins
Our pre-card special event is a four corners match this week and Lee Wright and Richie Riggins work together to overpower Johnson and Harker early. Johnson rallies and cleans house with a drop kick on Wright and a nice hurricanrana on Riggins, but the advantage is short lived as Wright pulls him out of the ring and slams him into the ring steps. As Riggins continues to assault Johnson on the floor, Wright climbs back into the ring and puts Harker away with a Wright Stuff to win the match.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Lee Wright defeated Animal Harker, Jared Johnson and Richie Riggins in 9:18 when Lee Wright defeated Animal Harker by pinfall with a Wright Stuff.
Rating: D

Honest Frank, Donnie J, Roger Cage, Handsome Stranger, Edward Cornell, Kentucky Bill, Dazzling Dave Diamond and The New York Doll then come out and do a meet and greet with those attending the pre-show and make a big splash with all in attendance.
Rating: C-

Main Show

vs
Roger Cage © vs Handsome Stranger - NYCW Tri-State Regional Championship
Returning from his 30 day suspension, Handsome Stranger is edgier than ever, slapping the Champion before the match and insulting his ring attire as tasteless. Cage is incensed and takes the action to Stranger, making a particularly big impression with a spear that nearly cuts Stranger in half. Stranger gets back into the match with a slingshot suplex and covers for a two count, but Cage shows resiliency, chopping Stranger down with leg kicks and working over the ankle and knee of his challenger. Sammy the Shark then appears and walks halfway down the ramp as Cage motions him to come into the ring. Referee Michael Bull has the opposite on his mind and steps between the ropes to order Shark to the back. Cage turns away from Shark and walks into a side Russian leg sweep from The New York Doll, who snuck into the ring from behind and now quickly rolls to the outside after planting Cage. Handsome Stranger then picks the Champion up and hits a La Gota to lift the Tri-State belt.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Handsome Stranger defeated Roger Cage in 13:43 by pinfall with a La Gota following interference from The New York Doll. Handsome Stranger wins the NYCW Tri-State Regional title.
Rating: D

I make my way to the ring and call Steve Flash and Whistler out. “You know, I have been watching you two old warhorses take up space on my cards, fighting over truth, justice and each other’s social security checks for about six months now. To put it bluntly, I need more space for the young guys and less space for those of you who should be playing shuffle board at Shady Acres retirement villa. So…….to make a little more room in the company, whichever one of you loses tonight has wrestled his last match for New York Championship Wrestling!”

A mixed reaction from the crowd, but Flash gets a big smile on his face after this announcement, which goes away fairly quickly when I resume speaking.

Me: “But wait, there is more…..much, much more. Now, I know that with so much at stake, neither of you would even think of anything underhanded. But, just to make sure, if anybody and I mean ANYBODY…..interferes in tonight’s match between you two, they will never wrestle in NYCW again either!”

Flash is now livid… ”You can’t do that…..I’ll go over your head, you just can’t make up any rule you want, you’ll see!!”

Me: “OK, go over my head, in fact let’s see how that will work right now…..’Hello this is Terry, oh hi Steve….What, you want to talk to my boss? Sure, just a minute I’ll get him………Hi this is Terry’s boss, what? Oh my name is Terry too……Oh now you want my boss, sure, can you hold? Hello, this is Terry…Yes I am the boss of Terry and Terry, anymore questions?' You see Flash, you can go over my head all you want, because there is nobody there, so you either wrestle tonight under the rules I have just laid out, or turn in you tights.”

Now it is Whistlers turn to smile as Flash throws a mini tantrum in the ring after I leave.
Rating: E+

vs
Rayne Man vs Roderick Remus
Remus comes out surprisingly aggressive, suspiciously employing some of the same tactics we have seen from Steven Parker before to take an early advantage. Rayne Man finally stymies the plucky Remus with a fast paced aerial assault and some nice transition moves that brings the crowd to their feet. Remus makes one final attempt to rally, but an attempted head scissors is expertly countered and turned into a Rayne Drop to end the match in dramatic fashion.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Rayne Man defeated Roderick Remus in 10:48 by pinfall with a Rayne Drop.
Rating: D

Dazzling Dave Diamond is shown on the video screen sitting backstage with a crossword puzzle and a perplexed look on his face. Steven Parker walks by on his way out for his match when Diamond stops him. “Hey Steven, y’all know what a seven letter word is that might describe Jeff Foxworthy?”

Parker seems annoyed, but pauses for a second. “REDNECK!”

Triple D: “Yes I am and mighty proud of it, now how about that word partner?”

Parker just shakes his head continues to the ring, while Diamond shrugs and goes back to the crossword puzzle… ”I got it! C-O-M-E-D-I-A-N, oh dang it that’s eight letters, man these crosswords are tough!”
Rating: E

with vs
Steven Parker vs Roger Monteiro
Parker seems obsessed with looking even more dominating than Rayne Man was and tears into Monteiro with unabashed fury, battering his inexperienced foe and stifling every attempt Monteiro makes to sustain any offense effectively. Once he has definitive control of the situation, Parker toys with Monteiro for a couple of minutes, then turns out the lights with his Future Shock finisher. After the three count, Parker grabs a microphone and lets it be known what his plans are…. ”I think it is clear after what you just witnessed, that the only thing left for me, is a title shot next month at Holiday Havoc….People, you might as well go home now, because you have just witnessed the best thing you are going to see tonight.”
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Steven Parker defeated Roger Monteiro in 10:02 by pinfall with a Future Shock.
Rating: D-

Rayne Man comes out while Parker is still in the ring grabbing his own microphone. “Mr. Show stealer, the great savior from Canada, noted cheap shot artist and his own biggest fan. What qualifies you for a title shot next month? I had you pinned at Carnival of Pain and if the bell hadn’t saved you with 1 second left, you would be licking your wounds and crying in your Molson.” Rayne Man climbs into the ring and stands nose to nose with Parker and the jawing starts, with Parker boasting that he beat his ‘stiff’ quicker than Rayne Man tonight, which proves he is better. The men exchange shoves and Parker then slaps the taste out of Rayne Man's mouth and all hell breaks loose. Parker and Rayne go toe to toe and Roger Monteiro, who is still in the ring, tries to intervene, which brings Roderick Remus from the back. Within moments there is a full scale brawl going on between all four men, who fight their way to the back.

The Young Moguls © vs Southern Comfort – NYCW Tag Team Championship
‘Simple man’ by Lynyrd Skynyrd is the song of the month, as Southern Comfort makes their way to the ring. Before they can climb through the ropes however, The Young Moguls attack from behind and we are underway as all four men trade blows, before Triple D and Cornell eventually end up in the ring together. As usual, Diamond starts fast, whipping Cornell into the corner mounting the second rope and pounding away as the crowd counts to 10. Cornell staggers out of the corner and falls flat on his face. Kentucky Bill then enters the fray, but is soon trapped in the Moguls corner and as Streetz distracts the referee, Cornell and Doll double team him. Triple D gets the hot tag and fires Cornell into the corner, where he flips upside down over the turnbuckle and ends up on the floor. New York Doll, who is the legal man, motions to Streetz who produces a set of Brass knuckles from his pocket. But as he goes to toss them to Doll, Roger Cage grabs his arm from behind and delivers a Cage Rage to the Moguls manager on the floor, leaving him out cold. Diamond charges and drives a knee into Dolls back and as he rebounds off the ropes hits a belly to back suplex, and then holds onto the bridge for the win as we crown new Tag Team Champions!!!
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Southern Comfort defeated The Young Moguls in 12:15 when Dazzling Dave Diamond defeated The New York Doll by pinfall after a distraction from Roger Cage. Southern Comfort wins the NYCW Tag Team titles.

vs
Whistler vs Steve Flash – Steel Cage – Loser never wrestles for NYCW again
As the cage is lowered, Flash goes straight to work and less than two minutes in Whistler is bleeding from having his face ground into the steek mesh. The old veteran is tough as nails however and he storms back delivering a body slam, followed by a brutal Brain Buster that gets him a 2 count. Flash is on dream Street and tries to climb through the ropes and onto the floor, before he realizes he is trapped and has nowhere to go. Now it is Whistlers turn to play dirty and he slams Flash’s head into the unforgiving cage until he too wears the crimson mask. Whistler gets set for the Rebel Yell, but Flash picks him up and counters with an atomic drop to buy some time. With both men bleeding and running out of gas, Flash locks Whistler up for the Flash Bang, but Whistler blocks it, tries to counter with a suplex which Flash blocks, knee to Whistler's groin and its the Flash Bang…1…2…Whistler kicks out!! Flash pounds the mat, picks Whistler up again and hits another Flash Bang…1...2….3…..It’s over, Whistler has been defeated and is finished in NYCW!!!
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Steve Flash defeated Whistler in a Cage Classic match in 14:09 by pinfall with a Flash Bang.
Rating: E+

After the match Flash stares down at his beaten opponent as Lee Wright comes out ready to add insult to injury. Flash stops him and leaves the ring motioning Wright to follow, in a token show of respect. Whistler eventually regains his feet and leads the crowd one last time in a chant of “USA, USA, USA!!” Many in the crowd have tears in their eyes as Whistler leaves the ring for the last time and as their hero makes his way to the back a chant of “Thank you Whistler……Thank you Whistler!” breaks out. As he reaches the curtain, tears now flowing down his face as well, Whistler turns and gives a final salute to his fans.

vs
Donnie J © vs Honest Frank – NYCW Empire Championship
Big Frank shows what his game plan is early as he attacks the Champions back, hoping to limit his mobility and set him up for the Frank n Hurter. Donnie J is as tough as they come though and as Frank picks him up off the mat he delivers several elbows to the mid-section, followed by a Shoulder block off the ropes, which drops Frank hard. An inverted DDT puts Frank on the ropes and finds him scrambling for a way to regain control as Donnie delivers a rapid fire elbow drop and works an Arm bar trying to get Frank to submit. Honest Frank is in trouble and Lee Wright again appears and starts towards the ring, but in a last great act of defiance, Whistler shatters his flag pole over Wright’s head and then chases off Black Hat Bailey and Steve Flash with a piece of the pole in each hand. Left to his own devices, Frank goes for the trusty loaded shoe, propelling himself off the ropes and taking a wild swing at the Champion, who ducks as Frank flies into referee Michael Bull, knocking him down. Donnie J then Power slams Frank as he staggers back toward him, and nails a Death on Miami Beach before covering the challenger. 1…2…3….4…5….6, but it is only the crowd counting as Bull is still out. Donnie tries to revive the referee, who finally gets to his hands and knees, but Frank has recovered too and this time his aim is true as he nails Donnie J with the loaded Shoe. He hits the Frank N Hurter, covers and it looks like we will have a new Champion, but Bull grabs the Show, finds a steel plate in the heel and calls for the bell. Honest Frank is disqualified!!
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Donnie J defeated Honest Frank in 21:45 by disqualification. Donnie J makes defense number 5 of his NYCW Empire title.
Rating: D+

As the crowd begins to leave, Rock Downpour makes an announcement over the PA system. "Ladies and Gentlemen, in the wake of Donnie J’s successful title defense tonight, I have been handed a note from management. Following their head to head draw last month, coupled with their individual victories tonight…….. Rayne Man and Steven Parker have been named co-number 1 contenders for the Empire Title. Because of this development, the Main Event for Holiday Havoc will be a triangle match between Donnie J, Steven Parker and Rayne Man for the NYCW Empire Championship!!”

Backstage:
It seems like this might finally be the show that gets us to the next level, but the mood backstage is subdued as everyone says goodbye to Gerard “Whistler” Lee, who had informed me a week before the show that he was retiring. I kept this from everybody but Uncle Derek up until show time, so it would not leak out. I have asked him to stay around in a non-wrestling capacity and he promised he may do one or two shots, but his mind is still set on walking away.

My only regret with our attendance being down this month is that more folks weren’t around to say goodbye to one of NYCW’s legends. I know my goal was to get “younger” but it is still hard to see Whistler go. He was one of my favorites as a kid and though he had a quick temper and was known to be manipulative on occasion, when you got him away from the business he was a kind, humble man. On his way out he gave me his Flag…… ”Terry, I want you to have this and every time you look at it……..Think of me and pop a couple of cold ones…..Just don’t let Triple D hear you or he’ll drink ‘em all.”

We laughed and embraced. “Good luck Gerard and remember you promised a couple of appearances down the road!”

Whistler: “The Red, White and Blue is always true!” He patted my back and was gone….

Our final show of the year is approaching and I can’t believe an entire year has gone by, we have seen a rise to regional, the arrival of some promising new stars and the departure of some NYCE staples. Larry Vessey and his attitude have not been missed and since Land Mass has retired there is always plenty of food left at the after show buffet, but it is still a little sad to see these regulars go and none more so than Whistler. Though he is retired as a wrestler, he still has time left on his contract and I have decided to use him on Holiday Havoc to introduce a ‘friend’ to Steve Flash before he rides off into the sunset.

NYCW – Holiday Havoc – Week 2 December 2010

Pre-Show
Our pre show meet and greet includes Honest Frank, Rayne Man, Steven Parker, Dazzling Dave Diamond, Jared Johnson, Kentucky Bill, The New York Doll and Streetz this month and things go swimmingly until Parker and Rayne Man get a little too close.
Rating: D+

Steven Parker and Rayne Man soon begin to argue about why the other should not be part of the Triple Threat match tonight and it gets ugly real quick. Soon Honest Frank, Dazzling Dave Diamond, Jared Johnson, Kentucky Bill, Streetz and The New York Doll are all involved and a wild brawl ensues, with the chaos spreading all over the building as security rushes out to intervene.
Rating: E+

Main Show

vs
Roger Cage vs The New York Doll
Cage is leery of Streetz’ Chronic Future Stable, who has made a habit of interjecting themselves into each other’s matches and it costs him early as New York Doll is aggressive and gets the upperhand with some solid early takedowns and effective brawling. Once Cage gets focused he begins to mop the ring with the Doll, prompting Streetz to grab his foot as he rebounds off of the ropes, tripping him. Cage is furious and tracks Streetz down, grabs him and positions him for the Cage Rage outside of the ring, before Doll comes to the rescue. Cage beats Doll down and slides him back into the ring, before mounting the top turnbuckle. As he prepares to Frog Splash Doll, Sammy the Shark runs in and crotches Cage on the ropes, then delivers a non too subtle kick to the face in front of referee Michael Bull, bringing the quick DQ, much to the chagrin of The New York Doll, who argues with Sammy all the way to the back.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Roger Cage defeated The New York Doll in 11:58 when The New York Doll was disqualified when Sammy The Shark ran in and attacked Roger Cage.

Southern Comfort are relaxing backstage, with Triple D still working on the same crossword puzzle he had last month. “I tell ya what Bill, these dang things make catching a greased Pig seem easy. How bout a hand partner, five letters and the clue is blank or consequences….”

“Truth!” Diamond turns towards the voice just in time to take a boot to the head from Honest Frank, while Lee Wright nails Kentucky Bill with a chair. With the Tag Champs down the Gas House Gang lay in the boots and end the onslaught by slamming a table on top of a prone Triple D.

Honest Frank: “Mr. Wright, I think if there is one thing we have learned here today it is…….”

Wright: (scowling) “The truth hurts!!!”

Frank: “Indeed it does.”
Rating: E+

vs
Sammy the Shark vs Jared Johnson
Shark and Streetz come to the ring, with Sammy still looking upset after the earlier incident with his stable mate. This allows Johnson to take advantage outworking his more experienced opponent and frustrating Sammy with a solid array of mat wrestling. Streetz gets involved and it allows Sammy to regain control, landing a brutal flying elbow in the corner that leaves Johnson stretched out face down on the canvas. Sammy goes for the Ace in the Hole, but Johnson pulls Sammy’s feet out from under him and flips over into a bridge position on top of Sammy, nearly getting the pin. As Streetz jumps on the ring apron to distract referee Bull, Sammy rakes Johnson’s eyes as New York Doll runs to ringside with a Chair. With Johnson trying to regain his vision, Doll gets behind him, raises the chair and then stops…….Sammy motions for him to finish Double J, but instead Doll whistles, prompting Michael Bull to turn around. As soon as he does Doll nails Johnson in the back of the head with the chair and Bull promptly calls for the bell, giving the match to Johnson as Sammy looks on in disbelief.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Jared Johnson defeated Sammy the Shark in 13:35 when Sammy The Shark was disqualified when The New York Doll ran in and attacked Jared Johnson.

Back in the locker room Doll and Sammy are now in a heated argument as Cornell and Streetz try to intervene.

Sammy: "You aren’t playing with a full deck Doll!! We have Johnson down to his last chip and all you need to do is him and black jack, it’s over!!! What the hell did you wait for?”

Doll: “Well duh, the referee wasn’t looking, so I had to get his attention, what you got to say about that?”

Sammy: “Are you kidding me? You got me intentionally disqualified? You folded on me after I brought you Cage on platter? I went all in with you and this is how deal me?”

Doll: “Listen Captain gambler, you cost me my match, I paid your ass back, house odds……that’s how I roll……ah, excuse me, let me put it in a way you can understand….That’s how I roll the DICE bitch!! We got plans for the future in this crew and there ain’t any room to screw it up. So next time, get on the same page or get a new book……You feel me?”

Rick Sanders vs Regular Joe
The plucky youngster in energetic and gets in some early offense, but Sanders is as cagey as they come and soon chops the youngster down to size, where he goes to work on his legs, dropping knee after knee to the side of Joe’s thigh and then wrapping his knee around the steel ring post with cruel intent. Joe rallies briefly, but his injured leg slows him down and it is not long before Sanders has him on his back again. After a series of step over toe holds, Sanders applies the Figure Four and Joe has no choice but to tap.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Rick Sanders defeated Regular Joe in 10:03 by submission with a Figure Four Leglock.

Black Hat Bailey and Steve Flash vs The Ring Generals
The entire Gas House Gang comes to the ring, which immediately gets into the heads of the Ring Generals, but surprisingly Frank and Wright do not get involved, other than a couple of boots to the head when Statler is thrown through the ropes by Flash. Both teams do some solid mat work and it is not until late in the match that Flash and Bailey begin their rampant cheating, which includes choking across the ring ropes, thumbs to the eye and some other more demeaning tactics. A Bailey slap to the face, brings harsh retaliation from Waldorf in the form of a brutal two fisted assault that sends Black Hat diving to tag Flash back in. Waldorf briefly takes it to Flash as well, who blocks a Waldorf Salad Toss, then rolls Waldorf up, using a handful of hair to assist him. As Bull makes the count, Bailey grabs Flash’s feet and holds them on the ropes, insuring that Dean cannot kick out.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Black Hat Bailey and Steve Flash defeated The Ring Generals in 12:18 when Steve Flash defeated Dean Waldorf by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage.

With Bailey and Flash still in the ring, Whistler comes out to a big pop as the crowd chants “Welcome Back” but Whistler motions for them to be quiet as he lifts the microphone to speak. “Thank you, I love you all, but unfortunately I am not back. A stipulation is just that and I honor my agreements. Now, while I am done wrestling in NYCW.” Whistler points to the ring “I am not done with you two…..You see, never in the history of this country have we left anything unfinished. In fact what makes this country great is that Americans persevere and see things through, especially………..when it comes to the justice being served. My vow was to drive those that disrespect these principals from NYCW and I have not completed that task yet, but I will. And…I am willing to use any ‘force’ necessary to do it!”

Bang your head by Quiet Riot fills the arena and maniacal figure sprints from the back to join Whistler….

Rock Downpour: “Holy crap………It’s Jim Force!!!!”

Jim Force stares balefully at Steve Flash, before taking the microphone from Whistler. “Far away and deep in slumber the echoes of a thousand spirits awoke and spoke to me……wrapping their psychic tendrils through my mind, penetrating my thoughts, my actions and in the end the very soul of Force……..they carried me here. To a land of bright lights, tall buildings and a paradigm of evil known as the Gas House Gang….and it is now and only now that all has been made clear to the all-mighty Force and that clarity has now focused on you Steve Flash………..and so they whisper……………destiny awakes those who resist the Force.”

Southern Comfort © vs Honest Frank and Lee Wright – NYCW Tag Team Championship
Diamond and Kentucky Bill are not at 100% after their earlier beat down at the hands of Wright and Frank and it shows as the two big brawler’s abuse the Tag Team Champions from the get go, taking considerable delight in beating the tar out of the youngster Bill. Throughout the match Frank mocks the southerners and finally arrogance begins to set in as they have the match won after a Frank N Hurter on Kentucky Bill, but Honest Frank pulls him up and throws him into the corner, motioning for an already battered Triple D to take his place. Diamond tags his partner, who lies slumped in the corner and summons the strength to block a hard right from Frank and land several return blows, staggering Frank, who quickly tags in Wright. Triple D charges Wright, but is met by a boot to the head. Wright then picks him up, hits a back breaker, then hoists Diamond onto the turnbuckle, where he lands a superplex from the second rope, still not content to end it here, Wright elevates Diamond and lands a German suplex, maintaining the hold as Michael Bull slides in to count…1…..2….Diamond lifts his shoulder…..3!!! Wright and Frank celebrate, but Bull grabs the belts from them and hands them to Southern Comfort, explaining that Diamond got his shoulder up at 2, while Wright had both shoulders on the mat for the entire count. Wright is livid and threatens to brutalize the referee before security intervenes.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Southern Comfort defeated Honest Frank and Lee Wright in 13:12 when Dazzling Dave Diamond defeated Lee Wright by pinfall after Diamond lifts his shoulder at the last second avoiding a double pin. Southern Comfort makes defense number 1 of their NYCW Tag Team titles.

Donnie J © vs Rayne Man vs Steven Parker – NYCW Empire Championship
This one had some good back and forth between all three men early; highlighted by an exhilarating series of scientific moves featuring, arm drags, reversals and criss crossing off the ropes between Donnie J and Rayne Man. Before long however, Rayne Man and Parker were involved in a full on brawl, that saw Rayne Man get color after Parker monkey flipped him head first onto the top of the ring post. Donnie J took advantage of the situation to rest and seizing the opportunity when it was presented planted a sweet Death on Miami Beach on Parker, getting a near pinfall before Rayne dove on top of Donnie to make the save. Rayne Man then covered Parker, but Donnie J yanked him off and applied a Boston Crab that had Rayne Man ready to submit until Parker hit a desperation enziguiri to make the save. Parker and Rayne Man then double teamed the Champion, dropping him throat first across the top rope, then turned their attention to each other. Facing off, Parker and Rayne then went toe to toe and were soon brawling into the crowd after Parker threw Rayne Man over the guard rail. In the ring Donnie J regained his feet and gasping to catch his breath watched as both Parker and Rayne Man, so pre-occupied with their hatred for each other were counted out.
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Donnie J defeated Rayne Man and Steven Parker in 22:40 when both Rayne Man and Steven Parker were counted out. Donnie J makes defense number 6 of his NYCW Empire title.

There is a lot of excitement as we come close to you first sell out and put on some consistently decent matches from top to bottom. Jared Johnson walks by and I call him over. “Double J, you did well tonight in you first big shot, good job.”

Johnson: “Thank you Mr. Bradford, I was nervous as hell out there. I was just hoping I wouldn’t blow a spot or piss down my leg, I appreciate the chance.”

Me: “Well, I have been getting inundated by fan mail to put you on one of the shows….Amazingly the letters all look the same, even though they are signed by different people. You wouldn’t know anything about that would you.”

Johnson: (Staring sheepishly at the floor) “Wow, I’m sorry, I think that’s my cousin Crit, he is the guy that always has the where’s double J sign in the audience. I didn’t know he was doing all that.”

Me: “Well, I guess it's ok to mark out for your cousin, so Crit's efforts paid off, that’s kind of an unusual name by the way.”

Johnson: (Chuckles) “Oh, that’s not his real name sir, he thinks everything is always critical times 23, has to get done now, including me getting on the main card I guess. So….we call him Crit for short.”

Me: “Interesting, well good job again, you really ran with it tonight.”

Good kid that Double J, I hear Jim Force nearby and though it seemed like his debut was successful I didn’t feel like chatting tonight, since his real life conversations were almost as convoluted as his promos and I was mentally spent after our final show of the year.

January 1st 2011 and it was almost noon as I dragged my ass into the office. I had been to a new year’s party the night before and many of the wrestlers were in attendance and as will often happen with wrestlers, everyone had too much to drink.

Triple D as expected was one of the highlights and in addition to the girl he brought, who looked like she had not changed her wardrobe since 1985…..Which was both 25 years and pounds ago, Diamond brought his cousin D Mack up from Texas and it was pretty much these two that stole the show. My personal favorite was Triple D kissing everyone at midnight, a list that included a statue of Venus De Milo, whom he made out with for 5 minutes and my Uncle Derek, who kneed Triple D in the groin so hard he ended up kissing the bottom of a trash can and puking for a several minutes after that on his hands and knees. D Mack then decided it would be fun to ride his cousin like a horse since he “looked like a big old stallion with a feedbag on” in the puking position and hopped on his back. The humor level here really kicked up when we all realized D Mack had actually come to the party in spurs and promptly sank them into Dave’s thighs……

I wanted to laugh thinking about it again, but my head hurt so badly when I did, I stopped at a smile………

Stomper: “Well good morning drunk ass! I was so tired of waiting for you pry the Champagne bottle out of mouth and join the world, that I finished the last few calculations myself. You were right, we finished the year up $31,213.00 from where we started it and made a profit of $17,964.00 last month. A new high in gate receipts and our third best month in merchandise sales too. I really think we will get a sell out this month if you advertise it right and you need to start thinking about TV before the year end.”

Me: “I was thinking first quarter…”

Stomper: “Don’t be stupid, you know how much it takes to produce a TV show? You can expect to lose $100,000.00 the first year until you get some bargaining power and I am not cutting things that close! You get us to $200,000.00 in the bank and we talk, otherwise, I talk and you listen!”

Me: “Yes sir…”

Stomper: “I also want you to think about some custom merchandise, I think Force would be the guy to start with. He is as nutty as a Christmas fruit cake, but the fans seem to love him.”

Me: ”Yes sir…”

Stomper: “And stop with the yes sir BS, I know damn well the only reason you are not coming back with any smart ass remarks is that your head hurts and you don’t want to hear me yell. Now what’s on tap for Rush Hour?”

I sighed, there was a reason Uncle Derek has survived in this business for so long…He was usually right and it made my head hurt just to admit that, “Well, here’s what I have in mind.” I handed Uncle Derek the poster and went over my booking plans.

NYCW – Rush Hour – Week 2 January 2011

Pre-Show
Our monthly “Golden Ticket” event features a 4 on 4 elimination match that has the newly arrived force overcoming a 2 on 1 disadvantage with two of our top heels as he pulls Wright via Head scissors after being positioned on the turn buckle by Wright and Stranger. The Handsome one, thinking both men hot the floor turns to celebrate, but Force pulls himself back into the ring by arm strength alone, surprises Handsome Stranger and press slams him onto the floor.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Jared Johnson, Jim Force, Remmy Honeyman and Thomas Morgan defeated Lee Wright, Richie Riggins, KC Glenn and Handsome Stranger in 10:09; Thomas Morgan was eliminated first, then KC Glenn, then Richie Riggins, then Jared Johnson, then Remmy Honeyman, then Lee Wright, then Handsome Stranger.
Rating: D-

After the bonus match, Honest Frank, Dazzling Dave Diamond, Steven Parker, Rayne Man, KC Glenn, Thomas Morgan, Terry Twist and Remmy Honeyman take the time to interact with the fans and sign autographs. Honeyman and Glenn will both have to pay some dues, but I love each of their potentials, especially Glenn and with him being a southerner I see him in a program with Southern Comfort down the road, as the anti-good ole boy

& vs & w/
Roger Cage & Jared Johnson vs Sammy the Shark & the New York Doll W/Streetz
Streetz insists the Doll team with Sammy instead of his usual partner in The Young Moguls to get everyone in the Chronic Future stable back on the same page. It works well at first as Sammy gets the better of his former partner Cage and they are able to isolate Double J. Timing issues soon come into play as Doll goes for a tag, but Sammy is jawing with the crowd and not there, which causes Doll to take some serious damage from Cage. Streetz admonishes Sammy, and then takes matters into his own hands as Cage delivers a punishing facebuster and tags Johnson in to finish him off. Streetz jumps into the ring brandishing his pimp stick (walking cane) and sets to whack Johnson in the back of the head, while Bull fights to keep Cage on the outside. As this is going on Sammy now enters the ring and seeing this, Johnson lets Doll go and meets Sammy with a drop kick just as Streetz swings his cane missing Jared and cracking Doll in the head dropping him. Johnson then pounces on Doll and slaps on the Carolina Cross Face for the win.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Roger Cage and Jared Johnson defeated Sammy the Shark and The New York Doll in 12:21 when Jared Johnson defeated Sammy the Shark by submission with a Carolina Crossface after Streetz accidentally hit Doll with his Cane.
Rating: D-

As Sammy and Streetz try and explain to Doll what happened, Black Hat Bailey, Honest Frank, Lee Wright and Steve Flash come to the ring, with Black Hat picking up the House microphone on the way. “You know something, you bums remind me of a Keystone cops movie…..But before we talk about that….Edward Cornell, why don’t you join us out here.” Cornell makes his way to the ring, looking as puzzled as the rest of Chronic Future as Bailey continues. “You see, while I can appreciate your youthful enthusiasm, the bottom line is this…..The Gas House Gang runs NYCW and you guys are chasing. And just so you know, with embarrassing debacles like this…..the gap between you and us is about as wide as the empty space between Dazzling Dave Diamonds ears. That is why, I am about to give you an opportunity of a lifetime. You may not have noticed, but we (Bailey motions to the rest of the Gang) are not exactly spring chickens and we do need some new blood in the gang…..So, we are offering our experience, our wisdom and our protection to a couple of deserving pledges to insure that the legacy of the Gas House Gang will go on for many, many years to come.”

Streetz: “Yo, yo, yo…..you be tripping fool, look we give da Gas House much respect, but we be doing our own thing here you feel me…..And besides all dat, I got a dis!!”

Streetz pulls a contract out and hands it to Black Hat…

Black Hat: “Look at this, it is a contract, fancy language and signatures and everything. You know something punk, back in the old days of Five Points…A contract was made in blood, two men cut their thumbs and shook hands, they didn’t need all this crap….In fact, they used paper for one thing only……….”

Bailey takes the contract, crumples it and rubs it up and down on his ass, then tears it into a dozen or so pieces and throws it up into the air…. ”Contract voided!! Now, do you guys want to waste your time with a two bit street hustler who isn’t smart enough to pass a urine test, or do you want to have a real future with the kings of New York?”
Rating: E+

Cornell and Doll look at each other……………Then without saying a word step over and stand next to Bailey and Honest Frank. Sammy the Shark looks at Streetz, then steps toward the Gas House Gang as well……

Honest Frank steps forward. ”Whoa, stop right there Sammy, you see our offer was for Cornell and Doll only. The Gas House Gang is only interested talent, not some card shuffling jobber who thinks life is an analogy of gambling terms and parlor tricks. Truth is, you would be nothing but an anchor on this ship. You two have done nothing but screw things up for Cornell and Doll, so get the hell out of our ring and go hustle some tourists at three card Monty out in the alley there.”

Streetz and Sammy look at each other and Streetz raises the microphone again, but Frank cuts him off as the rest of the Gas House Gang surrounds him and Sammy… ”Streetz, the deal is done and you and that dark match Phil Helmuth standing next to you there are cordially invited to leave our ring…..Unless of course, you would like to find out just how much………….The truth hurts!!!”

Steetz and Sammy the Shark meekly turn and leave the ring as the new and improved Gas House Gang mocks their retreat.
Rating: D-

vs
Edward Cornell vs Regular Joe
Surrounded by his new Stable mates Cornell gives his best effort yet, taking the fight to Joe early and sustaining a consistent advantage throughout the match. Regular Joe stops the momentum temporarily with running shoulder block and a series of knee drops to Cornell’s arm, but Fast Eddie takes control again with an up kick and an atomic drop on the top rope. With Joe in a world of hurt, Cornell finishes in style with a wicked black lightning bomb that shakes the ring.
In a bout that had solid in-ring action but not much in the way of heat, Edward Cornell defeated Regular Joe in 10:29 by pinfall with a Black Lightning Bomb.

Jim Force is shown backstage power lifting obscene amounts of weight as he warms up for his match with Richie Riggins. Other wrestlers steer clear as Force slams the weights to the ground, closes his eyes and screams. ”Now I am infused with the strength of the this iron…its power has become mine and now I become…..unstoppable!”

As Force walks by Dazzling Dave Diamond whispers to Kentucky Bill. “You know partner, if I ever get to needing a five letter word for plum loco on this Crossword puzzle, remind me to try Force. He does look like a fun guy to party with though, hey, reckon we should invite him over for a couple of fire brewed Stroh's after the show.”
Rating: C-

vs
Jim Force vs Richie Riggins
Force hits the ring and explodes on Riggins as NYCW audiences are treated to his high impact style for the first time. Force basically just overpowers Riggins, who fights back but can’t seem to faze his maniacal opponent and ultimately just seems to make him angry. Force nails a brutal clothesline, press slams Riggins, then finishes the squash with a Full Force.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Jim Force defeated Richie Riggins in 6:43 by pinfall with a Full Force.
Rating: D-

Jim Force stands shaking the ropes as his music plays following the win, when Flash and Bailey hit the ring. They take Force down with a punishing array of punches and kicks, though the more they beat on him the more he seems to like it. They pick Force up and propel him into the ropes and attempt a double clothesline, which he ducks, then nails both of then on the rebound with his massive arms. The Gas House Gangsters roll from the ring and head for the safety of the locker room as Force stands seething in the ring.
Rating: D

vs
Dazzling Dave Diamond vs Honest Frank
Diamond tears himself away from his crossword puzzle and runs into a buzz saw in Frank, who is still angry about last month’s loss to Southern Comfort. He catches Triple D coming through the ropes and commences to beat him down as the bell rings. Diamond weathers the storm and shows he can fight dirty as well, distracting Frank by playing air guitar in front of him, then scoring with a kick to the groin. Diamond then hits a bulldog and hoists Frank up for the dazzle driver, when Lee Wright appears and spits on Diamond, who promptly drops Frank and goes after Wright, who beats a hasty retreat to the back. Frank plays possum in the ring, remaining on his hands and knees as Triple D reenters. As Diamond goes to pick Frank up, he takes a shoulder to the mid-section, followed by a gourd buster. Frank runs his thumb across his throat, and then buries Diamond with the Frank N Hurter to take the win and earn another shot at the Tag belts for himself and Lee Wright.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Honest Frank defeated Dazzling Dave Diamond in 12:11 by pinfall with a Frank-N-Hurter after a distraction from Lee Wright.
Rating: D

Whistler comes through the crowd to massive cheers and calls for the Gas House Gang, who show themselves at the entrance to the back. “Let it never be said that I do not stand for justice and will stop at nothing to see it realized. Last month I brought you Jim Force, so what do you do? You go recruit a couple and snot nosed, disrespectful punks to join your might gang. I have news for you all, your gang will never be more powerful than the things that true patriotic Americans fight and die for. So tip the scales all you want, because next month I am going to balance them up again….You see I have another surprise in store for all of you next month and I can promise you these……….When he gets here, there will be nowhere you can escape……the madness!”

Herb Stately: “Yawn…..Shouldn’t he be home waxing his flagpole?”
Rating: D+

Black Hat Bailey steps forward to address Whistler. “You know the reason you are ‘retired’ from wrestling Whistler? Because you are stupid, you were outsmarted time and again in the ring by us. We burned your flag, cracked your head open and ended your career as a wrestler. So now you go on this almighty quest to dig freaks and geeks up from around the country like that walking Picasso Jim Force to teach us a lesson….Well here is a lesson for you!! Some muscle bound freak who finger paints his face, and probably ate his share of paint chips as a child, is not going to take us down with his magical star wars powers! Now you talk about how we won’t be able to escape from the madness you have in store for us next month…..Well guess what ya bum, we eat, breath and sleep madness and welcome it…..We run this City and we will run you and every one of your pledge of allegiance spouting pals right the hell out of here! So keep ‘em coming and we’ll keep knocking ‘em down!”

vs
Rayne Man vs Steven Parker – Number one contenders match – Last Man Standing
The stakes are high in this match and it shows in the effort of both men as the action is fast and furious to start off, as the wrestlers exhilarate the crowd with brilliant transitions and some breath taking high spots. Rayne Man finally gets control with rolling senton and a 360 leg drop off the top rope. The action then slowed as Rayne Man worked a rear Chin lock that had Parker in agony. The Show Stealer finally broke the hold with a poke to the eyes and went on the offensive with a series of suplexes and a big splash in the corner, before choking Rayne Man with the tag rope. Referee Bull pulled Parker back and Rayne Man exploded out of the corner, dropping Parker with a wicked right hand and then hitting a Piledriver, to set up the Rayne Drop. As Parker struggled to squirm free, he caught Bull in the chops with his leg, dropping him. Just then Roderick Remus hits the ring and takes Rayne Man’s knee out. Both Wrestlers double team Rayne Man and as Bull begins to regain his senses, Remus rools out of the ring and slides a steel chair under the ropes. Parker hits a Future Shock on top of the chair and Rayne Man is unable to regain his feet by the count of 10, giving Parker the win and a February shot at the winner of tonight’s main event for the Empire Belt.
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Steven Parker defeated Rayne Man in 21:08 when Rayne Man could not beat a ten count following a Future Shock after interference from Roderick Remus.

vs
Donnie J © vs Handsome Stranger – Ladder match for the NYCW Empire Championship
Both men stare at the Empire belt above the 12 foot ladder as the bell rings. Circling, they come together in a collar and elbow tie up and Handsome Stranger hits a kick to the groin and goes straight for the ladder, slamming it on Donnie J’s head. Handsome Stranger then lays the boots and delivers a baseball slide to knock the Champion from the ring. Setting up the ladder, Stranger starts to climb and reaches the top rung before Donnie J dives into the ladder, propelling Stranger over the top rope. As Donnie J sets the ladder up, Handsome Stranger gets back into the ring and yanks him off as he starts to climb. The tide turns frequently as both men take turns using the ladder as a weapon, with Handsome Stranger body slamming Donnie on to it and the Champion coming back later to plant Handsome Stranger on the unforgiving steel with a suplex. With both men battered and bloody, Handsome Stranger rams the ladder into Donnie J’s face, leaving him down and out in the corner. Setting it up again, Handsome Stranger slowly starts his ascent as Donnie struggles to gain his feet. As Stranger reaches the top, Donnie grabs him by the leg and starts up behind him. At the top, both wrestlers grapple for position, when Donnie hits a Death on Miami Beach out of nowhere from the top of the ladder!!! Handsome Stranger lies motionless as Donnie makes it to the top to retrieve his Empire Title belt.
In a bout that had a good crowd and some decent in-ring action, Donnie J defeated Handsome Stranger in a Ladder match in 18:33 when Donnie J retrieved the Empire Belt. Donnie J makes defense number 7 of his NYCW Empire title.

Not really happy with our attendance drop, but I expect it to pick up next month at Rumble in the Bronx. The potential for Force is huge and as I ponder his future push, the man himself corners me.

Force: “It is definitely aligning Ace, tonight I felt like I was juxtaposed amongst the fans, my thoughts were their thoughts and the vibe was overwhelming and intense. They were alive and I felt as though we all shared the same aura, an energy that could not be denied, what a rush…..I am stoked about this Terry, thank you for signing me to your company…..Mr. Dave Diamond has been gracious enough to extend an invitation to partake of a cold Stroh’s or two, perhaps you can join in and engage in some deep and stimulating conversation with us.”

Me: “Wow, that sounds fun Jim, but I have to square up here, I am sure you and Dave will find plenty to talk about, hey if you are good at Crossword puzzles I am sure he could use your help on one he has been working on for about three months now.”

Force: “No time for such folly, as the sphere of the intellect cannot be contained by the boundaries of a book’s cover. Now that buffet table…..that is inspiring. Take it easy Terry.”

I was beginning to realize why Force played his gimmick so well…..It was really not much of a stretch and I think Herb Stately probably said it best when Force debuted, he really was Bat S**t crazy. As I sat there the thought of seeing Force and Triple D engaged in deep conversation did intrigue me for a moment as they definitely swam in opposite ends of the gene pool, but in the end I decided some curiosities were best left unexplored.

The sun peaks over the Brooklyn skyline and in a musty office a familiar scene was unfolding

Stomper: “What the hell happened to our attendance last show? 772 people are you kidding me, down almost 200 from December.”

Me: “But we made a profit of $16.195.00 in January and have almost 150K in the bank….”

Stomper: “And if Hell had a topless beach it would be a tourist attraction!”

Me: “What does that even mean?”

Stomper: “It means I want to start selling out the damn Ministry and maximizing our profits, hell can’t you put on a compelling enough show to bring people back? We were 54 Asses away from 1000 at Holiday Havoc and we drop to 772 for Rush Hour, what the hell?”

Me: “Well, it was right after the Holidays and maybe people didn’t have the money, I am sure we will be back up this month.”

Stomper: “That’s your problem Terry, you always have an excuse. In this business you need to be able to sell Ice Cream to Eskimos, just get it fixed. I need to lie down and take a nap, be quiet and leave me the lineup for Rumble in the Bronx on the table when you go.”

Me: “Uncle Derek, its 7:30 in the morning and you’re taking a nap?”

Stomper: “If you must know I didn’t get much sleep last night, ran into an old lady friend and well, none of your damn business, just make sure I am not disturbed!!”

I wanted to needle my Uncle, but knew if I continued to get him riled up he would only stay up and make my morning miserable, so I watched him settle in and put my cell phone on vibrate as I went back to work on my booking notes. No sooner had I done that than my cell began to vibrate….

Me: “Hello?.........Oh hi Jim how are you?…………..Oh you did, well I am just finishing up notes for the show right now……………….Can you come by and chat? Well sure I guess so, I mean who would I be to question any vibe you got…………………………..Well, I will actually be gone by then, but my Uncle Derek will be here and I know he has mentioned how interesting you are………Oh yeah, he loves talking to you, wait hold on Jim.”

I put my hand over the mouthpiece and tried to stifle the chuckle about to bust out as I thought about how funny what I was about to do would be………..If only I would be here to see it.

“Hi Jim, sorry, I was just letting my Uncle know you would be stopping by, he said that would be great…………….Yeah, he is excited too, listen he said he may be taking a nap around 9, but said you can just wake him up when you get here………………………Sounds good, see you later.”

With that, I finished the card up, left a copy on the table for Uncle Derek and headed out……. Oh if only we had security cameras in here. The look on Uncle Derek’s face when Jim Force wakes him up and starts going off on some inane tangent before he can even sit up would be well worth any punishment he would dole out to me later as a result of setting him up with the Force.

NYCW – Rumble in the Bronx – Week 2 February 2011

Pre-Show

10 Man Battle Royal
Our Golden ticket even for our first ever sell-out is a 10 man Battle Royal that features a slew of young talent along with some top guys. Rayne Man and Bailey were the final two after Cage and Kentucky Bill eliminated each other after a flying body press by Cage carried them both over the top. Honest Frank, who was coming out for the meet and Greet tried to interfere, but Rayne Man elbowed him off the ring apron, then ducked and caught Black Hat Bailey with a back body drop over the top rope as he charged in with a clothesline.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Rayne Man won a battle royal in 10:12. The final four competitors also included Black Hat Bailey, Roger Cage and Kentucky Bill, with Black Hat Bailey being the final elimination.

Our standard meet and greet with select Wrestlers followed and this month’s group included Steven Parker, Honest Frank, Jim Force, Roger Cage, Edward Cornell, Remmy Honeyman, Roger Monteiro and myself, in what was once again a popular segment.

Southern Comfort © vs Lee Wright and Honest Frank – NYCW Tag Team Championship
Wright and Frank are waiting as Southern Comfort take their sweet time coming out as Wild Eyed Southern Boys by 38 Special plays. When they do arrive all hell breaks loose with everybody going at it in the ring. Eventually Wright and Bill go to the floor brawling around the ring and Triple D and Honest Frank start it off. Diamond takes Frank’s measure early with his usual fast start, but once again wears down as Frank resorts to his bag of dirty tricks. Triple D tags Bill in, but the youngster gets caught in the wrong corner and takes a beating, prompting Diamond to storm the ring and try and rescue him. As referee Michael Bull pushes Triple D back to his corner, Kentucky Bill surprises Honest Frank with a small package, but with Bull’s back turned, Wright rolls Bill over reversing the pinning predicament. As Bull turns around and slides in for the count, Frank places his feet on the ropes for good measure and before Diamond can make the save we have new Tag Team Champions!
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Lee Wright and Honest Frank defeated Southern Comfort in 12:01 when Honest Frank defeated Kentucky Bill by pinfall while using the ropes for leverage. Lee Wright and Honest Frank win the NYCW Tag Team titles.

Frank and Wright show off their new titles for the crowd, enjoying the moment as the crowd responds with a shower of debris, prompting Frank to grab a microphone. “Tonight, we have confirmed several things are true. One, these hallowed belts will now adorn the waists of a deserving duo for the first time in over a year! Two, you idiots out there booing and throwing things don’t appreciate quality, which is clearly evidenced by the fact that most of you have wives so fat you would have to buy two extra tickets if you brought them to the show. And last, but not least……” Frank pulls out a crossword puzzle booklet and opens it up “We learned a fifteen letter word for losers is S-o-u-t-h-e-r-n C-o-m-f-o-r-t. Hey, it's only the truth people, and as Southern Comfort found out tonight……….The truth hurts!”

vs
Sammy the Shark vs Jared Johnson
Sammy starts off fast against Johnson using his experience to gain the early advantage, but Johnson has shown his time under the tutelage of Roger Cage has paid off as he starts to anticipate Sammy’s moves and soon has the Shark on the ropes. It is clear that Sammy, isolated, angry and desperate is a man on the brink of cracking after the events of the last month. Johnson scores a leg whip take down and quickly goes for the Carolina Crossface, which Sammy barely escapes by grabbing the ropes. From here he snaps, catapulting Johnson through the ring ropes by grabbing his tights, then following him to the floor and slamming his head into the ring steps. With Johnson badly shaken, Sammy then grabs a Chair and goes to work, slamming the hard steel into Johnson’s back time and again until Michael Bull has no choice but to disqualify him as Johnson lies motionless on the cold cement floor.

Rayne Man is backstage with me, practically begging for an added stipulation in his match with Roderick Remus tonight. “Terry…..Remus cost me a shot at the title last month and I don’t know why he felt like he needed to stick his nose in my business, but I want him to pay. I’m laying it all out on the table Terry, in a Cage, a Dog Collar match, I don’t care………Just please give me something!”

Me: “Rayne, please…..Begging doesn’t do a thing for you. I’ll tell you what, I’ll give you a stipulation match, but you’re going to owe me at some time in the future.”

Rayne: “You got it anything; just give me a chance to hurt that punk!”

Me: “Very well, since you want to lay everything out on the table……Tonight you and Remus will face off in a table match!!”

Rayne Man pumps his fist and walks to the ring, high fiving fans as he goes, who all seem to like the idea of seeing some wood splinter. I smile knowing that agreeing to return one of my favors may be akin to selling ones soul to the devil.

Rayne Man vs Roderick Remus – Tables Match
It is soon apparent why Remus got involved in Rayne’s match with Parker at Rush Hour as he comes to the ring accompanied by the Princess of NYCW Persephone. She is her usual annoying self at ringside and get’s into Rayne Mans head early, allowing Remus to land some high impact moves, including a big splash off the turnbuckle that leaves Rayne Man stretched out in ring center. Remus sets up a table outside the ring and then hoists Rayne Man up on his shoulder in an attempt to slam him over the ropes and through the table. Rayne Man wiggles free, blasts Remus with some forearms, and then whips him across the ring into the ropes. As he rebounds Rayne Man sets up a back drop near the ropes, but Persephone senses the danger and pulls the table to the other side of the ring as Remus takes the back drop and flies to the floor where the table had once been. Rayne Man then sets a second table up in the corner, slides Remus back into the ring and hooks him up for a suplex, Persephone runs in and sprays Rayne Man in the face with Hair Spray, blinding him. Remus picks Rayne Man up and prepares to Power bomb him through the Table, put Rayne Man, still unalbe to see turns the move into a Hurricanrana and sends Remus flying into the table set up in the corner, which explodes on impact giving Rayne the win.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Rayne Man defeated Roderick Remus in 14:07 when Roderick Remus was put through a table. During the match we also had Persephone run in and attack Rayne Man.

Whistler comes out and climbs into the ring as the ring crew cleans up the table fragments from the last match. “Gas House Gang, just like the oppressed colonists rose up against the tyrannical English Government more than 230 years ago, a new movement is welling here in NYCW. Oh say can you see………………The Madness that’s coming?” Before Whistler can get another word out Black Hat Bailey slides into the ring from behind and levels him with the Ring Bell.
Rating: D+

Black Hat Bailey stands over Whistler, who is out cold, with a sneer on this face. “Oh say can you see………..Stars? Hahahaha, Let me tell you something Whistler, no actually, let me tell all or you in attendance something and you can relay the message when your hero wakes up. I have been hearing about the madness and the revolution and the price of tea in China since this washed up Bum was retired by Steve Flash. Well, to quote a song from the 70’s, when even I was young….I ain’t seen nothing yet!! In fact….Until Whistler decides to join the Tea Party, or the Sarah Palin fan club and quit getting involved in the Gas House Gang’s affairs, all anybody is going to see.” Bailey points to Whistler’s motionless body “Is a whole lot more of this!”

Roger Cage vs KC Glenn
Persephone appears to be building quite the collection of clients as she returns to the ring with one of NYCW’s new signings KC Glenn. The youngster surprises Cage with some early offense, but experience will usually outlast talent and this match is no different. Cage fights back and soon gains control and hits Glenn with every move in his arsenal before finishing the plucky youngster with the Cage Rage as Persephone stomps her feet and throws a fit after seeing one of her charges go down once again.
In a match that had an average crowd reaction and some decent in-ring action, Roger Cage defeated KC Glenn in 7:55 by pinfall with a Cage Rage.

Jim Force is shown backstage, surrounded by onlookers as he prepares for his match against Steve Flash. Uttering a blood curdling scream, Force deadlifts a small compact Car parked near the service entrance by the bumper, then sprints toward the arena entrance fully charged after dropping it.
Rating: C-

As Force charges through the arena entrance he is clotheslined by Lee Wright. Honest Frank and Edward Cornell appear from backstage and join in the assault, punching and kicking the maniac Force in an attempt to injure him before his match with Flash, who stands in the ring smiling. Whistler, still reeling from the Bell shot from Bailey suddenly appears and drives the attackers off, swinging his flagpole wildly, as the Gas House Gang members scatter like Roaches. Whistler then helps a woozy Force to his feet and walks him to the ring.

Steve Flash vs Jim Force
Flash capitalizes on Forces condition right away, hammering the big man to the canvas with a series of double sledgehammer blows. Once on the mat Flash kicks away, then proceeds to isolate a leg and goes to work, attempting to keep Force from standing. As the cobwebs clear however Force starts to seethe with anger and eventually regains his feet as Flash reigns down blow after blow on Force, each one only seeming to feed his anger. Desperate, Flash sinks a kick to the groin and stops the comeback short, then panders to the crowd. His joy is short lived however as Force lands a clothesline from hell, then commences to toss Flash around the ring like a rag doll. Flash, in a state of panic hits the floor, with Force in pursuit. Soon Wright and Cornell are back and a full scale melee breaks out between Force, Whistler and the three members of the Gas House Gang, forcing Michael Bull to call for the bell and disqualify both men.
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Steve Flash drew with Jim Force in 11:05 following a double disqualification.

Donnie J © vs Steven Parker W / Persephone – NYCW Empire Championship
Persephone is ranting like a spoiled brat and yelling at Parker to win her ‘that pretty belt’ as the match begins. Parker goes straight to work and after a series of drop kicks followed by a Thesz press he attempts a pin, but Donnie J kicks out easily. The Champion rallies and though Persephone tries to create havoc around ringside, Michael Bull does a good job keeping her under control. Donnie J shows why he has held the belt for so long as counters Parker well, nailing a swing DDT that has the challenger on Dream Street. Donnie yells to the crowd to ‘rope off the crime scene’ and drives Parker into the mat with a Death on Miami Beach. Donnie J covers Parker, but Persephone pulls one of Parker's feet onto the ropes breaking the count. Bull misses the assist from Persephone, but Donnie J does not and tries to slap her through the ropes. Bull pulls the Champion back and lectures him as Persephone hands Parker her can of Hairspray. As Donnie J moves back in to grab Parker, he is sprayed in the eyes and drops to his knees, unable to see. Parker hits a Future Shock and Bull counts…1……………2………..3!!! We have a new Empire Champion!!!
In a bout that had a good crowd and good action, Steven Parker defeated Donnie J in 22:23 by pinfall with a Future Shock after spraying Hairspray in Donnie J’s eyes. Steven Parker wins the NYCW Empire title.

Backstage:
The mood is jubilant backstage as we celebrate our first sell out. In one corner Honest Frank is spraying our new Champion with Champagne as several other wrestlers mockingly bow to him. Dazzling Dave Diamond is giving his cousin D Mack a horseback ride in another corner, the really strange thing about that being that Triple D is stark naked. Uncle Derek is actually smiling and gives me a nod from across the room as he chats with Black Hat. It is a great scene and the boys deserve it.

Suddenly, I feel a tap on the shoulder.

Donnie J: “You know it was too damn early to put the strap on Parker.”

Me: “Donnie, you had a run of almost a year, you will still be a prominent player, but we need to get some others guys into the title mix though. I don’t understand why you are so unhappy?”

Donnie J: “Because I was the face of this company and we hit a milestone tonight and I think you need to acknowledge my contribution more than putting the strap on a newcomer so early.”

Me: “Donnie, you do know that whole face of NYCW feud with Handsome Stranger was just a storyline right? You also know that it is not a ‘real’ Championship don’t you?”

Donnie J: “Kiss my ass, I don’t need you to patronize me right now, you just screwed up.”

I stared as Donnie left, amazed that someone who was once a locker room leader had suddenly replaced Larry Vessey as our resident cancer. He mentioned before the show he was not happy about dropping the strap, but his reaction just now was unacceptable and left me with a lot to ponder about how I would handle his new attitude.

Uncle Derek was away on “spring break” as March arrived and I had Lee Wright helping me tie up some loose ends for “Ides of March.” Lee had such a bad ass persona and was usually all business back stage, but he did have a reputation as something of a “charmer” or as some would call it manipulator. As I worked through February’s numbers and he pitched a couple of booking ideas I could see that reputation was somewhat deserved, though he was very subtle about it.

Lee: “So how did we do last month, another good one?”

Me: “Down a little from January, but still brought in a pretty solid profit.” (We make $13,746 in February and now sat at $161,155.00 in the bank, but I did not feel comfortable talking figures to the talent as negotiating was already tough enough)

Lee: “Yeah, I know how your Uncle loves money so that’s good news for him. Tell you what though; I think we could even boost that a bit with another good old fashioned heat generating angle. I mean, maybe even up there with that brilliant angle you booked when Whistler’s flag got burned, man that was ballsy!”

Me: “Yeah, I was told as much and also told to tone it down a bit.”

Lee: “Come on, you had the crowd in your hand that night and we could use another boost like that, especially after a sell out last month.”

Me: “I take it you have something in mind?”

Lee: “Well, I’m not really that savvy in this type of stuff, but…..It did occur to me that we, uh you, could capitalize on the buzz of Jim Force coming here if you have someone take him out and cause a ‘serious injury’ if you know what I mean?”

Me: “Not quite sure I follow you, are you saying you should injure Force?”

Lee: “No, no, not at all….I mean, if you think that would boost his feud with our stable I wouldn’t mind doing it if you had nobody else in mind. You know maybe take a knee out while he is lifting weights, or hold the bar down on his neck while he is benching……I mean if you thought that would help I could do an angle like that.”

Me: “Ok, sure, thanks for offering, I’ll think about….hey I have to get these posters out for the March show, but we can talk later.”

As I left, I smiled to myself, for somebody that was just throwing things out there Wright sure had things pretty well thought out. Of course I am sure that Force being possibly our top face right now had nothing to do with his willingness to “help out”
