-- Man U won the league cup so they are in the Euro Cup next year. The FA Cup final is between Newcastle and Blackburn, guaranteeing that the #7 team is screwed. That team will be Liverpool. Its been a rough couple years for Liverpool, they finished 4th last year and missed the Champions League due to Man City winning the Champions Cup, and this year they will finish 7th but miss the Euro Cup.

-- same headline as last week... "Darcy rallies the troops" ... yes yes, motivate everyone!! This kid mentally is seriously a stud, maybe he needs to be considered for captain or at least vice captain sooner rather than later.

May 10th, 2026

Blackburn (16th) @ Ipswich (23-9-5, 2nd)

We are huge 4:7 favorites in our final match of the year, Blackburn are 4:1. Surely there's no fear of complacency with so much on the line today? We are 5-6-4 lifetime against Blackburn. We haven't lost to them the last 8 times we've played... but the last 3 meetings in a row have been draws. We are 3-1-0 at home the last four years, I'm hopeful we'll put this one away and force Arsenal to get the job done themselves.

GK: Bogdanovs
D: Kirkland/Bartlett/Aldrovandi/Jackson
M: Crespo/Jean/Mills/Gordon
F: Darcy/Di Giuseppe

Di Giuseppe is ready to go and I feel like I must play him. Constantino and Bryan are both available. Bartlett starts over Mattle after some bad PR in our pregame presser that had a small negative impact on Mattle.

Attacking today.

10': Newcastle/Arsenal scoreless. We are in control here, attacking highlights abound.

15': Jackson just misses a long shot wide.

19': Newcastle 1 : 0 Arsenal. WE MUST SCORE.

27': Gordon is hurt and must leave the match immediately. Chrzanowski is in.

30': Crespo a corner, Aldrovandi wins a header, but its high.

30': Arsenal ties Newcastle 1:1.

38': We win a ball in defense, a long ball goes ahead to Darcy, he dribbles into the area, he's well covered though.. .tackled... penalty given!!!! Jean takes the penalty and scores. 1-0 GOOOO NEWCASTLE.

42': A strong attacking move, Di Giuseppe with a run down the right, cross into the area, Darcy heads it, but the keeper is there.

46': Mills wins a ball in the defensive end, passes to Darcy just past midfield, ahead to Di Giuseppe... he's in the area, clear cut chance.. but saved.

HALF: We need another goal to feel better, but we're playing well and are in control. 9 shots, 7 on target to 2 shots for them. Newcastle 1 : 1 Arsenal. We need Newcastle here!

49': Awwww. Arsenal takes a 2:1 lead on Newcastle.

52': Newcastle has tied Arsenal right back up, 2:2

54': We're playing too aren't we? Di Giuseppe receives a through ball and scores easily.. but was offside. Boo!

67': Free kick near midfield, passed out wide left, Crespo with a cross, Di Giuseppe is all alone behind his man and heads it in! 2-0

68': Now we really are just watching Newcastle/Arsenal's score heh.

77': Damn, Darcy is injured and must come off immediately. Connolly is in, Jean DMC, Connolly MC, Di giuseppe up front by himself.

We get the win but that Newcastle/Arsenal score just never does change again.

Ipswich 2 : 0 Blackburn

Man of the Match: Juan Pablo Crespo (7.8)
Goals: Jean (7.4), Di Giuseppe (7.3)
Assists: Darcy (7.2), Crespo
Notables: Bogdanovs (7.0), Jackson (7.2), Kirkland (7.3), Bartlett (7.7), Aldrovandi (7.0), Chrzanowski (7.0)

After the match I look at our final place just to make sure I didn't miss a goal or misread something, but alas, its not going to change no matter how long I look.

-- Newcastle 2 : 2 Arsenal

1. Arsenal - 25 wins - 6 draws - 7 losses - 87 goals - 30 allowed - +57 goal differential - 81 points
2. Ipswich - 24 wins - 9 draws - 5 losses - 64 goals - 22 allowed - +42 goal differential - 81 points

We tied Arsenal in points for first place but their offense was a force of nature this year, Arsenal wins the league.

On the last day its CHELSEA that falls out of the top 4. Chelsea travel to Huddersfield on the final day of the season, Huddersfield wins 2:1. Man City comes through with a win over Sheffield Utd and the top 4 are Arsenal, Ipswich, Huddersfield and Man City. Chelsea, Man Utd and the FA Cup winner will play in the Euro Cup.

-- Darcy is out 2 weeks and Neil Gordon 2 months with injuries suffered today. Gordon has the dreaded generic "hip injury".

Ipswich have been given $32,340,000 for their final position in the English Premier Division

Ipswich have qualified for the 2026 Champions Cup by coming 2nd in the Premier Division

-- We pay out a $2.8M bonus for our finish in the EPL.

-- Our profits still have us with a loss of $4 Million on the year, for now, we'll see how things even up after TV payouts for the Euro Cup and the like.

We had 19 players average > 7.0 rating this year. Changing it to league play only and its still 18 players over 7.0 average rating.

A productive amount of goals from all four strikers, Jean and Gordon.

Eight players with 7 or more assists.

Yes I see Sergio Roberto at the very bottom of the list. Hopefully he follows the same pattern Jean did when we paid so much for him

Expiry is 6/30 on the year mentioned. Its currently May 2026, so anyone listed 2026 is expiring this year.

Instead of being sorted by rating this is sorted by my opinion of them in senior team depth chart.

Maybe I don't re-sign Capitani next year. I expected things to be much more even between them but Bogdanovs is so so good. Lines is underused, I did get him out on loan some but I am just awful at bringing up keepers.

Sergio Roberto needs to perform big time to justify his contract. Mills expires next year and could be a salary casualty. Smith and Connolly are really really good, so is Mills but he's made noise about wanting a new challenge and he makes a ton. We might have a decision with him, as much as I do like him.

We're at the point now where our DC's and guys like Gordon and Constantino give us experience but we are still full of young exciting players and I think we've done a pretty good job at bringing in just enough young talent (Connolly/Smith/Crespo/Bryan/Darcy/Di Giuseppe) to keep us going really really strong.

Constantino 31 though, and remember when I took over Ipswich and Neil Gordon was essentially my "pet project"... a guy my coaches initially shrugged off as just ok but that I was really excited about and insistent on making a huge part of the team, well Gordon is 30 now. Matthew Khan was the star striker on the team when I took over, and we're about to let him go without even a contract offer. This dynasty's getting old!

Yuri Di Giuseppe has won the English Players Young Player of the Year award

-- Craig Smith of Ipswich is 2nd and Everton wonderkid DC Kieran Connor is 3rd. Go Di Giuseppe!!!~

English Players Team of the Year

GK: Alphonse Areola - Man Utd
DL: Stuart Kirkland - Ipswich
DC: Senyi Thiam - Arsenal
DC: Ronan O'Brien - Huddersfield
DR: Serge Aurier - Chelsea
ML: David Moreno - Man City
MC: Bob van Schijndel - Man Utd
MC: Tal Gamliel - Arsenal
MR: Neil Gordon - Ipswich
ST: Burgra Yildirim - Arsenal
ST: Jeroen Mihci - Man City

Dmitrijs Bogdanovs is the backup keeper on the team.

-- Ipswich given $5,022,000 for TV Rights for the Euro Cup

-- We pay out $375k to the squad for Euro Cup bonuses.

-- With that we've now turned a minimal profit though salaries the rest of the way will probably knock it back down slightly into the red.

-- At. Madrid beat Frankfurt to win the Euro Cup

-- Newcastle beats Blackburn 1:0 to win the FA Cup. Newcastle joins Man Utd and Chelsea in the Euro Cup next year.

-- As the squad goes on vacation Dariusz Chrzanowski discusses with the media his desire to play somewhere else next year. Man, he played 32 matches for us this year, starting 12 times and is someone I could see starting for a year at MR if Gordon declines quickly... I really dont want to have to get rid of him!

-- We lose a youth coach who specialized in attacking to Arsenal. Right now I'm just addressing everything next season, we have a little cash and it sucks to give that up but we have no salary leeway to try to offer anyone contracts.

June Update

The World Cup takes place in June. Hopefully we'll have a couple players playing in this one!

-- The board is delighted with my leadership. The increase in stature is the highlight, the FA Cup Performance the only negative.

-- We made $28.52M last month mainly from prize money of course.

-- Conor Clifford announces that he's retiring at the end of the month.

Clifford had his best years with Panathinaikos in the greek superleague from 2014-2019. we picked him up on a free transfer in the 21/22 season and he played for us for 5 years. He was a quality backup for me every year until this one, playing 79 matches, scoring 2 goals and making 12 assists with an average rating around 6.75. For his entire career he played 407 league matches, scoring 62 goals and making 67 assists.

World Cup Callups

Italy: Yuri Di Giuseppe & Carlos Aldrovandi

England: Michele Capitani

Australia: Brett Connolly

Austria: Otmar Mattle

Brazil: Jean & Sergio Roberto

Neil Gordon being hurt in our finale knocks out any chance he had of playing in a world cup, sad

I don't think I ever mentioned the World Cup Draw:

A: Scotland, Argentina, South Korea, Algeria
B: Brazil, Ghana, Ukraine, China
C: Mexico, Colombia, Tunisia, Bulgaria
D: USA, Belgium, Italy, Egypt
E: Honduras, Ecuador, Austria, France
F: Saudi Arabia, Peru, Turkey, England
G: Iran, Serbia, Greece, Uruguay
H: Australia, Israel, Ivory Coast, Holland

World Cup Performances

Just noting my players here, we'll recap the whole thing once group play is done.

-- Brazil 1:0 China - Sergio Roberto 6.8

-- Italy 3:0 USA - Di Giuseppe 7.9, 1 goal. Carlos Aldrovandi 7.4

-- Aldrovandi is hurt and will miss 2 weeks.

-- Austria 2 : 1 Ecuador - Mattle 7.3 rating

-- Holland 2 : 0 Australia - Connolly 6.9 rating

-- Ghana 0 : 0 Brazil - Sergio Roberto 6.7 off the bench

-- Egypt 2 : 2 Italy - Yuri Di Giuseppe 6.8

-- France 1 : 3 Austria - Mattle 7.2 rating!

-- Australia 2 : 1 Israel - Connolly 7.7 rating and an assist!

-- Ukraine 1 : 0 Brazil - Sergio Roberto 6.6 rating

-- Sergio Roberto is hurt and will miss a week.

-- Belgium 2 : 1 Italy - Di Giuseppe 7.5 rating and the only goal for Italy

-- Austria 2 : 1 Honduras - Mattle 6.9 rating

-- My assistant coach Tony Coton is going to retire at the end of next year (May 2027).

European Club Rankings

1. Inter - 155.352 (+1)
2. Arsenal - 151.514 (-1)
2. Man City - 151.514 (unranked)
4. OM - 147.536 (+1)
5. Barcelona - 143.263 (-2)
6. At. Madrid - 139.263 (+1)
7. Man Utd - 136.513 (-3)
8. Juventus - 135.352 (unchanged)
9. Roma - 130.352 (unranked)
10. Olympique Lyonnais - 129.536 (unchanged)

Chelsea and HSV fall out of the top 10. Chelsea is 12th. Man City knocked a bad year out and has a Champions League win and semifinal showing to bump them from out of the top 10 to 3rd.

Ipswich were 32nd last year, but we still have seasons with no European play to knock out of the ratings... we move up to 21st in Europe !!!

21. Ipswich - 102.516

If we can make a knockout round next year we will likely move into the top 15 in Europe!

England ranking order:

1. Man City
2. Arsenal
3. Man U
4. Chelsea
5. Ipswich
6. Tottenham
7. Aston Villa
8. Huddersfield
9. Newcastle
10. Sheffield Utd
11. Liverpool
12. Everton
13. Reading

Those are all the teams that have more than the default number of points indicating some form of play in Europe in the last 5 seasons.

-- We get a new shirt sponsorship, this one is worth $7.75M per year, that's a great improvement over the last one which was $4.8M/yr.

-- For the second time our chairman randomly gives us money for no reason. $6.5M to help with the club's running costs.

We're up to the point of the "start of the new season" updates. The World Cup Group Stage will end in a day or two. Italy, Brazil, and Austria will all advance allowing some of my players some more action on the world stage. Australia is in a crazy 4 way tie of teams 1-0-1 but they have the worst goal differential, so they are still up in the air.

-- Constantino is named the fans player of the year. This is the 5th time he's been the pick of the fans.

Ipswich Best Eleven

GK: Bogdanovs
D: Kirkland/Bartlett/Mattle/Jackson
M: Crespo/Jean/Smith/Chrzanowski
F: Di Giuseppe/Constantino

Chrzanowski over Gordon is criminal. Smith over Mills is an eye opener. Bartlett over Aldrovandi makes sense based on the ratings but Aldrovandi is better.

Ipswich All Time Best Eleven

GK: Michele Capitani (203 apps/6.99 rating)
DL: Stuart Kirkland (382apps/7.17 rating)
DC: Otmar Mattle (187 apps/6.96 rating)
DC: Carlos Aldrovandi (158 apps/6.99)
DR: David Wright (166 apps/2 goals/7.11 rating)
ML: Mario Licka (115 apps/8 goals/7.23 rating)
MC: Gordon Donnelly (342 apps/38 goals/7.03 rating)
MC: Steven Mills (262 apps/19 goals/7.10 rating)
MR: Neil Gordon (349 apps/83 goals/7.02 rating)
ST: Constantino (368 apps/263 goals/7.49 rating)
ST: Matthew Khan (289 apps/143 goals/7.10 rating)

Clive Jackson is still listed as a backup at DR. Chris Bryan is now for the first time also mentioned as a backup.

Note that Carlos Aldrovandi leapfrogged the backup idea altogether, he takes over for Troy Brown as a starter on the all time team next to Mattle.

Eight of the 11 are current Ipswich players, technically.. Khan is gone in a week

-- We receive the standard $48,510,000 for TV Rights

-- The EPL Schedule is announced and we open against Sunderland who just came back up from the Championship. Next up would be Man City also at home. So much of this will be rescheduled its hardly worth looking at. I do notice that 3 of our last 4 are at home this year.

Season Expectations

-- The minimum expectation is that the team qualify for the Champions League. We'll be given $59 Million to spend in the transfer market and a $1.6M payroll to accomplish these goals. We're currently spending $1.48M/wk. I confirm these expectations and hope to make a more immediate impact than the Sergio Roberto signing last year.

-- I'll look at the new youth guys tomorrow, done for now!

Thanks all! And I agree Barkeep, that's what I'm hoping as well. At this point a ton of it depends on Di Giuseppe and how many $60 million offers we get for him and whether he decides he would rather be at a bigger club. Hopefully another year or two in Europe and I can keep Ipswich up in (or near) the top 10 in Europe. I'm not sure what other factors are involved in stature but I can at least try to control that one and getting facilities upgraded as much as possible, etc.

Does anyone have any advice on reliable ways to improve my coaching staff? All of my 1st team training and almost all of my youth training areas (attacking/defending/shooting etc) are 4* or 4 1/2* right now. It seems like it'd be worth the effort to try to find even better, but right now I am going about that fairly randomly. I know what attributes to focus on but when I hire a guy I can't begin to guess if he is gonna be 3 1/2*, 4*, 5*, or what. I've never seen a 5*, and I'm not sure if my training and/or youth facilities need to be "world class" before I will or if they are separate values...

I feel like anyone I bring in at age 16 is going to lose out on half of his potential by the time he's 18 or 19 and I'm not sure if I can do anything more about that or not.

EDIT: right now I just find coaches that seem like they're rated better than what I've got currently and bring them in and if they're not any better, then I just wait a year and try again. That isn't very efficient. Methods to improve upon that is basically what I'm angling for.

-- Ivory Coast 6 : 2 Australia - Bretty Connolly 6.1 rating and two yellow cards, sent off in the 61st minute. Ouch! That is the end of Australia in this world cup.

Youth Intake

Last year we cut everyone on the spot. Lets see if we did any better this year.

DRC/DMC/MRC Graham Black - Black joins the squad valued at $7.5 Million! Natural DC, Accomplished at all other positions listed.

Physical: Pace 12/Accel 12/Natural Fitness 15/Jumping 11/Str 11
Mental: Determination 13/Positioning 14/Off the Ball 12, lots of 7-9 ratings
Technical: Tackling 14/Heading 11/Marking 9/Technique 11

He's rated as a guy that could play in League 2 at age 15. Every single coach of mine gives him 3 1/2* potential.

AMR Dimitris Angelopoulos He's rated as a kid that won't ever be good enough so maybe he has a really low ceiling... but screw that I'm not cutting this kid. 18 determination, 16 pace/14 accel/16 agi/16 balance. Fast, extremely determined, he's a guy I want to see develop for a year and I don't have any U18's at MR anyway.

ST Ernie Marney - 2* potential, valued at $500,000. 12 pace/14 acel/14 jumping. 12 heading/11 dribbling/10 finishing, so the basics are there to build off of. Determination is only 10, he has a "temperamental" personality which is something I'm not sure I've ever dealt with before. It seems like our best bet is to try to mentor him with a very determined forward and see if he takes to it. If he does, there is some potential here.

Players Promoted

ST Frank Battersby, DC John Ashworth and ML Eneko Etxabe are promoted up from the youth team.

ST Battersby is an easy decision, he stays with the senior team and I go out of my way to get him 10-15 matches. Battersby has been *very* successful for me against lower level teams in cup matches over the last two years. He is listed with 2 1/2* potential.

DC Ashworth came in as a highly touted prospect and has dropped a little, also a 2 1/2* prospect right now. Great physical talents but even after mentoring his determination is only up to 11 which I think is going to be a severely limiting factor.

ML Etxabe seems a bit of a bust but a couple of my scouts like him more than my other young ML David Ros. I mainly just paid too much for the kid.

Ashworth and Battersby I absolutely want to keep here. Extabe I'm a bit more indifferent towards.

EPL Title Odds

Last year Man City were the favorites but Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal were all 10:1 or better as well.

This year its deemed a two team race:

Man City 2:1
Arsenal 6:1

Hey hey, look who is 3rd... Ipswich 20:1 along with Chelsea also 20:1. Man U 25:1, Huddersfield 33:1.

World Cup Group Stage Complete

Group A

Algeria 2-1-0 7 pts
South Korea 2-1-0 7 pts
Argentina 1-0-2 3 pts
Scotland 0-0-3 0 pts

Group D

Italy 1-1-1 4 pts
Egypt 1-1-1 4 pts
USA 1-0-2 3 pts

Poor USA. They crushed Egypt 4:0 but lost 3:0 to both Belgium and Italy.

Group E

Austria 3-0-0 9 pts
Ecuador 1-1-1 4 pts
France 0-2-1 2 pts
Honduras 0-1-2 1 pt

Australia 1-0-2 3 pts

That sets up the following single elimination bracket:

Brazil vs Algeria
Belgium vs Mexico

Ecuador vs Peru
Holland vs Serbia

South Korea vs Ukraine
Tunisia vs Italy

Austria vs England
Ivory Coast vs Greece

some world powers still around, but lots of big names completely missing here!

-- We are expecting to sell 28,600 season tickets this year. If we reach that number it would be ~3000 more than last year, a very significant increase

World Cup Round of 16

Algeria 2:1 Brazil
Mexico 3:2 Belgium

Ecuador 1:0 Peru
Holland 3:1 Serbia

Ukraine 1:0 South Korea
Italy 4:1 Tunisia - Di Giuseppe 7.4 rating with 1 assist.

England 1:0 Austria - Mattle 7.1 rating, the best for Austria
Ivory Coast 4:2 Greece

Transfer Bid

OM bid $76,387,000 for Yuri Di Giuseppe. So here's the thing. I am not confident given unlimited resources that I could definitely secure a better striker. Better strikers already play for better teams and aren't interested in coming here. there is no dollar amount that I would accept. So yes, I am without hesitation clicking "reject" on a 76 million dollar offer.

New Contract

I'm offered a new contract that will pay me $94,000/wk for 4 years. Sure thing, boss.

Richest Clubs List

Last year we were #28 on the list, two years ago #36. This year we've actually fallen quite a bit, I would assume due to our spending on players and the fact that we've barely broken even the last two years.

-- Real Madrid and Barcelona top the list worth over $700 Million each. Inter is 3rd at $678M. FC Bayern is the only other club over $600M at $675 Million. Ajax and OM appear in 5th and 6th before the first english club.

The above is what I wrote last year with the numbers changed. Maybe its a recession! Real Madrid and Barca were both over 800M last year and Inter over 700M.

The list for England:

7. Arsenal - 481M
10. Man U - 408M
13. Man City - 328M
15. Chelsea - 312M
23. Tottenham - 223M
27. Newcastle - 187M
34. Liverpool - 149M
37. Sunderland - 137M
42. Ipswich - 135M

We are way down on that list from last year, damn. Sunderland, wtf!

Aside from the main coaching attribute, the other 3 key stats are determination, discipline and motivation, if I'm remembering right.

Thanks, I don't want to use something like that when looking at a specific guy and making an actual decision in game but I did play around with it some just to get a feel for what kind of numbers do what and I think it'll help me out. I had read somewhere that working with youngsters is important for all youth coaches and man management for all 1st team coaches and that calculator seems to imply that isn't the case at all? Trying to extend out to those extra ratings may be where I've had my problem finding new upgrades.

-- so its july 1st. We don't play until August 15th and thanks to our improved standing in Europe we don't have to play until the group stage of the Champions League this year. I set up friendlies to get us into shape going into league play.

-- We're a really good team. It is damn hard to figure out what to spend money on right now. I have a couple guys I want to go really really hard after but that I assume will be as difficult for me to pry away as Di Giuseppe would be to let go.

Ipswich Lets go All Time Great

Matthew Khan was purchased by my predecessor at Ipswich and was the best Striker on the team when I took over. Constantino made a huge splash once I purchased him but for a number of years Khan/Constantino was my dominant combination up front. The emergence of Chris Bryan and Eoin Darcy coming around, the fact that we don't always have to try to outscore everyone 4-3 and run 1 striker formations really effectively at times, and eventually the signing of Yuri Di Giuseppe lessened Khan's role but up until last year he was still an important contributor. His ratings started to fall really fast once he hit 30 though. He isn't quite strong enough to keep around just as a mentor and we hope he latches on somewhere and has a good end to his career.

-- The board is pleased with my leadership. Our increase in stature is the highlight and the depature of Matthew Khan is the negative, he was a fan favorite but not really mentioned as a favorite amongst any players anymore (like 85% of the team have the highest regard Di Giuseppe, the rest feel connected to Ballester or Constantino)

-- We made $15.19M last month in profits. We always do well early unless we blow tons of cash on a new player.

-- As I look primarily at three main targets, none of whom I can be sure i have a shot in hell of landing, Roma bids $15M for Ballester. I know I won't let him go for that, but do I negotiate or reject? I sit on it for now. He's rated so so highly and other players of his stature would not play for me for under $100k/wk... but on the pitch Aldrovandi/Mattle and even Bartlett seem to do just as well.

-- Uhhhh wow. Is it this easy? I make an offer for an Everton defender (I really seem to have a thing for Everton players, ST Brian Kelly, this defender that I've had an eye on for a couple years, they have a couple midfielders I've looked at too)... anyway, I offer $28M, they counter $67, I counter with the entirety of my transfer budget, they accept, he's willing to come here for $120,000/wk, and after just a couple days we're waiting on him to accept my contract. This is where I just go into a frenzy of clicking continue until he's mine or something bad happens.......

Pre-Season Report

This is basically the same as last year. We tend on the young side of the EPL but we aren't the youngest. We are aggressive, determined, good dribbling, have great first touch, speed, fitness, strength and technique. The only negatives are height and flair. We are in fact by whatever measure our coaches present this information, the best dribbling team in the EPL. We are a damn good team, that's all there is to it.

-- News reports come out that Cagliari have interest in both Brett Connolly and Sergio Roberto, and Roma's interest in Ballester is made public. I'm noodling over whether to sell Ballester if I land the defender of my dreams in the next couple days.

Injury Update

Chris Bryan is out 2-3 weeks.

Its July 8th and we just spent $59 Million on one player. Drumroll...

New Player Signing

Honestly I wish I had pimped this name going back to like last February in game b/c I'd look like a damn genius for getting this done this easily now. I wanted to make a run for this kid last year but when I didn't make the Champions League I wasn't given the transfer budget to do so. I can name probably 15 strikers and another 5 or 6 midfielders in the EPL who are superstars, who give me problems, who come up in media reports all the time... but there is only one defender in the world who doesn't play for Ipswich who I can single out at the same level as a Hans Nooij of Arsenal or David Thomas of Chelsea or Stuart Wray of Man Utd.

21 y/o Everton DC Kieren Connor was valued at $28 Million when I looked at him on July 1st. I pimped him in the media and told the media I wanted him on my team. I made an enquiry with Everton which they ignored. Next I offered Everton $28 Million, expecting them to reject the offer and i would slowly work my way up to $55+M over the next couple weeks. Instead they countered almost instantly asking for $67 Million. My budget is $59 Million. I can sell Ballester which would allow me to pay $67M but what if he asks for $200k/wk and I can't sign him? So instead I offer $59M. If they say no, I sell Ballester instantly and offer the $70M i'd have available afterwards and cross my fingers. Instead, Everton accept the $59 Million offer. Connor asks for $120,000/wk, that's well within my budget and I just give him what he wants, a $4.5M signing bonus, $120,000/wk and $12k/appearance. He accepts, and I feel like the 20:1 odds we had been given to win the EPL should be down to 12:1 or better in an instant.

From his Personal page:

Description - World Class Centre-Back
Personality - Determined
Reputation - Worldwide

Connor has 5 years of experience in the EPL. Everton brought him up to the senior team at age 16 and put him in 22 matches right away. At age 16 he averaged a 6.59 rating. Last year he averaged a 7.0 for a mid-table Everton team that underperformed.

Connor has been Young Player of the Month in England 8 times so far in his career. He was 3rd in Young Player of the Year voting last year.... behind Yuri Di Giuseppe and Craig Smith. Going back 10 years only two other defenders have finished in the top 3 for that award, the starting DL and DR for England now.

Speaking of England, Connor is 21 years old and has 30 caps for the English senior squad.

Ok... now that I have hyped my new signing to this level... what could possibly go wrong?

-- DC Otmar Mattle expresses his concern over my new signing and the impact it will have on his playing time. I feel like if I keep him and just play him that concern will go away. But I do have a decision to make about what to do with my defense. Do i sell high on Ballester who is 30? DC's can last longer and he is by far my 2nd best rated defender, though as I've mentioned before Mattle and Aldrovandi play as well as he does it seems.

Friendly #1

We host Scottish side Motherwell in our opener. First half goals from Di Giuseppe, Constantino and Crespo and a second half goal from Mattle make this one easy. Connor a 7.1 playing the first half alongside Aldrovandi.

Ipswich 4 : 0 Motherwell

-- DC/MC Neil Bartlett is going to miss 2-3 weeks with an injury he picked up today.

-- The offer for Ballester comes due and I just reject it. We're just so damn good I want to keep these guys and see them happy and win everything with them.

-- I do transfer list 3 reserves that I just don't see being able to make room for whose potential has dropped noticeably. AML Eneko Etxabe and MC Jose Antonio Ramirez are valued near $1.5M and ST Rob Kershaw still rots away in my reserves valued at $3.4M. I get offers for all three and accept them.

World Cup Dream Team

What's this? I dunno I'd never seen it before either... its the Best Eleven/All Star team from the just completed World Cup. Why am I seeing this now? Because England starting DC Kieren Connor played 5 matches for England with a 7.10 rating and 1 goal and that was good enough to land him a starting spot on this all star squad.

World Cup Quarterfinals

Mexico 2 : 1 Algeria
Ukraine 3 : 0 Italy
Ivory Coast 1 : 0 England
Holland 3 : 0 Ecuador

World Cup Semifinals

Holland 2 : 0 Mexico
Ivory Coast 1 : 0 Ukraine

-- Ukraine 2 : 1 Mexico in the 3rd place match.

World Cup Final

Ivory Coast 1 : 0 Holland

Yuri Di Giuseppe scored 2 goals for Italy in this world cup. The other standout Ipswich player was DC Otmar Mattle who was one of the strongest players for an Austrian side that made it into the knockout stages.

-- Sergio Roberto has told his head coach (me!) that he now feels at home in Ipswich. He's learned basic English and it took a year but its worth a news story for him to let me know that this year will be better. I'm thrilled to see this, we did spend $20M+ on him last year!

Transfer Out

ST Rob Kershaw agrees to a deal with Birmingham, promoted back up to the EPL this year, so I may have to play against him, but that's ok. We make $3.4 Million on the deal.

ML Eneko Etxabe is going to AC Milan and we make $1.5M on that deal. We do have to give $180k of it to Athletic in Spain due to a % of profit deal we had in place.

MC Jose Antonio Ramirez signs with Evian TG in France's Ligue 1. We make $1.5M on the deal. Ramirez was a really poor signing for us, we paid $3.5M for him as a youth and he scouted really poorly as soon as he came in and didn't develop nearly enough. We were getting a little loose with the wallet on that one.

-- As we now sit in the red in cash on hand and right at our wage budget we don't really get much of that money at all to reinvest in players. In fact right now we're better off not selling anyone else if we don't absolutely have to. Those players were not going to get 1st team time and were behind other young players on the depth chart so getting their salaries off the books helped, paying Connor put us just slightly over our wage budget. But if we did something like sell Ballester for $15M we would get less than $2M of that to spend, so we just won't be doing that.

Friendly #2

We travel to Argentina to play Racing Club (I actually thought this was a European club but we're making some money off it anyway).

They get on the board first with a great strike from 20 yards out. we tie it up on a cross from Constantino to Di Giuseppe. Neither team scores in the second half. we ended up with 6 clear cut chances on about 20 shots while they had 6 shots total...

Racing Club 1 : 1 Ipswich

-- I'm offered the head coaching jobs at Ghana, Turkey and Uruguay. I reject all three, though it does make me go look to see if the US Job opened up after the world cup, it did not.

That's it for now, may not be able to pick things up til Friday or Saturday but I can't wait to get rolling on the new season.

30 caps as Central Defender for a guy who is 21 years old. That's mega star status. Brilliant signing.

Happy to see Sergio Roberto settling. He did the same thing that Jean did. If performances follow Jean's progresssion, you should be good !

I am hoping that's where we're headed with Sergio Roberto, but there is one major difference. While Jean is good enough to be an every day Central Mid in a 4-4-2, Sergio Roberto does pretty heavily favor the DMC role. At MC Jean/Mills/Smith and maybe Connolly are all preferred. But whenever I run my 4-1-4-1 Sergio Roberto is the only guy I want playing DMC. I feel like I use that formation often enough that the guy has tons of potential for me, but my expectations of him are lower just because of our playstyle and where he fits into it.

Its weird, I don't have anywhere close the budget of a Man City or whatever, but it still feels like the money isn't real (even 'real' within the context of a fake sports game budget that is!). My starting lineup is so good that I am finding it immensely difficult to find new players to crack that best eleven, or even in many cases to find a second best option. If I didn't sign Connor I don't have any idea what I would have done with the money. I could have maybe signed two players in the $25 Million range but I don't expect to find starters for that price anymore. I could have spent $20 million and totally loaded up my U18's in the hopes that I would pull one quality player and maybe make my money back selling the rest later after some development.

I think I mention this every year lately, we're like a half tier down from Arsenal and teams of that stature. I could have paid Connor up to $160,000/wk. That's great, but Arsenal pays their best players over $300,000/wk. I'm still a step down from that, and if Arsenal and Ipswich go after the same player I still have nearly 0 chance of signing the player. So signing new guys has been a really weird adventure the past few seasons. This year its a clear home run. A guy like Sergio Roberto last year was basically a shot in the dark with $20M+, but even if he doesn't work out, I still think it was the best shot I had with the money I had available at the time. I'm still getting used to the fact that I am taking $20 million shots in the dark and that's kinda ok.

-- DR Anthony Heywood has decided he doesn't like DL Stuart Kirkland... No idea where this came from, they aren't involved in any tutoring, just a random clash. And not a good one for Heywood. There will be no way to avoid putting the two on the field numerous times but as long as this is going on I will end up tending towards Clive Jackson when both are available. Kirkland is, after all, the team captain and a well liked captain at that.

-- Chris Bryan resumes full training.

-- Leverkusen make an offer for chranowski. I reject it, I think I may just have to deal with him being unhappy this year.

Friendly #3

We travel to Brighton. We get 2 goals from Di Giuseppe and goals from Crespo and Gordon in the first half. They score once and its 4:1. They score in the second half to make it 4:2, then Darcy gets two goals. Then they get another and our backup GK Lines has a pretty poor match in the second half.

Brighton 3 : 6 Ipswich

Injury Update

-- Anthony Heywood was injured today and is out about 10 days.

-- We have 8 EPL matches in the first half of the season slated for TV Coverage. Man City, Arsenal, Tottenham, Liverpool, Man U, Newcastle, Chelsea, and Aston Villa.

-- Anthony Heywood after less than a week decides he doesn't hate Kirkland anymore. So much for that concern, whew.

Contract Updates

We have 12 players with expiring contracts this year.

MC Jean - 26 y/o, makes $68k/wk, will take the same with a huge appearance fee, that's fine.

GK Dmitrijs Bogdanovs - makes $64k/wk, wants a raise to $81k/wk, that too is fine.

ST Constantino - makes $54k/wk, we give him a bonus to tack on an extra year at the same rate. He'll turn 32 this year, who knows how long he has left.

GK Michele Capitani - Won't be re-signed.

DC/MC Neil Bartlett - Makes $44.5k/wk, will take the same for 2 additional years. I don't think he's going to get too much use this year unless we have injuries, but with Mattle/Ballester/Mills all potentially asking to leave and wanting new challenges, I want to keep a guy like Bartlett who is a strong utility guy.

MC Steven Mills - Wants a big appearance fee but will take a nice pay cut from $110k/wk to $86k/wk. He only asks for a 1 year extension but I make it 2. He may get upset and want out but I'm happy to hang on to him as long as I can especially at a lower rate.

DC Jose Antonio Ballester - Makes $91k/wk and wants the same with a bonus. He asks for one more year and I try to offer him 2.

MR Dariusz Chrzanowski - He currently is pissed at me and not willing to re-sign.

ML Adagsmar - He's starting to fade, his ratings are starting to drop, Crespo has taken over as more of a dominant first teamer. Adagsmar will turn 32 years old, and if we're going to keep ML David Ros around he'll take over the backup role, we'll be letting Adagsmar go.

DR Anthony Heywood - Rotates fairly equally with Clive Jackson and is only 24 y/o. He's willing to keep his current rate of $49.5k/wk with a bonus and nice appearance fee. Sounds good to me, he wants 2 additional years and I try to make it 3.

MC Brett Connolly - Connolly has become a really solid player. He only makes $18k/wk now and clearly deserves more. 3 additional years at $36k/wk is still a bargain.

DC Otmar Mattle - Makes $53k/wk and although he's worried about losing playing time to Connor he's willing to stick around at the same rate.

-- I am asked to decide our bonus rates. This year I try to give a little incentive to play well in the EPL by offering a higher bonus for success in league play.

We travel to Shrewsbury. Crespo gets a 2nd minute goal to get us going. Di Giuseppe and Darcy score as well, they get one back late.

Shrewsbury 1 : 3 Ipswich

-- Chrzanowski is going to miss about a week with an injury he picked up today.

August Update

-- We have our last friendly on the 8th. After that we play on the 15th, 18th, 23rd, and 29th.

-- The board is pleased with my leadership. Our increase in stature is the positive, Matthew Khan leaving is the negative.

-- We lost $47.5M last month of course entirely due to buying Connor.

Off to watch Ga Tech/Va Tech, almost to the start of the regular season!

How are you playing out your matches? I prefer to watch the entire match so I can tweak as I see fit, but this takes quite sometime obviously. I'm curious how you are running this.

At this point almost entirely key highlights. Mainly a function of wanting to see as much as I can of each match but still get through as many seasons as I can. A number of my early seasons were entirely on extended highlights. If I take a 3-0 lead or a 2-0 lead vs real bad teams I'll go to commentary only. Key highlights still show a number of non scoring plays to get a general feel for how things are going, but I do rely more on my coaches and the stat sheet to make changes during a match than if I was watching the whole thing of course.

Keep up the good stuff, Radii.

FYI, reading this dynasty actually got me to play FM10 a couple of times the past week or so. And by playing I mean the typical 3-to-4-hour sessions of 'just one more game'.

Friendly #5

We host KF Tirana, the small Albanian side we crushed twice in the Euro Cup last year. This is our last friendly. Di Giuseppe gets us a 3rd minute goal. Ballester scores off a corner, Constantino gets one and its 3-0 at the half. No second half scoring, looks like Darcy had a couple clear cut chances.

Ipswich 3 : 0 KF Tirana

-- Craig Smith was hurt in this one and will miss 4-5 days.

Ipswich Captains

-- Last year it was Kirkland and Jean... after Darcy was a big part in rallying the troops to win key matches last year I decide its time to get him going in this realm... Kirkland remains captain but Darcy is now vice-captain.

-- Roma is interested in Brett connolly, Real Madrid in Ballester, and At. Madrid makes an offer in for Steven Mills, I reject all of these things.

-- Stoke and Norwich in the Championship make a loan offer for DC Olvera for 5 months. With Connor coming in it'll be even less likely to get Olvera playing time. Both say he'll be a key first teamer, so I accept and send him off to get the experience in the Championship with whichever team he chooses.

opening day coming up!

Sunderland @ Ipswich

Sunderland won the Championship last year to rise right back up to the EPL after an 18th place finish in the EPL two years ago. We're even money favorites to start our season with a win at home.

GK: Bogdanovs
D: Kirkland/Aldrovandi/Connor/Jackson
M: Crespo/Jean/Mills/Gordon
F: Di Giuseppe/Constantino

We'll attack in our opener.

4': They attack, there's a cross, headed away by a defender. Jean recovers it and sends it down the left side, Di Giuseppe recovers it, scoots by a tackle and is off to the races from near midfield, he gets into the area, shoots to the far post and its by the keeper and into the net! 1-0

25': They have a goal kick, its kicked long and ST Pique is somehow a few yards behind Aldrovandi... he controls the ball as it comes down and scores easily... disgusting defense. 1-1

39': they get a shot in the area after a throwin in our defensive end, but its saved easily. Bogdanovs throws it long, passed to Crespo, he makes a run down the left side, plays a cross into the area, Di Giuseppe gets his head to it and its in!! 2-1

HALF: Possession is 50/50, we shoot 6 times, putting 4 on target with one clear cut chance. They have 4 shots, 3 on target with 1 clear cut chance. Other stats are very much even, Di Giuseppe's skill is the difference, his header was very difficult.

53': Clive Jackson is hurt, he can stay in but his fitness is totally shot.

59': They have a long shot come extraordinarily close to going in.

61': Di Giuseppe receives a pass and beats two men to get into the area, but there's another back there and its tackled away. We recover though, and Jean passes into the area for Constantino, Constantino is on top of the keeper, seems to kick the ball off the keepers legs, right back to him and he puts it into the net. I'm not sure if that will end up unassisted or not. 3-1

71': Another random long shot by MC Emery and its shot perfectly, bending into the right side of the net. 3-2

71': we'll drop to a counterattacking mindset to hold this lead.

71': Heywood in for Jackson, Connolly in for Mills.

88': Hughes in for Crespo.

We hang on to win this one in a much more exciting game than we would have liked, but its 3 points!

Ipswich 3 : 2 Sunderland

Man of the Match: Yuri Di Giuseppe (9.0)
Goals: Di Giuseppe 2, Constantino (7.3)
Assists: Jean 2 (7.4), Crespo (8.1)
Notables: Aldrovandi (7.0), Gordon (7.0), Mills (7.0)

Connor a 6.8 in his first match, didn't complete a lot of passes (clearances presumably) but won 7 of 10 headers and 8 of 8 tackles.

-- No long term injury for Jackson.

-- We lose a youth coach to Chelsea and need a new coach to cover tactics for the youth team. This ends up being a good thing as I find a 4 1/2* tactics trainer and bring him in.

-- Final season ticket sales are 28,074. That's 2600 more than last year, the fans are all over this Ipswich team!

August 18th, 2026

Man City @ Ipswich

We're opening with two straight home matches and are 6:4 favorites today. Man City are the favorites to win the EPL this year. We are 7-7-11 lifetime against them, but we are actually 3-1-0 the last 4 meetings.

GK: Bogdanovs
D: Kirkland/Ballester/Connor/Jackson
M: Crespo/Sergio Roberto/Connolly/Chrzanowski
F: Di Giuseppe/Darcy

Jean and Mills and Gordon and Constantino rest here. Standard mindset today.

11': We have a throwin in their end, they tackle it away and try to play a ball up to midfield... Connor wins a header at midfield and heads it 20 yards forward. Sergio Roberto wins a header and heads it into the area, where Darcy has gotten free, he picks it up near the 6 yard box and places a nice shot by the keeper! 1-0

13': Darcy receives a pass near midfield, he draws 3 defenders and dribbles by one, pokes it out wide right to Chrzanowski, he makes a run down the right, plays a low cross into the area where Connolly is streaking through the area, he gets to the pass and scores!! 2-0

16': Bogdanovs with a long kick after scooping up a through ball. Di Giuseppe somehow gets to it first, a defender misjudges it and it bounces high over his head into the area, Di Giuseppe runs under it, volleys it as it comes down and scores!! 3-0

20': Up 3 already lets fall back to a counterattacking mode.

26': They control it on offense and have a nice low ball through the 6 yard box, Kirkland makes a clutch interception in a crowd of attackers.

33': Di Giuseppe has it near midfield, he makes a long run down the right, gets a cross into the area, Darcy heads it, but right at the keeper. They are first to the rebound.

HALF: We're playing so well here! We have 53% of the possession, 6 shots to their 5, but we have 4 on target with 3 clear cut chances generated. They haven't put a shot on target and 3 of theirs are from long range. we are winning 65% of our headers and its totally clear in the highlights. Darcy and Di Giuseppe are our strongest attackers in the air and its making a huge difference. Smith comes in for Di Giuseppe at the half, Darcy up front by himself, Sergio Roberto DMC, 4-1-4-1.

68': Connolly is hurt.

75': Mills in for Connolly, Hughes in for Crespo.

86': Darcy is hurt.

Great win!

Ipswich 3 : 0 Man City

Man of the Match: Dariusz Chrzanowski (8.0)
Goals: Connolly (7.7), Darcy (7.5), Di Giuseppe (7.2)
Assists: Chrzanowski, Bogdanovs (7.6), Sergio Roberto (6.9)
Notables: Jackson (7.4), Kirkland (7.8), Connor (7.3), Crespo (7.0)

Injury Update

Brett Connolly will miss ~10 days with a damaged elbow

Eoin Darcy is going to miss 3 weeks with a pulled hamstring.

Other than the injuries a perfect day against a really strong squad to start 2-0-0!

Ipswich @ Arsenal

Our first road match is a huge one against the defending EPL Champs. We beat them at their place last year playing really aggressively, but I feel like its better early on to play it safe and defend it out. They're even money favorites today.

GK: Bogdanovs
D: Kirkland/Mattle/Connor/Jackson
DM: Sergio Roberto
M: Crespo/Jean/Mills/Gordon
F: Di Giuseppe

4-1-4-1 with Di Giuseppe up front today.

10': We have a throwin in their end, the ball goes to the middle of the pitch 25-35 yards out and after a number of passes Jean gets it to Di Giuseppe. He has two defenders on him but gets into the area anyway, lays it off for Crespo who has a clear cut chance, but its right to the keeper.

15': They have a corner, Mattle heads it out and Di Giuseppe goes and gets the ball, he dribbles down the left, right by one defender, down to the left corner, but a cross is blocked. We have a corner but they clear that out.

19': We've had a lot of the ball on offense early on, it feels like to this point we're quite in control.

34': their midfeidler Thiam a yellow.

41': They have a corner, taken to the far post, Bogdanovs comes out for it but doesn't get it, a header is off the crossbar and back in play, midfielder Welz is first to the ball and pokes it into the net. 0-1

HALF: We had a lot of control in the first 20 minutes, then we go a solid 20 minutes without really seeing much at all, and they get a goal off a corner kick. I bring Constantino in for Sergio Roberto and we'll run our 4-4-2. We have 3 shots, 2 on target. They have 6 shots, 2 on target.

46': Mills a yellow.

50': star midfielder Gamliel with a strong bending shot from 25 yards out, Bogdanovs dives to stop it, great save by him.

63': "Trademark finish from Di Giuseppe, he shows you don't have to blast the ball" ... Gordon ahead to Constantino, a run down the right, Di Giuseppe open in the area, Constantino gets it to him, its not a great pass, they get to close down pretty hard, but Di Giuseppe with a perfect precision shot from about 17 yards out into the right side of the net! 1-1

71': Connor and Gordon yellows in close order.

73': They should have scored here, they take a corner, a header hits the bottom of the crossbar and stays in play, we try to clear it off the line but it stays in the 6 yard box, they get a man there but we finally clear, so close. The clearance is long to Constantino, he turns and immediately passes ahead, Di Giuseppe breaks on the ball and is behind the defense, he picks it up, gets to the edge of the box, the keeper has come out to challenge, but Di Giuseppe again plays a perfectly precise shot by the keeper and into the left side of the net!!! 2-1

81': Smith in for Di Giuseppe. Back to a 4-1-4-1 and a defensive mindset to close out.

We do a wonderful job in the final 10 minutes, spending a lot of time in their end attacking. Spectacular win!!

Arsenal 1 : 2 Ipswich

Man of the Match: Constantino (8.8)
Goals: Di Giuseppe 2 (8.8)
Assists: Constantino 2
Notables: Kirkland (7.1), Gordon (7.1)

The rest of the team in the 6.8-6.9 range, Constantino and Di Giuseppe with just some beautiful plays to get our two goals.

With 8 goals and 3 allowed and a 3-0-0 we are out in first place early, wins over Man City and Arsenal early, August couldn't be better for Ipswich!

-- Arsenal bid for Ballester and Valenciennes add to the long list of teams biddng for Chrzanowski. We reject as always.

-- We receive ~$10.2M for playing in the Champions League group stage.

Champions League Group Stage Draw

1 seeds: Arsenal, Inter, OM, At. Madrid, Olympique Lyonnais, Real Madrid, Roma, Man City

2 seeds: HSV, Benfica, Dortmund, Feyenoord, Ajax, Porto, Betis, Ipswich

3 seeds: Celtic, FC Bayern, Standard, Huddersfield, Fenerbahce, Rubin, Spartak Moscow, Slavia Prague

4 seeds: Maribor, Paris Saint-Germain, Lazio, Austria Wien, AIK, Dinamo Buc. Aris, LOSC Lille Metropole

we are the last 2 seed on the list!

I like our draw!!!

Group H

1. Olympique Lyonnais
2. Ipswich
3. Slavia Prague (Czech)
4. Austrian Wien (Austria)

We should do well against most 3 and 4 seeds but we dodged Bayern, Celtic, Spartak Moscow as 3 seeds that seem more imposing, and most importantly Lazio in Italy as a 4 seed. None of the 1 seeds are ever going to be easy opposition, but we'd rather play one of the french sides than Roma, At. Madrid, Real Madrid or Inter! And of the two french sides we'd rather avoid OM.

Olympique Lyonnais - top 4 in France every single year of this dynasty. 9 French Ligue 1 titles, though they haven't won in 4 years. They've made the Champions League every year but one. They have only failed to advance out of the group stage one time. They've never won the CL but have been runners up 3 times. Last year they lost in the semifinals.

Slavia Prague - They've won the Czech First Division the last 4 years in a row and 9 times during this dynasty. This is their 10th apearance in the Champions League. They have never advanced past the group stage.

Austria Wien - This is their 4th Champoins League appearance. Its the first time they've made the group stage instead of losing out in a qualifying round. When they've fallen back to the Euro Cup they've never advanced out of the group stages.

It seems like the top two seeds should be really heavy favorites in most groups.

Group G with Man City, HSV, Rubin and Lazio could be interesting with an Italian side as a 4 seed.

Group C has Real Madrid, Benfica and Huddersfield, we'll see if Huddersfield can challenge one of the top teams in Portugal.

Group B has Arsenal, Feyenoord, Celtic and Paris Saint-German, the top two should be heavy favorites but Celtic is here every year and does make the Knockout Rounds every 3 years or so.

We open Champions League play on September 16th and we get the chance to get off to a strong start as our first two matches are against the 4 seed and 3 seed.

League Cup 3rd Round Draw

Great draw for us, we'll be at home against League 2 side Colchester on September 22nd.

August 28th, 2026

Ipswich @ Huddersfield

Huddersfield snuck into the Champions League near in the last game or two last year. They're 6:4 favorites at their place today and are a team that we struggle with. We are 10-9-10 lifetime but haven't won in our last 4 meetings (0-2-2) and are 1-5-2 in our last 8, the one win was on the road.

GK: Bogdanovs
D: Kirkland/Aldrovandi/Connor/Jackson
M: Crespo/Jean/Smith/Gordon
F: Di Giuseppe/Constantino

Chris Bryan isn't match fit, he missed a couple weeks in July and we didn't do enough to have him ready, that's the reason we haven't seen him yet. If we get a big lead somewhere I'll run him in.

Huddersfield is running a 5-3-2 with two wing backs out wide. Their star is ST Matteo Cavalieri. We counterattack today.

3': we have a long early highlight starting with a corner, but never actually generate a shot, they head it away when it counts, twice.

11': Smith with a pretty ball into the area for Crespo, he has a clear cut chance, but the keeper dives and turns it behind. Corner is cleared.

26': Smith to Constantino for a shot that goes just high, it was a bit of an awkward play, Smith could have taken it into the area himself for a better shot probably, instead of playing a very short pass to a well covered Constantino.

33': Corner for Huddersfield, taken to the far post, Bogdanovs comes out for it and misses, and their defender Federico heads it in. 0-1

HALF: We fly to the half after that. We'll have to do better in the second half. They shoot 4 times, we shoot 3. Each of us have 1 on target and 1 clear cut chance, but they found the goal and we didn't. We are not tackling well at all (52%) or doing well enough in the air (68% for them 49% for us).

70': Well if they're going to kill the clock this successfully we must attack.

79': Mills in for a tired Craig Smith.

Awful, that's it. We shoot twice in the second half, I see one highlight, Jean shooting way high.

Huddersfield 1 : 0 Ipswich

Jackson 7.0, Kirkland 7.1. Di Giuseppe a rare struggle, 6.3 for him. We just couldn't get it going, waited a bit too long to attack (though even after we did there was nothing there). Our first loss of the season.

-- A number of players are called up for international duty on Sept 5th and 9th. Some are for friendlies but European Championship Qualifying is about to begin as well. We have 5 players called up for England, Connor, Kirkland, Gordon, Capitani and Mills.

September Update

-- With an international break coming we don't play until the 12th, then 16th, 19th, 22nd, 26th, and 29th. 3 EPL matches, League Cup, and two Champions League matches.

-- ML David Ros is singled out for training well and he has improved in many areas recently.

-- With 5 goals in August Di Giuseppe is the young player of the month.

-- I'm 2nd in Manager of the Month voting. Tottenham went 3-0-0 on the month and their boss got the top spot.

-- The board is pleased with my leadership. Our increase in stature is the highlight, no negatives.

-- We made a profit of $5.95M last month, thanks entirely to the $10M+ we made for playing in the Champions League as groups were drawn.

-- The transfer window closes in England and we are safe for now, holding on to many players that were bid on with only Chrzanowski remaining/becoming unhappy about all of my rejections of transfer offers. Our signing of Kieren Connor was the biggest transfer, while Man City bought 20 y/o wonderkid ST Andrea Silveri from Barcelona for $45.5 Million. Di Giuseppe is better (I say with 100% objectivity! )

-- In a coaches meeting I'm informed that DC Aldrovandi has taken a hit to his pace recently. He just turned 31 but still looks like a top DC for us, we'll monitor his decline.

-- A match vs Newcastle is rearranged due to their play in the Euro Cup.

-- I lose my 4* shooting coach to Man Utd. Tons of coaches moving around here... BAM. I find an unemployed coach who is primarily used as an assistant but 20 attacking/20 technical and decent mental attributes is not hard to figure out. I have my first 5* coach training my players in shooting.

Injury Update

-- Darcy resumes full training.

-- Ballester is hurt in an international match against Switzerland. He'll only miss a week. That was a friendly against Switzerland, Ballester did score before getting hurt, his 2nd goal for Spain.

-- Mattle (Austria), Bogdanovs (Latvia), Gordon, Kirkland and Connor (England) all play in Euro Championship qualifiers. Neil Gordon plays in his 10th match for England, scoring his first international goal! He was man of the match in a 2:0 win over Macedonia. Kirkland and Connor played great as well.

European Champions Cup Odds

-- Inter are the favorites to win the Champions League at 2:1. Arsenal 3:1, Roma 6:1, Real Madrid 15:2, Man City and At. Madrid are both 8:1. We're not up near the top of the list but we get a good bit of respect with 11:1 odds to win the whole thing.

September 12th, 2026

Blackburn (1-0-3, 16th) @ Ipswich (3-0-1, 4th)

Back at home today we're big favorites vs Blackburn, 4:5 to get a win here. We're 6-6-4 lifetime against them, and we haven't lost in our last 9 meetings, lots of ties though, 4-5-0.

GK: Bogdanovs
D: Hughes/Aldrovandi/Connor/Jackson
M: Crespo/Jean/Sergio Roberto/Gordon
F: Di Giuseppe/Battersby

We just had a reserve match and some of those guys that I want to try to squeak in 10 matches aren't ready for this one. I do give ST Frank Battersby a run up front next to Di Giuseppe, and Kirkland gets a rest in favor of Jack Hughes at DL. We attack today.

21': Jackson takes it up the right side toward midfield, ahead to Gordon, he comes forward further and crosses into the area, Di Giuseppe is there, a strong header, but the keeper gets down and stops it, close!

34': Sergio Roberto ahead for Crespo, he's got a clear cut chance in the area, and totally mis-hits it, sending it well wide left.

47': Crespo a long run down the left, the defense is back, a cross to the far post, Gordon gets his head to it, and its a goal!! 1-0 Their keeper takes the blame there, he seemed in position to stop that but just misjudged it.

HALF: Well we sure aren't playing great, but we've got the lead. 5 shots, 2 on target to just 2 shots for Blackburn.

50': They have a corner, taken right into the middle of the 6 yard box, somehow Bogdanovs can't get it, Sergio Roberto is right there but he doesn't get it, and they head it into the net. Looks like Sergio Roberto takes the blame there, disappointing. 1-1

61': They earn a corner... then a second... Connor heads that one away.

65': Darcy in for Battersby, Mills in for Sergio Roberto.

70': We have a corner, they head it away but we control... sent back wide to Gordon, crossed to Mills who is completely unmarked 8 yards away, he powers a header... right at the keeper. Dang.

84': They have a free kick in our end, taken long but Connor heads it way forward... Darcy picks it up, passes ahead to Di Giuseppe, he's into the area and scores... but is offside... I dunno about that one, damn.

And that's it. We choked away 2 points here.

Ipswich 1 : 1 Blackburn

Man of the Match: Neil Gordon (7.8)
Goal: Gordon
Assist: Crespo (6.9)
Notable: Bogdanovs (7.1)

Our kids don't get ready for this one very well it seems, Connor 6.5, Di Giuseppe 6.4. Disappointing. No one was mentioned as overconfident by our assistant here, but Connor is getting the "still struggling to fit in" report. That's really why I played him today instead of rotating him out, more playing time in "easier" matches, etc.

Has there been a higher transfer fee paid in your gaming world than £88 million? It certainly would be a record in the EPL as of 2011 but I'm interested to see if Cristiano Ronaldo's £80 million fee has been eclipsed.

Is there a way to see records on this?

Looking through the EPL history I see a $100 Million transfer for midfielder Serge Aurier from Liverpool to Barcelona in 2017/18, but I'm just scrolling through one season at a time in the EPL to find that.

champions League Group H

Austria Wien @ Ipswich

We're 4:5 favorites today at home, I kinda thought we might be favored by even more.

GK: Bogdanovs
D: Kirkland/Mattle/Connor/Jackson
M: Ros/Connolly/Smith/Chrzanowski
F: Darcy/Constantino

We give some players rest today, going with an entirely different midfield, and Di Giuseppe gets a rest. We attack at home.

12': Darcy 25 yards out, lots of players in front of him, he passes to the left side for Ros, Ros runs into the area, sprints by his man out wide, and plays a low pass through the 6 yard box, the keeper doesn't attack it properly and Chrzanowski pokes it into the net! 1-0

20': Chrzanowski a free kick out wide right of hte area, it goes off the wall, deflects to Mattle who shoots from 15 yards out and scores! 2-0

32': Constantino to Darcy for a clear cut chance... but right at the keeper.

HALF: We shoot 8 times, putting 7 on target. They shoot once, off target, not in a highlight we saw. We're in complete control here.

50': Smith to Constantino for an easy goal. 3-0

50': Bryan for Constantino, Heywood for Jackson. Both of these guys are not fully fit and we are taking this chance for them to run around some.

72': Young defender Ashworth in for Mattle.

89': Ros with another nice pass into the area, this one for Darcy, clear cut chance... but again right at the keeper.

Ipswich 3 : 0 Austria Wien

Man of the Match: Dariusz Chrzanowski (8.8)
Goals: Chrzanowski, Mattle (8.2), Constantino (7.5)
Assists: Chrzanowski, Smith (8.3), Ros (7.3)
Notables: Jackson (7.0), Kirkland (7.0), Connor (7.4)

Darcy an awful 6.1 amongst all the good play.

Olympique Lyonnais opens with a 2:0 win over Slavia Prague in the other Group H match.

-- We receive $1.148M for this victory. Mmmm, Champions League money, so much better than Euro Cup money.
