Five Great Players - Freshman Year
In case you have no idea whats going on, get caught up:
Five Great Players - The Recruting/2003 seasons We are following the careers of five great players: QB Larry Bostic - #1 QB, #1 overall prospect - Committed to UCLA RB Tommy Sherwood - #1 RB, #11 overall prospect - Committed to Stanford WR Irv Montgomery - #1 WR, #22 overall prospect - Committed to Michigan DE Erik Manning - #1 DE, #2 overall prospect - Committed to Miami CB Percy Lyon - #1 CB, #3 overall prospect - Committed to Notre Dame --- Our players went through a vigorous senior seasons while dealing with all of the pressures of recruiting. Only one of our guys, RB Tommy Sherwood (Stanford) made the All-Country team, while all five made the All-State teams. --- As for the NFL and College Football seasons: Super Bowl Champion: Tennessee Titans League MVP: Peyton Manning, IND - who signed in the off-season with the Browns. National Champion: Tennessee Volunteers Heisman Trophy: RB Derek Rice, USC - who was drafted in the 2nd round by the Giants. So, the state of Tennessee were big winners in 2003 capturing both the Super Bowl and a National Championship!!! --- Next up we will re-visit our guys as they have made their way through the off-season, progressed, possibly put on a few pounds and we will examine the positional battles they will have to face in their freshman years...

I really like this dynasty and the attention to detail. I was disappointed Percy selected the Irish over the Wolverines. It will be interesting to see how he fares in the Big House. . . Can you say "toast. . . well done, please"?

Week 3 this year! Notre Dame at Michigan. Percy Lyon gets his chance to shut down one of our other boys, Irv Montgomery and the Michigan Wolverines! Should be fun.

Hopefully, that will be a matchup to look forward to each of the next 4 years.

Re-meeting our guys...
Let's get caught up with our guys after a full off-season getting ready to start their collegiate careers, including where they will be on the depth chart, who might recieve a red-shirt and so on...
#1 QB Larry Bostic - UCLA Larry will not be starting his freshman year and I would be very surprised if he doesn't receive a red shirt. He is probably 4th on the starting depth chart. Tom Welch and Roderick Fulton, both Seniors, will both see time with Welch being the primary guy. Here is how these two performed last season: Tom Welch - 9 GS - 173-of-280 for 2,697 yards, 25 TD, 8 INT (166.4 rating). Roderick Fulton - 4 GS - 56-of-121 for 802 yards, 12 TD, 5 INT (126.3 rating). The third guy on the depth chart is a Junior named Roderick Parliman. He saw very little action last season and shouldn't this year either. He is currently a little better than our Bostic and should challenge him for playing time next season as a Senior. Then comes our guy Bostic and another interesting player. A red-shirt sophomore, meaning he has 4 years remaining, Bruce Strickland who my scout (Missouri) sees as being a future potential of '100'! This is something we will have to track very closely. UCLA is rich in Quarterbacks and this stud may not see action any time soon. I expect to see a red shirt placed on him. Other information: Major: Education GPA: N/A - yet. Aspiration - Excellent (100) Intelligence - Terrific (82) He is fairly happy (52) in his new situation and I expect that to go up once he gets used to life on campus. His girlfriend, Mandy should help with that. His UCLA Bruins will start the season ranked the #20 team in the nation. #35 RB Tommy Sherwood - Stanford Tommy is in a good situation. Right now, he is 2nd on the depth chart behind a Senior, Ronald Marincic, who is one of the top running backs in the nation. The other guys that are close to Tommy are also Seniors, Barry Lutz and Tony Nichols. With those three gone after this season Tommy should be the starter. Behind those four guys are junior Kurt Mathews, fellow frosh Willie Dennis, and red-shirt junior Lincoln Ballard. Here is how the guys that were there last year performed: Marincic - (13 GS) - 362 carries, 1,644 yards, 13 TD // 33 rec. 337 yards, 2 TD. No other running backs made significant contributions. I could see him getting a red shirt just because the two Seniors below him have comparable ratings to him. Otherwise, he is one injury away from starting. Other information: Major: Medicine GPA: N/A - yet. Aspiration - Very Good (74) Intelligence - Very Good (73) One thing we should keep an eye on with Tommy is his happiness. He must not like his current situation which is at a "poor" (5). This could be bad. His Stanford Cardinal are #43 in the nation in the pre-season polls. #8 WR Irv Montgomery - Michigan Irv is already the number three wide receiver on the #1 team in the nation. The Wolverines top three guys from last year have graduated and just junior Ben Ellard and senior Branden Nygaard. Being just a freshman and having such and upside he might be red-shirted. The other guys on the depth chart aren't worth mentioning at this time. Other information: Major: Geology GPA: N/A - yet. Aspiration - Fair (39) Intelligence - Fair (39) He is decently happy (49) with his situation at the University of Michigan and his Wolverines are ranked #1 to start the season. #74 DE Erik Manning - Miami Erik will be red-shirted as three seniors, Chuck Gerhardt, Paul Solomon and Kelly Watcher are ahead of him on the depth chart. With those three guys gone next season he will be the full time starter and have four years of eligibility. His fellow froshie Riddick Hunt will also be red-shirted and those two could make for a scary end combination for years to come. There are still three other DE's on the roster. All have been red-shirted and will most likely look for other schools to attend after this season. RS Soph. Fred Wuerffel, RS Soph. Emmitt Tyler and RS Junior Randy Rogers will provide little competition for Manning and Hunt in the future. Other information: Major: Algebra GPA: N/A - yet. Aspiration - Lousy (13) Intelligence - Poor (24) >>Hopefully the coaches at Miami realize how uninspired Manning is and get him help with his academics so we won't have to worry about academic ineligibility in the future. His is happy (who wouldn't be in beautiful Miami) and his girlfriend's name, ironically is Chastity. His Miami Hurricanes are ranked 8th to start the season. #36 CB Percy Lyon - Notre Dame Percy will be another to take a red-shirt. He has five players ahead of him right now. The two starters will be around a couple more years and two will graduate. The starters are RS Junior Broderick Jennings and RS Senior Robbie Morrison. Jennings will be around for 3 more years and Morrison has two left. The two seniors are the nickel and dime defensive backs and will be gone after the season Edwin Lane and Benjamin Jarvis. There is one more guy that could cause some problems in terms of playing time for our guy. Junior Levon Baumgartner is right now better than Lyon but doesn't have much upside and just two years of eligibility left. Lyon and his buddy with the same first name, freshman Percy Walters is also probably going to take a red shirt. Walters was the 5th ranked CB and the 29th prospect overall in the class. Those two will be tough to beat someday. Other information: Major: Speech GPA: N/A - yet. Aspiration - Excellent (100) Intelligence - Terrific (81) Percy is extremely happy with his current situation (92) and his girlfriend Farrah helps that out a bit. The Fighting Irish are ranked #10 in the pre-season top 25. ------------- Up next we will find out which of our guys are going to be red shirted (could be all of them) and get started on the seasons.

wow, if I was Bostic (I wish, eh) I wouldn't have chosen UCLA. Guess they're trying to become QB 'U'. Great info though... anxiously awaiting irv, erik and percy...

timmae - the other guys have been added above.
------ Unfortunately we will probably have to wait another year to see our guys in action as all five players have been red shirted. Barring injury they won't get in this year. I will breeze through this season if nobody gets in and get started on next year... Thanks for reading.

I am going to try to speed this up a little bit without missing out on any of the information that we are getting now. I will get this season done in like four or five more posts. I will do weeks 9,10,11 and 12 for both NFL and NCAA in one post, 13,14,15 and 16 in another and then weeks 17 and the post-seasons in another. Just a heads up if it takes a little longer for a post.

QB Larry Bostic's UCLA Bruins move into the top 4 of the BSC Standings. Notre Dame is still barely in at #10 in both polls. Michigan is #5 in both. Here is a quick look at the remaining schedules for the top teams: FLORIDA STATE (10-0) 13 - @ Duke While they should win this game and go undefeated it will not help their BCS much. That is, unless they kill them! USC (9-0) 13 - @ #10 Notre Dame 14 - @ # 7 UCLA USC has a tough road ahead of them. Two of our teams that are in the top 10 on the road. If they find a way to win both of these games, they should get the NC on the spot! GEORGIA (9-0) 13 - vs. #21 Florida 14 - @ #28 Georgia Tech The team I think is going to win it all has a nice matchup with Florida and Georgia Tech. Two games that should end up in wins, an undefeated season and a spot in the National Championship game. Should be interesting to see. UCLA (9-1) 14 - vs. #5 USC What a story this could turn out to be. Say USC beats Notre Dame next week and comes into UCLA in the final week of the season with whoever winning that game most likely playing for the National Championship! We will see. It is going to be intersting. All four of these teams have a shot to make it. They all deserve it but only two will get it in the end. They way I feel about it is if Florida State destroys Duke and USC beats both UCLA and Notre Dame that should be the final. If USC loses to ND and beat UCLA that makes it come down to Georgia (assuming they win both games) and Florida State. Gotta love it! We will go one week at a time from now on as the NFL playoff race heats up and the race for the national championship does as well.

NCAA Week Thirteen
FEATURED GAMES: #3 Florida State @ Duke As expected the Seminoles had no trouble knocking off a weak Duke team, 38-12. They didn't destroy them like they could have, which would probably help them out a bit. That ends the undefeated regular season at 11-0! Now they must sit back and hope they get that invitation to the National Championship game. Florida @ #2 Georgia The Georgia Bulldogs, #3 in the BCS rankings, and the team I think is going to win it all takes their undefeated record against SEC rival Florida. After the Gators scored first in the first quarter with a 34-yard FG, the dominant Bulldogs rattled off 40 unanswered points after being shutout in the first quarter! QB Lee Tubbs (16-25, 192 yds 1 TD) to WR Tyrell Phillips (7 rec. 100 yards, TD) was too much for the Gators to handle. Final score: Georgia 47, Florida 13. #3 USC @ #10 Notre Dame The Trojans complete half of the impossible, winning in South Bend, 30-10. This hurts Georgia's chances especially if USC can win in UCLA next week. That is going to be a huge game. That is the 2nd loss for the Irish this year and ends any hopes of a BCS bowl bid. Good season, nonetheless for CB Percy Lyon's school. Here is the top 25 scoreboard: #6 Michigan (10-1) 38, at #12 Ohio State (8-3) 21 --Another nice win for Michigan, could be in the NC game if not for the one slip up. #9 Nebraska (10-1) 35, at #10 Kansas State (9-2) 21 #4 Miami (11-0) 27, at #13 Boston College (8-2) 21 --Miami continues their impressive undefeated season with a win over upstart BC in Boston.-- #21 Florida (7-4) 13 at #2 Georgia (10-0) 47 Texas A&M (3-7) 0, at #24 Oklahoma (7-4) 59 Texas Tech (5-6) 13, at #1 Texas (10-0) 34 --Too bad the Longhorns just don't fit into the BCS system because they have had a great season-- #5 USC (10-0) 30, at #8 Notre Dame (8-2) 10 New Mexico (5-6) 10, at #23 Utah (9-2) 52 #3 Florida State (11-0) 38, at Duke (0-11) 12 Virginia (5-5) 31, at #17 North Carolina State (8-3) 24 --UPSET SPECIAL-- Wake Forest (5-6) 7, at #16 Maryland (9-2) 19 #18 Penn State (8-3) 22, at Michigan State (5-6) 13 #19 Wisconsin (8-3) 28, at Minnesota (5-6) 23 Syracuse (3-7) 23, at #25 Virginia Tech (7-3) 28 #27 Stanford (8-3) 28, at #45 California (6-5) 24 --Stanford finished the year on the right foot with a win at Cal. NCAA Week Fourteen Big week to determine who will be playing for the 2004 National Championship! In the biggest game of the college football season #2 USC goes into #5 UCLA with the right to play Florida State for the National Championship on the line! Who knew this was going to be one of the best games in recent history? UCLA started things off right taking their first possession down the field and settled for a FG. 3-0 UCLA USC does the same driving strait downfield and goes for it on 4th-and-6...end up with a TD! 7-3 USC UCLA quarterback Tom Welch threw a costly interception to USC whose kicker is injured and were forced to go for it on 4th-and-goal from the 16. Somehow they complete the play and go up by 11. 14-3 USC. UCLA is stopped again but they come up with a big INT on defense and RB Houston caps off the drive with a 16-yard scamper to paydirt. 14-10 USC. HALFTIME. USC 14 UCLA 10 The Bruins, backed by the home crowd in Pasadena came up with a stop to start the 2nd half and then drove 91 yards for a score! 17-14 UCLA The Trojans had an answer as QB Boone ran a draw from 3-yards out to score and make the game 21-17 USC. UCLA ball with 6:47 on the clock. They have a nice drive but settle for a field goal. 21-20 UCLA. 2:22 left USC ball on their own 28. Somehow the Bruin "D" comes up with a pick of Boone and have the ball in great position on their own 43 with 1:54 left. That set the stage for the heroics. A face mask on the offense AND an ineligible receiver downfield just killed the Bruins and forced a 2nd and 20. Two incompletions ended the game! GEORGIA NIPS USC IN LATEST BCS RANKINGS!
Trojans cry foul as the latest rankings have the undefeated Georgia Bulldogs ahead of USC and playing for the National Championship. PASADENA (AP) - Who would've guessed after the USC Trojans narrowly escaped Pasadena with an exciting 21-20 win over the Bruins of UCLA that they would finally be ousted in the BCS rankings? Well, nobody. The Georgia Bulldogs (11-0) have been waiting all season long to break that invisible barrier separating them from getting into the top two teams. It finally happened at the right time. On the heels of a 41-13 victory at Georgia Tech, they will get that shot. The Trojans, meanwhile, are scratching their heads as to why an undefeated season that ends with a huge win over a two top-ten teams on the road, would push them down. Both teams are undefeated and both deserve to be in the game. Unfortunately they both couldn't make it. This could be a non issue if the Bulldogs, who have a game to play yet, lose in the SEC Championship game. They will face #18 LSU (8-3). In other BCS related championship games, the undefeated Texas Longhorns will do battle with #8 Nebraska for the right to claim the Big XII championship. If Texas puts in a good showing they could add to the inevitable annual BCS mess. Only time will tell.

I wonder who does deserve it. I mean both had great seasons. Both undefeated and I think they both had tougher schedules than Florida State. Im away from my comp. right now but when I get back I will take a look.
Next week coming up tonight sometime. Geez, I just realized how much I am getting into this and our five guys aren't even playing. Wait until next year!

GEORGIA WINS SEC; BRING ON THE 'NOLES
The Bulldogs bully LSU in the SEC Championship and will play the Florida State Seminoles in the Fiesta Bowl for the National Championship. The Georgia Bulldogs will play the Florida State Seminoles in the Fiesta Bowl in a couple of weeks. The reason that statement is so impactful is because we have been waiting a long time for a concrete answer to that question. Georgia (12-0) finally got the respect they deserve as their undefeated season culminated with a 38-32 win over LSU in the SEC title game. Georgia now moves to #1 in all voter polls and in the BCS. Florida State (11-0) is a close #2. There was a major question as to if the BCS system was going to get it right. It got it right. So the stage is set for an exciting National Championship game. The 2004 Fiesta Bowl: Georgia Bulldogs (12-0) vs. Florida State Seminoles (11-0) In other Championship games the Nebraska Cornhuskers upset the formerly top ranked and undefeated Texas Longhorns 31-24 and capture the Big 12 championship.

VISTITORS DOMINATE FIRST ROUND
Four home teams lose in the NFL Wildcard playoffs! Home-field advantage took on a new meaning this week as the four road teams beat the home teams in the first round of the NFL Playoffs. In the first game the Buffalo Bills who won 2 more games than their hosts the Baltimore Ravens won 24-20. The Bills were denied a home game because the Ravens won their division with a 9-7 regular season record. The Denver Broncos made the trip to division rival Kansas City as both teams made the playoffs with a 9-7 record and the Broncos found a way to win 31-21. The 3-time defending NFC Champion Philadelphia Eagles keep the hope alive for a fourth as they go into Green Bay's Lambeau field and dominate the Packers 34-17. In the final game of the weekend and perhaps the most anticipated, the 11-5 Giants hosted the 10-6 Washington Redskins. The Redskins are propelled by a LaVar Arrington interception return for a touchdown with just 5:44 to play in regulation. They went for two and didn't get it but he defense held strong to bounce the Giants out of the playoffs, 15-14. Next up: The 2004 Divisional Playoffs... Buffalo (11-6) (-1) at New York J (11-5) Denver (10-7) at Tennessee (11-5) (-4) Philadelphia (11-6) at Carolina (12-4) (-3) Washington (11-6) at St. Louis (12-4) (-2)

NFL Divisional Playoff Results
Buffalo (12-6) 28, at New York J (11-6) 23 Denver (10-8) 17, at Tennessee (12-5) 42 Philadelphia (12-6) 23, at Carolina (12-5) 12 Washington (12-6) 27, at St. Louis (12-5) 24 Only one home team wins this week as the defending Super Bowl Champion Titans kill the Broncos 42-17. QB Steve McNair wants to win another title as he goes 20-for-30 for 212 yards, 5 TD's and zero interceptions! RB Eddie George added 96 yards rushing and CB Samari Rolle had a 65-yard interception return for a TD. Denver's season ends at 10-9. The Buffalo Bills, favored again but forced to play on road finds a way to beat the New York Jets 28-23. It was a back-and-forth game all day long but in the end Drew Bledsoe's 24-yard strike to Eric Moulds would be too much for them. RB Charlie Garner was instrumental for the Bills in the win as he ran for 101 yards and a key touchdown. The favored Carolina Panthers could only muster four Quentin Griffith field goals as the Philadelphia Eagles win again in the playoffs 23-12. WR Dante' Hall caught 2 TD passes from Donovan McNabb to propel the Eagles into the NFC Championship game for the fourth strait season. The St. Louis Rams falter at home to the red hot Washington Redskins in a great game. Our boy RB Sultan McCullough had a huge 10 yard TD run in the game and the difference was a 95-yard TD pass from Patrick Ramsey to Taylor Jacobs with 4:55 left in the game! The Conference Championships are set. In the AFC the Tennessee Titans will host the Buffalo Bills. The NFC's version of the game will be hosted by the familiar Philadelphia Eagles as the Washington Redskins look to win on the road for the 3rd strait week!

GEORGIA BULLDOGS COMPLETE DREAM SEASON!
'Dawgs come from 21 down to win the National Championship! In one of the most explosive championship games in recent memory, the Georgia Bulldogs reign as Champions of college football! The final score was 35-24. The Florida State Seminoles, #2 in the BCS rankings and 2 point underdogs in the game jumped out to a 21 point lead behind quarterback Kendall Van Anden who found his running back Corwin Labbe twice after RB Sammie Scovill started the scoring on the first drive wiht a 19-yard scamper. The Bulldogs got back into the game with a 39-yard TD pass from Heisman candidates QB Lee Tubbs to WR Tyrell Phillips. Tubbs then found Ian Solis just before halftime to narrow the lead to 7 points. All during this offensive onslaught led by Tubbs and Phillips, the Georgia defense, which had been embarrased in the first quarter, had picked up their game immensely. At halftime the quarterbacks were stealing the show as Van Anden had 230 yards and Tubbs had 239! A couple punts started the 2nd half and then Wesley Whitfield scored from 5 yards out to tie the game at 21. WR Tyrell Phillips showed up again as the Dawgs took the lead on another 6 yard strike to take the lead. The Georgia defense was able to come up with another three-and-out forcing another 2nd half Seminole punt. Then the Bulldogs put the game away as Wesley Whitfield scored from 34-yards out. A Florida State field goal was all they could muster as the celebration began and the Georgia Bulldogs complete the dream winning 35-24 and becoming the National Champions!

TENNESSEE REPEATS!
Like Fiesta Bowl, the Titans overcome 21-0 deficit to win Super Bowl XXXIV! With 8:11 left on the clock in overtime Jeffrey Seay kicked a 32-yard field goal to complete the comeback and secure the second strait Super Bowl championship for the Tennessee Titans! The Eagles jumped out to a 21-0 lead with Donovan McNabb finding FB Jon Richie twice from 5 and 2 yards out. A Duce Staley 4 yard TD run put them up 21-0. Then they went into a comfort zone. The Titans started the comeback with a simple 39 yard field goal by Seay. Then Steve McNair took over. He found his favorite target Derrick Mason from 53 yards out and then Tyrone Calico from 16. Seay kicked a 37-yarder and then McNair found a rookie tight end, 4th round pick from Colorado with a 2 yard out. The Eagles show a lot of fight to come down the field and David Akers kicked a 21-yard field goal to tie. Philly won the coin toss and the Titans stopped them. The Eagle "D" came up with a stop too but Donovan McNabb threw an interception to give the Titans the ball back. The key play was a Christopher Brown 27 yard run down to the Eagles' 20 yard line. That set the stage for the rookie kicker from this year's champion Georgia! What a week for Jeffrey Seay. The Titans win Super Bowl XXXIV 37-34 in overtime to capture their 2nd world championship in a row.
