Recommendations about cold medicine?
I have a pretty bad cold right now, with sneezing, itchy eyes, and coughing as the most prominent symptoms. I rarely take any type of medicine unless it's a prescription, so I'm not sure what's out there or what's any good. I have two job interviews tomorrow morning, and I don't know if this cold will have tapered off by then. I'm looking for something that I can take when I wake up in the morning that won't make me drowsy. The drive to the interviews is about an hour, so I need to be alert.
If I were just coming to work (like I've done today), I'd just sneeze and cough my way through the day. I don't want to be in this condition during these interviews, though. Any ideas?

Dayquil (or the equivalent generic if you prefer) is fairly decent as long as you don't have any serious health issues.

If I'm miserable and just can't breathe at all, I'll use Zicam.

Say you got a big job interview, and you're a little nervous. Well throw back a couple shots of Hennigans and you'll be as loose as a goose and ready to roll in no time. And because it's odorless, why, it will be our little secret.

I'm not supposed to take any decongestants because of my blood pressure. I miss DayQuil. NyQuil is still permitted, though.

Thera Flu daytime. Drink a cup of that before you go in. Cures everything. Last edited by Coffee Warlord : 05-01-2008 at 11:50 AM. |

Alka-Selzer Night Time chased with about three shots will cure damn near anything.
Maybe not best for the actual interviews though. But it would make them pretty entertaining until you passed out.

When I leave work in about 5 hours, I'll make a decision on which drug to buy. I'm leaning toward the DayQuil right now, but I'll consider the others, too. Honestly, it'll probably come down to whichever one I see first in the drugstore, but we'll see.

I second the Zicam suggestion. I started feeling bad yesterday afternoon, started taking Zicam about 6 last night...I still feel bad - achy, sore throat, stuffy, but the Zicam and some Ibuprofen are keeping the symptoms from getting any worse.
Other than that, Dayquil rocks but I saw you can't take that, I've taken TheraFlu a few times and it works great, tastes horrible though. |

For comedy, I would take nighttime medication. The only reason I'm not doing that is because I have to drive before and after the interviews. I guess I could just close my eyes for 30-second spurts while I'm driving on the turnpike, though.

FYI.....if you want a quick fix to clear up your nose for your interview, take a quick shot of Tabasco hot sauce. That'll clear your nasal passages in a big old hurry.
Dayquil works best for a general cold medicine. |

Touch yourself while the pharmacist downs some dayquil. You'll feel like a hundred dollars.

UPDATE:
I was too tired to stop and buy the cold medicine last night, so I just went home. My plan was to go buy some medicine in the morning before going to the interviews. Thankfully, I felt well enough this morning to just go without any medicine. I was still coughing and sniffing a little, but I think I had a clear head. Actually, I suppose my head was clear enough for the interviewers, as I got offered both jobs within 6 hours of interviewing.

Congrats on the offers!
Which one do you think you'll take? BTW, I also recommend Zicam. That stuff knocked out a nasty cold in like four days and had me in great shape for Turkey.

They were both two very similar positions at the same company. The interviews consisted of me sitting in a chair while they had a revolving door of women to come talk to me. I've decided to take the position that will give me more of an opportunity to deal with outside clients as well as internal staff. Interacting with people is fun!

What's funny is that my new position will put me into an industry that's not far removed from yours.
