Some Ole Miss fans want to fly a banner over Razorback Stadium saying they are happy with Houston Nutt.

Ouch, this can't be good long term for Oklahoma State. They have been making massive upgrades to their athletic facility based on a donation from T. Boone Pickens. But it appears that because of falling commodity prices, coupled with margin calls, the account holding the donation is now worthless.

Was Tuberville wearing a University of Texas jacket tonight? If so, I can't blame him, since two recent defensive coordinators have come here.

What happened to that great defense that all SEC teams have?

Well, that defense seemed to look pretty good early. But when your offense only has 33 yards the entire second half, and your playing an offense that makes you run as much as WVU does, then it is pretty easy to see what hapened to their defense. Tubberville might have just used his 9th life. |

Come on, man. West Virginia put up 7.95 yards per play. That's ridiculous. It's also almost a yard more than they put up against anyone else this year (7.04 against Marshall). West Virginia put up only 5.28 yards per play against third-tier Big 12 team Colorado. Colorado had 100 yards of offense in the second half. And you're making the counter-argument against yourself. "It's not that SEC defenses are so much better than everyone else, it's that their offenses suck." Here's one from closer to home - Arkansas' total yards against BCS conference opponents: Alabama - 309 Texas - 191 Florida - 361 Auburn - 416 Kentucky - 330 Big Bird wants to know which one of these doesn't belong.

Pat White had also thrown only one interception this season. and completed 70% of his passes. He threw two in the first half, and was under 70% for the same half. So, yeah. The defense got tired and beat up after the offense constantly sucked wind. As for the SEC as a whole, yes the offenses are behind the defenses this year. There are only two good offenses in the SEC this year, and neither are that consistent. And giving Texas in the above example, Texas would easily win the SEC this year. No doubt about it. |

Well, I don't think there's no doubt we'd win the SEC. I think we match up extremely well with Alabama and would spank them. Florida, however, would be a very difficult matchup for Texas, and anyone else for that matter. As always a game against Georgia would depend on what Georgia team showed up, although I figure our front four would pressure Stafford into at least his standard 3 or 4 stupid throws during the game.
I guess you and I agree, though. SEC defenses are good, but their offenses are terrible. Will Muschamp echoed your thoughts this week, finishing his comments with "I would like to play some SEC offenses." After stating the two offenses that are performing at a high level, Florida and Georgia.

I lost respect for Auburn's defense when they gave up 26 to LSU and LSU's QB made them look average.

I didn't think Auburn's D really looked that good early or ever. I'd say they made 2 good plays all night. They gave up a 70-ish yard drive to open the game but bailed themselves out with a good read to pick off the screen pass. Honestly, that was more of a bad play by Pat White to make that throw. Then the CB made a good play on the second pick.
Other than that, by the time they forced a punt it was the 4th quarter and they had given up 24 consecutive points to blow a 14 point lead. Pat White barely ran it because the top 3 WVU QBs are hurt, and it still could've pretty easily been about 45-10. |

Maybe, I don't know, Auburn isn't that good? Wins have been against L-M, Southern Miss, Mississippi State(that barn burner of a 3-2 game) and Tennessee. With Mississippi, Georgia and 'Bama to play, they might be looking at 6-6 at best.

Auburn is definitely not that good. They traditionally have a good defense, but a lot of that was due to Mr. Muschamp who is now at Texas and has a terrific defense there (a good illustration is the Arkansas game by game stats above--Arkansas is struggling and improving, but that Texas defense was definitely the best we've faced).

Auburn was stupid to give up the Spread already. If you're going to do it, follow through with it. It takes time to install but that offense didn't look too amazing yesterday which was supposed to run to their strength.

Dr. Sak, hopefully JoePa can keep his underwear clean this weekend at the 'Shoe (sorry, I had to). A good Penn State team boosts the whole Big Ten, so I am glad they have mostly returned to form. But I am not convinced that Penn State is for real, even though everyone else is. The best team they have played so far is Illinois. It's the same road to the national title game that Ohio State used last year... go undefeated (or with 1 loss) with a pretty crap schedule, and cross your fingers that everyone else loses.
Ohio State got crushed by USC, yes, but they were playing on the road with a conventional offense and without one of the best running backs in the country with a QB who has showed no propensity for excelling on a big stage. With Pryor and Wells, OSU probably still loses, but maybe it's 35-24 instead of a complete embarrassment. Pryor will be the X-factor tomorrow night. I've been waiting for him to show that he's a freshman, but he's been pretty poised so far and avoided the big mistakes. Hope it's a good game.

I think this should be a good game...could go either way. Here is why I think Penn State wins.
1) tOSU's Offense vs PSU's Defense - Pryor is good and some day he is going to be great. I won't deny that, but right now I would say he is a smidge below average passer. I look for Penn State to force Pryor to throw. Their secondary is pretty good and I think he's gotten away with a few floaters...which he might not this Saturday. Plus I think that PSU's D-line will give Pryor and Wells fits. 2) tOSU's Defense vs Penn State's Offense - I am nitpicking here I know but I think this is what the game comes down to. If you look at Ohio State's losses against Illinois, LSU, USC, and Florida the year before...all those teams can throw and pass the ball. I think this is a balance PSU team that will give OSU's defense fits. But again PSU hasn't beaten OSU in the shoe since the 70s. It's an extremely tough place to play and Paterno is known to go conservative on the road against tough opponents. I expect it to be a good game. Last edited by Dr. Sak : 10-24-2008 at 04:29 PM. |

Nice to read this after all the bashing of WVU's new offensive coordinator Jeff Mullen.
"We'd line up in a zone (defense) and they would run the ball, and if we'd line up in man, they would go one-on-one and run crossing routes," said Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville. "They know what they're doing on offense." Of course, this one wasn't bad either. "That's the best team we've played." |

A rumor floating around that SU will go after UConn's coach, Randy Edsall. He has SU ties and friends say he is open to such a move. Others, however, say that no way would he work for AD Gross or take over the current deplotable state of SU football. If SU were to get him, they would have to buy out his remaining UConn's contract, as well as Robinson's contract, and pay him more than Boeheim, which you can't logically do unless you give Boeheim a huge raise.

Texas Tech scores quickly and their new kicker, that won a kicking contest like a week ago and was pulled out of the stands and suited up for this game as a result, kicks the PAT and can't find enough TT special teams players to chest bump on the way off the field. Cool.

The game isn't doing much to help the views of Big 12 defenses. A quarter and a half into the game, they are already over 600 yards total offense by the two teams.

If they were to win all three, they would/should be unanimous #1. But a lot of people had them losing all three, thus the "overrated" (i.e., due for a collapse) tag on various mid-season reports. |

Seriously. The backup comes in and he's 2 for 3 for 52 yards and a TD! I think this team may be mad after losing to Ole Miss.
