Inheritance etiquette question

When has enough time passed that it becomes appropriate to follow up on an inheritance? My grandfather passed away 7 months ago and he had told me I was in his will. I don't have the name of the attorney handling the affairs so I would have to contact one of my aunts to inquire.

I think it is reasonable to ask who the executer of the will is at this point.

I'd look at it this way:

When you die, how long do you want your heirs to wait to get your dropped loot?

You should be notified fairly quick, when its fully resolved takes time.

I agree. A simple question as to who is handling the will should suffice. I don't think you need to go into more detail if someone else is snooping for answers.

This. You should hear in a month or two, but can take 12-24 months to resolve.
