Was working at Maccy D's in the UK around 2000-2001, employees were pilfering boxes of the fry cartons and cups to try to win the big prizes. I seem to remember when it came back the next year that was when they switched to the tickets they would give out with the meals and they'd locked those up in the managers office because the theft was so rife. I'm pretty sure the managers were stealing them as well though, so that definitely did not solve the problem.

My favorite quote from the article

Quote:
Dent thought he had found his man. But after installing a wiretap on Jacobson’s phone, he realized that his tip had led to a super-sized conspiracy. Jacobson was the head of a sprawling network of mobsters, psychics, strip club owners, convicts, drug traffickers, and even a family of Mormons

My mom worked for a company in GA when I was in high school (not Dittler) that was involved in some of the printing runs for this promotion going back to the 80s. I don't recall how involved anyone with that company were in the scam (if at all) but I recall years later, my mom telling me all about it when these arrests happened.

It's kind of crazy how little trouble they got in. The main guy got 15 years but others got a year for some pretty big paydays.

Yeah. It seems like they would want stiffer sentences to discourage this sort of behavior.

Which brings us back to how white collar crime "that doesn't hurt anyone" gets off pretty easy, but selling illegal cigarettes in NYC will get you choked out and killed.

Fraudsters and Con Men have little to fear in terms of real retribution. Police around here just don't have the time to battle crimes of confidence when they (as they tell me) "are dealing with real crimes like rape and murder."
