File is up! Deadline for extensions is... when I wake up tomorrow morning.

Congrats to Lufkin, last year's champs. Let's see if they can repeat!

Can I get a direct link for the file? My OOTP is rebelling against all attempts to download ANY league file right now. I can, however, download plain old links in firefox just fine.

Can I, as the current champ and one of only 4 human owners, ask that we have any early morning FA deadline as well? I'm in a car and wont have access to the file for free agency for about 3-4 hours. Anyone mind?

Ugh. I wish I'd read this 10 minutes ago. Reason the sim hadn't been run yet is because I got violently ill last night, and have just now come back to my senses. So, um... that deadline's passed, and the new file's up, I'm afraid.

(It was just the extension deadline, though. FA has only now just started).

Would it make it better if I ran two FA sims this week, so you didn't have just one-shot-and-done on any guys you lost?

Okay, extension deadline passing is A-OK with me, I was able to get that file you put up for me late last night. I was afraid I was going to miss free agency, which would be BAD.

OKay I got the new file. Are the rookies in it now? I didn't see any real pitching talent in there, and only a tiny amount of hitters.

Hmm. There were FAs generated, but I didn't think to see if I needed to spice it up like I have been doing. Let me do that and I'll post a new one.

Ok, new file with some added free agents is up, and looks a bit more appealing. I'll set a deadline of tomorrow night for FA offers.

Alrighty. It's January 1. I'm giving us another round of free agency, like I said I would. Doesn't look like there's much out there, but there are a few OKish prospects if someone wants to pick up a booster.

I'll process any more exports tomorrow night.

File's up!

As of 1 May, Harwinton's looking strong out the gate. Tombstone are their usual bottom-dwelling selves.

FLOP World Series of Baseball Semifinals

Harwinton 3, Lufkin 2 (12)
The game is tied at 2-2 from the fourth. In the top of the 12th, Víctor Ríos gives up the game with a triple to Neil Bancroft and a sac fly to Eric O'Brian.

Traverse City 1, South Hill 2
No score after the fourth in another very close game.

Harwinton leads 1-0
South Hill leads 1-0

Harwinton 1, Lufkin 3
The only scores in this game were in the 4th and 5th innings. Both series continue to be very close.

Traverse City 4, South Hill 2
TC scores 3 runs off Mike Adams in the 9th to come from behind for the win.

Both series are tied at 1-1.

Lufkin 12, Harwinton 11 (10)
The pitchers got tired of doing all the dirty work in this one, and let the bats duel it out. With the game tied at 11-11 in the top of the 10th, Stuart Crowley pops the game-winning home run.

South Hill 12, Traverse City 5
Not nearly so close in this one. South Hill had a 5-run third on 2 BB followed by a triple, a single, and a two-run homer.

Lukin leads 2-1.
South Hill leads 2-1.

Lufkin 6, Harwinton 7 (10)
Another extra-innings game, with Harwinton getting the better of it this time. Jeff Edwards is the hero of the day as he turns in a walk-off RBI single to tie the game in front of the home crowd.

South Hill 5, Traverse City 3
South Hill comes from behind on this one. Trailing 3-2 in the 9th, they get a solo homer, a double, a single, and a triple for a 3-run inning and the win.

Lufkin and Harwinton are tied at 2
South Hill leads 3-1.

Harwinton 9, Lufkin 7
A four-run 8th with two homers was the key to this one, as underdog Harwinton puts Lufkin on the bring of elimination!

Traverse City 5, South Hill 7
Not as close as it looks, South Hill lead 6-1 through the 7th, and hold off a come-back attempt by Traverse City. South Hill make their first Main Event!

Harwinton leads 3-2.
South hill wins 4-1!

This is day 6 of the semifinals. Will Harwinton manage to hold off Lufkin and make it a #4 seed vs #6 seed finals? Or will Lufkin make a come back to attempt to defend their title?

Starting for Harwinton is Rodrigo de los Santos. Starting for Lufkin is megastar and god-upon-earth John Cornett. This game should be a foregone conclusion, no?

Top of the first, Lufkin sits down in order.
Bottom of the first, Harwinton sits down in order.

Top of the second, Greg Hawk strikes out swinging. Up comes Christian Donogan, who has a career-best 28 homers this year... and on the 2-2 count he pops another one! The next two batters ground out, but Lufkin leads 1-0!
Bottom of the second, Rob Hampton, batting only .228 this year, hits a lead-off double. Cornett clamps down, and sends the next 3 in a row back to the dugout.

Lufkin leads 1-0 after the second.

Top of the third, de los Santos racks up 2 more Ks, as Lufkin goes down in order once more.
Bottom of the third, Cornett gives up a single to de los Santos, but he advances no farther.

Lufkin leads 1-0 after the third.

Top of the fourth, Lufkin grounds out, flies out, and strikes out.
Bottom of the fourth, Cornett fans the side.

Lufkin leads 1-0 after the fourth.

Top of the fifth, Christian Donogan leads off with his second hit of the game, a deep line drive single to the gap. Hector Orosco strides to the plate and sends a scorching grounder to second baseman Jeff Edwards, who steps on his bag then lobs to first for the 4-3 doube play. Next man up is Stephen Moore, who sends a liner between second and short, taking first base. Ramón robes comes to the plate... and knocks the first pitch for another single! Moore tries to stretch for third, and comes in safe. With men on first and third and two out, Cornett takes his place in the box, and gets ahead 2-0 before grounding out to second. Harwinton gets out of the inning without damage.
[i]Bottom of the fifth[/u], Cornett again makes quick 1-2-3 work of the Hurlers.

Lufkin failed to add on, but still lead 1-0 after the fifth.

Top of the 6th, Eduardo Cortéz doubles, but cannot advance.
Bottom of the 6th sees Harwinton's offense continue to be completely shut down, as once again they're retired in order.

Harwinton just can not get it going, and are fortunate to trail only 1-0 after 6.

The top of the 7th sees Donogan score a third hit with a lead-off single, but the next 3 batters do zip.
Bottom of the 7th, Keith Brown impatiently swings at the first pitch and grounds out to short. Up next is Rob Hampton, who swats at the 3-1 and drops it just below the mound for an infield single. Harwinton have an opportunity to come back here. Paul Dailey, with 27 homers and a .317 OBP this year takes his swats... and grounds the 2-0 pitch into a 5-4-3 double play.

Lufkin leads 1-0 after 7.

Top of the 8th, and John Cornett leads off with a strikeout. Tony Flores knocks a single to short right field, and Eduardo Cortéz comes up. But Flores is caught stealing! With two out, Cortéz smacks a single, but it's to no avail, as Paul Wells, with a .332 average, strikes out looking. Lufkin kills another of their own rallies.
Bottom of the 8th seeds Jeff Edwards and pitch-hitting Steve Hanna with back-to-back hits, putting men at the corners with two out. Cornett shuts it down again, though, as Tom Avery flies out on the 0-1.

Going into the final inning, Lufkin still leads 1-0.

Top of the 9th, and Harwinton sends in Jeff Madrigal to relieve de los Santos. He keeps up the general theme of the game, and sits Lufkin down in orer.

It's now the bottom of the 9th. It looks like Lufkin may manage to squeak out a 1-0 victory to tie the series. Cornett is still on the mound, and he strikes out Tyson McCarthy swinging. Keith Brown comes to the plate, takes the first pitch for a ball, then pounds one to right field... deep... deep... GONE! Harwinton ties the game in the bottom of the ninth on a solo homer! Lufkin sends in closer Víctor Ríos one pitch too late. He sits down the next two, and we go to extras!

We're into the 10th, and Juan Madrigal takes over the mound for the Hurlers. He sits down White, Robles, and Crowley. In the bottom of the 10th, Zander Young hits a 2-out double for Harwinton, but Ríos strikes out Roberto Uberuaga to end the inning.

After 10, the game is still tied 1-1.

Top of the 11th, Madrigal still pitching. Tony Flores flies out, then Ed Sawyer takes a four-pitch walk. He advances to second on a Paul Wells ground-out, but Greg Hawks dribbles one straight to first to end the inning.
Bottom of the 11th, Lufkin puts Alfredo Chávez on the mound. Chavéz has a 2.54 ERA and 1.15 WHIP this year. He gets two down on fly-outs before Keith Brown hits a double to short center. Rob Hamptom knocks another to center... but it's caught, ending the inning.

After 11, the game stays at 1-1.

In the top of the 12th, Harwinton sends up Eric O'Brian, who throws a magical four-pitch inning, his only ball being to third batter Ray White.
Bottom of the 12th, reliable Chavéz still on the mound. Paul Dailey flies out. Jared Godrey flies out. Neil Bancroft takes two balls...

THEN POUNDS ONE TO DEEP RIGHT. It flies 394 feet for only his 10th homer of the year!

HARWINTON WINS 2-1 in 12! HARWINTON ADVANCES!

Crapola.

Good job Linemen though. I didn't know if we had it in us to run again. I knew our lack of punch in the offense would wind up getting us.

1980 FLOP World Series of Baseball Main Event

In an unlikely event, this main event will see #4 Harwinton (67-59) duking it out with #6 South Hill (54-72). Harwinton leads the season series 11-7.

Whoever wins, it will be remarkable, but if South Hill can pull it out with a sub-500 record for the season, it will truly be one for the ages. Let's see what happens!

South Hill 3, Harwinton 10
Mike Adams falls apart in the fifth. He gives up a leadoff single to Eugene Rush, who is forced out at second on a fielders choice. Jesse O'Neill goes to first. Tyson McCarthy pops a single. Jared Godfrey drops one in, and the bases are loaded. Keith Brown pounds one to deep, deep center... going... going... CAUGHT! The catch is made, but O'Neill scores without a play. Paul Dailey is intentionally walked to re-load the bases. Steve Hanna gets behind 1-2, then forces the count full... and takes a walk! McCarthy trots home. Enrique Aguilar takes two strikes, then two balls... then gets beaned! Godfrey trots home. Adams is done for the day, and Yukichi Nakanishi climbs the mound... then lets Zander Young line one past short. Dailey scores. Hanna to third... rounds the corner for home... and scores! No play! Eugene Rush hits the first pitch for a fly-out to end the inning, but the damage is done.

South Hill 4, Harwinton 5
Jared Godfrey is the player of the game, with 2 hits in 3 AB, 2 RBI and a walk. Harwinton leads 2-0.

Harwinton 1, South Hill 3
As the series heads to South Hill, Wally Mueller puts up a great start. He gives up an extremely deep solo homer to Tyson McCarthy to lead off the fourth, but Paul Parkinson answers with a two-run homer of his own, getting South Hill back the lead, and the win. Harwinton leads 2-1.

Harwinton 5, South Hill 3
Daniel Rabbetts just couldn't handle the Harwinton bats in this one, giving up 4 runs in 6 innings, as Harwinton extends their lead to 3-1.

South Hill 8, Harwinton 14
Harwinton puts up two 4-run innings on their return home. They lead 4-1 and can finish the series off at home with one more win.

South Hill 10, Harwinton 5
Reijiro Suzuki has a wonderful day for South Hill, going 3 for 5 with two 2-run homers. The Anglers refuse to die on the road and force the series back to South Hill. Harwinton leads 4-2.

HARWINTON 20, South Hill 2
Apparently annoyed at not being able to close things out in front of their fans, they PUNISH South Hill pitching in this one, sending 6 out of the park. Jesse O'Neill hits 2, including one three-run affair, and Keith Brown slams 3, including a grand slam in the 7th. Not only did they score 20 runs, but they did it on "just" 20 hits, with only one error in their favor.

Harwinton wins the Main Event five games to two!

Congrats to the Harwinton Hurlers on their first World Series win and the biggest upset we've seen so far!

Lufkin has the hitter of the year, the rookie of the year, and, of course, the pitcher of the year... but this time the award goes to Emílio Guerrero, not Cornett. Guerrero went 17-3 with a 1.78 ERA and .99 WHIP.

File is being created.

For real. That's the kind of thrilling off-season I was hoping for when we made this league. Good on both of you, and on Lufkin for another outstanding season.

I think I'm going to need to start paying a little more attention to my Outlaws. I've been ignoring them a little bit in my effort to take the Osprey back to the Classic, and I think it shows. :P
