Plumbing Emergency
I've got a bit of a plumbing emergency. My downstairs (sub-basement) has water backing up out of the pipe that goes way underground (it's a hole and has a smaller white pipe running in it). It seems that the washing machine draining (the floor directly above this pipe) causes it to flood. I've noticed the sub-basement shower/bathtub won't drain either now and the water that does come up is dirty (doesn't smell or look like waste but dirt instead).
Anyone have any clue what could be causing this? I was thinking a simple clog but the fact dirt is coming up makes me think it could be something much worse. |

Could be roots blocking your main line out. Is the problem house wide or just with basement drains? If it's just basement drains it may be a massive clog in the basement line out, but that's better than your main line.

Seems to just be impacting the washing machine and one of the bathtubs. I ran the sinks upstairs and it didn't backup but I also didn't run it for very long. I'm in the city and don't really have any big trees that I could see causing an issue. Going to try some Drain-O if the tub ever rescinds.
