FOFC Favorite Rock Act - Round 1 Group P

The final group of round 1 and then we get to the fun part as the decisions get harder. Mierable draw for Sammy Hagar who had to win a play in game and an interesting matchup between Dio and INXS, which I think will be close. Picking Lou Reed as an upset, and then there is ABBA, does it get anymore rock and roll than them?

The Beach Boys at 19 is criminal. There are few bands in the history of rock and roll that are more influential than they are.

.38 Special is good for people who think that Molly Hatchett didn't water down southern rock enough.

I would be curious to know this as well. Not questioning his significance and I know some of his songs, just never listen to them.

I have definitely listened to and enjoyed a lot of Buddy Holly...but honestly, probably not for 20 years.

If you like your pop sugary, sweet and short, Buddy Holly is great and goes down easy. If you don't, his music's probably just as easily ignored.

Holy shit, they should lose their 70's rock perms for that too. (Actually a decent song before they got to that brilliant chorus)

Meanwhile, at an Iron Maiden show you get this....Toto deserves this L

In my large music collection, I only have one act from the 1950s - Buddy Holly. He was a true rock pioneer that many bands and performers from the 1960s points to for their inspiration, including a rather famous 1960s act...

Quote:
it was Buddy Holly who inspired John Lennon and Paul McCartney to play, sing, and write their own songs. Quoting John Lennon: "Buddy Holly was the first one that we were really aware of in England who could play and sing at the same time - not just strum, but actually play the licks"

Quoting Paul once more: "I still like Buddy's vocal style. And his writing. One of the main things about The Beatles is that we started out writing our own material. People these days take it for granted that you do, but nobody used to then. John I started to write because of Buddy Holly. It was like, 'Wow! He writes and is a musician'"

Not to mention how much the Quarrymen/Beatles covered Buddy Holly in the early years.

Don't own a single album, can't remember the name of any songs except "Run To The Hills", but I recognize that Iron Maiden is pure, 100%, unadulterated talent. That they are rated below AC/DC is a travesty. Imaginative bass lines > guitar solos.

And ABBA is back!

https://www.cnn.com/2018/04/27/enter...sic/index.html

Mamma Mia! ABBA is getting the band back together.

The Swedish pop group announced Friday on its official Instagram account that an earlier announced avatar plan of the band, dubbed "Abbatars," helped rekindle the magic.

"The decision to go ahead with the exciting ABBA avatar tour project had an unexpected consequence," the statement posted on Instagram says. "We all felt that, after some 35 years, it could be fun to join forces again and go into the recording studio. So we did."

The reunion, the statement says, "was like time had stood still and we had only been away on a short holiday. An extremely joyful experience!"
