I am so smart, S-M-R-T

List of the cities with the highest percentage of college grads. In your face Tacoma, Seattle rules! Detroit is the lowest major city with 11%. Santa Ana, CA (odd?) was the lowest of all with 8%.

List of the 70 largest cities, not really an all-encompassing study.

Don't you have to graduate high school to be in the Navy? That would probably explain it...

Where would you cut it off? I think if you're interested in which urban areas have a high % of college grads, 250,000 pop is about right. I couldn't care less if some suburb of LA has a high %.

The issue of geography makes studies like this questionable, assuming they did use city data and not metropolitan data. If you are going to compare cities, you really need to make these areas comparable in terms of geographic size and density.

I would guess the reason Virginia Beach is so high, aside from the Navy aspect, is that it is huge and encompasses many parts that would be considered separate cities in other regions. The same can be said for places like Phoenix and San Antonio, which have large geographic areas.

I guess the % of college grads is right, but the % of high school grads in the 70's is stunning. I always assumed 95% of Americans graduated with a high school diploma.
