Missouri wins the group, easily, and has one of the better point differentials of 8-2 group winners. A top 30 seed should be good for them. The runner-up spot was a 3 way tie. First tiebreaker (as you know) is head to head amongst the other teams. Stony Brook went 3-1 against San Diego and Fairfield, San Diego went 2-2 against Stony Brook and Fairfield, and Fairfield went 1-3 against Stony Brook and San Diego. So Fairfield, even though they had the best point differential of the 3 teams, drops to 4th place in the group. Stony Brook swept San Diego in their 2 meetings so, Stony Brook gets the second spot in Group 53. With that awful point differential, they'll almost certainly be the last seed for group runner-ups, which would be seed #116. San Diego as mentioned before, gets third place, but not nearly enough to qualify for a wildcard spot. This means that Vermont gets to hang around to see another group. It also means that Green Bay has clinched a wildcard berth. Here are the updated wildcard standings:

Utah wins the group on a tiebreaker. Utah and Kentucky split their meetings, so we go to point differential. Utah wins the group by 3 measly points. However, 7-3 is the worst record for group winners, and Utah has the lowest point differential of those 7-3 group winners, so if my math serves me correctly, this would put Utah as the lowest seed of the group winners, seed #58. Kentucky gets second place, and should figure in the middle of the group runner-ups. Cincinnati takes third, and has enough of a point differential to get into the wildcard chase. Unfortunately, this does eliminate Vermont. Had Cincinnati beaten Kentucky in Week 10, then Kentucky would have been 6-4 and their point differential wouldn't have been high enough to advance. As it stands, Cincinnati is in.. Vermont is out. This also does clinch a berth for Texas St., with 4 groups to go. All 7-3 third place teams have already clinched their wildcard spots so far. No matter what, the winner of the Valpo-Maryland games wins the group. If Maryland wins, they would win the group outright, if Valpo wins, it would be a tiebreaker, but it would also mean that Valpo swept Maryland, which would give them the tiebreaker. San Francisco must win to even have a chance at a wildcard. The St. Peters game doesn't matter, because even if St. Peters does slide up to third place, they wouldn't qualify for a wildcard.

There is at least 1 other group runner-up that has a 7-3 (+47) mark, so Valpo will have to deal with some tiebreakers once group play is finished. San Francisco was sitting good at 5-2 after week 7, but lost their last 3, knocking them out of the wildcard hunt. LSU is happy about this, as they survive 1 group, but they still have 3 more groups to survive. Iona celebrates, as they have clinched a wildcard berth thanks to the results of this group. It's pretty simple, the Colorado-BYU winner wins the group. After that it gets a bit more complicated. The Colorado-BYU loser will still make the round of 128 with a 7-3 record, but.... if W. Virginia wins their game, they'll be in a second place tiebreaker with the Colorado-BYU loser. As for W. Virginia, if they win, they are in. If they lose, they must lose by only 1 or 2 points to still be in the wildcard chase. A 3+ point loss by W. Virginia eliminates them from further competition. Confused yet? That's the wildcard for ya.

Colorado wins the group and should get into the top 30 as far as seeds go. BYU takes second, as they win the point differential tiebreaker with W. Virginia since they split their 2 games.. There are a few teams ahead of them as far as point differential at 7-3, but not many. I look for BYU to get a seed in the low 60s, high 70's. And we have a major shake up in the wildcard standings, for the first time. W. Virginia with their 7-3 record and high point differential, has actually clinched a wildcard berth immediately after playing their group. We've had a few teams that have clinched a wildcard berth 1 group after they played, but none on the same group. This means a few things.

1. Every team that had already clinched a wildcard berth moves down a spot in the wildcard standings (aside from N.C. Central, which still owns the top wildcard spot).

2. This does eliminate LSU officially (tough luck StLee, but I'm sure I'll be doing more projects in the future so you can root them on.)

3. Cincinnati, which was looking to clinch a wildcard berth from the results of this group, does NOT clinch yet, and must wait for at least 1 more group to clinch. Here are the updated wildcard standings:

#128 George Washington vs. #1 Kansas

My Prediction

Gotta go with Kansas in this one, can't really see the Hawks having too much trouble.

George Washington- 70, Kansas- 66

Guys, I'm absolutely stunned at this result. Kansas was not even tested in group play. This would be the equivalent of a #16 seed beating a #1 in the actual NCAA tournament. GW had an 8 point halftime lead and shot 52% from the field.

#65 Dayton vs. #64 UConn

My Prediction

Tough choice, as the 64-65 game should be. I like UConn though.

guys, I had planned on using a different format with a little more info for the round of 128 and future rounds, but quite honestly, I would like to get this project done, so the format you saw for the first 2 games will be the format for the rest of the tournament. I know that it isn't flashy or anything, maybe a little too simple and doesn't capture the excitement that a tournament should.. but to be honest, group play burnt me out, and I'm ready to get this done, take a couple months away from Whatifsports, and then come back with something fresh after basketball season! Hope you all understand!

The other reason I am keeping it simple is because, honestly, simple is what works for me, and I wouldn't even know how to spice it up. So I hope you guys are ok with this

#97 Detroit vs. #32 Texas A&M

My Prediction

Based on the results of the first 2 games, I'm tempted to go with Detroit.. but I won't. I think Texas A&M gets the higher seeds back on track.

This is becoming quite comical. Could it be possible that the lower seeds will win every single game? Surely not. This one wasn't even close. Detroit led by 19 at halftime and never looked back.

#96 Washington vs. #33 Wisconsin

My Prediction

I figure if I pick Washington, then the higher seed Wisconsin will win. So I'm picking Washington.

Wisconsin- 70, Washington- 50

Wisconsin becomes the first higher seed to win, and they did it in convincing fashion. The big difference was on the boards, as Wisconsin outrebounded the Huskies 43-21.

My Prediction

Minnesota all the way. Air Force struggled mightily in group play.

Minnesota- 77, Air Force- 59

Trevor Mbakwe led Minnesota with 19 points and 9 boards, and the Gophers outrebounded Air Force 37-18.

#80 Mercer vs. #49 Weber St.

My Prediction

This is an interesting match-up. I'm going with Weber St., but it should be a good game.

Weber St. led by 5 with about a minute to go but just couldn't make free throws. Mercer hit a couple threes and before you know it, they walk out the winners. As I've always said, you can separate the good teams from the great teams by one thing: free throw shooting.

#112 Florida Atlantic vs. #17 St. Marys

My Prediction

There seems to be a major talent difference between the teams. I've gotta go with St. Marys.

This one was a lot closer than I expected. 21 points from Stefan Moody kept Fla Atlantic in the game, but they had no answer for St. Marys' Matthew Dellavedova, who had a game high 23 points.

My Prediction

This one is really tough. Valpo has a history of being a Cinderella team at the NCAA tournament, and Oklahoma has been pretty inconsistent over the past few years. I'm going out on a limb (which I like to do) and picking Valpo.

Boy did I look stupid with that prediction or what? Oklahoma led by as many as 29 in the first half, and shot over 60% from the floor. Very tough to beat teams that are shooting like that.

My Prediction

Hard to go against Southern Miss in this one. They just have a stronger team all around.

My Prediction

FGCU were the darlings of the 2013 NCAA Tournament, and I feel like they can win this game as a lower seed.

FGCU got a tip-in from Bernard Thompson to send the game to OT, but they couldn't get it done, as a last second heave fell well short, and Fresno St. gets the big win.

My Prediction

Cal all the way. Ball St. may keep it close though.

Another upset early in the tournament, as Cal came back from an 8 point deficit with 3 minutes to go. Justin Cobbs had a chance to complete the comeback but missed a buzzer beater in regulation.

My Prediction

This is a tough, tough game. We know Robert Morris upset Kentucky in the 2013 NIT, but I think Boise St. will take care of business here.

My Prediction

E. Michigan had a nice run in group play, but I think their luck is about to run out. They can't match up with VCU's havoc defense.

VCU forced 17 turnovers and got a nice all about effort from Darius Theus (14 points, 4 rebounds, 8 assists.)

I like BYU to win this one as the lower seed.

My Prediction

Tough one to call. Although Tennessee is a much lower seed, I've always liked Cuonzo Martin as a coach. However, Miami has a pretty good coach too in Frank Haith. I think I'll go with Miami, but I could see this one going either way.

This was an outstanding game, neither team led by more than 7 points the entire game. Shane Larkin was the difference for Miami, as he had 17 points, including a big three pointer late.

My Prediction

I can honestly say I'm not too familiar with either of these teams so I'm just gonna go with the higher seed and say Coastal Carolina.

My Prediction

Obviously I'd like Kansas St. to win, but in reality they were quite inconsistent in the 2012-2013 season. I'm going with Missouri by single digits.

An amazing finish in regulation. With 5 seconds left, Missouri's Jabari Brown hit a three to tie the game at 68. With 1 second left, Kansas St.'s Shane Southwell gave the Wildcats a three point lead with a trifecta. But Kansas St. forgot to play defense and gave up the home run ball as Brown just beat the buzzer for Mizzou, hitting his second trey in 5 seconds. The Cats couldn't recover and were dominated in the extra period.

My Prediction

Short and sweet, UNLV in a rout.

Stony Brook led by 5 at halftime but UNLV tightened up the defense late, not allowing a basket in the final 80 seconds to hold on to a game that was much closer than expected.

My Prediction

I think it'll be a lot closer game than the seedings show, but I like Iowa.
