Announcing the Golden Wolves!

The Front Office Football Central Werewolf Academy is proud to announce the first ever...

Golden Wolves

For close to three years people have been playing Werewolf here on FOFC, but beyond the occasional chatter, we've never taken the time to recognize some of the great moments and players that keep so many of us hitting F5 on the forum when we really have more productive things we could (and should) be doing.

It is time for us to have a celebration of the people and the game that we play here.

There will be 3 stages to this awards:
1. Suggestions: A thread will be started for each of the award categories, first for those in Group A and then for those in Group B. Players are free to suggest anyone/anything that they think deserves a look and may make as many suggestions as they wish. Group A will be posted first and suggestions can continue even after Group B has been posted. The idea is to start Group A immediately and run it through March 7th. Group B will go up March 2.

2. Nominations: A new thread will then be started for each award, along with a poll listing all of the eligible suggestions. Players will then be allowed to vote for as many or as few of the suggestions as they like. After a week the polls will close.
3. Voting: The top 5 Nominations with the most votes will make it to the finals. Voting will then be conducted via e-mail to myself and another player, to ensure accuracy and honesty.

And then of course will be the announcing of the winners (though those in the know say it's an honor just to be suggested).

We will be starting with the following categories:

In Group A will be nominees for individual games:
Favorite Game (Games 1-19) Suggestion Thread
Favorite Game (Games 20-39) Suggestion Thread
Favorite Game (Games 49-59) Suggestion Thread
Favorite Game (Small Game) Suggestion Thread
Favorite WW Moment Suggestion Thread
Favorite Theme Suggestion Thread
Favorite Game Mechanic Suggestion Thread

Group B will recognize individuals:
Best Vanilla Villager (Overall)
Best Villager with Role (Overall)
Best Wolf (Overall)
Favorite Game (Single Game)
Best New Player
Most Entertaining Player (Overall)
Best Player (Overall)
Favorite GM Writing (Single Game)
Favorite GM (Overall)

If there is groundswell of a support, categories will be added. Further guidelines for categories will be listed in the Suggestion Thread.

The idea will then to hold these awards on a fixed schedule (either every 20 games or annually), since it's nice to come together as a community to remind ourselves of the fun we've had.

Questions? Comments? Suggestions? Post them here or contact me via PM or IM.

I love it. I just wish I knew more about things. I know mainly reputation and the last dozen-ish games

how will the winners be decided....i would suggest everyone that has ever played should be able to vote for the group b nominees, and for group a, anyone that played in a percentage of the numbered games sets can vote for that set

That's fine. It's one of the reason's the process is as long as it is. It's to give the people who've been around a while a chance to go back and remember and the people who are newer a chance to listen and hear. Frankly my hope is that the discussions which result will be the most meaningful part of the process, as people recall the fun.

Are you concerned about someone attempting to stuff the ballot box? My thought is that anyone interested enough to cast a vote, at any stage of the process, is an eligible voter. But, as with the categories, the rules are open to change based on community input. I just decided to take the lead in kicking off the festivities .

FTR: Hoops and I had discussed doing this at several points and because of timing we never did. But he deserves some credit for this having happened (though he was kept in the dark about my decision to actually go forward with it, finally).

I figured we'd need longer to go back and think about the old games than to pick out things based on more general impressions. But the timeline is flexible.

Quick recap:
As part of the Survivor game, the players were put into tribes (as on the show). Players from other tribes were not supposed to look at threads from other tribes. There was some confusion and Ardnet felt some people were cheating.

Actually that was just the prelude. The actual meltdown came later, when there was some taunting of ardent. He was having some personal issues, and did not respond well.

I think most people here are fond of ardent, so it was painful to watch.

It was. It's to my lasting embarrassment that the game for which I had to take the heaviest hand as a mod was my own.

I was "Victim 2B" of that meltdown -- pretty weird. Our tribe had to work on some kind of word puzzle, and Jonathan Ezarik and I had done a lot of work on it, and ardent just popped in and said something along the lines of "leave it to me" which to me rang like he was going to sabotage the puzzle (there was a lot of talk about how some tribes should let the other tribe win, based on the number of wolves we thought were in each tribe at the time), so I came at him with a lot of "how can we trust you when we've already done a lot of the puzzle, and you're just telling us you'll do it all" stuff, and Jonathan was probably just stirring stuff up cuz he was a wolf. Anyway, I sent the entry that Jonathan and I made to BK before leaving work, not really knowing if he would take ours or ardent's. As it turned out, both of our puzzles were better than the other tribe's (though ardent's was better than ours), so we ended up winning the challenge, but ardent left the game.

Then either the next morning, or maybe a day later, I took off to go on my honeymoon -- I guess I underestimated the length of the game, or thought that I would be dead by then anyway. I think it was DaddyTorgo who came in as my alternate, and read tons of pages, covering multiple threads, only to be night-killed before he got to even post.

I'm curious if you think it was worth it considering you were eventually named the WW Survivor.

And that game utterly exhausted me as well. Coming up with the puzzles, in addition to all of the other WW hosting stuff, was excruciating.

Well in some ways that game made me "feel" better about my WW play than most any other game including some of my better games as a wolf. I don't really get mentioned in the same breath as some of the great WW players that we have, so it was nice to end up victorious in that game.. However I don't know if I feel that game was as much of a WW game as a survival game with WW flavor mixed in. I think my winning it all was more a testament to people rewarding me for how hard I worked in that game than any great WW play.

I would play in a game like that again if it ever came up, as long as I had the time for it. I highly doubt I would have that much time to be able to invest these days as I did there though.

Got asked about this in a PM:

You may make as many suggestions as you would like in each category.

I felt the same way making the final two with you in that game. You deserved the win though.

As you've probably noticed the second grouop of categories now have suggestion threads.

Also we could use a few more suggestions in the Favorite Game Mechanic category.

I think you have a good shot at winning most entertaining player. I suggested Qwikshot, but other than him you probably are second on my list. I'm guessing others probably feel similarly.

About a day or so left to nominate people and games for the Golden Wolves. Several of the nominations which went up this week have only a few suggestions. So please suggest away. Multiple suggestions are definitely welcome.

Bump!

Just curious what is next for this. So far the conversations have brought up a bunch of fun memories from past games (especially some of people who no longer even play that would be neat to get back in for a game!)

Voting for our finalists is now underway. If a thread had 5 or fewer nominations all will automatically make it to the finals. Except for Favorite Game overall which only had 4 nominations. I'm hoping people will nominate some more there. The polls were set to end in a week and you CAN vote for as many as you'd like.

Also, I need a volunteer to help me count the votes via E-Mail for the finals.

Couple of notes. I had to restart the Best Overall player thread as I'd omitted Hoops. If you were one of the 3 who had voted please revote.

Second, as an FYI, all orders were determined via random.org as as to present no favorites or advantage.
