Thanks, I'll check those out. Also stumbled on Google MyTracks, although that seems to be more for social networking (and Google data mining) than giving me feedback on my workouts.

Just a heads up that the Amazon app store is open now. They have Angry Birds Rio and World Series of Poker free today. They also have a paid, ad free version of the original Angry Birds.

I am in an app rut.

Loved Angry Birds, played constantly for about 2 months, now haven't touched it since January.

Same with Words with Friends.

Playing some Jewels and Traffic Jam

Today's free Amazon app is Backbreaker Football. Not sure it qualifies as great, but it's a time killer. In the first challenge I was playing for a few minutes, you are a returning a KO against 1 player, than 2, 3, etc

Stupid question --how do you get it? I see it for $2.99 by searching, but not as the free amazon app.

It's on the "Appstore for Android" homepage.

Right under the typical "Shop by Departments" you should see the department link for "Appstore for Android" - just click on that and it takes you to the homepage.

Amazon is trying to build their own Android marketplace, it's a separate app, if you will. If you follow DT's instructions, it will give you the Amazon Appstore which you'll use to install the free apps.

Yeah - you have to go to Amazon.com Pass and DL their Appstore for Android App...then you can find it through that.

my phone was kind enough to resync for some reason, adding old contacts that have long been deleted and deleting new contacts, removing facebook links, etc. Good stuff. Any ideas how to gain control of that crap?

Just got an HTC Thunderbolt and been adding apps. A listing of free apps I've gotten (stocked up on a bunch - I may delete a few soon):

Games:

Alchemy
Android Lightsaber (it's kind of a game)
Angry Birds
Fruit Slice
Glow Hockey
Hex Defense (was free on Amazon Appstore, may delete soon)
Hungry Shark (same as HexDefense)
MegaNoid
Pew Pew
Words with Friends
YooNinja

Productive:

Kindle
Amazon.com
Amazon Appstore
Barcode Scanner
Bible (YouVersion)
Bubble Level
CNN
Compass
Dictionary.com
Google Docs
Google Earth
Evernote
Facebook
Flashlight
Gilt.com
Google Googles
Google Sky Map (brilliant)
IMDB
iTriage
LTE OnOff (a somewhat necessary app on the Thunderbolt)
Movies
Google Reader
ScoreMobile (I loved this on Blackberry and pleased to have it on Android)
Google Shopper
Slacker
SoundHound
The Weather Channel
Google Translate
Twitter
UrbanSpoon
Wikipedia
XFINITY TV (when I realized that I could, as iOS could, change channels from my phone I was floored)
Yelp
YouTube

I love the free Amazon app, though I have to make sure it doesn't get my phone too cluttered .

I just got Scoutmob and Groupon last evening. 9 Innings looks good as well, but I'm scared to delve into it (Angry Birds and Words with Friends is addictive enough ).

So user reviews are claiming that the CPU players get MUCH better as you progress. Is this holding up for others and I should ignore the whiny user reviews or what?

My experience so far, about 30 games in (of which I've played most of those games, simmed maybe 4-6).

I went through a strange 5-7 game stretch where, after having 1 HR on my entire roster the first 20 games, I hit about 12 across 4 players.

The other thing that gets me is how quickly the CPU OFs get to the line and the gaps to make catches. Line drives I think will be 2B end up as outs, where when I am in the field, those balls always land in play.

The Amazon Appstore Free App for the day is filling up my phone nicely .

I'm enjoying Chuzzle these days, though Slice It is super fun (as well as Angry Birds).

I think Folder Organizer is a must have app. Really makes things easier. And since the OTA Update on the Thunderbolt has messed things up battery wise a bit, I got Juice Defender.

The last update broke it in my opinion. The game became increasingly difficult after that update. As was mentioned it seems that the other team now gets to balls in the outfield which end up as doubles or triples if the CPU hits the same. Before the update I was doing well. After the update I don't think that I have allowed fewer than 10 runs in a game.

Waiting it out to see if there is another update that fixes some of the issues.

I took a perfect game into the 8th with R.A. Dickey earlier. If I pulled it off, it would have been a top 3 video game accomplishment for me.

I just saw on Kairosoft's English website that Grand Prix Story is on the Android Market along with Game Dev Story and Hot Springs Story.

Apparently Grand Prix Story is just for Android and Pocket Academy is just for iOS atm.

I haven't tried Grand Prix Story yet, so can't say for sure yet.

That said, I've had so much fun with their other games that Kairosoft Games are pretty much an automatic buy for me.

One game that I've enjoyed lately is Baseball Superstars 2011. Very simple baseball game with association and my player modes. You can even sign your player into your career.

I like that you can play offense and/or defense, and, in the association mode, you can bat only when there's runners on 2nd and/or 3rd. I play just offense, so my games are over in a few minutes. The offensive side of the game plays like Homerun Battle, but all hits count. Fun time waster.

I also like it because it uses the whole screen on my tablet. There's a soccer version. I haven't played it yet because it's in a small window on the tablet. Once it gets to a big screen, I'll check it out.

Economist Android app is out (for phones, not tablets yet). If you're a print subscriber you can get the whole thing on your phone and also download audio of the stories (I can see myself using this hugely at the gym for example).

There's also free content for non-subscribers they say. I'm a print subscriber so i dunno how much it is though.
